OK...First I have a surface RT.. It is a colleges tablet as I am a network admin at a telecom company..
I have never seen anything other than the surface logo with no "spinning wheel"
I have tried the 3 reboots, booting normally on the 4th...volume up and power for days .....the keyboard boot options (backspace, win key +everything, F8, F11 for the hell of it..) I tried holding down in different sequences every possible combination with power, volume up/down and the windows soft key (onthe tablet)
I have created USB's with a kingston 16GB, a sandisk 8GB, sandisk cruzer 16GB, a USB3 128GB, and a micro 32GB card in a USB adapter. I extrated 2 different zip files to them all after formatting fat32, using diskpart to make the part active. both oft these compressed files were from microsoft that I downloaded after registering the device.
I tried formatting the sticks with a USB format tool as opposed to win 8. I tried 2 other compressed recovery images I found elsewhere. Furthermore I I attempted 2 different ISO files and 2 different IMG fliles using rufus, usbit, and universal USB installer...both 8.0 and 8.1 recovery images/ISO's/ZIPS. At first I observed the access light on the USB Drives blink once right after booting but now no light at all...for the hell of it I even tried to connect it to a win 8.1 machine via 2 different USB-USB cables I had.
Please advise if there are any other options?? and do you want me to post the video of me smashing this POS in this thread?
thank you for your time...
Just to make sure, the bootable USB drives were GPT partition scheme formatted, right?
Go to a Microsoft store. Seems like a hardware defect if you cannot boot off of a USB stick.
Ok no expert here. I just bought a used SP2 I5-4300u and downloaded Ms recovery disk. One USB I made would not boot on the tablet.. another would only get to 70-80% quit. The last one just an old usb2 8g and it worked flawless.
I have a usb3 and it works on 3 computers at home.. it will NOT boot on this tablet where others will. So it might just be your usb nothing else.. maybe

Has anyone found a fix to this yet?

there is a usb hookup.. so the question is raised, in my mind, can you hook up an external hard drive and thus rendering the 13gb a non issue (at least in the area of video/audio files).
anyone had experience with this?
I've been able to use my flash usb thumb drives without any problems, however when I plugged my WD 1Tb storage drive into the GTab, used ES File explorer to open usbdisk folder but did not see any files listed.
If you want to use a external usb hard drive for movies/files it has to be formated fat32 and it will work.
I have connected with 16gb, 32gb, 64gb and a 500gb Western Digital HD (usb powered). All work fine, but best to NOT remove the USB until the G is placed in sleep mode. There appears to be an unmounting issue that also blows up the app index. Apps can vanish and then not appear again until rebooting.
Archos 101 seems to have a similar issue, so maybe Froyo related.

Yeah, I try to put mine to sleep before I pull out my thumb drive as well, but sometimes I forget and as soon as I yank it, the tablet reboots. Ugh!
I bought a 500gb Seagate the same night I got my tablet (been needing a portable hd for a while). It wouldn't work on either the tablet or my PS3. Definitely a format thing. As mentioned earlier, it needs to be formatted Fat32.
Just an FYI, formatting a big hd to Fat32 isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. Windows 7 won't do Fat32 and 95 has a size limit (32 gb maybe?). HP has a program you get download from their site. It works on any make, not just their's. If anyone needs it, I still have it on my PC at home.

What is the app called? Work with Vista? I tried formatting a 1gb HD to Fat32 via DOS commands, but failed.
As far as USB, main issue for removing while G is asleep (besides random reboots) is that removing while awake seems to be a main reason apps vanish until a reboot.
If I need to format a big, big hard drive to FAT32, I'll boot up a Linux LiveCD (usually Ubuntu or Knoppix) and use gParted to do it.

This is a different site but I think it is the same program. One of the comments said it didn't work on Vista business but YMMV. Worth a try.

I went and checked my reformatted portable drive a few minutes ago and the tablet doesn't recognize it. It actually says there are no files in that directory. The drive is working on my pc and PS3. I put a small 4 gb stick in the tablet and it read it fine.
Any ideas?
It recognized my Ipod 120GB classic in disk mode. It also appears to be hot swappedable.

It is hardware wise. Software wise, depending on ROM, it can crash your tablet. I try to put it to sleep before pulling my flash drive out. If not, sometimes it will go black and I'll see the boot animation.
I went to the link above looking for the Fat32 > 32 gig tool and it was not available.
If you need this tool, Google for "HP SP27608" and there are a few places where you can download it. HP didn't even have it on their FTP server -- don't know why they have quit offering it?!

