AT&T HTC One X Bricked (Blocked) - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Good day Friends of the Forum
I have a problem and do not know how to fix it , I have navigate a lot in the network and I could not get my phone to work . I have HTC One X from AT&T. By playing around with the phone, accidentaly I delete the O.S. so right now my phone is locked . I can't load Origanal or Custom ROMS . The only thing I can do is enter the bootloader and install recovery ( TWRP ) I installed several versions of TWRP to install a custom rom or I locked the bootloader to install the original RUU and everything has been WITHOUT SUCCESS .
Right now I have S -ON , my HBOOT is 2.14 and I can install TWRP Recovery 2.6.0.0 or 2.6.3.0 .
I have read in many places that I have to make an S -OFF to install a Custom ROM , but all I get Tips that I need an OS runing to finish the installation (or modified to do the S -OFF) . What can I do if my S.O. is actuall blocked (brick). Only screen I got when I turned on or reboot my is the white screen " HTC quietly brillant" .
My friends , I request help from the wise in this range. Since I ran out of ideas . I attached pictures with my phone information
regards

You are not bricked (or "blocked", whatever that means). A brick means the device cannot be recovered without opening the device (replacing mainboard, JTAG, etc.). If the screen comes on, its not bricked.
Just use your unlock token to unlock the bootloader again. TWRP and custom ROMs won't install if the bootloader is relocked. The unlock token will sometimes take several (or even many) tries to work. So if you tried already, and it didn't work, just keep trying.
Also, if you are SuperCID (which was required to get bootloader unlock on the AT&T version) and S-on (which you are) DO NOT RUN the 3.18 RUU. If you do so, you will brick the device for real (only recoverable by JTAG).
My advice would be re-unlock the bootloader, install TWRP, install the custom ROM of your choice, and then achieve S-off.
Also, I find this situation comes up far too often ("I wiped the OS and I don't know what to do"). Don't wipe things (like the OS) if you don't know what the result is going to be. And if you had made a nandroid before messing with things, you could have just restored. Seems there are just far too many n00bs getting into this hobby without exercising any basic common sense.

Thank you so much for your advice.
I just re-Unlock my phone.
Would you please help me with one issue? When I try to install a custom rom via TWRP 2.6.0.0 it says checking for MD5 file. No MD5 file found.
and the phone start restarting and restarting...
How MD5 file works or whats the the function of this file?
Best regards

MD5 is a checksum file (verifies the integrity of the download). But this shouldn't be happening in TWRP. Try the default wipe option in TWRP (factory reset, cache and Dalvik) and try again.

I have a problem when I try to install custom rom ViperXL_4.2.0.zip
When I try to install, the rom send me to a wizard, I follow the steps of the wizard and the star installing the rom, when the installation percent reach 7 % the phone restarts and send me the HTC quitly brillant screen.

Do you think that I need re-lock the bootloader and then re-unlock the bootloader??
thanks

No, do not relock the bootloader, that isn't the problem. I'm not trying to sound harsh, but why are you attempting to install custom ROMs? You lack a basic understanding of what you're doing, this is very dangerous. I seriously suggest that once you get the phone up and running again you stop modifying it and take the time to do some research and learn about what you're doing. You should always know what you're doing before you do it. Not knowing what you're doing leads to situations like this where you have idea how to recover, or even to a bricked device.
Did you manually check the md5 of the ROM zip after downloading it? The file might be corrupt, thus causing the installer to fail.

No, I don't think relocking is going to help at all.
Try downloading the ROM again.

Thanks verry much for your advice, now I am living the consequences for start playing with my device without knowledge. I promise when this nightmare ends, I am going to do a deep research for installing custom roms and how to make backups before playing.
This problem happens with all roms that I try to install?? In your experience how do I make a good MD5 manually check .
Regards

The md5 sum will be listed on the download page of the ROM, you need to use an md5 checking program/app to make sure the md5 of the downloaded file matches the one listed on the download page. To make this easier to understand, an md5 is like a fingerprint of the file made up of a series of letters and numerals. If the md5 of the file matches the one listed on the site you know the file is exactly as it should be. If it doesn't match then you know the file has been corrupted during the download.

