Dash Micro.
My question, has anyone ever used one of these (on a phone that does NOT have an EXT SD Card slot) and successfully booted into recovery and flashed a file that was stored on the Dash Micro?! Just wondering bc this could truly be my saving grace! Thanks!
I haven't used a dash micro specifically, but have used an OTG cable + USB memory stick and saved a nandroid and also restored from it. Obviously, your device and recovery has to have OTG support but I think all the major recoveries have it now. Specifically I was using a Nexus 5 and TWRP recovery.

Pretty sure it'll be supported
Why are you so worried about?
The Samsung Galaxy S6 has been reported many times (Google it) that it supports USB OTG so yes the Dash Micro will work with it imho.
I personally ordered a competitor (read cheap Chinese) reader to be used with my next coming S6 Edge.
Doesn't it seem though that on this page that the connecting part would not fit into the S6??
There is the dash micro and an adapter to connect it to usb (on this page you cant see the micro usb connector from dash micro as its hidden in the thing to put it with keys.

Can anyone recommend a USB SDHC card reader that I can mount on my CM9 touchpad?
I've got the USB Y cable and can see the contents of USB sticks in Astro file manager, also managed to view the pictures on the memory card in my Olympus SLR camera. Unfortunately my other camera Canon compact camera doesn't support mass storage mode, so i want a SDHC USB card reader that i can plug into my touchpad to view the pictures on the memory card.
I've tried a couple of SDHC USB dongles and haven't been able to get them to work, i plug them in and nothing happens, no blinkning LEDs, no files showing in Astro.
So has anyone got this to work, if so can you post a link to the card reader you use?
Thanks!

Make sure you're file manager is set to show all/hidden files.
I use tiny Dane elec readers but any should work.
Make sure they are fat 32 format.

Yes it works
You need correct y and OTG cable and appropriate power source.
I managed to get astro to show the files on an USB Key, but when plugging 2 diff Card readers, and an SD card (fat32), although one of the adapters shows a led, USB storage remains empty under Astro...
any ideas?

I took a punt and bought another SD card reader from amazon and it worked!
In case anyone else is looking for the same thing it's called "Daffodil UCR03 Ultra Slim all-in-1 USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader" on amazon.co.uk. This reads my 8GB SDHC card fine. Cost me about £3.50.
Can't include a link as forum won't let me cos i'm a newbie.
Would this work with WebOS too? And does this need external power source such as a USB hub?
I'm a total noob at this and could use a for-dummies version of how to connect a USB SDHC card reader to the Touchpad (I only recently flashed CM9).
Specifically, I would appreciate if someone could point me towards the exact products I would need in order to set up a USB card reader for my TP. I assume that I will need (1) a USB card reader (such as the Daffodil product mentioned by obo789) and (2) a micro USB adapter of some sort so that I can connect the USB card reader to the TP (is this the "OTG Cable" mentioned)?
If so, is there a particular USB card reader and cable that people recommend?
Once I've obtained the necessary products, would I just D/L Astro File Manager from the App store? Would EZ File Manager also work?
Sorry for the noob questions. I searched this and other forums but could not find a definite answer.
All the details on how to connect are here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582771&highlight=otg
It just needed a 5 second search.
Thank you so much for the link. I kept searching for USB card readers and nothing came up (here and on other online forums). I didn't t think to search for USB OTG compatibility since, until last night, I had no idea what USB OTG meant.
Thank you again for your help and for pointing me in the right direction.
The two I got working were both double capped style, one cap for the SD card and another for the USB plug. One is branded Dane Elec IIRC and the other was a free promo item from Panasonic I got a while ago.

Hardware is one thing, I just purchased one of these 4-in-1 adapters linked in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31034220&postcount=35
But your issue may be software/OS related, also discussed in that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30952816&postcount=34
or better yet: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/33033-otg-usb-insufficient-available-bus-toolthingy/#entry921673
IMHO: you need the USB unmout utility presented there. Try it if your USB flash drives ot USB SD card readers don't work. You might just have a "insufficeint bus power" response, which the utility can correct. I can now read all my camera & camcorder SD cards from a USB interface that failed prior.

