went to best buy to try out the s6 and s6 edge.....couldn't find one - handed operation settings.......has anyone noticed this? this was previously on s5 and note 4.
hoping i missed it and it's still there --- anyone care to comment ?
That was one of the casualties when they pared back TouchWiz. Samsung indicated you could download those features from their app store, but not sure when that will be.

I wish they would just get rid of half the features and make them downloadable. Too much bloatware on the Galaxy devices is what made me consider the iPhone 6.

Yeah. No bloat at all.. Oh look a apple watch app! Uninstall..uninstall!!! Damit!
No doubt apple has more say in what comes preinstalled. But that is probably the worse reason I've ever seen someone give on why they considered an iPhone. Almost as bad as "because it's an iPhone" lol
Same problem here
I also had a hands on with the s6 and the edge yesterday but was unable to find the one handed mode settings anywhere. I also tried looking in the Galaxy App Store but couldn't find it there either. I do hope that they do introduce it as a downloadable app or either include it in a future software update. I really loved that feature and was expecting to see it since it's also present on the 5 inch A5. Let's hope Sammy listens to us and introduces a downloadable app for it soon.
Its a shame its removed as it was an actual useful feature. I mean even the 4.7inch iPhone 6 has some kind of one handed mode as well. I hope they add it back in after a firmware update.

It's not removed, it's actually improved you just pull diagonally from either corner to the size you want. I think it was phone arena review that showed it. Sort of how you do on a Windows pc.

That's multi window not one handed mode.
One thing to keep in mind is that these devices you see on display at various retailers are preinstalled with retail software, heavily restricted as far as the settings are concerned. If you've ever seen a display iPhone with the disability assist mode turned on, you would understand why Samsung does this.

It's a nice feature, but the windowed mode will not work with all apps. Unless there is an Xposed module I don't know of, only main Samsung apps will support that, no 3rd-party ones will.
does xda one-hand mode work on s6 edge?
I have xposed installer and phone is rooted. Installer is recognizing Kingroot and appmanager 5.0 (adds apps to Ultimate Power Save Mode). I installed xda one-hand mode premium and did settings but nothing happening. I re-booted. Still not working and Installer doesn't know it is there.
Any idea if this feature will be back? It is very useful....samsung should remove the other gimmick features instead of the useful ones
At recomhub theres a post (cant post link here) about one handed mode on the S6 with marshmallow, can anyone confirm that it's back? it might be back with 6.0, or that post might be wrong as some older reviews mentioning one-handed mode for the S6

You're talking about this one. http://recomhub.com/blog/how-to-set-up-galaxy-s6-for-one-handed-use/
Nope, a different one, from December 25, 2015, talking about Marshmallow (there are some references in other websites to one-handed mode in the S6 with previous Android versions, but they are clearly wrong)
I've got a co-worker with a S6+ stuck in one handed mode for the keyboard. He doesn't want that, but can't turn it off as there's no "One Handed Operation " anywhere in settings (marshmallow). Anyone solve this?

Yes, I know. As far as I know, only the one that is predefined works for all Android phones. If I can find more codes, I update the app. immediately.
EDIT: I updated the app with some codes that work on most Android phones
Nice work. But i have a layout prob. Im not able to see some entries (can't scroll), and therefore, layout is f*ckd
we need scrollbars
phone: HTC Hero
So far, only the first button/code works on Nexus One. Anyone knows the other codes?
thanks for the app - on HTC Desire works only first code btw.
thanks but...
app has potential, but for the time being none of them have worked on my slide and the layout problem causes some issues, try either setting buttons to half screen size and putting them side by side(two per row) or letting us scroll. thanks
Nothing works on the evo. It just opens the dialer
I will have to hit the code thread in the evo forums and update the codes
nice job........

Really, more buttons?
Good App, I like the ability to change the buttons. These phone code programs are rough to make work on every phone they really have to be geared toward a specific phone because each phone uses different codes for different stuff. Here is one I made for the Galaxy S Series: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772690
Some phones have the ability to type codes blocked out also (epic4g).

Hey,

Interesting, I can see it too; it's probably somehow been enabled there, but the actual functionality behind it won't appear until it's fully released.

