Will Multiwindow have the floating option like on the Note 4? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Its one of my favorite features on the Note 4.
Cause things are pointing at only the split window multitasking
Or maybe it can be activated with some tinkering

Yes, there was a hands on video which showed the "bubble" style multitasking on the S6. If i find the video again, I'll link it here.

Adding Some or Unlimited Multiwindow Apps

While trying to port the pre-release Note 8 firmware on my Note N7000, I was able to try and tinker with the Note 8 features specially the Multiwindow feature which is similar to Note 1, Note 2 and SGS3. There are several options to add Multiwindow Apps to the multiwindow tray, specially if your device is rooted. And if you are not rooted, your only hope is to modify the apps' android manifest file or wait for some devs to mod the apps for you.
********************************************************************************************************************************
Let's start with ROOTED devices.
Option 1: Use Multiwindow Manager app from the Play Store or visit this THREAD for discussions on on issues and how to enable some or all apps. When installing the app, it will ask you to patch the FlashBarService.apk but just choose never option. The patch is only for Note1, Note2 and Sgs3 devices as they don't have the necessary code to read the CSC Multiwindow addon apps.
Option 2: This is actually how the App referred to in option 1 enables or disables apps for multiwindows. In the /system/csc folder, there is a file named feature.xml or other.xml. You can directly edit this file to add more multiwindow apps. I have an earlier NOTE 10.1 THREAD for this. You can visit my thread to know how it works and how to manually do what the Multiwindow Manager app does with ease.
Option 3: Install Xposed Framework and install Multiwindow module. This will give you unlimited multiwindow apps. You can find the related thread HERE and HERE to download the latest versions of said apps.
Option 4: To enable unlimited apps, FlashBarService.apk and services.jar must be modded which will have to wait for now due to absence of deodexed custom roms to be modded. And if you want to mod the said files, then you can find a GUIDE here.
*********************************************************************************************************************************
Now for NON-ROOTED devices, there is only one option I know of. This option is also applicable for rooted devices. To enable apps, the apps' AndroidManifest.xml file must be modified. A guide is available HERE along with some modded apps already.
*********************************************************************************************************************************
Please THANK the respective devs who have brought you these tools/apps/guides. The only way for these mods/guides/tools to keep coming is if there are generous devs who are willing to donate some of their free time, effort and work to this community. At least show your appreciation or encouragement.
DISCLAMER: As I don't have this device, I have not tested it but it does work on my ported Note 8 rom on my Note N7000. I am not responsible for any damage this tools may do. Please use at your own risk.
I did option 1, it does work. I was able to add several new apps to the Multiwindow menu.
However, something weird's happening. When I try to launch the second app, it no longer is able to set itself as a resizable column. Now its just a square "popup" style window, and isn't movable or resizable after I drop it on the screen. Anyone else see this behavior?
As a sidenote, I also switched my LCD Density to 170 beforehand as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243262

How did you do option 1? When I try to set it up I i get a popup that flashbarservices needs to modified but the following option does not have the note 8.0 in the device list. Did you chose another device from that list?

No patch needed for option 1, just install the app and when prompted for the model just cancel.

Worked fine for me. I used option 1 and did not apply the modification.
Edit: Just bought pro to show my support to the developer and I enabled fat restart which was a pro feature. It gave me a popping up error which looped. Just an fyi.

Yep plus one. Did option one and didn't do the patch. Seems to work for all my apps so far.
Do these options give you the pop up window like Note 10.1 or just uses the Multiview side by side? Did they not do pop up natievly due to screen size?

Nope no pop-up. They are side to side and adjustable. I am sure the size had something to do with it.
That's a bit of a shame, I just saw the pop up windows, that'd be useful.
Hey, I used option 1 and it works perfectly fine to add multiwindow apps.
Note 8 unrooted Multiwindow
I bought Galaxy note 8 (WIFI+3G) , I need to keep the device none rooted to benefit from my company application which don't work on rooted devices for security reasons.
I tried option 2, but couldn't find any of "featuers.xml" or "others.xml" --> Would appreciate if you can guide me on the new location of the file or the new name.
Thanks

dumb question from a dummie... what's the level of effort to get popup support on all apps? I'm using the Popup Browser app from another thread (I believe its ported from the Note 10.1, but not sure), and Popup Note itself seem to work.
Would this be a mod? A new rom? Just curious.
Nevermind, found it! Looks like someone added to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243142&page=2 with the info a few days ago. Didn't notice before I posted.

What kind of custom features do you want for your Galaxy S4?