Wipe the phone using TWRP wipe options, Then try to install it again, If it fails again then wipe and install clean ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655011 Or try the stock ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2423735
Then try viperXL again. Make sure its the full 7xxMB Zip and not the update thats like 44MB
(Wiping With TWRP will not erase TWRP)

I´m Sorry, I din't check the md5, do you think the problem resides in the md5 file?? I already try with 12 custom and 1 clean rom for the AT&T HTC One X, that's why I didn´t check the md5 file, because I thought that one of all the roms, one of them is going to be the correct one. In some cases there is no md5 file for downloading.

Have you tried reflashing CWM via fastboot? Could just be your recovery got borked and you need to reflash recovery.
You can also try reflashing CWM via ROM Manager.
edit: Your img file might be corrupt, did you compare the MD5 sum? How are you flashing recovery?

No you don't have to do all of that,
Just download the correct CWM recovery.img file, CHECK the MD5, then flash via fastboot, you don't have to start fresh or anything.
edit:
what phone is this for?
I got that it's an HTC device running Sense 4 but we might help you find a better CWM recovery link if we know which device you're using on what carrier.

Awesome!
Glad we got you back up and running, it can be a real pain when the issue is a bad img file and you can't seem to figure out what is going on, but people need to remember to check MD5 sums for recoveries, radios and bootloaders lest they brick.
I don't think you need to upload since that link seems to work, they can just find the CWM for that phone from the link I provided and flash via fastboot from there.
Cheers bro, let us know how it's going after you flash the ROM

Yea it is, but I think it's more for Motorola devices. I don't know what HTC uses if anything different. But my phone would boot to the OS so I could still install apps via the SD card. Once I got that properly reinstalled I could access the boot menu again.
Seems like you got that issue solved by I still wanted to follow up.

[Q] ATT HTC One X

My HTC one X came stock with 4.0.4 and all that whatnot, and has the new Hboot 1.(14 i think?) I'd assume. Well i successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp, however now I am stuck. Whenever I try to install a rom.zip it tells me that the MD5 is not found and any processes after that fail as well. I'm really lost. I'm fairly new to Android, been an iOS user but after rooting and flashing CyanogenMod7 on my Nook color it was an easy conversion. So I'm not entirely new to the process, theres just got to be something really easy that I'm missing.

When you flash in TWRP, there should be an option called "force md5 check" or something along those lines. Deselect that, and then try flashing. Also, needless to say, make sure your ROM .zip file is intact and authentic.
I believe that option should arise after you select the file you want to flash, but I don't remember exactly off the top of my head.
Further tip: if you get past that stage, remember that you have to separately flash the boot.img via fastboot, since your bootloader is greater than 1.09.
I saw that, but wasn't sure when to do that. Is that before or after I install the rom?

Before. Once you're set up with fastboot, enter "fastboot flash boot boot.img". The boot.img is found by extracting the ROM's .zip file and pasting it into the folder where fastboot etc. are located. After that's flashed, boot into recovery and flash your ROM like you normally would. This is required for any rom you flash with your bootloader, not just CM10.
Also, if installing a new ROM, you have to wipe everything, not just dalvik and cache.

Fair point. My understanding is that there can be other issues with md5 checking unrelated to the integrity of the ROM, but my mistake if that's wrong
Try this on?

Watch the video, if your flashing cm just turn the md5 check off in twrp.

I was able to install CM9 and Paranoid Android even with it not passing the MD5 check. So my next question is is it really necessary? Is there a way to turn off the check? Or do I still need it for maybe other ROMs?
Did you ready post? Yes you need to turn md5 check "off" in twrp.