I'm sure Google will add plenty of nice features for this but it's just absolutely ridiculous how you can't locate your phone unless you physically have your GPS on. What if, like me, GPS is only ever turned on when I need it. Useless if it got stolen (luckily I use Where Is My Droid aswell...)

ADM may be revolutionary for Nexus/pure devices but Samsung Dive/Find My Mobile has been doing the same thing (and more) for at least two years. Google could re-package dog crap as a "feature" and people would go nuts where the manufacturers have been doing some pretty cool stuff that gets overlooked, criticized, or taken for granted.

The problem is Samsung features like the one you described are often hidden under a stale and flowless user interface.
Thouchwiz is a weakness that Samsung must fix.
In light of the UI changes being made both Apple and Google... Samsung needs to do some major work.

And you think finding ADM under "Security>Device administrators" on the device and in a "store" under "settings" on a PC is supremely fresh and intuitive? The latter seems like a kludge either because Google was too lazy to create a dedicated site for ADM or it was cheaper/faster just to throw it in to Play because that’s where all their device management already takes place.
This is where Find My Mobile's controlled on the device. Pretty simple and straight-forward to me.

I think the features in TW are great; it's one of the reasons I buy Samsung devices. I agree that the appearance of TW is dated and could use an overhaul to make it more contemporary. Sense is a beautiful (but functionally deficient) overlay in my opinion. I think stock Android is a barren wasteland aesthetically and functionally. Comparing it to iOS is a really big stretch. Now that a GE SGS4 exists those that hate TW don't have to continue to attack it.
Touchwiz isnt the problem AT ALL. The problem is samsungs software only works on touchwiz. This works on just about everything, and as featureless as it might be at the moment, it wouldnt take google long to catch up if they wanted to.

animated blinking Cat eyes with phone in sleep mode
Credits go to this poster and app http://forum.xda-developEsers.com/showthread.php?p=63813360
I found many hidden menus and testing apps on my unrooted lg v10 with quickshortcutmaker. My favorite one was for the second screen which also can send test notifications.
Those are the prettiest ones by far.
Here are other things that the second screen can do.
this is a side scrolling message
this one the purple water waves with phone
movement
Plus many other various hidden setting and testing items
There are many more but these are the most
Important ones. Lollipop's hidden eggs can
also be directly accessed with quickshortcutmaker.
Etc...
I hope this can help some Devs here.
To see + enable the animated Cat eyes I used QuickSortcutMaker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sQBVRDIyoVhMbwwZg&sig2=eoxS0Im6KoCtNESCbndlKA it is free and very simaler to a file manager but it only sees installed .apks and modules.
Open QuickShortcutMaker when installer is finished
Set QuickShortcutMaker to use incremental search
Stay in the Activities view column
Search for SignBoardTest
Expand it
Select the item directly below in it's heirchy
Create a shortcut in QuickShortcutMaker
In the Sub screen that opens tap test or create
Once done Open SignBoardTest
Select Sample Runs/EventListener Test
Being careful not to accidentally tap anything here
Scroll all the way down to the bottom
Below the Show SignBoard Only heading
Tap on Yes, Sir
Tap again to stop
I don't recommend leaving the animated
Cats eyes running for long periods.
Although it does look really kewl. It is brighter than the normally displayed time.
It may cause burn-in marks eventually.
If you are like me, ofc you will have to "test
out" all the other settings there too, lol.
If you do just be sure to either tap Stop, Cancel or
re-tap the setting again to stop it.
Plus remember what you did and where.
Or you might end up with strange notifications
on your phone for weeks. Don't say I didn't
warn you.
Also inside SignBoard Test/Notification Config
The length of time the second screen displays notifications can be adjusted permentally until you change it.
Hint: Most of the hidden test and setting menus I found have the words lge, system, ui, Verizon, VZW, android, egg, hidden, secret or test in their names.
There are lots more...
I'm wondering if "Eva" is going to be LG's Siri
Can't find this...can you post more instructions....how'd you get those eyes up there?
Seems like an ongoing notification... This is what I have while screen on.

