First I want to describe my situation:
I want to use an older phone as a webcam. The webcam is outdoor and there was no power source available.
So I bought a solarpanel which has an inbuilt USB charger for phones. The solar panel works great and it doesn't take long until the battery is full.
The problem is that the sun is not allways there when you need it I needed a battery with higher capacity that the phone (webcam) can be used longer without the need to get charged. So I bought two 5000mAh batteries from Amazon, connected them in parallel and changed them with the orignal battery from the phone. (btw. the phone is a Huawei Ascend Y201 Pro)
The problem is that the phone won't charge the battery. I found out that the third pin in the phone is to monitor the battery. If that pin is not connected the battery won't be charged.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?
First I thought about buying one of these external battery packs. But all that I found have a button that has to be pressed in order to charge the battery. But that is not possible because the phone (webcam) should work autarkical.
Some have an autostart function but after the battery is full it is required to replug the phone in order to get the battery charged again. Is there an app maybe that can disconnect and reconnect the USB connection without unplugging the cable?

I woke up to find my SDA powered off and unable to power on, which was odd considering it was plugged in to a (Motorola) charger.
Since the orange charge light doesn't come on at all, I suspect it's just a dead battery. I've touched the battery contacts to a battery tester with no response - as if the battery is totally dead, which is promising. However, I can't be sure I'm doing it correctly since I've never tried this on a battery I know is working.
There are 4 contacts on the battery, and I'm wondering if there's more to it - like needing to have 2 contacts touching the positive lead and the other 2 touching the negative lead.
Can someone try testing their battery and see which contacts give a live (charged) result?

Normally you shouldn't try to use chargers not designed for your phone. What has probably happened is that there wasn't enough current output in the charger, and it completely drained your battery. Your battery is probably fine. Get a proper SDA charger and try charging it again. You can even take it to a store and ask them to plug it in for 15 minutes while you browse the new phones.
Yeah - I lost the original charger, but I've been charging with this Motorola one (output 5V / 550 mAh) and via USB for the past 6 months without problem. I still think it may be the battery because it was at 50% when I went to sleep.
What are the output specs of the original charger?

The stock HTC charger (model ADP-5FH K) has output of 1A at 5V. But if you had no trouble charging before it shouldn't be a issue, unless the charger/battery is faulty.
If you have a multimeter you can verify this. To check if your battery is charged place contacts in (+) and (-) contacts on your battery and it should show ~3.7V. I just tried this.

Thanks, silencer. I don't have a multi-meter, but I was using the battery tester as a way to gauge whether it was putting out any current at all, and it sounds like it's not. You were testing the 1st and 4th contacts?
I have read elsewhere that if your battery goes below 10-20% you won't be able to charge it with anything but the stock charger, so I think that's the problem, but I'll probably order a new battery as well just in case.
Yes I check the voltage between first and forth contact. What sort of battery tester are you using? Is there a digital read out display?
You can also try a USB to mini-usb cable to see if the battery get charged. From what I can remember USB ports are designed to give 500mA at 5V, but I have charged my phone when it was flat using a USB cable.
To follow-up in case anyone has this problem in the future: I ordered a new original charger (ADP-5FH) off eBay and with it, the phone's orange charge light came on right away and after giving it a full charge my phone is back up and running.
I'm inclined to think that it's not the difference in mAh of the original charger (1000mAh) vs USB charging (500mAh), but that there is something unique to the original charger which can "turn on" the charging when the battery is completely dead - perhaps something communicated by one of the extra pins in the mini-USB connection.

I receive the battery today and I put on the PDA and then connect to AC adapter...
the battery stops charging in 96% and I disconnect AC adapter, but the phone turns off and only works connected to the AC adapter.
If I use the old battery it works well, but with the new one, only work connected to the AC adapter.
now I have it connected to the cradle, and seems to be charging and says that it is 100%, but after a while it restarts and I don't know why
It's possible that the battery is not charged and windows mobile shows 100%?
my old battery is same model but as only 1200mAh, the new as 1600mAh.

Sounds as though the new batery is either not connecting correctly in the XDA or is a fauty unit that wont hold a charge. Given thatthe phone turns off immediately you disconnect the AC i would suspect the former.
Check there isn't stick stuff / tarnish over the battery connecters on the new battery - and that the pins are making contact.
Is it a genuine-looking battery?

it's the battery from the link, it's not genuine, but seems equal to my other battery.
the new battery says Made in Taiwan and the old says Made in Japan.
apparently the new battery is full charged, but PDA don't use the charge...

I don't think so, I got a 1300mAh (which is a genuine 02 product) for my xda2 and use the original as a back up battery.

