I have exactly the same problem. I would be so thankful, if anyone can help to solve the problem.
Guys, the problem is that our evil little phone restores the factory recovery upon reboot. So when you flash the custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) with Odin, make sure that you uncheck the "Auto-Reboot" checkbox. After flashing the recovery (make sure Odin displays "PASS") simply disconnect the phone, remove the battery, reinsert the battery and turn on the phone (volume up + home + power) and you will be able to use your custom recovery.

Hello everyone, I can't install custom recovery, the stock recovery always come back, and again and again and again...
I tried to not tip the "Auto-Reboot" checkbox and after flashing the recovery (make sure Odin displays "PASS") simply disconnect the phone, remove the battery, reinsert the battery and turn on the phone (volume up + home + power) and I boot in stock recovery.
And I tried to flash with odin after do this : "mount system r-w
go to /system
change name recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.p.backup
go to etc folder in /system
change name install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.backup
If you don't have recovery-from-boot.p and install-recovery.sh. Try to flash other oficial stock rom without brand.
If you have those files and if you change name recovery-from-boot.p and install-recovery.sh reboot your phone to download mode and flash again recovery. "
No more results
I'm disappointing.

guys,
my tab2 starts up with a system recovery screen.
i started reading on the forum, and according to many threds, i ned to wipe data/factory reset and then flash a ro. so i copied a rom(omni 4.4.2) to my micro sd, wiped data/factory reset but then it stops. There is no flash option in the system recovery screen.
anyone who can help?
thanks ina dvance.
Sounds like you are dealing with the Stock recovery.
To flash a custom ROM you FIRST need to flash a custom recovery to flash the ROM.
- For CM11 flash Philz Touch or CWM Swipe Edition through ODIN3.
- For OMNI flash TWRP through ODIN3.
This means: Get the .tar.md5 from Android Andi's file repository, install ODIN3 + USB drivers on your computer, put the Tablet into Download Mode, start ODIN3, select the recovery file as a "PDA" file, connect the tablet, flash it, disconnect after flashing, get into the custom recovery (Power + Vol UP), flash the ROM + gapps.
Or ... maybe read the OP post of the custom ROM you want to flash with a bit more care and attention - it's usually pointed out that you need a custom recovery in order to flash the ROM (stock recovery won't cut it).

Hello guys.
Im struggeling to install a custom ROM at the stage of installing a CWM recovery. My S2 plus 9105p runs Android 4.2.2 and everytime I try to upload a recovery img via Odin everything works fine as expected but when I try to start (volume up, home, power) the recovery mode - it gets always into the standard Android one - not CWM recovery!!! It looks like Samsung has integrated some kind of security mechanism which keeps us from running custom ROMs...
I have realy tried maybe 5 different recovery images, but non of those worked for me.
Can you please help?

I tried exactly also this particular site and steps described on it, but didn't help... The same problem. Everything was OK, but recovery was not CWM but standard Android one.
When u have flashed ur recorvery, take ur battery out and then plug battery again. And now go to recorvery.
Now it is WORKING !
Hi guys.
I followed the step-by-step guide on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560928
- used the CWM 6.0.4.5 and Odin3 0.7
- after successfull flash of the PDA with this recovery (manualy unset the auto-reboot option) I have pulled the battery out for a couple of seconds
- the battery came back in again and with home-volUP-Power I got directly to the new CWM recovery.
So thanx all for your support and you can lock this thread as everything is working now.
DETAILED STEPS FOR INSTALLING CWM RECOVERY IF THE PHONE AUTOMATICALLY RE_FLASHES IT:
Installation
WITH ODIN
1. Be sure, that your device is on 4.2.2 stock firmware and shut down the phone
2. Be sure that Samsung drivers are installed on your pc. Just install Kies or google for them
3. Download Odin 3.07(google it) and the CWM-Recovery image (in this case CWM 6.0.4.5 )
4. Open Odin as administrator
5. Start-up the phone by pressing Vol_DOWN + Home + Power so you get into the flash-menu.
6. After reading the disclaimer and warning stuff - simply press Vol_UP and plug the USB cable to the PC and Phone
7. In ODIN click on PDA and select the downloaded CWM-recovery (*filename*.tar.md5) . Check - "F. Reset Time" and UNCHECK!! -> "Auto Reboot"
8. Click start and wait until the blue progress bar in your device is graphicaly 100% (I also suggest to wait another minute to make things sure..)
9. Pull out the battery
10. Pull out the uSB cable from PC and phone
11. Wait abou 10-15 seconds and power up your phone to get into the recovery menu by pressing: Vol_UP + Home + Power
12. DONE