That should work and would have a lot less cable clutter than the original set up. With that all you would need is any microUSB charger to power it. There is also one for sale that has a male USB connection for power instead of a female micro USB. With this it would be easier to hook to one of those portable USB chargers that use a full size USB port.

=== Review of Juiced Systems ACA adapter ===
I got this: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Multi-functional-Connection-Kit-Compatible/dp/B006MJZOMW
It appears to be a USB OTG ACA compliant device. Sadly it's for Galaxy Nexus Products and the full ACA compatibility doesn't appear to be implemented in hardware and/or software on the Touchpad with CM9.
1- It does function as OTG host port with the Micro usb from a charger powering the down stream devices. :good:
2- OTG to devices on USB/microSD/SD interfaces works well, but only one at a time for memory volumes (FAT32). Not sure if that's a software shortcoming.
3- Success with a wireless adapter for Logitec mouse/keyboard on USB. :good:
4- Haven't found an NTFS mount solution for Touchpad w/ CM9 nightly 0903.
5- It does connect to the Touchpad, but not with the HP folio case or any case as it's a close fit.
6- The ACA charging of the touchpad while hosting, or otherwise, sadly doesn't work as it was reported to function on SG2.
7- ACA indicator never lights up for charging or host.
Initial Result:
- At $20USD there are fewer cables, but full ACA charging doesn't work, which was my motivation to spend more.
- OTG to devices on USB/microSD/SD interfaces works well, but only one at a time for memory volumes FAT32.
- The physical connection seems a little weak to me. I almost feel like it could break off damaging the adapter, or worst, the micro USB interface.
Further tests:
- I want to check if the Wirless mouse/keyboard on USB can be used with a SD card in either slot.
- I'd also like to test of external HUB with devices further downstream such as self powered HDD and seperate USB Mice, Keyboards (for deskside use).
- Can anyone recommend a ICS compliant USB GPS & app?
Although this setup with: Touchpad, USB battery, Juice adapter, is simple and elegant, its pricy for features I'm not able to use (charging while host). I'm not impressed it will be rugged enough for field use.
Here is my recommended portable solution, which is also cheaper:
- HP Touchpad
- Battery soulution of choice <<< $4.25USD
- OTG host cable & power Y combo: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-H...i9100-S3-i9300-i9220-i9250-XOOM-/140825132367 <<< $6USD
- USB memory / flash drive of choice
(or other USB device that is ICS compatible with HP Touchpad)
:victory:
Will do
Im getting the camera tomorrow and the cables and adapter should arrive soon!

Taken off the Meenova website:
Due to hardware and software limitations of many Android devices -- especially older ones, compatibility with devices not listed here can't be guaranteed.
Samsung: Galaxy S5, S4, S3, S2, S4 Active, Note 3, Note 2, Note, Mega; Galaxy Tab S
Judging from that I would say you'd be perfectly fine, and common sense was telling me before looking it up that you'd be fine.
I can't think of a single modern device that doesn't support OTG, and all OTG devices pretty much work the same.
The only question is whether it supports NTFS or not, but hey... Just format the MicroSD card with FAT32 and you won't have any worries at all.
My recommendation: Go for it :highfive:

It should work for storage sizes up to 2TB. If the S6 can't power a HD over OTG cable, you can get a special OTG cable that lets you add the necessary power from another source.
Hi,
Just a suggestion here, instead of doing it manually by using card and card reader you can do it on the fly you can use sidesync app or smart switch or any other app.
Just install on both phones fire it up on both phones and choose send. It will show you a list of all the content by type and category! Choose whatever you want move and hit send and now on the receiving phone click receive and it'll either create or ask you to join a network u can connect it on send phone by choosing the receiving phone in the "found connection within the app. You will see it start sending files and on the other they'll start coming in. I it is pretty fast too. I have about 40 gigs on my extra and around 20 in internal loads of mp3 which didn't take long. you can check it out. there's even an app by Jio called Jio Switch which does the same. No more downtime and no attachments needed?.
Works!!! I use mine through a SANDISK Wireless USB Flashdrive-(it has a micro-SD slot) out through an OTG & it has been performing flawlessly! You should have no problems with it, but I would make sure it's formated to ExFat or ExFat32 just to make sure it reads....
Figured I'd share a neat little USB drive that I've been using for past devices and seems to work swell for the S6. This here is the product:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-conne...446218&sr=1-1&keywords=sandisk+dual+usb+drive
Super light weight, transfer speeds are swift, and this drive even "locks" into your phone-port so the connection is super secure. I can upload some pictures to a gallery if anyone is interested as well. I use it over an OTG+USB any day.
This is off-topic, but I had just plugged in my spare PC HDD via OTG and it did in fact properly mount. WIth 500GB I don't think missing an SD card is a problem at all...

