I'm having something of an issue that I've never had with any previous phone. I can't flash a ROM -- any ROM. Everything I've tried results in an "Error 7." The only thing I can do is use ADB to revert back to stock. That works but everything else results in a fail. I also switched custom recoveries from TWRP to CWM just in case that was the issue. Nadda. This has to be a simple problem that's eluding me, but I haven't found any solutions specific to the OPO.
List out the steps you are doing to flash a rom when getting the error.

You're not wiping correctly, you need a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) when flashing a new ROM. Also, are you checking the md5 of the downloaded ROM zips?

I don't believe I've been wiping the dalvik, so I'll make sure I do that next time. I don't typically check the md5 before flashing (I know I should), but I did this time after the third failed attempt to flash -- it checked out just fine.
I think you're probably right. I'm just not wiping it properly.

Which recovery are you using? Have you disabled md5 checking in the recovery settings? Are you checking the md5 of the ROM after you download to ensure that it isn't corrupt?

Rename the md5 file to a .txt file. Then you can open it and the md5 will be displayed (it's a long list of characters). Use an md5 checking app or program to verify that the md5 of the file itself matches that.

i flashed oxygen from stock when it was released then after few days i went to cm 12 nightly upto the latest stable version.
then i tried flashing resurrection rom, it failed and in the process i soft bricked my phone but thanks to wugfresh toolkit i recovered and again unlocked my bootloader using the same toolkit coz the normal method using cmd was not working (no idea why).
then again i tried resurrection this time creating a backup first. It failed, same happened with blisspop too. same error
what do you suggest. what should i try?

Hey all,
I have my AT&T One X(L), and I'm unable to flash any custom ROMs with TWRP.
The phone is rooted, and unlocked, and on hboot 1.14.0002 if that helps.
I'm [trying] to run TWRP version 2.3.3.1 for Evita phones.
Here's the process I'm using:
I've placed the ROM zip file in the downloads section on my SD card.
Extract and flash the boot.img from the ROM zip file using command prompt.
Wipe cache/delvik/factory reset from TWRP
Press "install", and find the zip file (in this case it's ViperXL)
It never gets past this point. No error messages, all it says is that it failed to flash the zip file. I made sure that the check MD5 box is UNchecked.
ANY help is greatly appreciated!
Make sure signature verify is unchecked too.
Make sure the md5 of the zip file is okay
Go to mounts, see if sdcard is mounted. Uncheck it, go flash. It will work

Went back to the basics, and downloaded Rootchecker. It says my phone does not appear to be rooted, but I'm not sure how that's possible? I used the X-Factor exploit for 2.20 firmware, and on the bootloader screen it does say unlocked at the top. Could it actually not be rooted, or is it possible the app is wrong?

TWRP Flash onePLUS One ROM
I know that this thread is a bit stale; but I just got to it. I've had to reinstall my CM OS due to my own foolish error and am now going through that process. I've got what I thought was a correct full installation of CM2I3. However, somewhere along that line; I did not get a keyguard_wallpaper file installed. So now I have no way to set a lock screen. SO, Should I understand from these comments that:
- If i have a correctly check summed zip file. <cm-12.0-YNG1TAS2I3-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip> in my "Download" folder and TWRP installed with SU installed,
- Then, I can go to Recovery mode in TWRP and run Install on that file,
- I will get a clean install right over my existing CM2I3 OS installation that will include the proper keyguard_wallpaper file installed?
Is that correct?

