[Q] Voice sound problem S4 after upgrading to Lollipop - General Questions and Answers

After upgrade Samsung S4 9505 to Lollipop i have a problem with sound in calls. The sound it's distorted, it sound weird, looks like it doesn't have HD voice anymore. I tested it with ears and same problem. Some people said also my voice it's changed, they hear me different.
Does anyone have the same problem? Knows anyone how to fix this? Thank You

You are very very lucky that your mobile is still functioning. Just your sound is facing problems. It's not wise to upgrade a Samsung mobile cause most of them cause trouble. And most of them end up like that device is not a mobile phone anymore. If it possible then restore your mobile as soon as you can.
Don't worry, some of the Samsung mobiles still function after an upgrade with just a little servicing. So, try your service provider iff the date of your warranty ran over.

Yes! You're the Luckiest Galaxy S4's owner after upgrading to Lollipop . I was also upgraded to lollipop but I'm facing many problems like Wi-Fi not working , IMIE lost and many problems.

Hope they will fix my problem to next version. Phone works perfect, i've had another bug with alarm sound, now it's ok.
I was verry dissapointed after upgrade becouse it doesn't come with Ultra Power Saving Mode.

no sound during calls

i flashed to HTC professional 1921 and i have a problem when i receive calls. i can only receive and hear them when i'm on speaker (i noticed some of the people have this problem on VoIP - but i'm talking about regular phone calls) The person on the other end of the phone can hear me fine. I can only during calls using speakerphone or headphones.
i searched the forum, but didn't find and answer
does anyone know how can i fix this?

Flash another rom just to be sure it's not a hardware problem.
Good luck!
I to am experiencing a similar issue. Have you tried talking on the phone when you flip it and fold? Basically putting it in portrait mode, is that when you don't get any sound? That is when I don't get any sound, but if I just leave it open in laptop mode I can hear, but trying to talk to someone looks very awkward.
hey i have the same problem , but it's seems to be an hardware problem , what's odd is , it's happen after i flashed :S . anyway i flashed back to my operator ROM and used my insurence .... it's all fixed now .

Yeah, it happened to me after i flashed which is weird. i agree it must be a hardware problem though because I just flashed to the button rom and am still not hearing anything during calls. Unfortunately, my warranty has already run out...so sad.
i think it's an no luck thing . maybe it was humid in you room or who knows .
u should fix it at some store - hope they gonna keep the price cheap .

Sound Problem During Calls

I have a very low volume voice during calls. the volume of the phone is 100% but still you can't hear anything in public places.
I'm now using the speaker during calls...any help?
I've got the same problem does anone know what can I do??
I had this problem try this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429436
But using that method gives distortion to the sound, I am also having issues hearing who I´m talking with but it MUST be fixed by HTC either through update or getting a new device when they fix the problem.
But AudioPara3.zip has a bug
New AudioPara3.zip indeed turn the volume louder, but has a bug: the receiving call phone ring doesn't stop when turn Touch Pro face down as the original AudioPara3.zip does and the specifications annouce.
May be it's possible to contact the author of new AudioPara3.zip, I don´t know who is, and ask him to correct the bug.
Thanks very much.

Does it produce distortion with that program?
Although I love my TP I'm almost at the stage where I'm going to get rid of it....the volume during calls is pathetic..and despite all it's other features..it is afterall, supposed to be a phone. And if I can't use it for calls then it has just about no use to me.
I really fail to understand what these manafacturers do when they are testing a new device before its launch. Omission of such a basic problem only reflects as a disgrace to HTC. Hope this will be corrected through a ROM update. I have a diamond and I was seriously considering an upgrade to the Touch Pro. Now I will wait if and when this problem is corrected.
I can only sympthasize with those who own this device and are suffering the ignorance of HTc.
Regards
I'm not sure a ROM upgrade wil be able to do anything as from all the reading I've done, it's a hardware problem.
I've just spent an hour or so looking for alternative phones and sadly there's nothing that I would feel happy about buying...and nothing coming in the near future either...or does anyone know of anything?
The TP was for me the ultimate purchase, everything about it was perfect....until I discoverd I couldn't hear anyone on the phone!!

You hope in vain.. I will quote:
"[..]However I can also see that these issues do not effect everyone, we have had a lot of good feedback regarding this device[..]"
So yes, HTC thinks that touch pro is close to perfection.
What should you all do? Contact and tell them about those problems, tell them that's a GENERAL ISSUE NOT A ONE DEVICE SPECIFIC ISSUE.

Don't forget, this issue will not disappear/fix by itself. So if you care, then implicate yourself .