Well considering we have a good month to actually play with our phones before any real custom development begins, we could use this time to come up with ideas that would be great to have on custom ROM's specifically for the Galaxy S4. I myself believe the next two years are gonna be insane and month is nothing compared to the fun we are all about to have!
So let's hear, what do you want your GS4 to do that it can't do right now. I personally would like to see someone make use of air wave more effectively and air view.
I just want some SlimBean love.
4.2.2. Stock. That's all I want.
I want to be able to change themes on my phone with EASE!
Mass delete of the 14.7 million crapware apps that come pre-installed....
just to be able to mod the hell out of it battery, clock, wifi, themes etc.....have kick ass kernal with kick ass battery life...
Cyanogen.
a lag reduction of 290%
I'm going to be developing a slimmed down Touchwiz rom with an AOSP feel but keep the TW framework for camera and other misc features. Samsung does add quite a few software enhancements that are nice to have that AOSP will break.

This is what I can't wait for
Ongoing Wifi Notification removed and change the Phone dialer from the playskool looking white to dark theme. Other than that I am happy with TW till we get AOSP...:highfive:

Exactly what I was hoping for. There's no point in buying a phone with so many "exclusive features" and immediately flashing CM and having the exact same user experience you had on your last phone. I mean, do I love AOSP? Of course I do. But why not try to get the best of both worlds? Can't wait for it, akira!

I am generally happy with my S4. Screen is great, the features I am interested in, Navigation, Translation (sTranslate), tethering ( I am on the plan), Bluetooth, and many others working. I am waiting until my 2 week return period is over before rooting and then debloating. I am using Nova launcher and have had no problems with lag. I did find that the home button with the smaller lower bezel than my SIII sometimes causes me to hit one of the dock icons; will require getting used to. Here is what I don't like and would like to see change:
1.The phone dialer. the white is awful
2. Contacts. Also in white, awful
3. Battery icon. Would love to be able to change it.
4. I personally like the 4.1 lockscreen with weather and time. I installed dashclock and used that a one of my Lockscreen widgets but still am not happy. I would love to see the opportunity to change the lockscreen style and type.
I am sure that I will find others, but that is it for now.
All Samsung features with the look & customization of AOKP, PA, Rootbox or Xylon.
idea of the year right here
and i can't believe it wasn't implemented by samsung and shown off at all the demos..
almost every website on the net today incorporates hovering the mouse to expand menus, show list options, features, toggle content, etc
this i would argue is THE biggest shortcoming of not just android, but all mobility today. there's no solid solution to imitate this on a mobile phone.
the galaxy s4 is the first phone which can overcome this shortcoming with its ability to support scree hovering. but what did Samsung choose to implement instead? a zoom in option baked into their stock browser .. which they removed flash support for, crippling one of the biggest breakthroughs in mobile innovation we've seen yet.
any developer who implements this will make front page of xda for sure

Extended desktop mode, the status bar takes up to much screen real estate. Pie controls love them on my nexus 4!
Id love to be able to re-map the double-click of the home button. More options to edit toggles. No need to have that many toggles Im never going to use. Dark themes throughout UI. More apps that can be utilized in Multi window. Using the calculator with the browser or banking apps for example. Swipe the status bar for brightness control, no need to have the slider taking up space in the notification drawer. Swipe between tabs on phone app, same in any other tabbed touchwiz apps. Let me use Wallet dammit!
Love the idea of AOSP/touchwiz mashup. There actually are some features Id like to keep. Too bad Samsung's design team is still stuck on Gingerbread aesthetics...
Remote
A cool feature would be a timed t.v. remote to go off say at 6:30 to wake me up for school
Some PA love would be ideal! DPI changes are necessary with this awesome screen! Plus PIE and Halo would be awesome to have! Oh and remapping of hw buttons is a must for me.

