Not sure how this happened but I've now got Android Device Manager under settings, device administrator.
The other day my phone had a hissy fit, restarted and went into "safe mode" and then after restarting had reset all the Widgets and task bar to stock (lost all my folders etc) checked here this morning and had the option to activate!

Hey,
I think it's not been activated by Google just yet - that's what I've been reading.. though it should up active soon.
Interesting, I can see it too; it's probably somehow been enabled there, but the actual functionality behind it won't appear until it's fully released.

I am on stock rom i9505.
It says
"Allow Android Device Manager to lock or erase a lost device"
Give it a try.

Also on PAC. My phone flipped out and started force closing over and over last night out of nowhere. Now I have ADM too.

ADM is now live and working. See here for info and here for thread
I'm sure Google will add plenty of nice features for this but it's just absolutely ridiculous how you can't locate your phone unless you physically have your GPS on. What if, like me, GPS is only ever turned on when I need it. Useless if it got stolen (luckily I use Where Is My Droid aswell...)

ADM may be revolutionary for Nexus/pure devices but Samsung Dive/Find My Mobile has been doing the same thing (and more) for at least two years. Google could re-package dog crap as a "feature" and people would go nuts where the manufacturers have been doing some pretty cool stuff that gets overlooked, criticized, or taken for granted.

The problem is Samsung features like the one you described are often hidden under a stale and flowless user interface.
Thouchwiz is a weakness that Samsung must fix.
In light of the UI changes being made both Apple and Google... Samsung needs to do some major work.

And you think finding ADM under "Security>Device administrators" on the device and in a "store" under "settings" on a PC is supremely fresh and intuitive? The latter seems like a kludge either because Google was too lazy to create a dedicated site for ADM or it was cheaper/faster just to throw it in to Play because that’s where all their device management already takes place.
This is where Find My Mobile's controlled on the device. Pretty simple and straight-forward to me.

I think the features in TW are great; it's one of the reasons I buy Samsung devices. I agree that the appearance of TW is dated and could use an overhaul to make it more contemporary. Sense is a beautiful (but functionally deficient) overlay in my opinion. I think stock Android is a barren wasteland aesthetically and functionally. Comparing it to iOS is a really big stretch. Now that a GE SGS4 exists those that hate TW don't have to continue to attack it.
Touchwiz isnt the problem AT ALL. The problem is samsungs software only works on touchwiz. This works on just about everything, and as featureless as it might be at the moment, it wouldnt take google long to catch up if they wanted to.

Its amazing. it will give you total access to your phone and you can do anything remotely! you just login with your google account from anywhere.
If your phone gets stollen you can control anything. camera, gps, etc... even if sim card is changed
check it out!
Looks great however my concern is the fact that this is done on his web server..
What if it goes down?
What if he just decides to drop it?
What if his site is hacked?
He can technically access this stuff...Not saying he would but it sure seems like a lot of trust to put in someone you'll never know.

Thanks , unbelievable !

Installing this in my GTAB too !
This is one application I can never complain about.
I travelled to India around 4 months back and lost my phone when I was shopping.
I complained to the police and the cybercell about it.
I was so upset becoz I had lot personal info in the phone and ofcourse its an expensive phone too.
Then i went home and started to search the web for something like findmyphone. Then I found this app.
( I had samsungdive installed but it did not give me the location info)
Installed this OTA in my phone and started tracking my phone.
Police was then able to follow my guide and was able to locate the phone.
All this was done free.
Had I not had this app it was garunteed lost.
EDIT : the best thing is that if you have a google account with android market in your phone , u can even install it after you loose ur phone
Here's an actual link to the app (why isn't it in the OP?):

And yes, you're giving the author of the app potentially full access to all the data on your phone.
Prey is another app that is more restrained but gives you similar features to track the devices, lock it down, erase it etc. It's also free.
Also, Lookout which also has a malware scanner.

I was wondering what if my phone's connections such as wifi, 3G were switched off? I've tested with my phone's wifi switched off, nothing happened. Things will be active only when my phone's connections available. So it's great but kind of nonsense.
What do you think?
Nokia 3310 -> Siemen Scorpion -> LG GL500 -> Nokia NGage -> Nokia 8850 -> Lenovo LP500 -> iPhone 2G 4Gb -> iPhone 2G 8Gb -> LG Optimus One P500 -> Dell Streak 5 -> Galaxy Note GT-N7000 -> ???
assuming who stole/found your phone will not unlink the phone from your google account or just factory resets it... And I guess this would be the firts thing anyone non-honest would do.
i still prefer cerberus, which has a cwm-installable version, making settings, etc persistent across wipes (unless someone flashes a new rom).
small one-time amount to pay for the same features as this, with more features included

I don't think is really necessary to restart the phone every X time, this is why the Multi task engine or whatever its called on android can autoclose apps en free memory and RAM every certain time...
You don't have to reboot Android or Windows often.

We don't need to reboot our smartphones, but, at least in Brazil, Motorola says we need to reboot it once a day (LOL), sure it doesn't need.

Thanks again, you have reason. Look, this is the capture of the page of support of Motorola say: if you reboot dayli, you have better battery .
I really don't understand why Motorola says that, but I know they say that since Razr i. Anyways, I'm glad to help clarify some stuff sometimes we just need a friendly answer.

