Does anyone know if this is legitimate?

It makes no mention of needing an unlocked bootloader (which isn't possible currently with 4.4.4), but I've been told elsewhere that it would be required to use this method.
Has anyone done this?
You still need an unlocked bootloader for superboot. Unfortunately, I don't think that's ever going to happen unless you want to pay a chinese middleman $45. I don't even know if he still does that. Afaik, you could just as easy buy a boost version, unlock it, and flash verizon firmware.
There's been a root method pop up recently for the X and turbo, and it's for 4.4.4 using the same preloader we have. I'm not entirely sure if we would benefit from it though. It's slightly possible someone with the knowledge could come up with something, but I don't believe the xt1028 owners are that lucky.

I'm really liking the Moto G after having picked one up the other day from AIO Wireless.
I was able to use the Ebay link that was posted here to get the SIM lock taken care of and now I'm wanting to get the Bootloader unlocked so I can proceed with Recovery, ROM, etc.
When attempting to use the Motorola site to unlock the Bootloader it says that "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking"
My guess is that AIO (AT&T MVNO) has worked with Motorola to prevent the unlocking so as to prevent custom ROMs which would allow for tethering, etc.
Are there any other solutions available? Anyone here using an "AIO" version of the Moto G and able to get this sorted out?

Thanks. The issue is not a proper copying of the key unfortunately. There are other people online posting with the same issue and the same provider.
Hoping that the community can help or that someone on here would have an idea of how to step past this.

You're hosed. Only solution is: Return the device and purchase an unlocked one.

There is actually a dude on YouTube showing how to do with specifically with AIO Wireless. He used a site called fastgsm.com

i am looking on ebay and thinking of buying a used droid ultra i heard of locked bootloader. what exactly does that do ? are we able to install recovery and flash custom roms to all models if not what should i stay away from . thanks for any info.
Go to xda's swappa.com you can get a brand new Droid maxx for under $300
You should be able to unlock your bootloader for free very soon due to a new exploit.
Otherwise if the phone ships with 4.4 you can root it. Don't take any updates.
I don't recommend any roms. We have xposed framework to customize factory firmware. Plus you begin to lose functionality like active display, although a few newer apps can try to replicate it.

Hi! Sorry to hijack but I'm going nuts and looked at thread for hours and hours. I'd like to ask if I'm correct that I have 4.4 and that I can somehow root it. Could you kindly link to a thread that would help me root or get me in the right direction?
I went to Verizon today and got a Droid Maxx xt1080. I want to root it so I can just use Titanium to backup/restore before I load all my apps and settings back up, or decide to take it back and get a phone that I can root ($30 penalty 14 day return). I haven't rooted anything before. It keeps asking me to "Install system update New version: 19.6.3.en.US" and I press Later. About Phone says Android version 4.4 System version 19.5.3.obake-maxx_verizon.Verizon.en.US.

Just go to droid ultra, original android development. It's in the threads. You'll find many explanations.
Use pie exploit by jcase, and then to keep root after reboot you'll also need to use wpnomo.
I had a very hard time with wpnomo. Maybe due to our pcs. I just decided to unlock my bootloader on my 32gb droid maxx earlier in the year.
Dan Rosenberg just presented an exploit that will hopefully work it's way to us. So what I'm saying is, keep delaying update, try pie and wpnomo. If it's too difficult just wait for the bootloader because it's soooo much easier to modify with an unlocked bl.

My goal is this: I am running 4.4..4 and i want to downgrade using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219 will it work? Then, can i root with pie root and use sunshine to unlock bootloader then get perm root? Even if i could downgrade, would my service still work? But either way, thanks ahead of time.

I'd also like to know this as I just bought a prepaid Verizon model too. But I also want to know how you are using it on Tracfone. I went to their website and it said that the MEID wasn't found in their system,
Well ok, I little off topic, but the phone needs to be used with Verizon prepaid for 6 months before activation with tracfone. If tracfone says I doesn't work, I doesn't. For me, I went on eBay and just asked people for the devices mied and checked it before I bought it. I bought mine for $60 US. Sorry, no way to get around the six months.

I am actually trying to get the exact same thing done. Funny thing though, when i tried flashing the 4.4.2, none of the sparsechunks would flash, something about the bootloader rejecting preflash validation. Anyways, I flashed all the other files, and only about half of which were successful, and then booted the phone. It was still 4.4.4 and would crash and have to reboot within 30 seconds of rebooting. Eventually after trying again and again to flash 4.4.2 i tried to resurrect my broken bootloop phone by flashing 4.4.4. Worked instantly, no failed flashes, back to stock. I am beginning to think the locked bootloader will not allow you to downgrade operating systems, just reflash to stock. If anyone else knows how to fix this, I would be very grateful

I catch same thing and I totally agree with you
a small chance
with lollipop on the way it's possible that some dev may find a exploit moto phones are among the first to receive the update and there is a small chance we'll get lucky and 5.0.2 will have a opening somewhere but with my luck I'll accept the update and someone will figure out how to root 4.4.4

So I decided to stick with stock until the Lollipop update comes. I talked to Motorola, who told me to contact VZW. I called VZW, and after a few forwards, found out my device is "PIB Locked" which means it needs to be scanned at a Verizon store so it can be activated.
I don't want to do that, nor do I think that'll help.
So after some research, found out that I might need to flash another carrier to be able to get the Lollipop update.
How true is that, and how do I do so? I'm no stranger to flashing a ROM, but a carrier might require some learning.

you could possibly downgrade the to 4.3 then root but don't downgrade the bootloader. also you must use official motorola signed software. some had success others were pissed.

And since I am adding a line, I could take advantage of their half-off deals, but I need to know if there are any 5g phones on T-Mobile that will let me root it while it is technically still locked to their service. I know when I rooted a phone earlier this year it was just assumed that it needed to be carrier unlocked first, so it's hard to go look at individual phone forums and see if their unlock methods would work for me or not. Is it possible for any of their offerings to be rooted while still be locked to the carrier?

All that really matters is if the device has an unlocked bootloader or, at least, a bootloader that can, in fact, be unlocked using a known/proven method for that exact device.
Devices that have an unlocked/unlockable bootloader can easily root using the Magisk method and/or TWRP, but, not all devices have TWRP available to them. But, the Magisk method works for most devices, provided that they have an unlocked bootloader.
Yes, it can be locked to a carrier and still be rooted. When you see guides discussing unlocking a device in order to root the device, they are not referring to carrier unlocking the device in order to root, they are referring to unlocking the bootloader, which must be done in order to make modifications(such as rooting) to the system software.
