This is an app for power users that miss the old good Taskbar, ALT-TAB shortcut, WIN+[n] shortcut or workspaces on their Android devices. PinTasking allows you to create floating shortcuts in form of pins, on demand and based on their current task and workload.
Features:
pin apps/tasks/documents to access them quickly from any screen and app
jump quickly to your most recent task
or your whole tasks history
doesn't restart your tasks under Lollipop like similar apps
[ROOT] Disable the app-switch-delay
extremely customizable
smooth & cool animations
Material design
integrate your browser in PinTasking to:
easily pin your browser whenever you open a link
collect / preload links without to leave an application
quickly share or open links in another app
works with nearly all browsers

It's possible with some limitations:
- no preloading / preopening (Quick opener mode) of webpages
- a click on Evernote, Google Docs and etc. will bring you to the latest document or screen of this app and maybe not to the document you actually pinned
- a few apps may reinitialize and lose text in input fields, scroll progress and etc. after switching to them
I'll implement a non-root mode if there're enough interested people that are okay with this limitations.
btw:
PinTasking is live on the Play Store:
wow, you added even more options!
nice update

Okay, I'll implement a non-root mode before or after the full release. May I ask you why folks with a rooted phone (?!) want it? I wonder if it's for security reasons? You can install the system helper by yourself with a root file explorer. Even system apps need a confirmation to gain root and the helper app declares only two additional permissions and shares them with PinTasking.
I am rooted but their are plenty of people who arent.
My phone is rooted, running plenty of rooted apps, and it says I am not and asks to install the helper or uninstall. Do I have to install the helper? I am on Android 5.1.1 HTC One M8.

This could help you:
1. Make sure that you haven't accidentally denied the root pop-up.
2. Restart the app and try it again.
3. It takes a while on Cyanogenmod to show up the root dialog. Tap "verify root" and wait 2-8 seconds.
I experienced the same bug once but I couldn't reproduce it and a simple application restart solved it for me. I'll look into it again.
Anyway, thanks for reporting.

hi ,
Your app PinTasking looks very interesting and practical .Thanks !
One issue i am trying to understand ................
I have Note 4 ( N910F ) rooted and on Lollipop 5.0.1
i installed your app from Play store, granted root access etc .
But i found app a bit confusing at first ( functions ..how to use etc ).
i uninstalled app ,as i wanted to see your video and then decide.
After watching video ,i was happy i understood functions better and reinstalled from Play store .
This time app was installed ,without asking again for root ( as in 1 st time when i installed )
It is working fine ,tested it rebooted etc ,but PinTasking does not show up in Superuser..?
However ,whilst typing above ,i had idea and went to PinTasking /Root helper installer and reinstalled
helper then was ask for root access etc ,( even though it was never uninstalled ,as i could see it in Titanuim )
and activated it ,and now app shows up in Superuser .
I have solved my issue ,but want to bring it to your attention.
Very impressed so far with apps.........practical /functional uses !
good luck

Use Pin Note to place customisable notifications in the notification area to be used as reminders, notes or application shortcuts. Pressing the notification will start a specified action, for example start your text messaging app, email app or dial a phone number directly. Obviously I will be adding further actions and functionality as time progresses. Any suggestions? Let me know.

Pin Note is currently in active development and is in the Play Store for public testing. There may be minor issues, but expect regular updates as functionality and design is updated and tweaked and of course any bugs fixed. Please feedback if you can, I would appreciate it greatly. I have tested on a LG Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and in AVDs but it hasn't been extensively tested in real world usage.

I have just uploaded the latest APK to the Play Store just before writing the post, it'll take a little time to appear but it will be there.
I've just checked and the Play Store has just updated with latest description, screenshots and APK. Also if anyone wants to submit bugs if they use the app and find anything then either just reply or submit here: https://bitbucket.org/roryrjb/pinnote/issues.
Again sorry no actual link because I'm below 10 posts.
I've added a few more options:
- Persistent Notification (have to clear from app, won't swipe to clear)
- Timer Notification (will count for as long as notification is active, to see how long it has been there)
- LED Notification (if your device supports it, the LED will flash every 5 seconds for as long as the notification is active)
I've also tweaked the notification layout slightly and a ticker also appears as well.
Version update:
Version 0.3.1.1 (Alpha)
- Fixed Intents.
- Added Contacts Selector.
Please find new APK attached to the first post. Play Store updating as I type.
I downloaded the latest copy for testing >>> had a parsing error pop up when I went to install it.
is that just me or what? BTW this application looks promising. Has great potential and I want to help you out
I can create a new icon or re-design the one you currently have to make it more professional or I can do a new UI design for you? Just let me know I love helping others out!
I use Notif Pro but this looks interesting. Going to give this a shot.

