OnePlus Overheating! - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok , soo I've read a few threads about this issue but have yet to found a fix/workaround. Ive only had the phone for a week now. When it comes to gaming and heavy usage of the phone . the back tends to warmup quite a bit around the camera piece, it just gets worst and worst. I got the 64gb version i believe with the Blackstone case, running SlimLp and Franco kernels. Just downloaded an app to under clock CPU see if that helps. Idk if its just a normal thing? Or should contact one plus on the issue.
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance

Yes. Obey me.
It is perfectly normal. I once succeeded to keep my phone cool using an kernel and synapse settings(intelliplug, hotplug and some undetclocking). It didn't heat up at all while heavy gaming, but performance was lost; it lagged a lot.
So this is normal, you can search for this here in xda and also OnePlus forums.

Ahhh Thanks! I will try the synapse settings . I just wanted to make sure my phone wasn't going melt down ahaha or damage anything inside.

Yes it gets uncomfortably hot while gaming.

I've done undervolt as well as under clock on Franco Kernel currently. I don't face any heating issue on heavy usage as well as under sun light conditions (high temperatures). If your device temperature goes above 50 degree centigrade, then you need to contact OnePlus, else it's normal.
If I undervolt - 75mv, I come across random reboot issues. I am on BlissPop with Franco Kernel. Environmental conditions do matter in keeping your device temperature to moderate level.

yea scarys my fav gov too, once i get this issue with the oddball devices worked out itl get better battery life cuz im gunna try and implement the UV that doomlords kernel has in v2, but yea id like to get it booting on all devices before i get into that
Response is great. On my evo I used to get certain kernels that would be unresponsive and buggy with touch. feels like the stock triumph kernel doesn't work too well with the rest of the os. This kernel flys

So is this kernel fully functioning? No known bugs?
Anyone noticed significant impact on battery life (good or bad)?

Depending on which governor you choose. Scary seems to really keep tabs on it well. I'm at 1900/245 and when I run Scary the battery doesn't run down at all. I'm not a fan of the performance though, as it is too slow to react sometimes. Still working on the others, so no solid opinions yet.

I don't see why you would underclock your phone that slow... 245 is way too slow for a phone made to run default at 1ghz. You'll have screen wake issues and uber response problems... duh.. I don't see why ppl turn their smartphones into expensive paperweights just so they can extend battery life. I'd rather have a phone that computes efficiently than one that doesn't even want to process. 600 MHz min is just fine.
Sent from my Triumph using Tapatalk
245 would be the minimum clock speed, not the maximum My guess is that when your phone is asleep, it would use as little resources as possible.

very hot !

hi, i'm running android revolution HD overclocked with faux kernel at 1510 and i noticed that my phone is getting warm each time i use it ( gps, internet, games). when i play games i goes to 48° celsius. I am a bit worry about it. I'm thinking about overheat maybe ? is that normal ? do u have the same temperature ?
(temperature at home 28°c)
Try underclocking it to like 1.3 GHz, whenever I do that my device cools down and I don't notice a drop in performance....

Thanks for your answer, that's what i tried yesterday night, temperature goes to 44° when i play Xplane 9 or 3d games .... it's a bit less than 48° but it's still a bit hot .... ?!
Overheat is at 50° isn't it ??
To my knowledge the faux kernel has heat problems. I know I can't use it or my phone gets too hot. Have you tried using a different kernel? Unity or Stock even?

I for one have not had heat issues with the Faux v0.1.0 kernel. Granted, I have not played many intense 3D games, but I have played N64oid with Super Mario 64 for roughly 15-20 minutes straight and haven't noticed any difference in phone temperature. If anything, this kernel, for me, performs better than the stock kernel in terms of temperature.
Could I be the lucky one? lol
hi everyone,
i have tested 2 differents ROM : android revolution from Mike and InsertCoin from baadnews and i just tried with stock kernel ... and guess what ? and my phone is still hot when i'm using it ... about 43°.
any idea ?

What is your goal with overclocking? Or you just hopping on the band wagon?

these problems happend for allot of people, just google it and you will see big result and i dont see any reaction from HTC!!!

Have you tried going back to stock with Odin?
Not sure if your issue is the same as mine, but after I went back to stock it seems to have corrected the issue. It still seems to warm up a little when I'm using it a lot (playing a game, looking at the LOL Droid app, but not, oddly, playing a video) but the battery issue seems to have been solved.
I know that using the phone is going to make the processor run faster, and that faster processor speeds can definitely contribute to heat build up. Do you have a case? If so, take it off. If not, maybe give the phone a break every now and then? I don't know.

