Raphael USB PORT Fried by broken Headset: Weird Behavoir. Be Careful - Touch Pro, Fuze General

So my raphael is screwed.
1. I cannot hear anyone on a call without the headset. They can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I can get volume thru the speaker in any other application for the most part except phone calls.
2. I can hear them with the headset, but it's wonky and tends to dial other numbers and even stranger behaviors with the broken headset that I believe may have damaged it.
3. The phone is stuck in landscape mode and constantly engaging the TV-out mode. (Tv-out mode splash screen comes up intermittently
4. It doesn't actually output video anymore via the video cable - only audio. Video is a black screen. Call audio will play on TV, but microphone still not engaged.
5. Will not remain steadily connected to computer via USB.
6. It *does* accept a charge from USB, Car Charger and Standard AC charger.
Sometimes - for brief peroids - it does work. I have done soft and hard resets and removed the battery, wiped it clean- etc to no avail.
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it? It seems to me to be something wrong with the USB port pins - or something worse.
I have an unlocked international one that I run on T-mobile (which doesn't carry the Raphael). This girl I am dating stepped on one of the headset buds and destroyed it which - I could be wrong, messed up the USB port?

i repair phone. seem like alot more damge to it, check for liquid damage

It does sound like a lot of damage, but it's never gotten wet at all.

Go to service shop.

Try to hard reset and see if that fixes it! might be a corrupted registry or software.

Well my answer is;
date another Girl.. well i just had to say that out of my mind and sorry for that okey back to seriousity...
try taking a hardreset as RebelShadow said and if that doesn't cure your phone you should go to a rapir center.. well do you have warrenty? that might help in situations like that..

It sounds to me like you have a broken contact on the USB. To make a TV adapter from the usb adapter - you have to break one of the pins. Your symptoms seem to be the equivalent of that - with regards to sound going out and not back, and the TV screen popping up.
I believe either the headset has a broken pin - or the contact on the usb port was broken. I might have missed it, but have you tested any other headsets with the TP?

Yes.. That's what the problem sounds like you nailed it P0ll0L0c0 - I think personally from observation that the damage is on the USB port on the phone itself.
Hard reset doesn't do it, and sometimes it comes back to normal briefly, but still unsure how that happens (from putting a cable in and it pushes the USB broken contact to the right place temporarily?)
Should I send it to repair? Or attempt to repair it myself?

One way or another, I'd send it back. If you have insurance, or are within 30 days - it should be easy. Good luck.

I am in New York.
Anyone have some suggestions where I should take it or send it to get repaired?

Universal plunges from a 3 story building... will it survive? place your bets now.

I had to jump over some stupid fence today at my work (didn't want to go all the way around), so i asked my friend to hold my universal while i jumped.
maybe i should have held it myself, because the universal slipped from her hands, and fell down the 3 story building, hitting many many stairs on the way down.
from a first glance i thought its the end of my beautiful relationship with my uni.
but actually after opening it up and checking its insides - it looks pretty okay! nothing seems to be broken or loose...
the problem is: is won't even start. so im trying to discover where malfunction is.
i've tried:
Switching batteries
Plugging it in to a power source (computer / wall)
Dismantling body and screen, tightening all of the connectors
Bootloader mode - not showing anything
Connecting with MTTY - but i can't even get it to connect
Turned on, waited for 5 mins and called it to see if it'll ring (to eliminate screen problems) - forwards to voicemail
Nothing worked, the screen is always blank.
when i plug in a power source, a red light flashes REALLY quickly, and then goes off, after that nothing happens.
the only thing that gave me a clue its still alive somewhere inside - when i plugged it to my computer, windows alerted me i plugged in an unknown device, even when i tried to put it in BL and connect again.
Does anyone have a clue what i can do next to find where the problem lies, and bring my love back to life???
please, i need help on this.
Mine fell a few feet from my hand to the (concrete) floor and was the same - no signs of trauma but completely dead, aside from a light when connected to the charger.
I think the damage will be to the mainboard, so it's a either a case of getting a new board and fitting it, or buying another universal and selling the dead one for parts. I opted for the latter.
My Condolences!! as long you can not find some lose cable or what so ever I believe you will not able to bring your "love" back to alive.
After connecting to your Computer RED light and Your computer doesn't recognize the Device indicates major issue.
Unless you have someone that can work with JTAG. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309291
hehe, thanx for your replies.
i don't know anyone who deals with jtag, but maybe it'll be a good idea to look for a private repair lab which works with jtag.
i guess for a small amount of money they could help me find the problematic part.
i wanted to avoid sending it over to a some random repair lab, because they might turn out as just some amatures and tell me that the whole main board needs to be replaced, instead of a specific part...
so i'll start with some searching
anyone else have any more suggestions?
mine fell from my pocket and red led pops up only when connected to the charger.. i sent it to ppctechs.. they put it under the infrared oven and nothing happened, so its not lose solder nor connectors nor nothing.. its the mainboard, its hard for it to be replaced as far as component level goes.. but who knows.. personally i think just sell it for parts.. sorry, thats what i did and boutght a new one off ebay for 400
good luck and sorry to hear that..
Am I allowed to cry on this forum ????