Hi,
Sorry for the late post, but I just got around to trying a bunch of my USB flash drives, and Gtab doesn't see any of them ...
The LED on the drives flashes for a second, then goes off.
Do I have to mount it or something?
Jim
same problem here too. Is there a way to mount a USB drive without formatting? I do not want to loose my collection.
I've never had an issue with my Flash drives (VEGAn or TnT Lite). Are the drives formatted to FAT32?
I have had an issue with a 32GB USB flash drive not showing up on the gtab. I plugged it into my win7. Machine, moved files off, formatted fat, put files back on and it worked fine in the tab.
Another note, using vegan, I never sleep the device to get the drive out. Just wait a second and Yank it. Never been an issue for me.
I have noticed that my flash drives don't mount 100% of the time and sometimes require dis/reconnecting. Also I have a 1tb wd my passport. I formatted the whole drive fat32 and the gtab wouldn't see it. I then formatted just a partition of 120gb in fat32.....still no dice. I then reduced the partition to 32gb nd the gtab sees/reads/writes no problem.
I'm wondering how that other Guy got his 500gb to mount....
I'd like to know how folks have been able to get their external hard drives recognized as well. I have tried stock and tnt lite roms. Also tried several different hard disks all formated fat32. Even repartioned disks to 8GB and still no joy. Flash drives I own all work OK. Just can't use hard disk as yet. Even tried new rom image that came out today, no luck. Am I missing or not doing something?
The usb port does not supply enough power for external hard drives. I tried several and they did not show up in dmesg. When I used one with external power, the drive was seen and the partitions, but was not mounted.

I've noticed that when my G2X is plugged into my computer the bios will hang before it even starts to load drives until I unplug my phone. So far this has only affected one of my computers (Cr-48 Flashed with Insyde bios).

I've noticed this with my Nexus S and Galaxy S II. Its probably just an overall Android issue. Its minor though.

This is probably because you are mounted as a USB Mass storage device and BIOS is trying to determine if it can boot off the USB device. Turn off USB booting in BIOS might fix it.

That was my first thought, and although usb storage is disabled by default I made sure it was not mounted (along with debugging just in case). I also noticed it will even hang if I plug it in while in the bios settings, and it will capture input but it won't apply it until my phone is removed.

Yup happens with 90% of computers with 100% of Android phones. I believe it might be due to the running debugging mode. Try turning it off and seeing if it boots properly.
Try Boot Order
Hi Gang,
If you BIOS isn't complete garbage (and most of them are, but not necessarily in this way) you should be able to enable or disable booting off USB mass storage devices and or modifying your boot order putting:
1. CD-ROM
2. Primary Hard Drive and that should skip right over your
3. USB Mass Storage Device (cell phone).
I would suggest modifying your phone's primary and SD partitions to not be active which might also tell your BIOS not try to boot it, but my guess is then android won't boot on your phone either and that's a whole lot bigger of a problem.
Thanks,
Christian Blackburn
I think I have your answer.
If you have a Phoenix-Award Bios this is common. If not, try and look for a setting close to what I describe. It may still fix it.
Go into your Bios settings when you boot.
Under Boot Options or Advanced Bios Features menu look for a setting called "Boot other devices." Disable it. Reboot with the phone plugged in.
If this doesn't work also try disabling "FDD devices" or "FDD controller" or "Floppy drive" under the Integrated Peripherals menu. If there is a setting for "Boot up Floppy seek" anywhere disable that too. Try booting again.
Explanation:
Sorry I was not more specific but every Bios is a little different.
Basically, most people think this setting enables booting from a USB drive but, when disabled, USB and external drives boot just fine! I believe it's related to LAN booting instead. Basically the Bios is seeking boot commands where it shouldn't (your phone.)
Also, if you don't have a floppy drive, floppy settings are useless. The bios looks for anything even emulating a floppy drive. Causes annoyances.
This problem drove me nuts for a long time. Sometimes a mouse or wifi card even prevented it from booting. My old laptop did the same thing. I was thrilled to find the evil little culprit ("Boot Other Devices.")
Hope this helps you!
*Note: do not disable settings related to "removable devices" or "USB devices" They are not the same thing even though they sound like it. This would disable booting from external drives.
This also happens on some Dell laptops (especially the Latitude line). Even worse, there is no option to turn off USB booting on mine, it will hang even if a lowly USB thumb drive is plugged in. Unfortunately, the solution for me is to avoid having any such drives plugged in at boot time.
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but the bios I spoke of above is on a Dell. It's not the USB devices option. It's called "Boot Other Devices." My USB devices still boot after disabling that other option.
I can stick anything in my USB ports now and no boot problems. This happened on 2 computers.
Hi guys,
I've got a bricked Windows RT, unfortunately i can't seem to make it boot via USB.
Steps i did
1. Diskpart my USB thumb drive (formatted to fat32) - i tried 2 different usbs
2. Copied Windows RT iso (normal copy and paste using windows explorer). to USB thumb drive
I have the following structure in the parent location:
-boot
-efi
-resource
-bootmgr.efi
-reagent.xml
Today size is 3.71 GB. Also, i have 2 different sets of Windows RT recovery image, one US version the other UK
3. Plugged it in the machine, held Volumn down and pressend power button.
4. I get the Surface logo, but nothing happens. My USB disk doesnt even light up so it doesnt look like RT is accessing it.
Am I missing a crucial step? Is there anything else i need to do to make my USB drive bootable?
Really appreciate your feedback, i've been going nuts for over a week.

