[Q] Phone stuck in headset mode - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This question does not enter the topic of CM12 or in the stock rom, as the problem appears in both
hello guys,
My phone is permanently in headset mode. I did everything I could to factory resets, even putting in a new rom (I'm using CM12), but without success. I have to take all calls in speakerphone mode.
some apps give a temporary help as the "HF Button (KK)" and the "Soundabout (L)". Force the audio to switch between the headset and the speaker.
How to fix this problem? is a bug?
all help is welcome. thanks

Have you tried to clean the 3.5mm port?
I remember one phone that I had to completely tear down in order to remove a small plastic sphere that somehow got inside it

Raphael USB PORT Fried by broken Headset: Weird Behavoir. Be Careful

So my raphael is screwed.
1. I cannot hear anyone on a call without the headset. They can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I can get volume thru the speaker in any other application for the most part except phone calls.
2. I can hear them with the headset, but it's wonky and tends to dial other numbers and even stranger behaviors with the broken headset that I believe may have damaged it.
3. The phone is stuck in landscape mode and constantly engaging the TV-out mode. (Tv-out mode splash screen comes up intermittently
4. It doesn't actually output video anymore via the video cable - only audio. Video is a black screen. Call audio will play on TV, but microphone still not engaged.
5. Will not remain steadily connected to computer via USB.
6. It *does* accept a charge from USB, Car Charger and Standard AC charger.
Sometimes - for brief peroids - it does work. I have done soft and hard resets and removed the battery, wiped it clean- etc to no avail.
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it? It seems to me to be something wrong with the USB port pins - or something worse.
I have an unlocked international one that I run on T-mobile (which doesn't carry the Raphael). This girl I am dating stepped on one of the headset buds and destroyed it which - I could be wrong, messed up the USB port?
i repair phone. seem like alot more damge to it, check for liquid damage
It does sound like a lot of damage, but it's never gotten wet at all.
Go to service shop.
Try to hard reset and see if that fixes it! might be a corrupted registry or software.
Well my answer is;
date another Girl.. well i just had to say that out of my mind and sorry for that okey back to seriousity...
try taking a hardreset as RebelShadow said and if that doesn't cure your phone you should go to a rapir center.. well do you have warrenty? that might help in situations like that..
It sounds to me like you have a broken contact on the USB. To make a TV adapter from the usb adapter - you have to break one of the pins. Your symptoms seem to be the equivalent of that - with regards to sound going out and not back, and the TV screen popping up.
I believe either the headset has a broken pin - or the contact on the usb port was broken. I might have missed it, but have you tested any other headsets with the TP?
Yes.. That's what the problem sounds like you nailed it P0ll0L0c0 - I think personally from observation that the damage is on the USB port on the phone itself.
Hard reset doesn't do it, and sometimes it comes back to normal briefly, but still unsure how that happens (from putting a cable in and it pushes the USB broken contact to the right place temporarily?)
Should I send it to repair? Or attempt to repair it myself?

One way or another, I'd send it back. If you have insurance, or are within 30 days - it should be easy. Good luck.
I am in New York.
Anyone have some suggestions where I should take it or send it to get repaired?

Car Mode turn on

hi people.. A few days ago my inspire switched to car mode all by it self, and since then it happens every day, even though i have tried to turn it of when the notification apears, also this problem has made it that way that every time i make ar recive a call it switches to speaker imidietly all by it self,,what should i do?
Please help somebody
Just freeze it in titanium backup and unfreeze when you need it. When you have time, reinstall the rom.
Same happens with me.. so i removed dock mode from system/app/ & locations from root uninstaller..
now i have speakerphone always on whenever i get call.... what to do for that??
My fiancee's inspire was having the same problems as this and all that it was was a faulty micro usb connection...also try to clean the contacts inside the charging port with a small brush, if you still don't have any luck after that just let me know!

