my tab2 starts up with a system recovery screen.
i started reading on the forum, and according to many threds, i ned to wipe data/factory reset and then flash a ro. so i copied a rom(omni 4.4.2) to my micro sd, wiped data/factory reset but then it stops. There is no flash option in the system recovery screen.
anyone who can help?
thanks ina dvance.
Sounds like you are dealing with the Stock recovery.
To flash a custom ROM you FIRST need to flash a custom recovery to flash the ROM.
- For CM11 flash Philz Touch or CWM Swipe Edition through ODIN3.
- For OMNI flash TWRP through ODIN3.
This means: Get the .tar.md5 from Android Andi's file repository, install ODIN3 + USB drivers on your computer, put the Tablet into Download Mode, start ODIN3, select the recovery file as a "PDA" file, connect the tablet, flash it, disconnect after flashing, get into the custom recovery (Power + Vol UP), flash the ROM + gapps.
Or ... maybe read the OP post of the custom ROM you want to flash with a bit more care and attention - it's usually pointed out that you need a custom recovery in order to flash the ROM (stock recovery won't cut it).

Hi,
I'm trying to root and install CWM recovery on samsung i8558 Galaxy Win (China Mobile version).
I have at hand a set of stock firmware, a pre-rooted boot.img, and a cwm recovery image (6.0.3.7) built from cyanogenmod source only with recovery.fstab replaced with the one extracted from stock recovery.
Also I've tried ROM Manager, but it won't boot into recovery after claiming to have installed CWM.
I have successfully rooted the device using the prerooted boot.img.
The problem is that when I flash my custom cwm recovery onto the phone, it won't boot into recovery by normal means (holding home, vol+, power). I can only enter recovery via 'adb reboot recovery'. Unfortunately it leaves me stuck in recovery mode, 'reboot system now' fails, 'adb reboot' fails, the only way out I've found is flashing stock recovery.
I guess my cwm image is not properly configured to suit my device. I have tried the Recovery Builder at builder.clockworkmod.com, but its output is totally out of function - black screen without anything.
Any clues?
Which CWM did you use?
I'm using i8552 with many custom Rom and finally a swipe cwm. Which cwm did you use to flash?
Also if you are on JB 4.2.2 will you send me a snap shot of your settings page, notification bar and About page?
Let's help each other here...
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7'' Wifi (P3110) with CM 10.1.3.
Thing is, I wanted to install the latest nightly, so I booted in Recovery mode, tried to install the zip file and I had a Status 7 error. So after that I decided to stay with my CM version, but when I try to boot the tablet it goes to recovery mode and doesn't boot! I tried to wipe everything and still. I can't flash anything else (not even the CM version I already have) because I keep getting the Status 7 error.
I am desperate, I don't know what to do!
Well, you attempted to flash CM11/Omni with the wrong recovery, that's why you got the "Error 7"
Anyway, the problem should be easy to rectify.
1. Install ODIN3 on your computer (don't forget to also install the Samsung USB drivers as well).
EDIT In case you are about to install the drivers by installing "Kies" ... make SURE that NONE of the Kies components are running in the background (on Windows) once you try to flash with ODIN3 - or it won't work. If you Google around for a bit, there are several Downloads for JUST the USB drivers - I can upload you the USB drivers installer I used for my P3110 (flashed back to Stock to sell it off)) /EDIT
2. Download the correct .tar.md5 recovery file for the ROM you're going to use from Android Andi's file repository.
For CyanogenMod 11 you want to grab either PhilZ Touch or CWM Swipe Edition, for OMNI you want to grab TWRP.
3. Start ODIN3 and select the <recovery>.tar.md5 as a PDA file (make sure that nasty checkmark at "Repartition" is NOT checked"!)
4. Power on the tablet and make sure you get it into Download Mode
If it boots into Download Mode itself, that fine. If not just press... was it Power + VOL Down?... until you see the screen telling you to pres VOL up to proceed into Download Mode.
5. Connect the tablet to the computer (wait a second in case Windows decides to install the driver)
6. Flash the recovery
7. Disconnect after flash, jump into the recovery, flash CM11 or OMNI
Of course you can also flash back to Stock ROM (given you have the ODIN flashable tar.md5 at hand), verify that it boots after flashing, get into download mode, flash the custom recovery, flash the custom ROM.

Thanks! I didn't know that was a recovery problem!
Somehow I couldn't reboot into Download mode with the key combo so I used ADB for that, and flashed the new recovery with Heimdall (in the CMW official website the versions are old, maybe that was the problem...).
Then I installed CM.
Thanks again!

I am aware you managed to flash the ROM, but just as a hint about "this is a trap for young players":
IF your tablet is connected to the wall wart (power supply) or to the USB port of computer while trying to trigger the key-combo to hop into download mode or recovery it won't work! Your tablet needs to be _disconnected_!
Update Recovery!
hey you can try update your custom recovery to latest version by downlading the zip file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548257
and than try re-flash your current rom or any kitkat room for your device
Hi, first, thanks for reading. Second, i've already searched de whole google world, and inside all this threads, but....
I CAN'T FLASH ANY RECOVERY! I don't know why!
In fastboot, i put the commands for flashing CWM, TWRP, Philz, and it works with no error. But, when i select the recovery option in my xt1032, it always boot the CUSTOM recovery. What can i do?
And sorry about my english, i´m from argentina.
Thank You!!
Hi. I don't get it. TWRP or CWM or Philz is custom recovery, so if you flash them to your device, of course the stock recovery will be replaced by custom recovery, so when you select Recovery option in Bootloader screen, of course it will bring you to a custom recovery. Yesterday I flashed all kinds of recovery in order to flash ROM (flashable zip file) into my phone but it failed all the time, so I decided to install stock firmware by using mfastboot (and removed custom recovery also).

