So I was messing around with my tablet after not using it for a while and noticed the wifi was HORRIBLY slow. I mean, 2 mb/s at BEST. My internet connection maxes out at 20+ so this is less than 10% of my wifi's speed.
I did just flash a cyanogenmod rom to it a month or two back so I figured I'd just try another one. SAME PROBLEM. I flashed a nightly, SAME PROBLEM. I flashed Xenogenesis. SAME PROBLEM!
So I had flashed the tablet a few times now, so it needed a charge. I was doing some research and decided to test the wifi again, while it was charging. The wifi was nice and fast again! I was getting 15-20 mb down and 2-3 up. So, thinking I fixed it through GOD knows what process, I went back to messing around with the tablet in the other room. SLOW WIFI AGAIN!
I read to try enabling performance mode, messing with advanced Wifi settings like turning Wifi optimization off, turning Network Notification off, wiping cache, reflashing. I stopped at offering up my cats to the internet gods because I'm not sure that this is a software problem anymore. The tablet is ~2+ years old. Should I just resign it to media consumption and forget ever using wifi again?
I just upgraded my router from a Netgear N600 to an Asus AC1750. No other devices really have an issue with the wifi.
If changes in software don't fix it, and only the charging cable will fix the slow wifi, could I have a bad battery that doesn't give enough voltage anymore? Is there an app where I can give more power to the wifi?

I have noticed this with EVERY ROM I used in the past, and I am still noticing it now. When I Wifi tether (I think it is when I WiFi tether for a long time) the EV connection drops, reconnects, then tries to send/receive data, fails to do so, then drops again. This happens until I turn airplane mode on and then off. Most of the time, this doesn't even work. Yes, I do have USB debugging on. In case you are wondering, I am running Cellular South 2.1 "DangerRom 2.1" with a few mods (Just removed GSD.apk) anyone know what to do to fix this?

Anyone?
I can't really say I've experienced this...not sure..

I'm suddenly experiencing it. Investigation would be really nice, if anyone is willing to help. But mine is using mns. PRi 2.11_02 or whatever it is, from DC 1.1b5, and RegawMOD 2.1t is the rom I use.
Not sure if it would have anything to do with it, but try to see if it has anything to do with the amount of bandwidth you are using on it when it happens. I know CS doesn't usually mess with anyone tethering, but if your using a significant amount of bandwidth, they might be pushing your data off the network for a minute.
Reason being because I have noticed that the phone MUST have some kind of throttling going on when it's data just to the phone (how many times have you waited for youtube to start and then it has to sit and cache in the middle of the video) Yet, if I tether I get up to 6mbps, and can stream video like crazy. At the same time if I connect my phone via wifi, (to my 6mbps dsl) I get the good speeds and streaming, etc. Just my 2cents.
I was thinking it was a carrier security measure as well. Sometimes, I can turn on airplane mode and the problem is fixed (for a little while at least). Another thing, It will not just drop once and then reconnect. It will keep dropping and reconnecting every 3 or 4 seconds until I stop tethering for a little while. I also noticed that, when I experience this problem, I can use the internet on my phone with no problem, but once I try to tether, it starts messing up again. Maybe we can find a way to trick the network/ROM from knowing its tethering? I don't know.
Edit: "I have noticed that the phone MUST have some kind of throttling going on when it's data just to the phone" What do you mean by "throttling"?
My wifi connection is not very stable. Keeps on disconnecting.
I heard this is a known problem for theb g2x. Are any of u experiencing this issue? And or know how to fix this?
Is tmobile gonna do an update fix for this?