Speaker always on even after I froze Car Panel
Hi, same problem here, car panel started popping up randomly + speaker always on when I receive or make a call after I flashed the New ATT stock rooted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810461), froze the app which resolved the car panel problem, but my speaker is still on, anyone would know of any patch that could fix this please?
Thanks

I had this issue as well. I cleaned out the Micro USB port the best I could and couldn't seem to stop it from happening unless I unrooted and switched back to the stock ROM (I'm guessing this was only because the stock ROM doesn't have the option for a dock and thus the event is ignored) via the AAHK. My solution was to pay the five dollars for NoDock (link to the trial version) which stops Car Dock from launching and stops the speaker from turning on the calls. You could try looking at other options as well, I just wanted a fix so I paid for it.

Keeps going into car mode...

My M8 for the past week has been entering car mode for no apparent reason. Could it be there is something wrong with the USB port on the phone or something else?
It's the charger/cable you're using. My M8 does it as well with a cable (that's a power-only cable, no data pins) I use to charge my phone from my PC with. I've had 4 replacement M8s (all for separate hardware issues) and they all did the same thing on the same cable. It hasn't done it with any of the other several chargers I use at home. But when it does to it on that one cable, it only seems to do it when I try to use any demanding apps/games while plugged in. It won't do it if I'm just poking around the launcher or browser.
Mine is happening when not plugged in also.

Ahh, well then yeah, I would have to say there's definitely some hardware issue with your USB port then.
Yup, my phone is screwed its stuck in car mode, tried everything. Is there a way to edit a system file to completely disable it? Replacing phone is not an option for me.

I've tried disabling/freezing anything with the word "car" in it in Titanium Backup to no avail on my M8, it still does it with that same cable. When it does it and the "Car Mode Enabled" notification shows up in the notification shade, I can long-press it and go to app info, where it takes me to "Android System", so it appears to have hooks deep into the Android OS and something you can't really disable. This Xposed module may have some options to disable it or at least keep it from being so invasive if you're rooted.
But I guarantee you that you can get the phone replaced under warranty, even if you have it S-Off'd/unlocked, because I have done it. Unless your phone is physically damaged..? But even then, they may not charge to repair the USB port or motherboard if that's the only issue. Can't hurt to ask HTC.
I seem to have "fixed" it by plugging it in about 20-30 times and violently yanking out the cable... Not sure how long this fix will last since looking into the port I seen nothing wrong with any of the pins or any contaminants in there, also high pressure air didn't work.

I had exact same issue. It is debris stuck in the port. Get some computer duster or air compressor and it will clear it up
Nice
Hey you guys need to go to app manager then swipe to (all) under that you should disable dock mode and car mode then reboot. Should fix problem for live. Some magnets and other objects will toy with the sensors in your phone expecially the ones by the USB connector
I've been having this problem too. The Car app and Daydream would randomly open and close. I've just performed a hard reset and it appears to have fixed the problem.
----------UPDATE 3 DAYS LATER.....
So a hard reset has not fixed this. The car app did not open for a couple of days but I have had the loud speaker turning on every time I answer a call. I've just used my earphones with the phone for the first time since I performed the hard reset and now the car app is opening again. I've tried to clean out the 3.5mm socket but its not making a difference. It seems strange that the hard reset did kind of fix it until the earphone socket was used. Now I really don't know if it's a hardware or software issue!
I had the same issue with my M8 unlocked version. Also had the problem where the speakerphone would go on and off during calls and some other issues but now since updating to the newest HTC build with Android 5.0 I haven't noticed anything.
Could it be that HTC were aware of these issues and have now fixed them?
Have any of you had progress with the new update or are the issues still apparent?
Will update later when I have had more time to test the new software out but as of now it looks like its fixed.
Mine just started doing this tonight too.. no matter what kind of cable gets plugged in to it, it goes into car/ docked mode and turns my wifi on, and rotates all around when I don't want it to. It's VERY annoying. I tried doing a factory reset on it and it's still doing it when I plug a charger in. It also is doing it just randomly when no cable is plugged in.
I'm wondering if a lot of people are having this issue recently, if it was something in one of the recent updates to the HTC service pack sent out by HTC via the Play Store. Anyone know???
Well, so much for that update...
After almost exactly a week without any problems it started acting up again this morning. In and out of carnode. Guess I'll just make use of my warranty and send it in for service.
yep.. me too. Did a reset and was working fine for about a week and just started doing it again today. WTF.
This was happening to me back in the fall. IIRC, my fix was to clean out the charging port. Look for how-to on web. I think the problem is some crossed pins with dirt making the phone think it's plugged in to dock.