If you want to flash a custom recovery, you need to have:
- Minimal ABD & Fastboot. Extract it into a folder.
- The recovery's .img file from its website. Its name may be very long, so you should rename it into something shorter, for example "newrecovery.img". Put this file into the same folder that you've just extracted Minimal ADB & Fastboot.
- Boot your phone into Bootloader screen (by first keep holding your Volume Down then press Power button for a short while). Connect the phone to your computer. In your computer, open the folder that contains Minimal ADB & Fastboot and the .img file of the custom recovery aforementioned. Now hold Shift key on your computer's keyboard and right click your mouse on the blank space of the folder. Choose "Open command prompt here''. When you see a black window, type:
fastboot flash recovery newrecovery.img
then Enter. The custom recovery will be installed right away. After that, choose Recovery on your Bootloader screen and the custom recovery will open. Yesterday I read on a website that some ROMs overwrote your custom recovery when your phone rebooted so that might be the reason why you cannot use the custom recovery you've just installed. I don't know how to solve this as I'm just a noob.
However, why do you need to install custom recovery? Does your phone still work properly? What kind of ROM are you using? If your phone doesn't work since the ROM has been messed up, I suggest you do a fresh install as this thread tutors: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219. After restoring your phone to a good state, you may try installing custom recovery again.

Hey guys... i've been trying to put a custom rom on this old p5113.... i've tried flashing latest TWRP on it with odin which odin claims its successful, but when i reboot the device and try to go into recovery i get back the original samsung recovery.... it's almost like it overwrites recovery at boot... i've read number of guides on this but i seem to be following the same steps they're suggesting.... am i missing anything obvious? from my understanding it's a straight up odin flash on custom recovery and then just use that to wipe/format and install rom + gapps.
Any ideas?

how are you doing it exactly, do you unplug the usb cable just as you see its "passed" with green status? or let it reboot itself? or are you rebooting it yourself? usually it will reboot itself into the recovery after it is successful, sometimes it goes to the system directly, generally the idea is to get into the recovery mode as soon as you flash it through odin. you should not let it boot and go to system( means don't let it start your rom, no samsung logo instead go to recovery first by pressing your volume up with power button. (if it's not going directly into recovery)
Found this how-to guide and thought it might be nice to have it on site here in XDA. This is to go back to Stock ROM and Recovery. I know a lot of the roms right now are pretty experimental so here's a guide to go back to stock if you need a more solid daily driver for now. Anyway, onto the guide, but first, the sources:

maybe a mismatched recovery/kernel version.
Which version of android are you running? Easiest way to test is just to flash a newer stock Rom. Since you have TWRP, do a full nandroid back up and then flash the latest nougat Rom and it should overwrite recovery. If recovery now works, extract the recovery partition, flash TWRP, restore your data backup and then restore your recovery backup.
got it done now just had to get the right rom for the phone and flashed it over on twrp but know it said it was rooted and then kinda just took itself off of it when doing root check its taking around 30secs to tell me unrooted when before it would tell me if it wqs or wasent in a few seconds
I have done every thing correctly, in original recovery when i press "install update from sdcard" i get "Couldent mount /sdcard" and thats it. iam stuck.
(BTW there is no sd card installed, only internal memory)
how can i resolve this?

Could you add "Z017D_WW_14.2020.1708.56" or indicate which one to use please ?

Stock recovery not working.
I have changed the ROM to my Asus Zenfone 3 ZE552KL many times. Tried again this morning, and last night.Failed.
Long story, please be patience with me.
- I managed to get the latest ROM from: https://www.asus.com/ro/Phone/ZenFone-3-ZE552KL/HelpDesk_Download/ (actually i got it from the english version) and installed the latest using the stock recovery.
- Previously i had root on my phone by flashing with TWRP, SuperSu. With the latest firmware from the official Asus site, SuperSu is not working anymore. I tried different versions of Supersu (flash versions and app versions) nothing worked. I was unable to get root back on my phone. For me root is very important.
- If i try to install stock rom's using TWRP 3.02. i can't. TWRP 3.0.2 does not recognize my sd-card, i can only copy rom's into internal storage. NO stock rom (even the old ones from 2016) will install on twrp 3.02.
If i install TWRP 3.1.0 or TWRP 3.1.1 i can access sd-card and install all the rom's. Installing is successful but it will boot about 5 times until i get message "your device has failed verification and may not work properly . The device will shutdown in 10 seconds"
- The solution that i found 1 month ago, is to flash stock recovery, and install using stock recovery a stock rom from asus website. I tried to do this last night & this morning. Failed to do so. Reason: no stock recovery works anymore. You can find stock recoveries here : https://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-88883-1-1.html I also tried to ask for help on that forum, but it won't let me post in that thread.
- I had an old stock recovery, but i lost it. I need a stock recovery that will work. After i flash the stock recovery it gets stuck at "powered by Android" it does not continue from there.
- I can flash back custom TWRP recovery, but even if i install official stock rom it wont boot. I need a working stock recovery, or any solution.
I am stuck . Please help me!