I know if you unplug a charging phone in and out a lot it kills the battery, however my question is (as this was a big battery killer on my nokia n95) if I plug my touch pro into my pc and it has charged, will it then run purely off external power?
On my n95 it would charge, use a tiny bit of power on the battery and very shortly charge again. Obviously if my battery dipped again by a whole bar id want it to kick in the charger but that was crazy.
I'd like to leave my touch pro plugged in a lot for activesynch etc and charge at the same time so it would be nice to know if it's going to kill my battery.
I find that when the battery is charged the USB power will stop charging it. I charge overnight with my PC off on USB and come back and the full charged status is on.
Your PC should be able to provide 500mA through the port if the Touch Pro requests it, however the standalone charger is rated at 1A (1000mA) so if you are worried about using your device while charging then perhaps use it with the external charger.
I see no reason why your battery wouldnt be charged adequatly by the USB port though, generally you would be using less than your are getting from the usb port.

erm... where did you hear that?

maybe you mix it with the car ignition eating too much gas if you do it a lot?
Well, it used to be that way with the old NiCd batteries. Nowadays it's not an issue anymore.
My apologies, whilst lithium ion's don't have memory they do still lose overall power by each charge and discharge, even if it's not a complete one.

battery is as new and i charged it whenever i wanted.
same situation with my HTC Artemis, i bought it since the first day it went on sale and battery is as new!

This issue has come up so many times ..... i post again a link to a website with details on how to maximise a li-ion batterry. It clearly states that it prefers small discharges, with full discharges in every 30 charge cycles.

Hi everyone,
My first post as I haven't been able to find an answer. My Photon Q was probably about 30% charge when I last checked with it on. An hour or 2 later it was a little warm and was off. So I went to charge it using the car charger with 500mah charge rate. I came back about an hour later and the phone was really hot and no charging screen so I unplugged it. The green led light is lit when the phone is plugged in.
I tried holding the power button and volume down button, but it won't boot. If I have the usb charging cable plugged in from a PC or charger adapter when pressing those buttons, the green light will flicker off for a fraction of a second.
I then proceeded to dismantling the phone as I suspect a battery issue and the one in this phone is stupidly non-removable. After taking the back cover off, I tested the battery posts and received 0 volts. I still don't know if the battery caused the drain or if there's a short in the phone. I then took off the inside cover that holds the battery in. A few T5 screws later and the battery was removed. I connected the battery to some AA batteries in series to see if I could get a charge. A few hours later I got it up to 3 volts which held for several hours. So I connected it to a few more AA batteries in series to try and raise the voltage. I got it up to 3.67 volts and the battery is listed at 3.7 volts.
A day later and the voltage is still at 3.67 volts so I put the battery in the phone. I went to try and power it on, but nothing. I then connected it to a usb cord and received the slow flashing red led light a couple times before switching to green. The battery started getting warm again connected to the usb charger. After 20 minutes it was approaching hot so I unplugged the USB. The battery read 3.54 volts. 30 minutes later, 0 volts again.
Does anyone know what the actual voltage range is for this phone, as my old Samsung M320 is also 3.7 volts, but when testing the battery I get 4.10 volts? I heard it's pretty specific on minimum voltage. Any ideas for a temporary battery or way to boot the phone before spending $50 on a replacement battery and then find out there's a short in the phone. Is there another key combination to boot the phone, I'm trying to boot it to at least get my pictures and other data off it.

Not the battery, seems to be an electrical short but where
I bought a new battery for the phone which had a 0 volt charge when I received it. I tried putting it in the phone as is to use the phone charger to charge it, but got nothing. So I charged it using 2, then 3 and then 4 AA batteries in series to get it up to 3.7 volts. I then put the battery in the phone and noticed the 2 large chips and the chip centered above them located by the camera get a little hot. I tried with the charger connected and not connected, but same thing. Power button doesn't turn the phone on. Just the green led lit when the USB power cable is attached. So now it seems there must be a short in the phone. Anyone know where I can look to check for a short, blown resistor or something in this phone? Or at least where the rom chip is located so maybe I can turn it into a usb drive to get my data at the least.
Anyone? I still haven't been able to find a solution. I don't see pins touching, but if some pins are touching in the usb port, would that cause the heat issues when I put a battery in that I charged externally? I do get the green led light when I plug the phone in to charge so figure that means the usb is ok?

did you try a other charger ? do you have oryginal photon charger ? for me its not a reason of battery

Yep used the motorola cable that came with the phone (plugged in the wall and just the cable in multiple computers, another motorola house charger (the same as the one that came with the phone), a motorola car charger, and a samsung house charger.
When you say motorola usb service cable, I assume you're not talking about the motorola cable that comes with the phone? What usb service cable are you referring to?

if you buy / make this cable , you will be have posibility to use RDS lite and flesh firmware this also make help (if you have low battery flesh with normal usb cable is not possible )
and second thing... maybe try some car charger ?
Hello! I need a little help finding an app or a tweak if any exists.
I have samsung galaxy tab(GT-P3110), the charging port is totally destroyed, so now the only way to charge the battery is to directly charge it. I opened the back of the device and extended two wires (+) and (-) from the battery socket and then put back the cover. So now I charge the device by connecting those two wires sticking out of the device with the stripped end of a usb cable.
I know this way of charging is damaging the battery or inappropriate, but atleast i'm able to use the device than just uselessly throwing it away.
When i use the device, there is no real way to say how much charge is remaining. Even if the device is charging, the device shows that the charge is decreasing like as if it wasn't charging but it is. and once i reboot, it shows the real increased charge %.
So i wanna know, is there anything i can do to get real battery stats while the tablet is still on?
