One huge problem here is that every time I fail to install, I get prompted to download the update again. It makes it VERY SLOW to do trial and error. Every time I accept the update it then boots into TWRP and I don't know what to do to install the update.
Please advise.
You can sideload the 5.1 update, more info here on sideloading http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217
You need to be totally stock to be able to update via OTA if I am not mistaken, meaning no root, no custom ROM, not custom recovery, your best bet now is to flash the OTA zip for 5.1

I've been trying to update my rooted Nexus 5 for a while now with the actual over the air updates and I just noticed they're not actually applying. So I started to update manually but it wouldn't let me because of changes made in the system after installing mods. So I uninstalled all the mods I used and the update proceeds further but it still fails and now tells me that there's an error with androidpolicy.jar. Can anyone provide a flash able zip for this so I can finally update to 4.4.2?
Please and thank you.

Hello,
I have a Nexus 5 with root, stock rom, Franco Kernel and the custom recovery is TWRP. I accomplished this by following a guide around this forum, I know very little about Android. The Android version i'm running is the 4.4.2 and the phone keeps asking me to update do the newer version, however, when I try to do it, it takes me to the TWRP menu, and when I try to install it there, I get this error:
"/system/bin/thermal-engine-hh" has unexpected contents
E: Error executing updater binary in zip
Error flashing zip
How can I update the phone to the newer version of android? Can anyone help me? Thanks.
Start here, then still questions in that thread

First thing, turn off mobile data. Your phone may try re-download it over and over again and use up your mobile data plan.
To install the ota via the ota update on the stock rom you will need to return to stock recovery and maybe stock kernel (not sure about this one).
NOTE: Before trying the below steps as I haven't tested them myself, please backup your ROM first. Better safe than sorry.
You can try installing the OTA updates manually from TWRP. You can find the links in the post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/ref-nexus-5-stock-ota-urls-t2475327.
If you are running 4.4.2 KRT16M you will need to download three updates.
1. KTU84M from KOT49H (4.4.2 update to 4.4.3)
2.KTU84P from KTU84M (4.4.3 update to 4.4.4)
Download them together and also put on a flashable zip of TWRP in the same location as it looks like it will reinstall the stock recovery.
You can even put on one of Franco kernel just in case too.
In TWRP select install zip and install number 1 first, then install 2. and finally install TWRP again. You should be updated to 4.4.4.
You can then install Franco kernel again just in case.
I hope this makes it easier.
EDIT: follow the link in the previous post as it has different scenarios and the steps needed.
Just download the full rooted stock ROM in android development and flash it without wipe from recovery.
It's actually fewer steps anyway.
OTA = revert system changes and/or kernel, reboot into recovery, flash the OTA , boot to bootloader, connect to pc, fastboot flash recovery, reboot into recovery, flash supersu.
Rooted stock = reboot into recovery, flash the ROM.
No brainer really. Flashing an OTA if rooted is a fool's errand.

fastboot 25R ota 30O ready ok, if i activate developer option at check ota the system says no update, i reset to factory at ota works again , since im om 33R and rooted using philz recovery, think this is very strange, i maybe not get the next 36R ota someone explain ?
Don't worry about it, just flash the OTA zip obtainable online after the OTA is pushed. Chances are the OTA just didn't get pushed to your phone, downloading the zip manually and flashing it is faster anyways.

no the ota is there when i check for update , just now i have root at install philz recovery at it still working , but when i activate the developer option i don't get the ota any more , so the problem is with the developer optione maybe som settings, when i try to turn off developer ota dont work, only thing that worked is to factory reset then ota worked again, strange, i will like to have ota working
Like I said before, don't worry about it. When the next OTA is available, a link will be posted online. Its the same file you will get if the OTA is pushed to your phone, just mirrored so you don't have to wait.
When that time comes, just download the zip and place it on your phone and flash it in Philz recovery. It will be faster than waiting for the next OTA to be pushed to your phone via notifications which can take days or even weeks.

I am rooted on locked bootloader. My tablet just downloaded the 5.0.1 update. Has anyone flashed this yet and kept root? Not sure where the download is stored on the file system in case of sideloading or flashing from CWM. Thanks.
Hi. Inside the update ZIP there are some hash checks of the system partition, so what is needed is rebuilding ota update ZIP, which I can't do atm.
didn't work for me
Im 5.0 rooted with unlocked bootloader, using CWM.
After downloading, it restarted to cwm and installation failed. Didn't take a picture or write down the details; making a second attempt now, will report back. Did not lose root during install attempt.
Mine is failing because CWM seems to be telling it I'm still on Android 4.4.2.
same here

Until someone rebuilds the update to remove the checks you will keep getting an error.
Ok. Here is what I did on my locked bootloader shield:
1. Download the full 5.0.1 US LTE zip and SuperSU 2.40.
2. Entered CWM, flashed 5.0.1, then SuperSU, wipe cache partition, and reboot. Done.
Nothing to it. Only thing now, how do I remove the OTA notice I keep getting to update? It seems that the incremental update had downloaded and now it keeps prompting me to flash even though I manually updated with the full version. Anyone know how to get around this? Thanks.
EDIT: I used the command 'pm disable com.nvidia.ota' and so far seems to have fixed it.

Do you have the wifi 16 us or the 32 LTE us?
Hi folks, so, I received OTA update for my Moto G (XT1032).
Phone was rooted (I did unroot from SuperSU). Also, I've re-installed Stock recovery (to make sure) and wiped cache/dalvik.
But, update still fails.
I don't have much root-related soft (like Xposed etc) installed - so pretty sure this should not cause an issue.
But still, update fails.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot/make it work? Maybe installing OTA somehow from recovery (custom one, TWRP)?
Any comments - much appreciated. I guess I'm not alone in this, but still...
Thanks

Have to install stock ROM again then update it via ota. Could also try flashing an ota update file via the official recovery of your phone.

Yep, my guess was the same. As per official recovery - I'll try adb sideload, but first time it couldn't find phone (all drivers installed and up-to-date).

Well, I might misunderstood, but:
I have official recovery (fastboot is mode of it, I guess, when U press Power+volume key?)
I've read about adb sideload zip_name_of_OTA.zip
I don't know any other way to install OTA apart from let phone handle it OR adb sideload.

Got this, screenshot in attachment.
Fingerprints are wrong. In build.prop - I can see it's fine, fingerprint of current 4.4.4. - matches expected.
But as soon as update starts - it says that 4.4.2 is fingerprint of my OS. Bollocks.
Edited OTA zip, edited some metadata file...
Why it won't install on pretty clean phone - I can't understand...Previous installs of OTA went fine with root etc.

Well the only thing I would recommend would be to install the stock system though fastboot manualy.

To anyone having issues:
1. Make sure you're on completely stock 4.4.4 (Refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688 and use only untouched 4.4.4 version for your phone if you have to reflash before continuing)
2. Make sure you're on stock recovery (Refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649763)
*Uninstall XPOSED if using it
3. I personally let update run on its own after reverting everything to stock.

But I guess, I can install Stock 5.* straight away after wiping? Why bother about OTA, if there is ROM available?

Yep.
The solution is backup data, restore stock last firmware using fastboot guide posted in this forum and not even update apps (cancel gmail registration and everything it asks when it first starts) ONLY update motorola update services so you can get the ota again an install it. If you have the ota downloaded you can flash it through recovery but using the last recovery version (.61) and of course last firmware version. If you guys flash it all through fastboot, it should install w/o any problems.