I've experienced wifi issues myself. Wifi was working flawlessly the first week i had the phone but now it seems as though it does not want to connect to any network -__- it just says 'error'
Not sure if i had something to do with it acting up, maybe i downloaded an app that caused it to act up.. idk
No definite word if the upcoming gb update will fix this issue but i sure hope it will!
sometimes simply rebooting your router can fix this. of all the wifi threads i've seen, i never saw anyone mention this. but like i said, it will sometimes fix it.
After leaving my phone idle for 15+ minutes, I'll lose wifi. Simple fix is to disable/enable wifi. LG knows of this problem and will release a fix on the next update. http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/general/lg/topics/g2x-wifi-problems
Now others are having a different type of wifi issue where it won't connect at all, I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software issue.
I'm having the exact same issue. Wifi will be connected, then after a period of time the connection gets disabled. It's quite annoying, as I often do not notice it for a while, after I have already gobbled up a bunch of 4G bandwidth.
I fixed this problem with G2xFixWi-Fi from the market.
Just 4 clicks and it is done.
two separate wifi problems with the g2x
it's good that your wifi problem was fixed with the G2xFixWi-Fi app. but that only fixes the dns problem.
there is another wifi problem where if the phone is in idle for a while and you wake it up, you see from the indicators at top there is no wifi icon and that it is trying to connect 4g but doesn't succeed. the 4g icon flashes on briefly and disappears. it keeps on doing this every second until i manually turn off wifi. then it connects to 4g. from what i can deduce, if i don't turn off wifi before putting it in idle, it does this as well after the phone is in idle for a while. i'm not sure how long after the screen switches off that this looping process happens, but give it 2 hours and i feel that the back of the phone is really warm. i'm thinking that it's warm because it is constantly in this loop. this may also be the source of the massive battery drain that some are seeing.
if i manually turn off wifi before putting it in idle, this doesn't happen. so that's my solution for the time being. i heard about using tasker to automote toggling wifi on/off as the screen is on/off. and it seemed to work at first. but after an overnight test, i found out that the phone response time is sluggish and unpredictable, to the point where i had to have perfect timing just to unlock the phone from idle. rebooting the phone didn't resolve the sluggish response problem, but uninstalling tasker did the trick. so now, it's back to manually turning off wifi before putting it in idle.
another solution proposed is to set wifi to never sleep in the settings. the last time i tried it, it didn't work for me. but i'll try it again to see if it'll work this time.
setting wifi to never sleep did not help
nope. i changed my wifi settings to never sleep and the wifi disconnection problem still happens.
When my phone was stock I had problems with Wi-Fi when it was simultaneously trying to run 2G or 4G. Since then I have switched to various ROMs and Wi-Fi is rock solid. I do use Juice Defender which turns it on and off when screen is off and I'm not running a short list of programs like Pandora. It also reliably switches on when I arrive home.
My G2X won't connect to every WiFi network, and there are a few it cannot even find. I was in a cafe the other day and my friend's laptop and Nokia connected to its WiFi network and my G2X could not even find it... (( So, the problem is, some networks it recognizes but does not connect to (it sticks to "obtaining internet IP..." and then disconnects) and some it cannot even recognize. But to most networks it connects no problem (my home included)... What could be the problem? Can anyone help me?

If you have not messed with the ROM and are having this problem - try TMo tech support first, then ask for a replacement if not fixed.
I have had excellent WiFi performance with stock ROM and EB Froyo's and GB (with and without kernels) - WiFi always worked OK. Could be bad unit - it should work!
My wifi has worked flawlessly, but I think it may depend on the router. I recently bought a wifi repeater to use on the other side of my house and when I connect to that, the G2x will disconnect from wifi after about 15 minutes of idle time, like previous posts have said. I switch back to my regular router and it never disconnects.
I have also notice the problem to.

I am experiencing this same issue. My phone is rooted with no roms. This just started happening within the last week. Does anyone know of a fix for this yet besides possibly factory resetting?

This sounds like normal behavior honestly. What is your wifi sleep policy set to? By default the wifi radio turns off when the screen is turned off and then turns back on when the screen turns on.
G2X CM7
Thanks for responding. I have it set to "when screen turns off." The weird thing is I never noticed it do the little switcheroo before. Also, I have Juice Plotter just for fun and it used to show wifi for most of the night when I'm sleeping and the phone is charging. And now it shows APN during that time. I guess it was messing up before and now it's doing what it's supposed to.
Can you enlighten me on a myth, I heard that the wifi consumes less power than the APN or 4G. Is this true or false?
Thanks again

With a LTE or Wimax phone, I think so. With a phone using hspa+, I don't think so.
Did you try.
Did you set it like I do, WI-FI never sleep. Because where I live
T-MOBIL had no cell service. Well, Very spotty coverage.
Also check how many people in you're neighborhood are on your same channel. And change yours.
Look in mark there's a free APP that's a WI-FI analyzer.
And change to one