I have yet to find everything listed. However the eyes can be turned on using the app mentioned in op, look for "sign board test" then choose "sample runs" next pick "event listener test" scroll down and click "yes sir" = profit the blinking eyes.
Now I'd prefer to have something more custom but haven't figured out how that was accomplished.
Oh and with the eyes enabled you've given up any other function of the second screen. Well at least that's my experience so far as I've just started messing with this. I very well may be wrong. That ish happens all the time with me. At least I'm learning right?
Anyway thanks to the OP for the hint in the right direction.

Now that 7.0 is public, I'm curious about everyone's favorite additions. This may shed some light on features that may otherwise go unnoticed. My personal favorite by far; The U.S. keyboard finally has sub-symbols! The U.S. models had this at launch, but the Exynos models, for whatever reason, never had it, and required root to access it.
So what feature are you most grateful for?

I love the double tap recent button to jump between two apps back and forth.
Probably my favorite feature is the Neko easter egg, I have three so far.
-The DPI, Screen res and the edition tools for the screenshot are nice too.

Definitely performance mode and battery life. But I'm really missing cover art on the lockscreen.

Hi everyone,
I posting here to point out how limited is the Always on display feature on this phone.
Before getting in the subject, what is Always on Display (aod) ?
AOD is a native Samsung feature (it does exist on other phone with different names) that allow smartphones to show informations on the screen when it's off. This feature is useful not to have to turn the screen so many times in the day to check the notifications and hour. This is a feature made possible with AMOLED screens allowing black pixels to stay off and those prevent the screen using much battery.
Now that everyone know what we are talking about, I can show you what I mean and where I want to go with this thread. Here is a screen from a Samsung Galaxy s8:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And here on from the A8 :
What appears is that we can't use images even if it is teased on the play store description of the aod app. Here a screen from the play store :
And we cannot use the edge clock.
Finally, the number of backgrounds and customisations is very poor : a very few amount of colors and 4 backgrounds.
I've been looking for a way to use the edge clock, or an image and couldn't find any.
The only partial solution I found for images is an app called Custom AOD
If you have anything to add, or any suggestion, feel free to comment

Thanks for the info. I just bought an A8 through Virgin, I'm in western Canada and hoping to get the update this month...the wifi reliability has been terrible and I've done all the troubleshooting I can. I don't want to send it for warranty (only had it 3 weeks) until I get Oreo and see if it was a software issue that was resolved with the Oreo update.
:good:

If it's a virgin version it might be delayed except if it's an unlocked version

About customisation with Oreo: I find it even more restrictive. the background isn't an option anymore. We don't have edge clock (and probably never will since it has been made to fit with the curved screen). Also we still cannot pin images. The only step forward is the access to themes through the store, but let me tell you a thing: it's actually always the same style with just different colors and a different image (that you cannot change by yourself ).
I'm being so negative because I see a lot of potential, I'm always disappointed with those features that doesn't allow personalisation but don't get me wrong, I really like AOP ?

the oreo update is out for every a8 variant other than a530w... we're both stuck on nougat ?
also yes the wifi is VERY bad, i only get half the speed of my wifi and sometimes it even disconnects
this is not a warranty problem either, its supposed to be like that apparently because i sent my phone to warranty and they said it was a software problem...

Mh so right now AOD app features are basically same as high-end devices ones lol (expect edge clock; not sure if it needs just the SecProductFeature string put or if it needs even all the Edge apks/frameworks). If you wanna get some more features (even if I doubt there are lol) open /system/etc/floating_feature.xml file, search for the AOD Feature string (SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_CONFIG_AOD_ITEM) and delete "-fhd_limit," feature.

Thanks for the idea, I'm not rooted tho, I'll wait until the garanty expire before doing so, but I keep the idea in mind. My hope for that feature goes to Android P(if we get it .. in about a year ?) , they can clearly improve it, it's already cool, but it feels so limited speaking of customisation.

It's just as it should be lol, if Samsung continues to add more **** like gifs or more colorful ux on AOD it will drain lot more of battery even tho the phone goes in Doze, and 10% more of battery isn't bad to have
