Sounds like the OTA zip might be corrupt. Have you tried redownloading it? Also, you're using stock recovery, correct?

Its because your phone is rooted and custom recovery is installed, it doesn't play well with official lollipop update. Unroot device and revert to stock recovery then try to install the lollipop update again.

i know how to unroot but how do i revert my phone back to stock recovery?

If asked nicely:

I don't understand that

Download the stock ROM for your phone. Extract the recovery.img file.
If you are using a Windows machine, boot the phone into fastboot mode, install fastboot drivers, connect phone, open a command prompt, type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", press the enter key, disconnect phone, boot into recovery using the phone's volume buttons.

From where?
And how do I get the recovery in file
Sent from my XT1033 using XDA Free mobile app

Search for your ROM here: http://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27/?sort=filename&order=ASC&show=100&page=1
See my post above for the fastboot command to flash recovery.

I don't have a modified rom

I thought you had a modified ROM because the title of your post is "E:signature verification failed installation aborted cwm moto g 2013".
CWM is a custom recovery and wouldn't be part of a stock ROM.

I installed it manually using rom Manager

and it is downloading the update now

it always shows this

Are you using a custom recovery to install the OTA update? You need to be on a completely stock ROM to install the OTA update.

how do I do that

signature verification failed when trying to flash rom

I rooted my sidekick with SuperOneClick. I downloaded glorious overdose v2 to the root of my sd card. when I go into the stock recovery (which is blue), I clear my data and cache. the only other option to flash the rom is 'reinstall packages.' So I click it and I get an error message saying
'E: failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.'
Did I do something wrong?
You need to put cwm recovery on your phone, and then when you reinstall packages, you will go to cwm, then you can flash the rom.

Use the search bar and read the forum.
FYI: Installing from that app won't work.

I've used search and still can't figure it out. Rooting

I rooted my Captivate but got the
e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
error in CWR.
I tried Odin 3v1.85 and when I put the phone into download mode, Odin has 1 yellow box with 0 comm 9.
Rooting with Super1 click still gives me
e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
I tried 3e_recovery to fix the 3e error.
I want to flash a ROM but an stuck on how to successfully root the device.
Running stock Froyo 2.2 Kernal version 2.6.32.9
What am I doing wrong?
You could download a Froyo kernel with root, and then flash it with Odin. Your root and recovery problems will be solved...
here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
OP...use TRusselo's Guide linked by -SGA-. There is no need to get Root first in order to flash a Rom.
That guide is up to date and is all u need to follow to get to a custom Rom.

[Q] E:signature verification failed -- in System Recovery

I tried to run CWM in System Recovery but everytime I try to install a ZIP file I get:
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I read over several posts on this subject but cannot figure it out.
I have:
Samsung Infuse
Gingerbread - installed after I had bricked my phone - UCLB3_Unbrick_root_1.1.zip
My Android Recovery Menu is blue - <3e>
When in my phone, I can run Terminal and get a Linux prompt - so I assume that means its rooted.
Wanting to get CWM.zip installed so I can go on to installing ICS and then on to JB.
Any ideas on how to get passed this roadblock?
Thanks
Carl

[Q] Having trouble flashing 5.0

So I am running 4.4.4 and want to flash 5.0.
I had xposed installed, but I uninstalled it to try the update. The only system files I changed was the "Volume Boost", which I also reverted back to stock for the update. Once I boot into my custom recovery (TWRP) and try to flash the 5.0 update, it fails:
Code:
Updating partition details...
Installing '/sdcard/Download/c1a33561be84a8a6a7...
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
mount: failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_...
Package expects build fingerprint of google/ham...
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcar...

You have to use the stock recovery and adb sideload the ota. I'd flash the system, boot, cache, and recovery images from 4.4.4. Then sideload the ota zip