[Q] why does the first day on fresh installed rom always have longest batterylife

I have been noticing a trend across all my devices: the first day on almost all roms is always the best in batterylife.
Usually people say let a rom settle(which I find bull**** cause it should work getgo optimized). I however found that first day, or first charge with all my apps and regular usage pattern battery is the best.
Does anyone know why that is and how I can switch off anything that stops this?

I notice that too.. But I think is just because the first day you install any ROM you haven't all the apps installed. The days after maybe you begin install new apps that start drain softly your battery..
- "let it settle" is total bs. never did any difference for me.
- having many apps doesnt mean less battery life.
greenify some fishy apps which are optimized badly or consume battery in standby.
soon people come up with "give ur phone fresh air" after installing.
srsly...
Its because when you install apps such as whatsapp or Facebook, they automatically startl in the background causing you cpu to work a little more which results in a slightly higher power draw. When you first install the apps on a brand new phone, it won't make that much of a difference but developers constantly update it which could increase CPU background usage without you even knowing.

yeah over time youre right, but I havent notices updates the next day. So I am not sure regarding the app updates.
In regard of them starting in background, they also do that on first charge, in fact they do a full sync as well.
Of course I wont be uninstalling and reinstalling to get that first day batterylife, but if its the apps, then they are really inefficient.

Just a couple random guys who helped convince you that you had a valid theory but in general the thread hasn't had any knowledgeable person participate probably cause it's pure placebo. You just had a random idea. I've personally never experienced it through numerous phones I've had and battery life is generally greater for me when I'm at home on WiFi or when I have good network so its a combination of factors.
I don't mean to offend you but answers aren't as easy to find as making a theory and finding people who agree. That's just confirmation bias and you're not getting good answers until the theory has really been evaluated in a number of scenarios and critiqued. To make matters worse you disproved it already while on Omnirom

not really disproved it. I noticed it on all android phones plus all roms.
Now I found a rom where deepsleep is legendary. I havent confirmed full charge cycle, sot and actual battery appart from deep sleep. It doesnt disprove my theory.
Fact others experience it makes it a fact for those experiencing it.
Just because you dont experience it doesnt make our experience less valid then your experience, respectively the reverse is also true.
This thread is about demythifying the experiences that are like mine.
So far no theory that you contributed explains our experiences, so please if you dont contribute towards solving, then dont say anything more.

Though I don't like greenify and prefer not to use ****ty apps like facebook at all,
which would explain why my battery life did not change a bit from kitkat to lollipop to marshmallow.
I never had issues with deep sleep or battery drain which was caused by apps.
Only time the drain increased (for everyone!) was when Google decided to **** us for months with their Play Services 7.5 Update.
They fixed it with 8.xx which was on the same level as 7.3.

I've just been using the standard camera that comes with the ROM which to me seems to work ok, also the zte camera from the stock ROM works pretty good too!
I liked ZTE camera too, but is it available and working for this rom? I installed one version that didn't worked well, lots of FC

Thank you, I'm really not happy with
The camera quality right now, and before giving up I have to try several apps.

Here's my copy of ZTE Camera, http://www.mediafire.com/download/3gdhkc1pkdwdzw8/zte_camera.zip
Ok, already downloaded and tried, no luck... Still not satisfied, too much noise on the photos, but I think I know what the problem is... I also have a LG G4, and the photos are superb, and comparing both phones is not really fair, but I'm forced to compare... But thanks for the camera app, going to keep it.
I've just flashed the rom and working perfect... Thanx man..
2 days edit;
just an issue for this rom, I got a little bit heated back near the camera. when screen is locked, it's 39 Celcius. but while I was using Whatsapp and Facebook I checked it in CPU-Z and around 55 Celcius. Is it normal?
...yes, I been noticing that too, I think that the kernel does not have any thermal control enabled by default, just go to Kernel Adiutor and enable the thermal option, enable Core Control only. It's pretty much just a guess, but I think it may solve the overheat problem... By default it doesn't seem to have any thermal control enabled, you have to manually enable it . The best way is to ask the developer, Nutsda, I'm pretty much just trying to get there...
Thermal control should be enabled by default, if it isn't then enable it using kernel auditor & yes it does seem to be normal, I was reading a while back that it is a issue with the chipset our phones use & other phones using the same chipset, to run hotter than most phones, sitting between 50 & 60 degrees in use. The only real way to lower the temp is to drastically reduce performance
True, it's pretty much confirmed, have done some research and this chipset caused heating problems to several smartphones, it's not even about the phone brand, it's pretty much about the Snapdragon 615. In my phone it easily gets 65.C, but it's not big deal, if it fries up Vodafone will have to give me another one.
can do a port of rom miui 8 or rom pac?