New MultiWindow/MultiTask Concept

Hey guys,
First, I really have no clue in which section I should post this, so I just took the General Section. Please move it, if there is a better one =)
Now what I want to talk about:
Multitask is a huge topic on Android devices, and there are several approaches how to handle this best. MultiWindow, Halo and QSlide/SlideAside are the most popular ones in this list to mention.
However, I think this feature is not perfect yet, so I just made a MultiWindow/MultiTask concept for myself.
I don't really think that this is possible to make. But, if there would be a crazy dev who wants to develope this further and create such a feature, I would really kiss his feet
So let's begin:
First, I would consider the Galaxy S4 as the best device for such an App. You will see later why. (Btw, Someone here who knows the mail address of Samsung? Then I could suggest them my concept^^)
What we start with is a simple picture of a running app (don't kill me for the pics, I just made them in Paint.net. But nevertheless I tried to make it good enough to understand what I am talking about.)
Here we are inside the Facebook App with S-Multi (that's how I just called it) enabled. There would be some kind of button/hotspot on the right bottom corner of the screen. If you type it once, a list with S-Multi supported Apps will open
Now you have the option to just select one App (it would open in a normal fullscreen Popup that is like Halo), or you can drag and drop it in one of four slots, or you can multiselect two up to four apps (hold buttons). As you can imagine, this means you can run maximum four apps at the same time. and that would basically looks like that:
Now you have your mainapp on the top and three other running apps on the bottom. To have the mainapp alone on the screen, just swype over the three apps on the bottom from left to right to hide them (and the other way round to show them again.)
With the Minibar (the three bottom apps) open, you have several possibilities.
1. If you type one of the slots once, it will open as a floating window (resizable, free movable)
2. If you type one slot twice, this app will open in fullwindow (minibar hidden)
3. You can drag and drop the slots to whichever position you want it (mainapp or three bottomslots)
4. If you hover you finger over one slot, a preview will popup. That would need Airview Support (Galaxy S4) Alternatively for devices without Airview you could hold the slot for a preview
Now let's begin to make it real multitask. If you have one App in S-Multi in Fullscreen, just hover (hold) your finger over (on) the hotspot to show a preview of all your apps currently opened in S-Multi:
Hover with your finger to the app you want to select while in this view (I will not mention the hold option any longer, but this is still present because it probably won't be able to include airview in a non Samsung app that soon, you know why)
However, this is not the mainidea of the Multitask. here you can generally see which app is in which slot without opening the minibar.
But the main feature would make use of the gesture sensor. And as I know there are several apps that bring these gestures to many non Samsung devices, it would be possible to make use of it.
So if you have Facebook opened in the midslot (which is actually the bottomslot) and whatsapp in the right slot, just swype from right to left over the sensor and the apps will switch. If Facebook is in the upperslot and whatsapp in the bottomslot just swype from the the button to the top direction:
Keep in mind that the apps would hold there slot positions. That means, if Facebook is in the top slot, Whatsapp in the bottom one and another app in the left one, if you would swype down from the other app to whatsapp, you don't get back to the app by swyping up, because then you would get into Facebook. The next pic shows better what I mean:
That's basically the Multitask.
(As an additional Samsung Feature, there could be also the possibility to open two apps aside as in normal multiwindow)
But, it could be more than that: A notification tool.
So if you recieve a notification by any app, a chathead could open and the hotspot of S-Multi would blink:
Now there a several possibilities:
a. Swype from right to left over the hotspot and choose the blinking slot (that's where the app will be open) S-Multi would make a chronic to restore the app that was in that slot once you close the app that caused the notification
b. Touch the chathead directly to open the app in a popup
c. Hover over the hotspot and then choose the blinking slot to open it in fullscreen.
Soo, that would be my concept for a cool Multitask feature =) It would make use of airview and airgesture in a much more sensible way then it currently does on the s4. And at least the airgesture is possible on more than just samsung devices. And I don't think that four running apps is to much. Current devices have 2gb ram, and i never saw my s4 use more than 1,3 of it. And at the end of this year and next year there will be devices with 3gb ram or even 4gb, so I think a better multitasking is a must be now.
So it would be cool if you tell me what you think about my idea and maybe give suggestions to make it better. I personally like it, but maybe it is totally bull**** and I just don't see it at the moment. However, I am not a dev and I will never be able to create stuff like that, but maybe it can be a proposal for one of the talented devs around here =).
A nice day to all of you
xPr0.
Edit: Btw, sorry for writing swipe with an y all the time -.-* I just recognized that it must be an i. Very embarrassing :X
That's a good idea, but I think that actually exist some apps that do the same things you said.
I support your idea!

Yep, indeed, there are some apps that do parts of this. There are some apps with floating windows, but with very few (and not really usable apps), and there are some notification apps. And there is an app called "Portal", that comes really near to what Halo on Paranoid does, but here too, there are just few apps supported.
This is the general problem. All these apps that are non-native (not made from the phone company, no official feature) are inevitably restricted. At least, they need root to convey an intimation of what would be possible if the devs would know the source codes. That's why I don't think Airview or Multiwindow will that soon part of non-native apps, unless a very very brilliant dev can crack them. Or unless the companies will make their source codes open source, but why should they do so, as this would affect their profit in a bad way if everyone can use their features to build new apps.
I agree, that is a good idea.
But I've read in a german article, that CM had a ready multi tasking feature for their roms, which has been forbidden from Google. The reason was that Samsung wanted to be the only one with that feature.
In my opinion, the Samsung MultiWindow feature ist a good thing, but if Google combines it with the Apple like switching of Tasks, its really Good.
There is an App called GMD Gesturecontrol, which makes it possible to switch between Apps like you do it on iPads...