HTC Fuze, Black/Blank Screen. Everything Else works, just can't see it.

Firstly, my screen does not show visuals. I can still touch the screen and make things happen, but it is just a back-lighted black screen. I have answered calls on it and such. Basically I'm returning it and getting a new one.
Since I am getting a new one, I want to see if anyone ever heard of this problem and to see what the cause of it is, for prevention purposes.
I didn't get it wet (the white sticker in the back is still white.) Though I have flashed PROven ROM to it a couple months ago (it's a great ROM by the way), but could that have messed up my screen?
I also wanted to know since I can't see the screen, would I have to, for warranty purposes, (blindly) reflash to the Stock ROM?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah, you probably oughta return it to stock configuration (good luck on that!). If you're really lucky, that might even fix the problem. Have you done a hard reset yet? Might be worth a try, although it certainly sounds like a hardware problem.
Sounds like the flex cable has gone bad
Exactly same thing happened to me this Tuesday. Luckly I backed up info to memory card using PimBackupV2.8 with remote control software on my PC. With the remote contol tool, I could see everything as if on my phone and icons are clickable.
Hard reset did not fix the issue. I then flashed the shipped official ROM and stock SPL for warranty purpose. Will send the phone to them today for repair.
mine also like that..

The back of my phone often gets hot I have to use the edges to hold it even though it was not a hot day and it is in my pocket.

ya so my screen is blank white
but everything else works
i've heard something about this being a faulty "flex cable"
how can i fix this?
thanks so much for your help
how do i fix this???
did you eventually find out how to fix this/???
u ever end up fixing that? how?
thankss
Mine was still in warranty so I rang Vodafone. They sent me a special delivery envelop the following day. I sent it back to them. The following day I got a text message from them saying they got it and was working on it to fix the fault. The next day received another message saying the device was on the way back to me and I should receive it the following day.
Actually they sent me back a replacement
So.. basically.. is this a faulty flex thing?
I had the same problem for the last week until today i was about to buy another one since i dont have any warranty for this one.. I searched google and saw somebody say that just putting a business card between the keyboard and the lcd and then slide it and it works so far
hope it helps everybody
Ack! my Fuze, which I got off eBay a few months back, just went black too.
I'm not exactly sure whether it's the LCD or the flex cable, but the fact that the D-pad backlight also has become intermittent makes me think it's the cable.
So has anyone attempted the flex cable repair themselves? I see you can buy the cable for around $40 and the LCD for around $80 from Hong Kong.
Maybe this is a sign I should just get an Android device.

same thing happened to me Twice.... in my sleep overnight. I LOOOOOOOOVe my raphael but man this was the last straw
This maybe of some help for those of you with blank screens. I bought a Touch Pro on ebay that had a very dark screen, occasionally you could just make out some icons being displayed. Using Mymobiler showed that the basic system was working, as was the touchscreen. Other symptoms were that the camera would not work and the keypad lighting was intermittent. Sometimes on connection to Mymobiler a dialog box would come up saying there was an error with Microp?!?
Despite cleaning all internal connections and ensuring they were correctly and securely made the problem remained. I then noticed that the small camera used for video calls (in a socket on the main flex cable) looked very dirty and corroded. I removed the camera module and, using a fibreglass brush, cleaned the contacts on both the socket and the camera module. These were very badly corroded with verdigris.
On putting everything back together I was most surprised to find the screen was now working, as was the main camera. Unfortunately the ROM that is loaded doesn't seem to have any facility for checking the front video camera. There are still problems with sound - both the loudspeaker and the headphones seem to be dead and I have not had the opportunity to test GPS, Wifi, bluetooth, buttons, etc, however I will keep working on it.
Hope this is of help to someone.