ive never had a problem of just one file having an issue unless that build has a problem or the zip was corrupt. other then that you should consult your own device forum. your steps should be correct though if it's not a build or checksum issue.
Good day Friends of the Forum
I have a problem and do not know how to fix it , I have navigate a lot in the network and I could not get my phone to work . I have HTC One X from AT&T. By playing around with the phone, accidentaly I delete the O.S. so right now my phone is locked . I can't load Origanal or Custom ROMS . The only thing I can do is enter the bootloader and install recovery ( TWRP ) I installed several versions of TWRP to install a custom rom or I locked the bootloader to install the original RUU and everything has been WITHOUT SUCCESS .
Right now I have S -ON , my HBOOT is 2.14 and I can install TWRP Recovery 2.6.0.0 or 2.6.3.0 .
I have read in many places that I have to make an S -OFF to install a Custom ROM , but all I get Tips that I need an OS runing to finish the installation (or modified to do the S -OFF) . What can I do if my S.O. is actuall blocked (brick). Only screen I got when I turned on or reboot my is the white screen " HTC quietly brillant" .
My friends , I request help from the wise in this range. Since I ran out of ideas . I attached pictures with my phone information
regards
You are not bricked (or "blocked", whatever that means). A brick means the device cannot be recovered without opening the device (replacing mainboard, JTAG, etc.). If the screen comes on, its not bricked.
Just use your unlock token to unlock the bootloader again. TWRP and custom ROMs won't install if the bootloader is relocked. The unlock token will sometimes take several (or even many) tries to work. So if you tried already, and it didn't work, just keep trying.
Also, if you are SuperCID (which was required to get bootloader unlock on the AT&T version) and S-on (which you are) DO NOT RUN the 3.18 RUU. If you do so, you will brick the device for real (only recoverable by JTAG).
My advice would be re-unlock the bootloader, install TWRP, install the custom ROM of your choice, and then achieve S-off.
Also, I find this situation comes up far too often ("I wiped the OS and I don't know what to do"). Don't wipe things (like the OS) if you don't know what the result is going to be. And if you had made a nandroid before messing with things, you could have just restored. Seems there are just far too many n00bs getting into this hobby without exercising any basic common sense.
Thank you so much for your advice.
I just re-Unlock my phone.
Would you please help me with one issue? When I try to install a custom rom via TWRP 2.6.0.0 it says checking for MD5 file. No MD5 file found.
and the phone start restarting and restarting...
How MD5 file works or whats the the function of this file?

MD5 is a checksum file (verifies the integrity of the download). But this shouldn't be happening in TWRP. Try the default wipe option in TWRP (factory reset, cache and Dalvik) and try again.

No, do not relock the bootloader, that isn't the problem. I'm not trying to sound harsh, but why are you attempting to install custom ROMs? You lack a basic understanding of what you're doing, this is very dangerous. I seriously suggest that once you get the phone up and running again you stop modifying it and take the time to do some research and learn about what you're doing. You should always know what you're doing before you do it. Not knowing what you're doing leads to situations like this where you have idea how to recover, or even to a bricked device.
Did you manually check the md5 of the ROM zip after downloading it? The file might be corrupt, thus causing the installer to fail.

This problem happens with all roms that I try to install?? In your experience how do I make a good MD5 manually check .
Regards
The md5 sum will be listed on the download page of the ROM, you need to use an md5 checking program/app to make sure the md5 of the downloaded file matches the one listed on the download page. To make this easier to understand, an md5 is like a fingerprint of the file made up of a series of letters and numerals. If the md5 of the file matches the one listed on the site you know the file is exactly as it should be. If it doesn't match then you know the file has been corrupted during the download.

I´m Sorry, I din't check the md5, do you think the problem resides in the md5 file?? I already try with 12 custom and 1 clean rom for the AT&T HTC One X, that's why I didn´t check the md5 file, because I thought that one of all the roms, one of them is going to be the correct one. In some cases there is no md5 file for downloading.