Hi guys. Help greatly appreciated.
I bought a Cenovo MiniPC from Gearbest 2 months ago and from day 1 I've been getting blue screen errors. I immediately reported this to Gearbest and as you can imagine with the time difference between here (Sweden) and there (China) I was getting slow responses. Cut a long story short they 1st offered me a $20 refund from a $90 device, I accepted at the time as the errors have not appeared for over a week and thought it could be the end of it. 2 weeks after this the errors came back and it wasn't just blue screen on startup but it would freeze up during a session. I again reported this demanding for a full refund and they refused. I opened a dispute with PayPal and after a while they offered me a further $20 which I refused, they then sent me an email and said if I close the dispute they will give me a full refund. I was hesitant whether this was a scam but I went along with it and to their word I got a refund 3 days later.
After I got my refund I thought I may as well try and fix it myself now so I started in BIOS and fiddled with some switches for the emmc, one was 'secure erase', I don't know what was going through my head or what I thought the outcome would be but I enabled it and restarted. Now it just boots into BIOS and I am guessing the reason is that the emmc is now blank.
So ive now got a minipc with a blank emmc, I have loaded a bootable copy of Windows 10 setup to a usb and forced a usb boot in the bios but nothing happens.
I have opened the case to look for a emmc card I can take out and put in my laptop to reformat with an os but I couldn't find anything, there was a metal grill on one side that looks like it is hiding stuff and it is impossible to lift the grill off.
There is a tf card reader on the side so i am thinking that I can extract a Android image onto the card and boot from the card but I am not sure how and whether it will work.
Can i get some assistance in this please.
James
Hello, I've got same problem, 0xc000025 error code, arrived my tentative to upgrade the PC to Windows 10 (the PC arrived with 8.1 installed)
No way to boot my USB in the bios. Have you solved? Someone can help?
try and format the usb stick to 4k sectors before using the win10 media creator, think that's how i did it
Thank you for replying and sorry for the late response.
Have you got the same mini pc?
How do you format stick into 4k sectors? What format did you use (Fat32,NTFS...)?
fat32, in windows format dialog box its "allocation unit size" set to 4096
to boot from usb the stick has to be recognised as bootable before u can run the bios command to override boot device
yep i figured it out thanks. ive now got another problem and this is totally my fault if it cant be fixed...
in bios i unchecked the option to use integrated graphics so now when i boot i see nothing

Does anybody know how to reset the bios, because I've disabled the usb ( stupid x 10000 ) and I cannot use the usb ports (mouse and keyboard)
same problem here... I've disabled xhci support and no USB right now. The problem is that removing the battery does not make the bios to default.
I've still got the issue with no picture. I need to reset the bios but not sure how. Or maybe I can connect it to my laptop and get it working from there
yo. just got myself a cenovo mini pc 2, and it runs windows 10, but it's not legit. That bothers me, so I want to run android or linux. You guys mention that it's running a BIOS, but i think perhaps the mini pc 2 is running non-BIOS/EFI, because there's no preboot screen, and USB drives don't boot up at all.
Hi !
Did anyone got a chance at installing another os ?
I have a Cenovo mini pc 2 and I had troubles with sound. I had no issue for a week or two and then (maybe windows update, who knows) the sound would switch to the speakers output instead of the hdmi one. (it was plugged on my tv) so I decided (stupidly) to uninstall the audio components with the hope that windows would redetect and reinstall them with better drivers. Well, that didn't work and now in my device manager are two unknown components which don't work and I have no sound at all. If anyone found the global drivers for the device, or could make me a screenshot of their devices panel...
In the meantime I would probably try my luck to install openelec or kodibuntu on it but I couldn't manage to boot on bios. Did anyone tried using the Advanced startup option of windows 10 ?

I know the problem as I disabled the onboard graphics in bios... I know **** head move.
I have tried to remove the lead leading from the bios to the motherboard in hopes it will reset it but nothing.
Is there anything I can do from USB do you think? Such as flash a new bios.