The battery is fine. I had one more Tornado device the same happened with it stopped working the same way i replaced its battery but it didn't worked.
Oops - I hope there is no sudden death disease for the Tornado?! The only part that is usually mechanically stressed is the USB socket. If you dare to disassemble the device and you get through until you have the PBA in your hand, then you may check for the soldering around the USB. It is a plain normal mini-USB with only 5 connections, so re-soldering is not that difficult for a skilled person. It is worth a try - as it seems dead anyway.
Take care about the keyboard connector - of all the Tornado patients I had on my table most had their keyboard flex cable ripped - this cannot be repaired and you need a new keyboard PBA.

The USB looks fine, but i'll get it re-soldered from the market tomorrow. I hope it works Thanks for your help tobbie =)
That's strange - if it looks ok there. Maybe the battery connectors then? Usually these are not much stressed - so I have no other idea. Good luck!

@tobbbie
Hey, i checked the other Tornado device i have, i think its got the problem you mention that USB one, if i exchange the usb port of one device onto other will it work?
this one can go itno the bootloader screen too, and if i switch it on the T-mobile screen comes and it keeps restarting.
Re-soldering works if the contacts are gone off the PBA. This could be any of the USB contacts (+,-, data-wires - in total 5 connections + metal frame of USB) with different effects (not charging, not syncing). Restart should not be an effect - do a hard reset on that device (l+r softkey method when switching on). If that does not help, then flash a new OS only. Do not deal with flashing the bootloaders (i.e. a standard flash image) - if you mess anything there (because of USB problems) - the device will be dead.
Taking another USB should not be necessary. This can hardly break and removing it from both PBA may ruin the PBA and the USB socket - so permanently killing both.

hmm that means i need to get the USB repaired and flash a new OS.
i've got soldered a new USB onto the PBA from the market not the problem is that The phone restarts after the first bootscreen. and if i connect it with the pc for flashing the terterm pro doest detects it. And if i try the hard reset the reset screen comes but turns off automatically. Now what to do =(
Seems like you need to bury that device - or keep it for spare parts :-(

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 - Multiple Problems

I am using Samsung Galaxy S2 unrooted (bought in India). The phone behaved properly for 2 weeks and then started giving these issues.
1. Switching Off does not really switch-off the phone. A battery symbol comes similar to the one that comes if you are charging once the phone is switched-off. However, there is also an exclamation mark (more like a thermometer) which blinks. There is no charger or USB connected.
From the above state, you cannot switch - off / on the phone unless you plug in the power adapter / USB.
2. I have noticed that while that even when USB Charger is attached, the Battery Status (Menu-> Settings-> About Phone->Status) shows "Charging(AC)".
3. A related problem to the above may be the fact that "Samsung Kies" does not start when you plug in the USB cable with the computer. The phone does not even connect to the computer via USB mode (allowing USB debugging). I have re-installed Kies / USB connectivity drivers for my PC (Win XP) a couple of times and see no change in the behaviour.
4. When charging is removed, the battery health using Z-Device Test (3rd party software) shows "Over Voltage".
I am not sure if anybody else has seen similar problems. Appreciate any help.
I have exactly the same problem. I will go with my SGS2 at the warranty this week.
Me too having same problem... Guyzzz please help us...
please do reply..
Please give some solution to the problem..
Same freaking problem here...
the battery doesnt even charge full.. it goes up to 70% and shows its completely charged..
then it drains fast too..
someone please find a hardware or software DIY fix for it...
Same problem here... I can't believe this is happening after less than a month of buying it.
I've been reading through different forums and some people got it fixed by cleaning the usb port:
go to androidforums and paste this in the URL.
samsung-galaxy-s2-international/377331-spurious-battery-temperature-warning-2.html
xdadevelopers won't let me post url's since I'm still too much of a n00b.
Here is a quote from the forum if the link does not work:
Anybody still having difficulties with this and finding this thread, go down the clean-it-yourself route. Worked for me. You will need: some isopropyl alcohol (disk cleaner), wooden toothpicks, some compressed air.
First things, remove the battery, sd and sim card.
Soak the tips of a couple of toothpicks in the isopropyl. then use them to carefully scrape the top 'tongue' in the port, the bit nearest the screen. you'll notice the toothpick gets quite dirty. Do this a few times with fresh toothpicks (or cut ff the dirty bit with sharp scissors).
Once the toothpicks aren't getting dirty any more, gently ease the tongue up, towards the screen a little, don't force it too much.
Use the compressed air to give it a good blow and leave it to dry for a while.
Its solved my problems, Battery Monitor Widget recognises that the usb is unplugged properly and no more warning triangles or poor battery performance. The phone, also gained an extra 20% of battery out of it.