Well, I'm facing exactly the same issue. It is quite strange. If I record a video on my phone, and then play it, the sound would come from earpiece (front speaker) instead of rear speakers. And after that, the ringtone (on incoming calls), video playback sounds will keep on coming from the front speaker (earpiece). I do not know whether it is a hardware issue or a software issue. Can someone confirm it?
My phone (S3) has JB 4.1.1. I do not know whether Jelly Bean update is causing this issue or not, coz when I bought this phone, it was already upgraded to JB.
Can someone who has upgraded his phone to JB confirm it? Are these kind of issues related to hardware or software?
And well to fix it on temporary basis, what I did was I made call from some other number to my phone (One S), the sound/ringtone was coming from earpiece. After making this call, I went to Sound settings (in HTC one S) and re selected the ring tone and it solved the issue. Now the ringtone and other sounds are coming from rear speakers. If the issue is not resolved after re selecting the ring tone, do one thing, flip your phone and make call again to your phone, reject it, and then again select some ringtone for your phone, hopefully it'll resolve your issue on temporary basis. I also tried that (though the option "flip for speaker" is not selected in my phone).
It seems only few handsets have this issue. :S ?
Anyway if anyone else is facing the same issue, let us know here, so we can discuss about it.

Hello,
I have the same problem. Sometimes, my sound get crazy and it can be hear from front speaker, except from back speaker.
After that, I have to do a restart and it's OK, but that's annoying.
VilleC2, it happens after JB update.

Pixel 3 Speakerphone issues?

I got my Pixel 3 unlocked from Google a couple of days ago. I really love the phone, but oddly, every time that I call my wife and I'm on speaker, it always takes 8-10 seconds for her to be able to hear me. This happens with no one else, as I've called multiple people on speaker. Google offered to RMA the device, but I'm not convinced that it's a hardware issue. If it's a software issue that will likely be fixed in the future, I will just keep this one. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, but I don't really want to go through the RMA process just for it to continue happening. Has anyone else had similar experiences? From what I can see on Reddit and elsewhere, it appears to be a rather commonplace issue. I just can't justify waiting for another device to solve a wide spread problem. If it was a fluke issue, then a factory replacement wouldn't make me nervous. I think that I am just going to return the device for a full refund and wait for something else to come out. Sucks though, because I otherwise loved this phone.
I have noticed this as well. I try to talk over the speaker and the person on the other end can't hear me for a little bit. I might try to RMA the phone. How'd you go about talked to Google Support about the issue? A phone call, chat or email?

I was using the chat service, it worked fine. I haven't RMA'd the device. I went and got a new SIM card from AT&T and it seems better. I did tons of test calls to other people on different carriers and it only ever happened with my wife, who is in Verizon. For that reason, I don't think there is a hardware issue with my device, but I don't know what it might be.

I figured it out while I was messing with it yesterday. Turn off HD voice. "enhanced LTE" in the network settings menu and that fixes it. I am on AT&T and had great connectivity with same carrier subscribers, Sprint, and others. I tried calling multiple friends with Verizon and had the issue every time. So I just turned it off.
Update: it looks like December update fix my issue. Will update again if something happen
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This speakerphone issue is happening to me using TMobile and also using Whatsapp calls.
I noticed this issue because the phone is also not connecting to my Honda Civic 2016 Bluetooth and tried using the speakers.
I'll wait for December 2018 update and make lot of test before I contact Google.
I'm using the regular Pixel 3 white.
I have the same issue,,,when I first get a call and answer it with speakerphone no one can hear me for a few seconds then if I toggle speaker off then back on it works okay??

Doesn't this remove the ability to use group chats?
I got my wife the Pixel 3 at launch and we're on the 3rd phone because of this issue and it's still happening. It only happens on speakerphone (not regular) and her speakers seem to be fine which makes me think it's software and not hardware.

I agree with you. I think I'm still having issues with it even without it on. My wife is still saying it sounds like I'm in a tunnel any time I'm on speaker. I hope they get this resolved, and ASAP.

I am wondering if anyone has tried turning off the wifi calling option? I havent tried that yet as it is the only thing I havent tried to see if my phone doesnt have problems when first answering a call with the phones speakerphone and people on the other end not being able to hear me for the first few seconds? I saw in a Google thread that there may be a problem with the handoff of wifi to actual LTE calling and it makes it difficult for the phones speaker to know where to apply the sound to? I dont have a sim in my phone currently so I am wondering anyone else tried this to see?

I may have found a fix for this. Need you guys to confirm.
Goto the permissions of Google play services, and disable MIC permission. During phone calls you will see a 'this app needs permissions to run blah blah' ignore it. Test speaker phone now. I stumbled upon someone who mentioned this (can't find the post now) and I have had 0 issues w/ straight speaker phone.

My wife has this issue with her new Pixel 3 - oddly not when calling me (I have an S8) but when calling 3 other confirmed people (who [co-incidentally] all have iphones?). Even talking to them over handset first which is obviously fine, when she switches to speaker mid-call they can't hear her.
We tried this but she still has the issue.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ in call speaker very low after the last update from samsung

hi guys I have a problem with my galaxy s8+ that started 2 weeks a go: the front speaker[ in call speaker] has very very low sound when I speaking with someone on the phone. if I don't have my handsfree I cant hear nothing. I think this is from Samsung to make us change the phone with a newer model. MAYBE downgrade is the solution for this and newer update. if someone has a solution... PLEASE HELP!
CAN I DOWNGRADE TO OREO?