It's been a little while but I have updated. Notifications can be customised and then set to appear at set times. The free version (a Pro version will come along eventually) is limited to 4 reminders at a time. Whilst I have now classed this as Beta there still may be issues or bugs. As always any bug reporting or feedback is welcome.

New version with some significant changes. Again this won't be a perfect release as I am adding more and more functionality. Your time, comments or bug reports are greatly appreciated.
New screenshots will be attached to the OP shortly.
Update Attached
I realised in the last update I didn't add some resources for non-XHDPI devices, they have now been added in this latest update (v0.9.5.4).

Download from the Play Store
or direct APK link
Chrome APK Packager is a convenient way to produce Chrome ARChon Custom Runtime packages directly from your phone.
You can generate chrome packages from either APKs on your phones storage, or from apps installed on your phone (It will pull APK)
Open the App, select an APK or App from list. App Name and package name are both pulled from the APK and put into the manifest.json file. Everything is then zipped together in a ChromeAPK folder on your phones storage.
Requires https://github.com/vladikoff/chromeos-apk/blob/master/archon.md ARChon Custom Runtime which allows for "unlimited" number of android apps to be installed. (Google Runtime is limited to 4 apps.)
App is now open source! https://github.com/bpear96/Chrome-APK-Packager
TODO:
Allow orientation/mode to be changed (landscape/tablet)
Sort installed app selection alphabetically
Better UI
Local web server to be able to push files to chromebook (maybe)
Easily share generated zip (To Google drive, email etc)

Changelog:
Beta 8 (v0.9.5)
Option to enable External Directory (Can select where you want app to read/write )
Option to enable ADB.
Beta 7 (v0.9.4)
App is now named "ARChon Packager" (App was removed from play store)
New icon that resembles the chrome logo less. Thanks to https://plus.google.com/u/0/101124546893782960463
UI Improvements. Permission to use assets from this theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467075
Beta 6 (v0.9.3)
Run media scanner. Makes sure new files appear when connected to PC.
UI Improvements. Tinted status bar and MaterialDialog popups. http://i.imgur.com/7txpzkV.png
Beta 5 (v0.9.2)
Removed unnecessary dependency (50% decrease in app size)
Properly handle back button press.
Beta 4 (V0.9.1)
Clean up unnecessary folders after app runs. (unzipped chrome app, pulled apk folder)
Progress Dialog appears when generating Chrome package/zipping
Entire process should be smoother now.
Beta 3 (V0.9)
Pressing phone/tablets back button now prompts user to restart wizard.
Beta 2 (V0.8)
Add "Share Chrome app" button. Allows user to easily share generated app to Google Drive, email, etc.
Add Progress dialogs when generating APK list, and pulling APK.
Beta 1.1 (v0.7)
Small UI changes
Play Store release.
Beta 1 (V0.6):
Completely redesigned app. Should be simpler to use and understand. Thanks to this awesome library https://github.com/Nimrodda/WizarDroid
Play Store and Github source release soon.
Alpha 5:
App can now be generated with different settings correctly (Mode/Orientation). Settings were not cleaning correctly before so if user generated app again with different settings it would not work.
Alpha 4:
Added options (Choose between phone/tablet and portrait/landscape layou)
Alpha 3:
APK Icon is now extracted and packaged for chrome.
Using Tydi Icon Thanks! Really appreciate it.
Alpha 2:
Alphabetically sort installed apps.
Alert user to wait for popup telling them there Chrome App is ready. (A bit buggy)
Great;

Yup that is my next step . Just got apps sorted alphabetically. So will begin working on that now. Shouldn't be too complicated.
with this,we can collect app and open together ??
Awesome!
Could a new feature be implemented where every time the APK is updated from the Play Store, a new Chrome Package is automatically generated?
Sweet! Could I request a couple things though?
1. Allow for custom icons and/or extract the one within the apk
2. In addition to formfactor and orientation, add "resize":"scale" to the manifest.jeon
3. This might be difficult, but root access, and copy necessary data and obb files from /system

fabulous but need tablet mode

thanks
Trying to get the Plume App to work.
I've come so close to getting Plume (3rd party Twitter app) to work. Chrome will open the app and the Android Logo will appear, and it won't do anything beyond that. I'm running Chrome Beta, whether that makes any difference or not.
Why not publishing it on the Play Store?
settings bug
Very beautiful and useful app !!! But in the version 2 doesn't function the settings button. I Will wait for the support of apk with obb for google chrome
Am I doing something wrong?
I've loaded many apps on my Chromebox. Unzip'ed all the apk's and loaded them as extensions. All of the apps just sit at the Android Logo screen, and don't do anything. Do I need to do something else to get them going? I've tried these apps: Snapseed, Plume & Photo Mate R2.