I hope this helps someone else, mine is still not working.
Update:
I've been constantly cleaning the USB port very carefully. Behavior has changed in several ways. The port is still acting crazy, sometimes if I turn it off, the phone will boot up by itself, BUT...
I had it recognized by my laptop a couple of minutes ago and able to move files from and into it. Just as if everything was fine.
It came down again because of the crazy behavior of the port.
I would undoubtedly say that this is a hardware issue. I'll go buy some pressured air today to blow the port and make sure it's clean and dry.
Had the exact same issue
In Addition to battery drain, unexpected MTP app pop apps with USB connecting sound (that could go on and on for minutes). and not being able to connect USB mass storage (PC complains on device malfunction...)
After reading quite a lot forums I found out that this is a well known issue (at least for the users). I called samsung they didn't want to take any liability for the issue, and even worse they said my device is non-US device, thus I can't get support even if I wanted to pay for it.
I figured it is a HW issue, and did a little study on what replacement part are being sold on the market, short analysis showed display (well that is true for most devices, cause we tend to break them, ain't we?) and USB PCB. the latest matched my suspicion on USB HW defect. I bought the PCB for 7$ replaced it and tadam: that fixed my phone.
Samsung should check themselves, people pay 600$ for the device, if there is a manufacturing issue, they should recall and fix, just like big companies do, just like Intel did with Pentium and just like Toyota did with braking systems. nevertheless they should find an arrangement to give their customers service anytime everywhere! or better make their products not requiring service
and the problem is...
i have the exact same issue, and when i contacted samsung about it not only they did not took any liability on this matter, but they said that the warranty was voided because they found sodium residue on the usb port at the bottom of the phone, and for those of you who do no know sodium = salt = sweat, so according to samsung i voided the warranty on my gs2 because my hands sweat. not only is this complete nonsense because it is an exposed micro usb port but because this will be in contact with sweaty hands when you are holding the phone in landscape mode, so after i did some research about this problem i found that the issue is not only that the usb port is exposed but that the usb flexor and the port that it connects to are very lo quality cooper(which should be gold plated) and can very easily have corrosion problems, so the solution is to clean the usb port if detected early, but if you have been having the issue for a long time like me you need to change the usb port, flexor and the port that the flexor connects aka "the usb chip", as well as the battery since having over voltage on a battery for an extended period of time can ruin it.

Keeps going into car mode...

My M8 for the past week has been entering car mode for no apparent reason. Could it be there is something wrong with the USB port on the phone or something else?
It's the charger/cable you're using. My M8 does it as well with a cable (that's a power-only cable, no data pins) I use to charge my phone from my PC with. I've had 4 replacement M8s (all for separate hardware issues) and they all did the same thing on the same cable. It hasn't done it with any of the other several chargers I use at home. But when it does to it on that one cable, it only seems to do it when I try to use any demanding apps/games while plugged in. It won't do it if I'm just poking around the launcher or browser.
Mine is happening when not plugged in also.

