Hi,
I'm using Cataclysm 5.1 stable and the Elementalx kernel. I can't get poweramp to change tracks when I long press the volume up/down.
I believe I've properly configured the settings in poweramp and cataclysm but holding the volume rocker will just increase the volume. Any ideas? I need this for commuting around the city.
Do you think it could be a problem with ElementalX and the wake settings during AROMA install?
Same here.. using poweramp player.. no track is change if long press the volume rocker.. tried all settings..
It's the poweramp itself not being too friendly with lollipop..
So, I actually found the problem with poweramp... it was the "ambient display" mod that was causing the problem. Reflashed the rom without the mod and it seems to function properly now!

Just curious if you could have installed a mod that caused this problem. The ambient display mod modified the systemUI and framework.res. Not sure which one broke poweramp but perhaps your problem could lay there?

When I listen to music(mostly streaming) I constantly play with the volume. When the screen is off and I am listening to music, I have to turn the screen on to use the volume buttons to change the media volume. How can I use the volume buttons to change the media volume when the screen is off(when music is playing)?
Are you stock or running a custom rom like CM7. I know there is a feature in CM7 for the volume controls to work with screen off. I personal don't know of a app for stock rom.
Has it always been like this? Because I thought on most stock ROMs, nexus one even, the volume worked with screen off for music and call volume. Weird.
I'm on stock and my volume buttons have always worked fine with the screen off when adjusting media volume.
The issue might be that streaming apps such as pandora are running in the background or are do not have the functionality enabled. I've never tested it myself.

Exactly.
I am using CM7 RC1 as it saids in the my signature. Where in CM7 can the volume buttons be configured to work when screen is off? I looked several times in CM7 settings...maybe I'm just missing it.
Anyone know of a fix? My volume won't lower while playing music through the app. Works fine in any other situation.

So when you hit the volume buttons does the ringer volume change instead of the music volume? Or does nothing happen?
Are you running stock, stock with xposed modules or a ROM?
Are you trying to play through the phone speaker, headphones or bluetooth? And have you tried another option and does the issue still occur?

It's defaulted to media volume (via xposed and gravity box), but before that it would still show the media volume while in the app and never adjust. I've tried Paranoid Android, stock with xposed, and stock after a complete re-image. CyanogenMod seemed to be immune from this issue, or maybe I never tested it.
Bluetooth works fine, headphones untested (I'm at work at the moment), so the speaker is my main issue. All other media apps work fine. I managed to fix it once by toggling the volume in the YouTube app, then switching back to Music and it worked. That trick hasn't work since. Also, the volume meter does move, it just keeps it at max volume regardless.

get rid of the xposed
Hi,
I use my nexus 5 to play music in the car. What was really handy was an exposed module that started playing music as soon as the headphone jack was connected. It also jacked the media volume to max, skipping the annoying safe volume warning. While the screen was off holding the volume skipped the track.
Now I have installed android L to give that a go. It is great but this is the only feature that I miss. Now with no xposed I have gone searching for an alternative app. I have tried a few but of the half that actually worked none of them stay working. After some time they no longer skip the track.
I don't know if this is maybe just not possible with a standard app, which is why the xposed module exists. But it would be greatly appreciated if anyone has found of a reliable app which performs this task.
Try Apollo (default CM music app) I'm not sure if it works on Android L but it does have the features your looking for..
It's a framework integration hence the need for Xposed or a custom ROM. Or you could manually decompile and recompile (if you can even get it to work with the L API level).
Or, wait.
How about with Tasker?

Don't think Tasker can do it. I seem to recall looking into it quite some time ago.
Thanks for the messages. I have tried Apollo but i much prefer the Google play music. Mainly for streaming music. I would have through this feature would be in the official app but i guess not.

K I'm making it my mission today to figure this out with Tasker. I've been using tasker for forever and I've got some pretty advanced profiles. I'll figure this out with Google Play Music
Edit: I did find this app. But I'm gonna still try to do this with tasker.
Check out "Pocket Skip Track"

Sorry for my late reply.
Why couldn't Tasker do it? Just install this plugin and set your profiles. That should work.
I have tried Pocket Skip Track before and it didn't fully work. Just tried it again and chose other music instead of Google music. That seems to work. Let's see if it stays working. It's a shame it's a 2 button press instead of hold it it will do for now

Its not that easy bud. Trust me. It seems Tasker can not see the volume keys as hardware keys. Will work on this tonight or tomorrow.

There's a reason Xposed or a custom ROM is used to do it lol..

I know its been a while but I seriously want to get this to work with tasker. Did you get this working?
Poweramp will start music automatically when a headset or bluetooth is connected.
Cataclysm ROM will enable the track skip while long-pressing the volume.
Unfortunately I don't know about how to set the volume to max automatically, but I think you can disable the volume warning message within Cataclysm ROM too.
I'm trying to get this working too in tasker. Hold vol Up to skip forward etc. Can't see how to get tasker to detect this. (basically the back/forward buttons are broken)
made it possible on non rooted phones
try Frinky Music Controller
I always wanted to have an app which controls music with volume keys but i could not find any which does it smoothly. So I developed my own . My app Frinky Music Controller on GOOGLE PLAY controls music with volume keys and smartly controls music volume. It supports more 200 music players including poweramp, musixmatch, doubletwist, la musique, rocket player, blackplayer, pi music player, and Spotify. It works on both rooted and non-rooted phones.
Some features of the app are :
Next Song -- press volume UP key single time to play next song.
Previous Song -- use volume DOWN key to play previous song.
Control Volume -- when we want to control music volume , most of the time we press volume key more than once (next time when you adjust volume , feel it) . So the app uses this tendency of users as a function to control music volume i.e press volume key more than once to adjust volume.
Stop song -- Oh! you play music in your class in absence of professor here comes the professor .... turn off the music quickly by UP+UP+DOWN+DOWN key action (it takes less time than muting the volume and unlocking the screen .
Sleep Timer : Single sleep timer for all your music apps.
Manually control app's service : well to understand this feature you will have to download the app.
It consumes very less amount of ram.
I am new here so can not post link.
One of the gripes I have with android L is that if im playing music through google play, I can't change the volume of the ringer while the music is playing. It just adjusts the music volume. Is there an expandable volume panel object of some sort? thanks.
Also interested in this, subscribed.
There is an app called Noyze that seems to be what we are after but it needs to be updated because it can't be activated in lollipop...
Settings -> Sound & Notification
Yeah great. If you git a mo3 or video screaming way to loud I will go to settings and then....
Thats ridiciculous.
An expandable volume panel has just been added in the latest Cataclysm ROM update.

Well no because if you have media playing, the volume keys control the media. There's no problem there. OP wants to adjust ringtone volume whilst media is playing. Volume keys won't control ringtones until media is stopped.
Try Volume Button by Yogesh Dama. Not exactly what you what but it may be enough until we see this in custom ROMs.

I'm on mobile using XDA app and I've done some searching on this but haven't seen a similar thread or come up with a solution. I prefer my Volume Rocker keys to control Ringer Volume by default and I guess Nougat has changed the default to Media Volume. Anyone know how to change the default back to Ringer Volume?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: for what it's worth, anyone wanting to do the OPPOSITE of what I was wanting can start with this app...Rocker Locker

I always knew this to be the case but convinced myself otherwise because I couldn't figure out the issue.
It looks like I have an app installed that makes the system persist as if there's media being played even when the app is in the background (and before you ask...No, the app isn't a video or music streaming app! :silly: ).
