It's there, it's not really bothering me, and I can't find out what it is.
Just beside my 4g icon. Does anybody know what the star is there for?

It means that you have "interruptions" set, times when notifications are muted.

One problem.
I have this problem in fireos. There is no option for me to disable the star. The only way I can figure out to get rid of it is to factory reset, but I don't want to factory reset.
Can anybody figure out how to solve this?

Now I've figured it out!
I fixed it with settings database editor, which you can get in the play store.
If you go into the global table and scroll down to the bottom, you'll find zen mode. Tap on it and tap edit value, and change it to 0. And the star will disappear!

Hello everybody, I usually hangout over at the HP Touchpad forums, but just got this new SG3 that's begging to get rooted.Anyways, the little number that shows up above the messaging icon on the gs3 homescreen won't go away for me.I delete all the threads and however many number of threads that I had going disappear from the messaging app, but on the home screen the number still stays there. I can reboot and it goes away.
Any help would be appreciated.I printed out the 200 page manual but haven't gone through the whole thing yet. Most of it though. Is it something that I am missing to clear the number, or is it something with the phone ? Thanks.
I would clear data for the messaging app and see if that resolves the issue.

Update : I figured it out.Under settings/ developer options / apps/ do not keep activities: destroy every activity as soon as the user leaves it. I had a check mark in the box. I guess it was killing the app right after I deleted the text then I when back to the home screen it would still show a number above the messages icon. Maybe it didn't clear the messages number? WhenI leave the box unchecked and go back to the home screen after I delete the messages the number would disappear above messaging icon. Weird.
Thanks for the suggestions.

You probably had a mute setting that hung itself, rebooting the device likely cleared that. The good thing is that you have it back in pristine condition.

Have you made sure you don't accidentally tap the sound button in the control panel on the status bar at the bottom?

In that case, be careful what you install. Re-Install your stuff from play store in batches and then leave it a couple of days. If it doesn't mute then put the next batch. PITA but may help you to identify which one it is.
next time it happens why dont you go into apps and force close each one and clear data one at a time to see if the sound comes back, you may find out which one it is this way. I'd also mute / unmute inbetween each app closure. - logical process of elimination is the way forward.
No sound in movies, media with galaxy note 10.1
I got sounds from notifications , ringing, but no media sounds.. tried to factory reset my note.. but the problem is still there.. dunno what to do?
My niece has a phone but she keeps forgetting the PIN or combination. What would be the options or instructions to disable those features and leave the Swipe option only?

settings > lockscreen > security (?)
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
I mean disable those features so she can't choose it again in the future that Swipe is the only screen lock option to choose.

sorry , not that i'm aware of. hopefully someone else will chyme in
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
There are several ways to do, I don't know which one you prefer, the easierst would be to download the 'SMS bypass' (Cerberus or any other similar app can also do it but for just one feature SMS bypass is all what we want) which needs to be running in the background, that allows sending an reset sms from another phone e.g. '1234 reset'. After that your phone will be restarted and the pass will be reset to 1234.
But I not recommend to entirely disabled it generally because this would be an open door for other attacks.
I wouldnt mind. Its just a tablet full of games and ebooks. If theres a way to remove those features.

If she keeps turning it back on she may be just messing with you on purpose. -_- may be you should talk to her about that.
Not aware of any way to achieve that. Maybe you should choose "face recognition" as access module? She won't forget that credential
Hi. So recently with my oneplus one I have been having issues (location services not working, text messages not sending/relieving, and mobile data acting up a bit). I decided to perform a factory reset because I figured this would probably be the best way to just start over fresh and possibly resolve some of the issues. Most of the issues were fixed, however I was incredibly disappointed when I went into my settings. Half of the options that I could once modify before I reset the device were now gone! To name a few: the notification bar brightness slider, the vibrator intensity setting, the hardware button brightness, the customized screen colors, and the customized lock screen shortcuts..and that's just to name a few of the important ones. I'm wondering what's going on! Is there any way to get these settings back on my oneplus one? Has anyone else had this issue? Is it because of the cyanogen fallout? It's really frustrating. I didn't realize how much I took those amazing settings for granted. I would have just dealt with the issues if I'd known this would happen. Let me know if anyone has any idea..i would be so so appreciative.
Don't know if its the same thing but there is an advance mode in about phone in settings that allows more modifications to be made.

I transfered some photos via Bluetooth and it won't show in the gallery app. Usually the gallery app will show it (before factory reset)

Are you sure that you signed in with the same email as before? Mine were all saved under the email that I used. Otherwise I'm not sure. Sorry! In the future I'd always recommend downloading Dropbox and turning on the automatic camera upload synching so if anything ever happens you'll still have them forever.
flash via ADB?
I have a Mate 9 on EMUI 5. I used the app Settings Database to disable the navigation bar (hide_virtual_key/ 1) and now I can't get it back. I set it at 0, deleted the entry. Nothing will make it come back!
Is there any fix besides root or hard reset?
Although I would like the opportunity to have a navigation bar that autohides because the extra screen space is great!
Bump!

I did same procedure long time ago, got phone without nav bar and tried something to fix, but finally have to reset settings. It worked for me. Another user did factory reset cause clearing all settings did not help.
Hey man, have you found a way to fix it because I did the same thing and now have the same problem... This post is a little old but please reply?
