Can't adjust volume in Google music. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of a fix? My volume won't lower while playing music through the app. Works fine in any other situation.

So when you hit the volume buttons does the ringer volume change instead of the music volume? Or does nothing happen?
Are you running stock, stock with xposed modules or a ROM?
Are you trying to play through the phone speaker, headphones or bluetooth? And have you tried another option and does the issue still occur?

It's defaulted to media volume (via xposed and gravity box), but before that it would still show the media volume while in the app and never adjust. I've tried Paranoid Android, stock with xposed, and stock after a complete re-image. CyanogenMod seemed to be immune from this issue, or maybe I never tested it.
Bluetooth works fine, headphones untested (I'm at work at the moment), so the speaker is my main issue. All other media apps work fine. I managed to fix it once by toggling the volume in the YouTube app, then switching back to Music and it worked. That trick hasn't work since. Also, the volume meter does move, it just keeps it at max volume regardless.

Blaze Volume low

Volume was never much to write home about, but following latest update, I rooted the phone again since the update seemed to cancel out the root,
and my volume on SMS and ringer are less than half strength. I need very strong volume where I work.
I have Volume + but it doesn't seem to work on this phone. All Volume adjustments do nothing.
Any suggestions? I haven't tried a ROM yet. I am considering DK, but have never uploaded a ROM before
Any help would be appreciated!
Try downloading AudioManager from the Play Store. Works for me.

I'm looking to over-ride the existing audio settings. That app doesn't do that.
Is there an app that does over ride the stock settings and can overdrive the audio? I realize I'll have distortion, but right now I can't hear anything so it's better than missing calls.
Thanks again in advance.

[Q] Version of the Volume+ (or similar) that works with Jelly Bean? (4.1.2)

Apparently Volume+ doesn't work with Jelly Bean - Anyone found a replacement? I hear the dev is working on a version that will work with JB, but need something in the interim. So quiet!

Yes, the sound is nearly unusable for watching movies on an airplane with headphones. And the built in speaker has a really hard time filling a quiet room :S
There's a lot of apps that can boost the media volume, including Volume+. I think the problem with Volume+ on JB I'd that it doesn't boost the phone call volume, which probably isn't a problem for most tab users...
Volume+ seems like it is working for me.
Volume+ was the culprit of multiple reboots on my device. Everytime i would play a movie or listen to music, the device would reboot. I didnt figure this out until recently. I uninstalled volume+ last weekend and my tablet hasnt rebooted one time.

volume+ works for me on JB but not in Netflix app
I'm using Music Volume to make the sound loud enough for .mkv movies. (click on the EQ button and slide all sliders to the top.) Note, you have to "long press" the close button to actually exit or stop the program as it runs in the background normally.
Then I use Volume In Notification so I can control the voulme from the notification bar, ... duh , during movies or anytime without exiting an application.

Volume button changing media volume, not notification volume

For some reason my volume keys are not functioning properly. I have already tried to reset and it does work for a little bit but it eventually goes back to the media volume (like if you were in Youtube)
I haven't run any apps aside from Hangouts an everything in the background is closed. Any ideas?

I can confirm this same issue with my Nexus 5. Volume buttons initially controlled the notification volume, but now are only controlling the media volume. This occurs even on the home screen. The only way I can control the notification volume is to go into Settings->Sound->Volumes and change it manually.
Does anyone know of a potential fix for this?
Same problem here.

Check if there is any kind of media player running (Podcast, Music, Pandora) it doesn't have to be playing anything, but I have noticed that if one is open it will change the media volume 8/10 times. Also tapping on an empty section of the home screen, then immediately changing it seems to trigger the ringer/notification.
Hopefully this helps

[Q] Way to route speaker audio to the phone earpiece?

Hi,
Is there an app/other method I can use to make audio play in the phone's earpiece speaker? For things like playing music files, not just for routing a VOIP call for a specific app.
I have a rooted Nexus 5 running 4.4.4 KitKat.
Thanks
There is an app called earpiece that does exactly what you all for in the play store. Works flawlessly.

Thanks for the fast reply
I tried the Earpiece app and it works but i noticed there's no way to adjust the volume of the earpiece speaker. I tried adjusting the normal volume as well as the ringer volume. Does anyone know a way to adjust the volume using this app?
Edit: The volume changing works. I tested the apps functionality in the youtube app at the time of the post. I restarted and tried it with the stock music player and it worked great.
Hmm, it seems you are right. I last remember it working perfectly but it seems that now volume control doesn't work for me either. My apologies, this is the only solution I have. Hopefully someone else will be able to offer some advice.
EDIT: Spelling

[Solved] Change Volume Rocker default?

I'm on mobile using XDA app and I've done some searching on this but haven't seen a similar thread or come up with a solution. I prefer my Volume Rocker keys to control Ringer Volume by default and I guess Nougat has changed the default to Media Volume. Anyone know how to change the default back to Ringer Volume?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: for what it's worth, anyone wanting to do the OPPOSITE of what I was wanting can start with this app...Rocker Locker

I always knew this to be the case but convinced myself otherwise because I couldn't figure out the issue.
It looks like I have an app installed that makes the system persist as if there's media being played even when the app is in the background (and before you ask...No, the app isn't a video or music streaming app! :silly: ).