nice
great idea, but here is what I think
- UI should be shrinked (text size of some items in the fragment adapter)
- The ad banner is exactly over the input text field in my device :crying:
- you should also add some specific sections, like music and photo
Short feedback/requests from my side:
1. The quick search works flawlessly. Good job :good:
2. Dividing the search results into three categories is nice, but maybe another categorie ("All") would be useful.
3. A search widget (similar to the Google search bar) would be awesome, so one can easily search for files right from the homescreen without entering the app. Entering the app is quite circumstantial for a quick search. The launcher "EverythingMe" has implemented this in an awesome way (popup with search results, with which you can interact with, for example open the app/contact/file). Would something like this be possible?

Thanks, the 'ALL' section seems nice and maybe if the app gains more users I start a poll for it.
Also about the search widget, I don't think anybody (at least at this moment) is going to replace the 'Google Search' widget with 'Fast Search' widget and I think a constant notification in the notification bar may be more useful. Anyway I try to add them both in the next updates.
Also I haven't tried the 'Everything.Me' but could predict what you mean from popup window. And yes it's possible and I'll try to add it.
Thank you for your notes guys.

I would immediately replace the Google search widget with yours
For the popup in EverythingMe: When you start typing something in the search bar, related apps, contacts and more are shown below as can be seen in the attached picture below. But for EverythingMe, the launcher simply hides the current page with its objects and shows the search results instead. This seems quite cool for a launcher, but for a widget it would be nice if there is some kind of popup right below the search widget which shows the search results (maybe some kind of white material card background, for example).

Thank you all for your comments.
The new version (1.1) has been published now with some changes (You can view them in the second post of this topic).
I think those crashes reported and some non-reported ones are fixed now.
Also added persistent notification that was clearly needed for this type of app.
So in the next version probably I will add the search widget and some other improvements that (maybe) would get suggested

The app is now updated to version 1.2.1 with the support of a 'Google Search' like widget.
You can download it from the attachments of first post in this thread.
The full change list is on the second post of the first page in this thread.
Also I removed the older versions because i saw some people still downloaded previous versions while the newer versions were there!
@provolinoo
I'm living in IRAN and Google has currently banned my country in the developer section. So I can't publish the application on the Google Play Store. Sorry that I can't help you
Still keen to your ideas (and waiting for them) to make the app better that what it's now!
Exactly what I need!

very bad my friend... but I know it's not your fault
Suggestion !!!!
Idea is great and is similar to SAMSUNG S-FINDER, if you can implement such in your app....than it can be very very handy.....s-finder connects all apps having search options....it lets you search everything on your phone
This is a nice app and the main thing is that this is open source. I have tested this app and it shows quick results. It is very useful especially for newbies who face problems in searching for the files.
Nice feature.
Hi all,
I tested the Android 7 Beta for a couple of weeks on one of my testing devices. One of my favorite new features is the new and improved Quick Settings screen and especially the possibility to add a custom tile.
Eventually I hacked together a little app to add some additional features and fire multiple activities from a custom Quick Settings tile just for my personal use .... after using this app for some time, I realized that this might be interessting for other users, too. So I put some more time and effort into this and developed a full-fledged app to improve the Quick Settings .... and here it is:
QuickTile https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.widgapp.quicktile

It´s a full-fledged app, so it contains an in-app purchase to remove Ads and an activity count limit ... However, I do have some Promo codes for the app, so just pm me and I will send you one (while supplies last).
Feedback welcome!

This looks quite interesting and when I upgrade to Nougat, I'd like to give it a go. Can you set names on the tiles in the quick settings menu and have more than one?

Hi,
"Set tile names" and "more than one tile" is not supported in this initial release ... but I have already both features on my feature request list .... names should be possible to implement and I have one or two ideas how to implement multiple tiles (but didn´t have a deeper look at it,yet) .... So, just post your feedback, additional feature requests and new ideas and I will have a look at it and sort out what is possible and makes sense for me :good:
btw. I think the official Nougat release is just a couple of days away ...