Anybody figure out how to fix this? I can find people having this problem flashing 4.4 but I can't flash anything. I've tried to flash mf1 firmware, a 4.3 carbon nightly, and a 4.3 pac nightly. All with the same results. Here is exactly what I did -
I flashed PhilZ recovery earlier on a earlier version of TWRP.
kept getting a "failed" in PhilZ
Flashed latest TWRP via Odin
Tried flashing the above mentioned zips all with the error message.
Restored my hyper drive rls16 backup (4.1.2)
Installed latest TWRP via goomanager app
Edit : my phone is flashed to PagePlus so I kinda have to be careful I'm afraid of using Odin to go back to stock/rooted but my luck that's what it'll take. When I get home I'm going to try it with a older version of TWRP that's the only other thing I can think to try.
Any suggestions or info is appreciated.

Supposedly the update binary here is generic, you could try replacing the one in the rom zip with it

I've tried CWM PhilZ and TWRP all latest versions, and still can't get rid of this.
I Cannot install any rom, whatsoever. I did manage to install a MF1 radio zip, but that's it. I can't install 4.3 or even 4.2 ..
I've replaced the update-binary inside the zips, and edited the update-script and removed the stuff used for recognizing the device, still no dice ..
I ended up flashing a full mf1 img via Odin and then used casual to root/unlock/recovery install - and I STILL get the error. Not sure where to go from here. Seems like nobody else is having this problem unless they're not on the latest recovery and trying to flash KitKat.
Thought I'd share the rest of my story ..
edit: I was able to restore a old backup of 1.7 carbon ...lol. better than nothing or a TW rom, that's for sure.
When you replaced the update binary did you get the same error or a different one? Also, have you tried flashing from internal and external SD?

OK, I have one for you to try, use the original rom zip (don't edit the update-script), when you flash in recovery and it failed, select boot and boot back into recovery, then reflash again. Try it with the latest TWRP 2.6.3.2.
SOLVED ! only took a week ...
I had been using an update-binary file that was posted in a thread.
I took the file from PhilZ recovery ( which I had been able to flash, just nothing else ) and used that one. Imagine that, it worked.

I appreciate the advice along the way. Thank you.
now I just have to decide if I want carbon or pac as my daily driver for awhile.. Carbon is what i've almost always used after I figured out how bloated and laggy TW is.. Best of all my PagePlus flash is perfectly fine, didn't have to add APN's or mess with anything else to get data to work.
I hope this thread helps somebody else.

Could you please let me know how you solved this. Maybe it can help with my device as well. had no luck in our threds..

If you're getting a status 7 error you have to replace the update binary with the latest nightly from cm11 in anything you want to flash. The update binary is universal and will work on anything you want to flash. If it is throwing another error then this won't work.
This will probably only work with cwm or philz.

E: eror eexecuting updater binary in zip /sdcard/zipfilename.zip Error flashing zip /sdcard/zipfilename Updating partition details Failed
Could you please let me know how can I replace the update binary with the latest nightly from cm11? Do you need to open zip from latest Nities and put it into my ZIP?
2) I have tried both cwm or philz and I am getting this error
Code:
this package is for m7wlj devices this is dlx
My device is m7wlj for sure. But somehow recovery thinks it is DLX
THANK YOU

It's a recovery version problem, so either update your recovery or use an older one until you find something that works.

After conducting my own research with this same problem I discovered a much simpler method of correcting the issue. When flashing KK roms with older versions of custom recoveries, the recoveries did not have sufficient instructions to to handle some of the file system changes in KK. I tried replacing the updater binaries from multiple ROMs to no avail. After about 24 hours of trial and error I managed to successfully flash Cyanogenmod cm-11-20140709-NIGHTLY-d801 and GAPPs aokp_gapps-kk-20140517 to my LG G2 D801. All that had to be done is to update TWRP from 2.6.3.2 to version 2.7.1. This version of TWRP had the necessary instructions to support a KK version custom ROM.
Good Job

I had same issue, installed newest TWRP. Fixed! Used Odin to install.
I had the same issue as the OP. I was trying to flash a rom from the external SD card. I moved it to the Internal SD and it worked.