Ahh, well then yeah, I would have to say there's definitely some hardware issue with your USB port then.
Yup, my phone is screwed its stuck in car mode, tried everything. Is there a way to edit a system file to completely disable it? Replacing phone is not an option for me.

I've tried disabling/freezing anything with the word "car" in it in Titanium Backup to no avail on my M8, it still does it with that same cable. When it does it and the "Car Mode Enabled" notification shows up in the notification shade, I can long-press it and go to app info, where it takes me to "Android System", so it appears to have hooks deep into the Android OS and something you can't really disable. This Xposed module may have some options to disable it or at least keep it from being so invasive if you're rooted.
But I guarantee you that you can get the phone replaced under warranty, even if you have it S-Off'd/unlocked, because I have done it. Unless your phone is physically damaged..? But even then, they may not charge to repair the USB port or motherboard if that's the only issue. Can't hurt to ask HTC.
I seem to have "fixed" it by plugging it in about 20-30 times and violently yanking out the cable... Not sure how long this fix will last since looking into the port I seen nothing wrong with any of the pins or any contaminants in there, also high pressure air didn't work.

Hey you guys need to go to app manager then swipe to (all) under that you should disable dock mode and car mode then reboot. Should fix problem for live. Some magnets and other objects will toy with the sensors in your phone expecially the ones by the USB connector
I've been having this problem too. The Car app and Daydream would randomly open and close. I've just performed a hard reset and it appears to have fixed the problem.
----------UPDATE 3 DAYS LATER.....
So a hard reset has not fixed this. The car app did not open for a couple of days but I have had the loud speaker turning on every time I answer a call. I've just used my earphones with the phone for the first time since I performed the hard reset and now the car app is opening again. I've tried to clean out the 3.5mm socket but its not making a difference. It seems strange that the hard reset did kind of fix it until the earphone socket was used. Now I really don't know if it's a hardware or software issue!
I had the same issue with my M8 unlocked version. Also had the problem where the speakerphone would go on and off during calls and some other issues but now since updating to the newest HTC build with Android 5.0 I haven't noticed anything.
Could it be that HTC were aware of these issues and have now fixed them?
Have any of you had progress with the new update or are the issues still apparent?
Will update later when I have had more time to test the new software out but as of now it looks like its fixed.
Mine just started doing this tonight too.. no matter what kind of cable gets plugged in to it, it goes into car/ docked mode and turns my wifi on, and rotates all around when I don't want it to. It's VERY annoying. I tried doing a factory reset on it and it's still doing it when I plug a charger in. It also is doing it just randomly when no cable is plugged in.
I'm wondering if a lot of people are having this issue recently, if it was something in one of the recent updates to the HTC service pack sent out by HTC via the Play Store. Anyone know???
Well, so much for that update...
After almost exactly a week without any problems it started acting up again this morning. In and out of carnode. Guess I'll just make use of my warranty and send it in for service.
yep.. me too. Did a reset and was working fine for about a week and just started doing it again today. WTF.
This was happening to me back in the fall. IIRC, my fix was to clean out the charging port. Look for how-to on web. I think the problem is some crossed pins with dirt making the phone think it's plugged in to dock.

I had my phone sent in for service and it turned out to be a faulty speaker. They swapped it and I haven't encountered any of the problems I had prior to sending it in.
How the speaker was interfering with the operating system I have no idea, my best guess it was shorting out something but it's just a theory.
phone keeps entering car mode
I have had this issue and completely fixed it, on your phone find car mode, scroll down to a hidden settings menu, in settings disable auto dock mode, auto connect, in fact disable everything, then exit car mode using the exit button. Restart your phone and hopefully it never enters car mode again and charges normally.
I had this issue for months and bought a new phone that I didn't like so came back to the HTC and eventually fixed it.
This is the flex USB cable. They go bad and cause car mode / dock mode like this. The cable itself is $14 and you likely will be replacing the sticker speaker grills which are $11. I have personally repaired this and it is the only permanent fix. Not disabling an app. Not removing an app. This failure is due to hardware and hardware only.
BTW.... way to dig up an old thread lol.

I've ordered a new USB flex cable with charge dock pcb. I'll be sure to post my experiences with that, hope it fixes this annoying issue as Dottar suggested