Does it work to do nandroid recovery?
It is a good tip to use these little drives as they have gotten very cheap. I store quite a bit of music on one that I have and it works great. I do use BSPlayer because it will recognize an OTG drive.
Regarding @sachs question, yes you can use one for Nandroids. Just be sure that you can mount it in TWRP.
or you could just buy an otg to usb cable and use nearly everything (also a usb hub for more devices)
https://www.amazon.com/Rankie-3-Pack-Female-Converter-Adapter/dp/B00YOX4JU6
i even used mymouse, keyboard and external hdds on my phone, but it would be better if it's formatted in fat32 or exfat and not ntfs.
OTG to USB is better.
This flash drive might not fir properly if you have a case on your phone
Just a trick, don't buy this.
The little plastic thing that let you move the port between USB-A and µUSB-B breaks easily and you must use a knife to force the thing to move
I've got one of these and I keep it handy for flashing, file transfers, all sorts.
The pictures don't do it justice. The micro USB side sticks out further than it looks. Fits all my phone's in cases with ease.
Currently have a UAG on my S6...
I have one of these. Nandroid backup works. Only problem is, the metal clip can break off. I got this to replace it:

That's because your phone has to read and write from flash at the same time. My OTG cable and USB 3.0 drive i've had for 2 years os still faster than backing up internally also. But I agree, the T3 would probably super tots.

I just took another pass at getting my 6P to work with my exFAT-formatted T3, and this time around (Android 7.1.2) saw multiple paths to success.
Firstly, this time, when I plugged in my device, the system presented a notification, which led to a dialog asking if I wanted to "format the device for mobile data storage" – which would have meant reformatting to FAT32. Not what I wanted, but pretty cool that it was an option and I didn't have to go digging.
Secondly, a quick googling turned up a third-party app that will mount exFAT volumes. It's called Paragon exFAT/NTSF (I don't have permission to post urls here yet). I had to pay $5 for exFAT support, and it wanted Total Commander (free) to browse and operate on the files.
Anyone know of any good adaptors similar to the OTG which would allow to connect USB memory sticks via the USB-C port.

I havent used them but some companies are making flash drive with usb c and usb a if all you want it for is a flash drive you can get a flash drive that works without an adapter
Be careful of hard adapters, they (Ha Ha, YOU) will break themselves or your port
Edit, these may not be OTG also. Yet similar OTG 90* adapters have similar drawbacks/ benefits.
There are 2 like this on Amazon.

I am going to get this soon.
This right angle horizontal, is not yet reviewed, but a sister item with right angle (up) is.
Frys usually stocks this style in micro, maybe a C version is there?
I have used one! The one I use works only with USB flash drives that are fat32 format! The brand of mine is belkin and I bought it from best buy!
Very nice to use this for watching movies and not having to use up storage on the device.
Only drawback is that the usb-c port does not allow you to use wired headphones at the same time! So, I had to go wireless Bluetooth headset!

Curious question. Since this is one of the first phones where the add-on option comes into play (mods), couldnt one devise an external ssd drive moto mod? Either that or one of those all-in-one adapter mods where i can plug in older tech? Im always skeptical about destroying the one & only port on the phone anyway.
In case anyone only wants flash storage I purchased the Sandisk Dual ultra and it works great, usb c and a usb a connector.
Also only have to carry one thing as opposed to two. I bought mine with 128gb storage, preformatted to fat32, was simply plug and play.