My understanding of the below thread is that I'd be rooting my phone with a pretty close to stock rom. My phone is currently not rooted.
In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-t3060130/post59578778?nocache=1#post59578778
step #6 I have no advanced wipe option, nor do I have the install option. What did I do wrong? I'd like to root my phone using his close to stock rom from the link above. I figured I needed another recovery mode instead of the stock one, so I downloaded odin, and then TWRP. I went into download mode, and supposedly installed TWRP. However when I hold power + up + home it goes into the stock recovery mode....what gives?
My recovery mode looks like this:
Android system recovery
LRX22C.N910PVPU1BOB7
Volume up/down to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
apply update from cache
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition
reboot to bootloader
power down
view recovery logs
enable cp logging
disable cp logging
Your help is most appreciated...
Anyone? I just wiped out my data (backed up of course) but basically have no phone to use until I continue with rooting. However..I am unable to install "Stock_Rooted_NoKnox_N910PSPT1BOB7_DEODEXED" because I can't perform the suggested advanced wipe, nor do I have the install option when booting into recovery mode...when trying to install from SD (which is where I placed the "Stock_Rooted_NoKnox_N910PSPT1BOB7_DEODEXED" I got an error stating something to the affect that it was not a genuine or valid image (don't recall the exact error message). So basically the phone ended up doing a factory reset, and I'm back at square one again. To validate that it is back to stock, I tried to install chainfire's SU, and no sticky bit could be found Also knox has not been tripped yet because its still 0x0. I've rooted in the past on previous phones, so I'm not sure why I'm missing the recovery options I need.

Hi,
Looks like you're using Stock Recovery. Get a copy of TWRP (it should be trltespr and must be in .tar format) But before doing it so, root your device first using CF Auto Root. You need Samsung USB Drivers, and Debugging mode to be enabled on Developer Options.
Samsung USB Drivers -> Technical Documentation | SAMSUNG Developers
CF Auto Root -> CF-Root Download <- for Android 4.4.4 KitKat only!
TWRP -> Download TWRP for trltespr <- be sure to download .tar file to be flashed in ODIN.
First of all, is to enable Debugging mode. Go to Settings -> About device and tap 7 times on Build number. After doing it, go to Developer options and tick USB debugging.
Extract USB drivers and install it.
Extract Auto Root.
Reboot your phone to Download mode using combination of Power+Home+Volume(-) button.
Open ODIN and choose Auto Root file (.tar.md5 format) in AP.
Hit Start button and wait until device reboot to Recovery mode and installing root files.
After device rebooted, you should see SuperSU app. If you see it, your phone is now rooted.
Reboot your phone back to Download mode. Open ODIN once again and choose the TWRP file (.tar format) in AP.
Hit Start button. After finished reboot to Recovery and TWRP should be installed.
Note:
Doing it so will void your warranty (as KNOX Warranty Void will set to 0x1).
Hope this helps.
Thanks...this did help...and I thought I clicked save a long time ago but I guess I didn't. TWRP in place, and root was successful. Now hopefully Xposed framework will catch up to lollipop so I can run X-Privacy again.

Hey guys... i've been trying to put a custom rom on this old p5113.... i've tried flashing latest TWRP on it with odin which odin claims its successful, but when i reboot the device and try to go into recovery i get back the original samsung recovery.... it's almost like it overwrites recovery at boot... i've read number of guides on this but i seem to be following the same steps they're suggesting.... am i missing anything obvious? from my understanding it's a straight up odin flash on custom recovery and then just use that to wipe/format and install rom + gapps.
Any ideas?

how are you doing it exactly, do you unplug the usb cable just as you see its "passed" with green status? or let it reboot itself? or are you rebooting it yourself? usually it will reboot itself into the recovery after it is successful, sometimes it goes to the system directly, generally the idea is to get into the recovery mode as soon as you flash it through odin. you should not let it boot and go to system( means don't let it start your rom, no samsung logo instead go to recovery first by pressing your volume up with power button. (if it's not going directly into recovery)

I almost bricked my phone because of that stupid userdata.img inside the Twrp recovery
For 2 days I've been trying to install a rom with the twrp recovery, which always worked nice although a bit slow, but since the installed rom always had issues, this time I put not only the twrp recovery in flashboot, but also the userdata.img, which by the way there's no reference about it in any doc of the zip
As a result my phone didn't pass forward the coloured Leeco splash screen in chinese, (the one that cames before the twrp spashscreen).
I shut it down and put it on charge, but it didn't even seem to be charging! the red led was always on and the battery had no progress bar, just a 'sparkle' symbol. If that thing isn't even charging, how the hell would I enter fastboot?
Thankfully I got back the normal recovery and bootloader.
So, anyone reading, DO NOT flash userdata.img in fastboot!