TWRP Failing to Flash ANY ROMs

Hey all,
I have my AT&T One X(L), and I'm unable to flash any custom ROMs with TWRP.
The phone is rooted, and unlocked, and on hboot 1.14.0002 if that helps.
I'm [trying] to run TWRP version 2.3.3.1 for Evita phones.
Here's the process I'm using:
I've placed the ROM zip file in the downloads section on my SD card.
Extract and flash the boot.img from the ROM zip file using command prompt.
Wipe cache/delvik/factory reset from TWRP
Press "install", and find the zip file (in this case it's ViperXL)
It never gets past this point. No error messages, all it says is that it failed to flash the zip file. I made sure that the check MD5 box is UNchecked.
ANY help is greatly appreciated!
Make sure signature verify is unchecked too.
Make sure the md5 of the zip file is okay
Go to mounts, see if sdcard is mounted. Uncheck it, go flash. It will work

Went back to the basics, and downloaded Rootchecker. It says my phone does not appear to be rooted, but I'm not sure how that's possible? I used the X-Factor exploit for 2.20 firmware, and on the bootloader screen it does say unlocked at the top. Could it actually not be rooted, or is it possible the app is wrong?

TWRP Flash onePLUS One ROM
I know that this thread is a bit stale; but I just got to it. I've had to reinstall my CM OS due to my own foolish error and am now going through that process. I've got what I thought was a correct full installation of CM2I3. However, somewhere along that line; I did not get a keyguard_wallpaper file installed. So now I have no way to set a lock screen. SO, Should I understand from these comments that:
- If i have a correctly check summed zip file. <cm-12.0-YNG1TAS2I3-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip> in my "Download" folder and TWRP installed with SU installed,
- Then, I can go to Recovery mode in TWRP and run Install on that file,
- I will get a clean install right over my existing CM2I3 OS installation that will include the proper keyguard_wallpaper file installed?
Is that correct?

ive never had a problem of just one file having an issue unless that build has a problem or the zip was corrupt. other then that you should consult your own device forum. your steps should be correct though if it's not a build or checksum issue.

It has TWRP 2.6
The last time I got it working was on the STOCK 4.2.2 I downloaded from the XDA - then I got into the issues of rebooting and loosing signal from time to time. so I went into my TWRP backup I had and reflashed it using my old backup made from my TWRP.
the reflashed failed and now I can only boot up to the HTC logo and then black screen.
I can get to the TWRP recovery and I have got fastboot and ADB on my PC.
When I run the fastboot devices command --> it shows device connected BUT when i try ADB command ---> no device is found.
It will be much appreciated if someone can guide me to the right direction as I am really stucked at the moment not sure where to start.
I tried searching in the forum but I don't think I went to the correct area/tutorial.
Please help
Thank you
When you made your twrp backup did you select system, data, and boot? If it's hanging at the HTC screen it seems there is not boot.img installed or one that is incompatible with your backup. Open whatever Rom your backup is made from and copy the boot.img to your fastboot directory. Then reboot the phone into fastboot mode and flash the boot.img using this command.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then reboot the phone and see what happens

Thanks for the reply.
When looking at the TWRP backup I copied into my PC - does not have the .img - the one I can find is MD5
Can I use the existing ROM I donwload from XDA like : EVITA_UL_JB_50_S_TMO_DE_5.08.111.2_By_Turge.zip
when I extracted EVITA_UL_JB_50_S_TMO_DE_5.08.111.2_By_Turge.zip - I can see the "boot.img" can I use this one?
Thanks

I had a somewhat similar experience with Viper 4.0 ROM - I managed to get Cyanogenmod installed correctly (particularly this one). Take a shot and see if it works - atleast your phone will be up and working.

hmm - Im on ROM dated 09/13, which is not present now. Your best bet would be http://get.cm/get/aOM
Also remember to flash Google Apps (play store, etc.) which is packaged separately here - http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip

Hi Sandy
Thank you again for your help
I finally got my phone at least booting again.
What i did was I went to the fastboot and then correct to the PC and when it was asking for format the drive, I did format it (fingers crossed) and luckily it let me see the ROm I downloaded from the Stock 4.2.2 Turge version.
Now my problem is that the phone keeps rebooting.
I don;t know how to flash the kernel as suggested on the front page of the thread.
What is the most stable ROM at the moment?
I want to learn how to flash and fix this - I have kept reading post after post but I still can not get myself to where I want it to be which is fixing the reboot issue from the STOCK 4.2.2 Turge version.
I am a real newbie so I am not too familar with some of the fancy terms people use.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

You can either flash the kernel, which can be found in the Android Development section, flashing the kernel is just like flashing a ROM, just install in Beastmode. Or you can upgrade your firmware to 2.15, the instructions are I'm the first post of the ROM thread.
Asking which ROM is best/favorite/most stable is against the rules so we can't answer that question.
When you say the phone keeps rebooting, does it ever make it into the OS or is it boot looping (showing the boot animation then starting over)?

