I have a Strait talk SM-S975L galaxy S4 running Kit Kat insane rom android 4.4.2. Baseband version S975LUDUANB1. I have noticed with both this and the factory stock that my 4G and 4G LTE signal completely disappears (I lose all data connectivity and can only call and receive sms) in the town that I work, no 3G signal, no H+, H signal nothing. This is about 15 miles from my home town where the 4G/ 4G lte signal is great. I used to have a straight talk galaxy S3 that worked fine in this area. When I spoke to straight talk technical support, they told me the reason is that the S4 doesn't work well in this area is because it runs off AT&T towers only, and not both AT&T and Verizon(unlike my S3). My question is this, is there a way to flash the modem or do some other hack that will enable me to get a signal off both towers, like my S3 had? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

My N5 is not great at picking up LTE service. My AT&T signal is weak at my house and I don't get LTE, although my Galaxy S2 used to connect that way. Not sure if the phone really doesn't see it or if it thinks it's too weak and HSPA would work better.

I have the same issue on T-Mobile. My phone sucks about picking up and using LTE whereas my Nexus 4, a phone that required hacking to get LTE enabled, was a champ. My N4 would remain on LTE all day while in the city regardless of signal strength with no real observable detriment to my battery.
With the Nexus 5, I'm lucky to have it switch to LTE in high signal areas. My Nexus 5 will stay on LTE if I force it to connect using LTE Only (you lose voice with this setting) under the secret dialer menu (*#*#4636#*#*), but if I let the phone decide, it sticks with 3G/HSPA+.
I'm paying for LTE and I want to use it, damn it! LTE at half signal strength is still faster than HSPA+ at full strength for me on T-Mobile.
Actually as I travel along the Ohio Turnpike it is not doing too badly, picking up LTE as we pass near metro areas (Toledo, Cleveland). It is also working great tethering my tablet with Wi-Fi as well.

I'm having the exact same issue here I'm in the Los Angeles area and I have experienced good speeds on LTE up to 23 down and 12 up but one thing I have noticed is my LTE drops a lot in to H. I'm coming from Verizon which always stayed on LTE locked in so I guess I was spoiled. I left verizon because I got sick of them hating on Nexus Phones but man right now I'm hating these LTE drops on AT&T. But I know for a fact that it's a phone problem because when the phones goes from LTE to H I can manually restore the LTE but I can't get it to stay locked. I called them and they're response was it's just the phone switching from tower to tower.
I have a LG Nexus 5 and i have a strong LTE signal in my area along side HSPA+ if i make a Phone call LTE drops and HSPA is activated while the phone call is over it goes back to LTE in 20 seconds or so.
However if i use data while on HSPA+ mode it seems it wont handoff to LTE seamlessly
Like if you're on Verizon using 3g streaming consistently (not pandora something consistent downloading/upload like tunein radio) it would secretly bump you back to 4G LTE without any problems and stream would continue without even you noticing
T-Mobile however on the other hand doesn't until you stop the data usage and then it bumps back up to LTE
test it out download Tunein radio and stream a station make sure you're on HSPA+/HSPA then while streaming go to a location with like full or best LTE signal. (I went to the mall and drove right under the tower and phone still insists HSPA+)
not sure whats going on here? the Network not telling the phone to handoff? or some internal network issue or an issue with my nexus 5
by the way i am stock android 4.4.2 no root or recovery or whatever
So my question is is there a way to fix this? or is this something i need to email John Legere about?
I have similar issues but for Verizon losing eVDO and going to LTE is probably because EHRPD is making the switch more seamless. However, when my phone switches from HSPA to LTE I drop down to GPRS for a few seconds.

Bought a Verizon S6 to use on AT&T.
I setup AT&T's APN settings on the S6 and I have accessed H+ but not 4G LTE.
Can anyone offer any insight?
Most Verizon phones do not get att lte. However I do know the Verizon Droid Turbo, 2nd Gen. Moto CA and Vzw iphone 5s and up gets Att LTE.. .
AT&T SIM on VZW S6
Hello,
I have the same question how AT&T SIM would behave on VZW S6.
1. Which APN Are you using? Are you using phone or pta APN?
2. When receiving incoming calls, does the format look like example: +8085551212 missing 1?
your response is appreciated!!!

I got 4g lte .. I used both settings and when I make calls out it drops to 1x and then when receive calls I have 3G. Seems like the pta settings works better didn't see and h or h+ which. Did on the phone apn settings. I have a Vzw iPhone since I work there thought the s6 would be easy since know the turbo works. There's something missing and can't find it. Everything works I do get the +then the number tho. But haven't had issues sending or receiving texts. Just it should drop to 4g when on the phone and should work whether I get or receive calls. Minor issues happening I did switch it to gsm instead of world that may have been why h or h+ didn't occur with pta. I'll update what I figure out if you all do so as well
i remember seeing it somewhere, but can't find it when i need it, how do i permanently disable the non-verizon sim warning when using any other sim in the vzw gs6?
(i have succeeded on a one time basis by force stopping activation agent, but there's a permanent fix if i'm not mistaken)
Verizon variant doesn't support AT&T's original LTE layer which is Band 17. So you won't see LTE on your Verizon variant unless AT&T has either Band 2 or Band 4 deployed in your market.
At&t LTE worked just fine on Verizon S5. So why not S6?

It is a hardware limitation

I think Band 17 is the issue. Most of AT&T LTE is on Band 17.
I am currently connected to LTE (Band 4) on my Verizon G6, using a AT&T sim.
I used the LTE Discovery app to get this info.

^^^^Pretty much confirmed what milan03 said.
Ok This is really weird. I have a Samsung Galaxy Avant sm-g386t1. Phone was working great. I went out of calling area for a few days and was in an area where signal was very weak. Then out of no where phone stopped working properly.
I got back home to the MetroPCS calling area NEW YORK CITY and the phone will only register on the MetroPCS network if im very close to a tower. If I go to my house the phone will no longer register on the network and will only work via WiFi Calling. If I use My wifes phone which is also a 4G LTE Samsung AVANT on MetroPCS her phone works fine. It can be sitting right next to my phone, hers will say MetroPCS mine will say searching and phone not registered on network.
My APN is set properly.
If I go into network search on my Samsung it only shows T-Mobile, 31160, Verizon as available
If I go into network search on my wifes Samsung it shows MetroPCS RAT: LTE MetroPCS RAT: WCDMA MetroPCS : RAT GSM, ATT Rat:WCDMA ATT RAT: GSM VERIZON: RAT: LTE 311 660 RAT:LTE
like I said if I walk 2 blocks away and stand next to the cell tower My Samsung will then register on MetroPCS and the 4GLTE works fast.
Hi all, has anyone here tried or been successful in getting the data or lte over voice calls with Verizon's S6 using Tmobile? I have Tmobile and trying to use my gf's unlocked Verizon Galaxy S6. Almost everything works fine except that while on voice call, the signal drops to 1x and I can not simultaneously use data or receive mms. Are there any fixes for this? Any help would be appreciated as she is planning to switch from Verizon to Tmobile and I would love to just reuse the phone on Tmobile.
PS: Sorry not sure if this should be in a carrier specific thread. If so, not sure which one to choose since it sort of dual carrier concern

Try going to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and change it to LTE / GSM / UMTS and see if that helps.