Sounds good. It's out tomorrow so as soon as i'm upgraded, i'll install it.
Update 0.8.1_BETA
Just released a little maintenance update:
- Added a QuickTile setting to close the quick settings screen after firing the activities --> so you can choose which behavior makes more sense to you ...
- Fixed an issue with the external plugin activity ---> btw. a really cool and powerful activity: you can trigger Locale/Tasker compatible automation plugins with this activity
- some minor improvements and fixes
Just saw this thread and tried it out. Great app. I'm glad someone is taking advantage of those quick settings that Google gave us. I'll be playing around with this app more and let you know if there are any bugs or anything. Thanks.
Works great so far. Only things that are missing so far are what you have already on your list

AFAIK, nope .... NO Lollipop API for this ...
Power Toggle seemed to do it close enough.

2. Set more than one tile

It´s probably not your country, but your android version. Android 7+ is required and it´s not backward compatible.

Ah Ok, I assumed your signature would contain your current device (Samsung Relay 4G SGH-T699 ROM: CyanogenMod 10.2).
However, I do not post any APK. It´s part of my user security/ privacy policy .... so. let me explain it:
I develop apps and release them for a couple of years now and my most popular app ReTag has 500.000+ downloads .... I never released an APK for ReTag, but if you search the web for an ReTag APK you could find a lot APK´s ... some are ok, but most of them (>90%) are hacked... I have seen all kinds of hacks, from different translations, to aggressive ads, to nasty virus infected APKs. As a developer you can not prevent APKs popping up, but you can warn your users and make it crystal clear that there is only one reliable source for the app and that is Google Play. Google Play introduced also a couple of new security checks and security policies over the years, so users should be safe and you can even handle BETA downloads on Google Play now.
I know that there are reasons for releasing an APK and that this sometimes makes sense for a small group of users, but from my point of view, it makes more sense to protect the majority of users. I'm sure you know how to get the app without me releasing an APK, so again, I'm sorry, but I do not post any APK.

Thank you so much for making me realize that.
Hmm, after 10 days not a single error or issue reported?!?
Any feedback regarding the root activities?
... or the 3rd party plug-in activity?

Hello Primokorn, Thanks for your comment.

I hope the above list answers your question, feel free to ask me anything & I shall reply you.

Actually it was to include your app into F-Droid repo.
1/ 2/ I think there are free tools for these purposes. I don't remember the names, though.
3/ What is FCM?
4/ Is this specific to Firebase ('accross devices'). I have already seen import/export feature into FLOSS apps like AFWall+.

1 & 2: I was using Fabric for the old version but then since Firebase got acquired by Google, i thought of centralizing things and rely on one service instead of multiple to reduce Complexity.
3: Firebase Cloud Messaging (AKA Google Cloud Messaging) its for push notifications. (No spam trust me :laugh
4- FA does not require you to export & import its stuff which is abit of tedious thing to do, instead FA offers you to click Backup on your lets say primary device & then lets say in your secondary device you click restore and that's it, whatever you have in your primary phone from settings, folders & apps will be in your secondary device without the hassle of doing them manually. i think this is a really cool feature that unfortunately nobody still know about it. i need to find a way tho to let FA users knows about it and use it, because its an awesome adds-on.
I'm thinking of adding Widgets for the future, maybe in version 11.0.0 it would be nice to have some floating Widgets that you can access them seamlessly, but it's still just an idea and haven't really yet start working on it as im currently working on Making a Github client that really suites me & i think it will suites others as the current ones in the Playstore are just either tooo ugly (no offense), featureless or both.

OK, I understand. Thanks for your detailed answer.
I'm a new user of FA and I have 2 suggestions if you are interested
1. Possibility to hide the floating button
2. Add actions like Recent apps, Enable/Disable WiFi or BT and so on...

These are really great suggestions:
1- This would be really nice tho. i'll think of how to implement it and do it asap.
2- I don't think this will be applicable for FA tho, hence the point of the APP to allow you to fast access your Apps, these Wifi, BT toggles are on also a swipe away from any screen, it won't really make sense to have it in FA, did you know, that you can double click on FA to go to your home? i doubt that hahaha, cuz i never mentioned it. alot of stuff to be addressed, but i just don't know how i address them lol.
Thank you very much for your continuos effort to reply and suggest ideas, i really appreciate them.

I have access to my homescreen thanks to my Home button
BTW is there a way to reorder my apps into the folders (instead of in alphabetical order)? (FA Floating Mode set to Folders)
EDIT: last suggestions @k0sh
- Being able to choose into a built-in list of icons for each folder (instead of having the first two letters of our folder names).
- Auto close FA after selecting an app.