When you said that flashing kernel is the same as flashing ROM, I did it By going to TWRP and the press install and locate the zip file. Is this what should be done?
What is beast mode?
Sorry for the basic questions
Thanks
Yeah that's how you install the kernel. It must be done after you install the ROM. I kinda worded my reply a bit weird, sorry about that. Beastmode is the name of the kernel, you can find it here:

I did try to flash it through recovery but it always failed. Not sure why. I copied the kernel zip file into my phone sd and then I went to recovery and press the install and located the kernel zip file but still failed.

Which recovery version are you using?
Sent from my Evita
Recovery is 2.6.3.
The process failed on not able to fine the MD5 file or something like that. We don't need to extract the Zip file do we?
Cheers
Disable md5 checking in settings. You never need to extract a kernel or ROM zip.

I have checked the setting in TWRP and nothing is ticked.
When I flash the zip, it is still saying "failed due to md5 does not exists".
I am not sure which should be address first but I now noticed that there is an error : "unable to locate storage device"
also came out.
When I plug my phone to PC I can see the storage but why it is saying "storage device not found" in TWRP?
Thanks

[Q] Help: stucked TAMPERED LOCKED S-ON

Hi guys, a few day ago my One SV had some problems, rebooting itself and runs very slowly; so i tryed to do something like root it, but not knowing what i'm doing 'cause i don't have much time.
Probably installing a wrong rom, now I'm stuck in the bootloader with S-ON Tampered, Locked, and Security Warning flags.
The phone stuck with htc logo, i only manage to go into bootloader, pdanet gives me sync error, twrp recovery doesn't work anymore.
Is there something I can do now?

As long as your device is Locked, you can't flash a custom recovery.
So unlock your device at htcdev.com, flash Twrp recovery and flash back a working rom.
Use a Android 4.1.2 rom, otherwise you will have problems with noisy sound.

How do you mount the sd?
At least pull it out of your device and put it into your PC and copy needed files in this way.
One thing i could not solve earlier (because of bad internet connection): did you already install the Android 4.2.2 update or what was your software running on your device before? Thats important to give you the right rom for your firmware!
I'll give you the links anyway:
4.1.2 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254384
4.2.2 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512742
Rumrunner & moonshine are confirmed working for your hboot, but which you should use at least also depends on your previous software.

Im sorry That error is from the twrp recovery when i try to install superuser.. It says unable to mount int sd.. I think internal memory
Ignore it. Only use the files, recommended in my index thread (use SuperSu, not Superuser), link in my signature.
And answer the other question.

Ok, so you can use the second link for the stock rom. And rumrunner for S-off.

I installed the 4.2.2 versions, seems completed but phone remains with black screen showing only the top bar with the clock, then reboot itself; sometimes after reboot it shows the bottom clock and lock, you can also unlock it, but then it reboots;
One time it shows me the backgroud.
Maybe it's a motherboard problem, what do you think?
Thanks

Have you flashed the boot.img with fastboot? Did you wipe everything before?
May give the 4.1.2 rom a try.

Stop. Did you only wipe data/cache/dalvik.
No system?
You need to wipe all, except internal & external sd!

Also system yes. And if i wiped the internal sd?
anyway after installing the rom, from twrp internal storage is 0 MB
Then i'm running out of ideas
As the roms worked for other people, i also start thinking thats something bugged with your device.
You checked md5sum of the roms? Using latest TWRP recovery?

Yes, used the latest TWRP recovery.
the recovery say to me no md5 file, is this the problem?
How can I check the md5 now?
I don't know the name of the tool (i'm at work), but you will find it with google search, i think.
In recovery this is not a problem, its only to check on your pc, if the downloaded file is the same as the upload.