I have a Cenovo Mini PC 2 with 2GB/32GB. BIOS/EFI/set-up is accessed via pressing F2 after boot. Sometimes it will accept the F2 request, sometimes not. Not sure if this is an issue related to the keypress timing after boot being critical, or the unit being generally fussy (maybe selection of which of the 4 + 1 USB sockets for keyboard is critical?). Only wandered around the BIOS settings a few times but there was all manner of Android-specific options available.
Strangely, when the F2 key is accepted, a message is flashed briefly on the screen saying "Esc key pressed" or similar, as if the "Esc" key was the BIOS access key.
The NexBox T11 InsydeH20 UEFI / BIOS / set-up options are near identical to the Cenovo Mini PC 2. There is a video walkthough of the Netbox T11 Setup Utility although it does not mention the very first screen and options seen when F2 is pressed. The Cenovo Mini PC 2 very first screen titled "First Page" can be viewed at

I initially had issues attempting USB boot of Macrium Reflect with my Cenovo Mini PC 2. Eventually solved by one or more amendments of changing brand of USB stick, using Rufus to generate the bootable USB stick via formatting to FAT32 with 4096 bytes cluster size, and disabling fast UEFI in settings. USB stick was inserted into the Mini PC 2 and UEFI / BIOS was accessed by pressing F2 immediately after boot. From the first setting screen, "Boot Manager" was selected and the USB device was visible and able to be highlighted to boot from.

Graphics drivers for cenovo pc mini 1
I Had all the issues which is in this thread so i took the steps as follows it came with windows 10 dual booting android when i looked on the partitions it was a joke several all using up space i entered bios disabled secure emmc created a windows 8.1 32 bit usb boot disk using rufus selecting gpt also fat 32 16k sectors , it worked once i entered install i delete those partitions all of them until i had a single 32 gig partition which i installed a clean windows 8.1 leaving me 20 gigs after install now the problem i have like a idiot i forgot to take a note of the device id vendor etc of the display which does not even appear in the basic adaptor tree in device manager ,, i have tried several drivers but none worked the website who made this device needs a good slap, no drivers no support but a nice device with much potential and why lock the bios to 32bit? what is wrong with these people in the mean time
if anyone has the drivers for this device please share them i would be grateful and if needed i can make a guide on how to turn this little device in to a full windows computer its locked on windows 8 in the bios and most settings in the bios is locked to but i have obtained bios editor tools for this american trends i will give it a try later once i have full gpu control the rest i do not care as it will be used with bluetooth but intel hd drivers or the device if would be appreciated
Kind Regards
My s22 ultra suddenly does not work on dex. Theres no way to access the sd via a pc either.
I was using this exact setup and it worked fabulously.
As far as i know i went to bed one night and it didnt work the next time i went to use dex.
Reboot phone and pc? Is the phone recognised when connected? Try another cable, does it work on a different pc. Do other USB devices connect ok etc etc
i have rebooted both phone and pc. Same cable as when it did work infact the samsung original that came with the s22. My s9+ does not connect. Both phones DO charge via usb c.
I have infact reinstalled my pc and resest my phone to factory trying to fix this.
Still to no avail.
Does it connect to another pc? Usb pc hub might have failed
its a brand new laptop and it does power the phones. and it all did work fine. i can even power my usb c vape through the same port
there is not an alternative machine to test on
actually i just thaught of this, the last night i was using it i had the standard popup on my phone asking to allow dex to run. An ok responce and cancel or not now responce, i dont remember exactly.
Could this have done something if i hit cancel
also could there be something in the pc bios i may have not realized could effect this. Since i was on the same night trying to boot to a usb linux pendrive
When you connect your phone can you access its files on your pc? Is it recognised as drive
Ok so ive even reset the bios to system defaults and tried a regular usb to usb-c and still nothing

Absolutely everything else works through usb mate.
What else can you access via USB. Drives, devices?
well i can access the standard usb port with an sd card reader. read write and even installed windows off it. So this usb to usb c should work fine.
If it were just the usb c hub blown this would not be the case.

im currently trying to see if i can run a lubuntu through usb bootable key and try to access the usb c ports from that.
I have been reading about my laptop and apparently it has a reputation of usb issues. lenovo x1 yoga gen 2 on win 10
Solved. During a bios update it appears the bios setting for thunderbolt usb-c was changed to disabled. As soon as i discovered this and rebooted it worked so if anyone is having issues with this they may want to check there bios settings.
4 days of struggling over. Dang its nice to beat a computer once in a while.

Do you have Link to Windows enabled on your phone? If so, turn it off and try running DeX.