My wifi is acting weird. It does a loop whenever i have a WPA/WPA2 settings on my home wifi but works when i have it disabled. :S It was alright with stock froyo and stock GB i uploaded from LG. then i flashed Xboarders OTA 1.2.2 GB and this happens.
Can any1 give an insight how to fix this ? =(
im having the same problem, i bought the g2x the day it came out (when it had froyo before gingerbread came out) and never had a problem leaving my wifi on 24/7 it wasnt until the update for gingerbread came out that this problem started happening, it really sucks for me since im using my g2x as an AT&T phone for now all i get is 2g speeds
---------- Post added at 04:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:35 AM ----------
also something i tried and worked was turn wifi off, turn off your phone and turn it back on then go to menu>settings> wireless & network>wi-fi settings>check connect to wifi and check connect to wifi that worked for me (holding the phone in landscape mode (horizontally) ) i add that in because one time i was turing the wifi on in that order it didnt work i dropped my phone and picked it back up in landscape mode and wifi was connected. im not sure if anything i said helped anyone at all but hope i didnt waste anyones time
Anyone found their Chacha disables it's WiFi on it's own? Mine has done it twice to my knowledge. The first time I assumed it was down to the power saving kicking in, but today, the battery had 60+% remaining and it cut off after about 10 hours.
I've had numerous Android handsets, from 1.5 thru to 2.2 and none of them disabled WiFi. The router is in the room directly below where the phone is, so signal strength is not an issue. The BB9700 that was also in the room at the same time still has it's connection.
On a different note, disabling FB chat and having a good signal (via Femtocell) seems to have improved battery performance. Still have 50% battery after 12 hours and about 30mins of calls and FB/twitter, with WiFi on for 10 hours and tracesaver app, which uses GPS and uploads data on phone usage.
Will do a firmware upgrade, as I'm on 1.15 right now, but there are more bugs in this phone than I've seen on any other Android handset. Like the form factor, but the honeymoon period is coming to an end. Moto FIRE could be a suitable replacement, but I've not had a good history with Moto.
When you say disabling wifi, do you mean wifi turns off? Or you get disconnected from your router?
I have had issues where I will get disconnected from a router before.
Software version 1.15 is waay old, try updating to 1.57 here

You may need a goldcard (modified sdcard) to run this update, there's an easy tutorial how to make a goldcard here: theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
Hope that helps
Mine turns itself on by itself I am pretty sure its an app doing it but not found which yet

So the wife and I have each had a Xoom FE since late October, last night my Xoom began having issues staying connected to wifi. I thought it might be an issue with our alarm system, that afternoon a wireless alarm monitor was added so we could do away with our home phone. The wife brought her Xoom into the bedroom and hers works fine, so I moved into the pc room to test it and with direct line of sight and full signal I still can't stay connected. I turned on the mobile hotspot on my phone and connected to it on my Xoom and surfed the web just fine.
I've always had issues with both of them initially connecting upon waking from sleep, but simply turning wifi off/on fixes it and it stays connected until the next time it sleeps for any amount of time more than 30 minutes. This was different, it would connect, start to load a page, lag lag lag, load a little more, lag lag lag, load a little more, maybe load entirely or give an error about connectivity. Again, wifes sitting right next to me in the same room, same network works fine.
I don't believe it's an issue with my Xoom, I haven't rooted or installed any new updates or programs. It was working fine one night and then the next night it's having connectivity issues. My wifes works fine on the same network with the same settings. My Xoom will connect to my cell phones mobile hotspot. I will try my Xoom at another location soon to see how it likes other wireless networks but as it will connect to my phones I don't think it will be a problem elsewhere.
Cliff notes: My Xoom doesn't want to play with my wireless router anymore but my wifes still works.
And last night it was back to working fine. I shut it off for the night after having the issues and re-started it last night around 8pm and it worked like it always has, so I don't know what was causing the issues but it seems to have fixed itself.
I had a similar issue with my rooted Xoom on the latest Tiamat GB release. I tries reflashing and few times with the same issues. I've now upgraded to the ICS beta roms and not only is the WiFi working, but its better then ever with much better reception. I wish I knew what the original issue was though.
mine was doing that the other night, but only when i had the charger plugged in.
worked fine every time i unplugged it...
All I did was go to the android market and found a actual wifi widget and always had it turned on. It works flawlessly. Hope that works if nothing else.

Sometimes these things happen, if it's working fine now I wouldn't think anything of it. These are just like computers, they need to be restarted every now and then. I wish my Xoom FE would work. I can't get my wifi to work for crap no matter what I do.
I recently started using my N5 phone and when I first got it everything on the phone was fine and pretty fast. However, recently, my WiFI has been going very slow. When I'm on my data, the phone moves pretty fast online, but when I turn on the WiFI, especially internet pages take so long to load sometimes. Any suggestions on a fix or what the problem is? Thanks.
Also, I recently wiped the phone completely and started from scratch and the problem is still there. The problem is not the router as other devices work fine on it. Also, I'm on stock 5.0.1. Thanks.
I am having that problem too! Even my 3G network is faster than my WiFi...
Is it just the Wi-Fi on your phone that's slow? Maybe a coincidence, but my Wi-Fi was crazy slow early today/yesterday and I only noticed it on my phone because I want using anything else at the time. Turns out comcast did some updates that required power cycling modem and router. Just a shot in the dark if you guys use comcast.
Oh man thanks. This fixed it right up and my wifi on my phone is back to the fast speeds I was used to.
How could I do this please I have the same kind of problem
I am pretty much struggling
Happens on my Nexus 5 occasionally, but not as much as Moto X 2014 on the same network. That phone can almost never leave its WiFi on during sleep its annoying, rebooting the router doesn't seem to make much difference.