My Nexus 5 is rooted. It downloaded the 4.4.3 update. It tries to restart and Team Win Recovery opens. I enter my password and it decrypts the data andI get the Team Win Recovery options. I don't see where to install the update from though?
I manually downloaded it from the link and I'm not seeing where Chrome put it either.
What am I missing? I'm certain I'm in the right folder which is downloads. It looks like it is only looking for a .zip file, but when I go to file viewer it looks like it downloaded a .tar.
How do I just tell the system to install the file it downloaded?
You need the OTA update. Sounds like you downloaded the full image. AP has the links.

What is AP?
I'm running the stock ROM and I am only running Xposed
ETA - I searched and found a link here. Is this what I need? http://www.droid-life.com/2014/06/03/download-android-4-4-3-ota-update/
Now my pc won't see the Nexus 5 and I tried downloading the Nexus 5 USB driver for windows 8 and it's saying it's not the right one.
Have a read of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217
It lists many different scenarios whereby you need to do different things depending on how your phone is loaded up for the update.
For the USB drivers you can get them from here:

I uninstalled Xposed from apps. I went to try to redownload the update, but it now says my phone is up to date but it's running 4.4.2
Now that I have xposed uninstalled, when the update is shown again (or hopefully I can force it since I'm sure it downloaded it and stored it somewhere) will it just run the update properly? Or is it still going to boot into team win and then not do anything?

I just downloaded the .zip file that is the update using my phone. I went into Team Win and clicked on install. Went to downloads and it errors. I have tried downloading it and installing it 3x and it always says E: Error executing updater binary in zip'/sdcard Error flashing zip'/sdcard/download/filename
wiping the cache/dalvik does nothing

Wait. There is a stock rom with root already in it now so I don't have to money around to root anymore?!
I don't want to lose my data though.

yup http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/flashable-stock-4-4-3-supersu-t2771010
you can try dirty flashing first, it should be fine. just make a backup in recovery beforehand, just in case.

How do I dirty flash it? I'm still not certain why I can't just run the update file I downloaded as it errors on me.

The dirty flash worked perfect. It seems that is the only file that I need? Since I did the 4xx MB ROM?
I wish Google would make it easy to update while rooted on the nexus phones. I'm only so smart
Will I continue to get OTA software updates if I root and unlock the boot loader (to install TWRP)?
Thanks,

Yes, make sure to untick to update the recovery in the debug options

Yes.Of course. But it happened to me that the update script showed some errors. I had to fix them by downloading the original files and replacing my system files.
want to love this device but it seems like its always something.

Can I dirty flash the nightlies from CM11S if I have just unlocked the bootlader and rooted?
There is no nightly for CM11s just for CM11.
I recommend to do a clean install including factory reset.
Keep in mind that after flashing something, you need to flash root at the end too

So we will still get OTA's great! Great phone for costumizations.

That does not happen if you just unlock, root and install a custom recovery.
Also a custom kernel would be fine

Sorry if this is a bit of a n00b question (I know people are sensitive about that!) but I have searched around a bit and not found a solution to this issue. Here's the situation...
So what i've done so far is unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, and SuperSU (so I have root). I also unchecked the update recovery box in dev options. When told I need to update I downloaded the update, hit install, the phone reboots and takes me to TWRP. When in TWRP I hit install, navigate to the cache and try to install the update /cache/cm-bacon-d22b777afa-to-4f280f505a-signed.zip
When I do that, I get the following:
"
E:Error installing zip file '/cache/cm-bacon-d22b777afa-to-4f280f505a-signed.zip'
Done processing script file
Installing '/cache/cm-bacon-d22b777afa-to-4f280f505a-signed.zip'...

Anybody got any ideas?
Seems TWRP expects a MD5 file.
I use CWM as recovery and can install the update OTA. Maybe try CWM recovery

Yeah, you gotta open the zip on your pc, modify META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script and remove the code (its in the top part) that mentions the incompatible data error. Then try flashing again.

Yeah, I don't like TWRP and got CWM installed, so I can only give support about that [emoji213]