That is how Android works. Even if you swipe off the app in the recents applications, the background process of the app is still running and not killed. The only way to do this is to force stop the application or service.
Try greenify app from the play store. You can choose the hibernate the apps that you want and it will stop running until you force run it again. This is by far one of my favourite applications.
It makes more sense to install BBS and find the reason behind poor battery life, if you have problems with it. If you just restart your phone, the problem might go away for a while, but it will come back in the end.

There is no sane reason to reboot the phone daily, it is a very clueless advice, even if it comes from Motorola. Rebooting the phone only hides the actual problem instead of solving it. If you don't have any faulty app, then it will be even worse because the reboot cycle uses way more battery than letting the phone sleep on your desk, and if you have something that eats up your battery, you should get rid of that. Check first the Battery page in Settings, to check if there is anything suspicious.
Maybe i'm blind but can't find any type of HTC task manager on this device? Had it on stock ATT HTC One X+ device. I'm new to Verizon, switched specifically for this device and better deal with service so this is all new to me here.
Just seems odd zero task manager installed at all. Never had to use a third party, any recommendations? Thanks
I see in Settings, App manager, you can scroll right to Running apps and manually tap and stop. Anyway to have these apps NOT become active after a reboot? I'm spoiled and use to root and greenify and what not. Never use apps like Verizon Cloud, Verizon messages, NFL, etc.
Facebook app uses 48mb just for push services? Already have half the ram used up and only using mandatory apps running except Facebook, Messenger, GSam Battery Monitor, AppLock, Dropbox (all except Facebook and Messenger only use maybe 5-10mb each).
Closest I can find is by pressing the recent apps button and clicking the four square icon in the top right. That's typically the most we'll get w/o root apps

True. I mainly like to hold off as long as I can until I have to root. As much as I like tinkering with Android stuff I always have that time period where I'm not willing to mess with my new$600 phone. After that period I just go flash happy.

Damn well disabling all Verizon bloatware and Amazon crap did something. I have gallery lock lite to hide personal pics/vids from the stock gallery app. I have the pics and vids saved on external sd card from previous device so these are not saved on internal.
Well now they are all visible again in stock gallery app like I never hid them. They also show inside the gallery lock app.
I had vaulty app before which worked great but on this device does not hide stuff. Not sure if it's a kit Kat 4.4.2 thing or what? Seems odd after reboot they are all visible again in gallery app though. Damnit. More reason to root! Can't even have private photos on my sd card, WTH?

You could start with anti viruses and alike... or see what processes are running through adb / shell when the message shows up.
Connect the android to your computer running a live logcat and see what happens when that creepy smile shows up.
It's weird, never saw anything like that before, seems like from one moment to another will jump our of the screen and start hacking and slashing :b

Strange indeed. Could it be a network message of some sort? Though I haven't heard of it before, it's possible that it is a network connection acknowledgment of some sort.
here are my findings..
current network: TELCEL (mexico)
smiley appearing after loosing and regaining signal (doesnt matter if it has data enabled or not)
apparently theres a sim toolkit in every sim from TELCEL, i thought that it might be the main issue (toolkit is some services the network provider has )
current solution: changed runtime from dalvik to ART, has been almost 24 hrs without that smiley... just fyi

Hey Guys,
I am finding the Optimiser app to be stopping notifications from coming up on some apps, such as pushbullet, messaging to some extent, and so on until i open the app.
It seems the huawei battery optimisation is pretty aggressive. I went through a discovery process years ago with battery optimiser apps that from what I understood, basically boiled down to them being unnecessary for most devices at that version of android.
My question is, can I remove the huawei optimiser app using ADB, is it safe to do so? I don't want to individually have to tell the optimiser app to not optimise each app as I download them. I just want to remove the optimiser and be done with it, but i also still want to know batterybusage of apps etc if they get out of control and android isnt natively dealing with them properly then id like to remove them.
Thoughts on this, anyone?
Thanks very much,
Good question, it's also seem to be very resources hungry. I had to keep mine because I need to for maintaining my existing call block lists.

I just want to remove the optimiser and be done with it, but i also still want to know batterybusage of apps etc if they get out of control and android isnt natively dealing with them properly then id like to remove them.
Thoughts on this, anyone?
Thanks very much,

You can't have both, you can kill power genie and have all apps run as they were intended, OR you can have per app battery use stats, killing power genie will break that function
https://dontkillmyapp.com/huawei
Personally it's a small price to pay to fix everything else and makes no difference to battery life

You still had issues with notifications not coming through even when battery optimization and adjusting Launch settings manually was configured?

Yea, WhatsApp point blank refused to give me any notifications at all unless I opened the app, tried absolutely everything related to the battery/launch etc settings, nothing worked, it's because power genie has a white list of apps that are allowed to run in the background and you cannot edit that list
Thankfully killing PG was nice and easy and ended my months of annoyance of missing messages

I adb uninstalled Optimiser App, it took a good few things with it also including ability to block black listed numbers that I had have stored and also the battery menu I think in settings also disappeared completely.
You can see what the Optimiser app is running system app wise , under developer option then running services. It's the 2nd Android system with mutiple processes running. I turned off virus checker but it still seems to be running as you can see.

Was only Power Genie you were supposed to uninstall, I lost per app battery stats but nothing else, but since upgrading to 10 I haven't had to kill it yet, WhatsApp is running as it should this time

I know , my comment was slightly off topic. As I was curious about Optimiser app.

Ah right with you now, only sounds like blocked numbers might be a pain to lose really, not had any issues with the optimizer app though
Noticed any improvements since killing it ?

No, I didn't have it uninstalled long enough to verify. I needed my block call list.