My phone just started doing this on the 5th.
It also rotates when it's not supposed to? It is so annoying and idk what to do. Is this a. HTC issue or what?

I had my phone sent in for service and it turned out to be a faulty speaker. They swapped it and I haven't encountered any of the problems I had prior to sending it in.
How the speaker was interfering with the operating system I have no idea, my best guess it was shorting out something but it's just a theory.
phone keeps entering car mode
I have had this issue and completely fixed it, on your phone find car mode, scroll down to a hidden settings menu, in settings disable auto dock mode, auto connect, in fact disable everything, then exit car mode using the exit button. Restart your phone and hopefully it never enters car mode again and charges normally.
I had this issue for months and bought a new phone that I didn't like so came back to the HTC and eventually fixed it.
This is the flex USB cable. They go bad and cause car mode / dock mode like this. The cable itself is $14 and you likely will be replacing the sticker speaker grills which are $11. I have personally repaired this and it is the only permanent fix. Not disabling an app. Not removing an app. This failure is due to hardware and hardware only.
BTW.... way to dig up an old thread lol.

I have this issue since three days and it's driving me mad.
Tried all the suggested solutions and nothing worked so far.
I've ordered a new USB flex cable with charge dock pcb. I'll be sure to post my experiences with that, hope it fixes this annoying issue as Dottar suggested

Nexus 5 Screen Blackout

Hi,
My phone was working well, I had no issues of any kind. Today, I just pick it up and the screens turns on but it's all black, but I can tell the phone was actually on because the LED was blinking, showing I had unseen notifications.
I can't access bootloader mode nor recovery mode either, since the same thing happened. I tried restoring a factory image via Fastboot, but it also didn't work.
Should I take the phone to a service or is there any solution for this?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, i was searching for a solution for the same problem and i found your post. did you have found a solution perhaps? it seems to be a software related problem for me... i still trying to figure out what the problem is.
Was the phone ever dropped or knocked about? Possible loose internal connection?

You were right! it seems that when i push the back cover in the point where internally the mic flex cable is attached i can replicate the problem. i ordered a spare part...will see if the replacement of this cable will fix the problem. btw definetely not a software problem.

Samsung Note 3 no longer has any sound functionality.

No longer getting any sound or microphone working with Samsung Note 3.
My phone had a weird booting issue where the screen would just flash white etc this used to happen occasionally but the phone would restart and be ok. This time is was longer. I eventually got it started however I no longer have any sound from ear speaker or loud speaker nor does the microphone work. Some apps when attempting to play sounds either freeze, crash or throw errors.
I have was using lineageOS 15.1 however, I tried flashing back to stock with no luck.
and then back to lineage again for no effect.
I opened the phone up and checked all the ribbon cable connections. I had previously replaced the usb port board but that was a year ago.
I tried an app to switch between headphone and speaker incase it was stuck in speaker mode but nothing there as well.
The app has a diagnostic mode and I see this..

I also completely disconnected the headphone jack and ear speaker and booted and the phone behaved the same way.
Any assistance or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. However... It may be time..

You obviously have hardware failure, replace the hardware, but, honestly, Note 3 is actually not worth repairing. You could buy a newer used device with the money it would cost to replace the hardware in the Note 3 instead.