Well, honestly, I don't think that Samsung's Multiwindow is that practical on Mobile Devices. It's just good on tablets. And there it is much more variable with the dual view and the cascade view.
Edit: I just tested the GMD Gesturecontrol app, but this app proves what made me think it's better to use the gestures sensor. It is much too complicated to use 4 fingers to swype. I just laughed when I heard SlideAside on G2 uses 3 fingers, now theres an app with 4 to 5 finger gestures. lol

Yes, 4 fingers is too complicated. Also, there is an app (I forgot the name, sorry) that use proximity sensor to do some actions, like, swipe your hands left, without touch the phone, and an app will be open.
It's for free and XDA made an article talking about this app.

You can change the gestures in GMD, that u can control it with one finger. Just need to get into settings....
There are many apps that can be usefull with Multiwindows. While you navigate in the car, you can simultaneously choose the music you want to play. Or browse in twitter while you have whatsapp open. In my opinion its practical, if you have a large screen, maybe 4,8"+

[APP] Galaxy Icon Themer - Add Icon Pack Support to TouchWiz

Hello Friends,
Just dropped by to share my app GALAXY ICON THEMER. As the name implies it is an icon themer for rooted Samsung Galaxy devices on TouchWiz ROMs. It would seem that some Samsung Galaxy devices have native built-in Icon Pack Theming support since Jelly Bean as discovered by @M_J_Nazari although supported icon packs are limited (barely exist) as it does not support popular icon packs from the Play Store. Curiously, I wondered if it was possible to enable support for Play Store icon packs (ADW, Nova, Apex, Go, Solo, etc.) and so with some testing, I was able to do so and made this app for convenience as the manual process would take like forever.
This is a beta release so expect some bugs/issues.
SUPPORTED DEVICES: most Samsung Galaxy devices on ROOTED TouchWiz ROMs {JellyBean 4.1.2 and above including Kitkat} although not sure which devices has complete native built-in theming engine/framework/code. The theming engine may be different between devices so there may be issues/problems to consider. This app has nothing to do with the way the theming engine works or coded.
DOWNLOAD below. Install. Install some icon packs from the Play Store (most icon packs but not all). Run the app, grant supersu permission and go De-TouchWizise your stock launcher. Effect for icon theming is ALMOST systemwide. Effect on stock launcher needs no reboot, just a launcher restart which is done by the app itself. Effect systemwide needs at least a soft reboot. ENJOY.
GET the PRO version - offers per app icon theming with ability to pick icons from gallery or custom icon sets.
I would appreciate feedback/suggestions.

Lazy Swipe - Like Pie Controls for Note 4

I found this app yesterday, and I love it.
It is like pie controls for your unrooted Note 4.
One hand, one swipe access to recent tasks and people, favorite apps and toggles.
It works flawlessly and looks cool as well. Check it out. It's free.
Lazy swipe, ONE HAND and ONE SWIPE,do whatever you want!
Slide out the "Lazy Swipe" from your screen's left or right bottom corner in any situation, you could:
1. Find and open your most frequently used applications without any settings;
2. Find and open your newly installed or recently used application, no longer need to scrolling in your many application list;
3. Switch on and off the commonly used general settings, such as wifi, bluetooth, flashlight etc...
Since this is my first post, I can't post the link to the Play Store for it, or a review of it that led me to it in the first place, but it's "Lazy Swipe".
Loving it! Thanks!

Super super slow app
I have tried it on z1 compact running cm12.
They changed the name to Omni Swipe. About to try it now.
EDIT: I'm loving this app. I don't even flip screens much anymore. Very easy to use. Thanks.
you know pie launcher can be ran on stock phones now too
so you dont need to be root just sayin
Has anyone using Omni Swipe been having any network issues when trying to download a theme through the app settings? Lately, every time I try to download my favorite theme, or search for a new one, it keeps telling me there's something wrong with my network when everything else is working fine. All I want to do is reapply the 'Hola Awakens' theme I have on my Tab 3, which is also having the same network issue using the same app, but I can't find the install location for Omni. If I could find it, I could probably just copy the theme there. Anyway, the rest of the app works fine, aside from that pesky network thing. Any thoughts?
