When will the Gs6 be launched in u.s. - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

after april 1st.. most likely around the 10th, but better off checking with your carrier as it will vary.

I heard the 10th of April

Whatever the date was in the Samsung reveal presentation on March 1st. Or it will be very very soon after that.

The question we need to ask is what storage options will the US Carriers offer? Will Verizon screw theirs over an only offer 32GB or what about AT&T, will they even go up to 32/64GB and will both skip 128GB. If I can't get 128GB I see no reason in getting it, with no microSD which was the excuse carrier stores told idiot customers not to worry about a 16GB phone, well 32GB is no longer an acceptable minimum storage when its officially up to 128GB now.

This things use to be late

April 10th in Canada.
Confirmed by carrier. Have a Black S6 128gb reserved.
US major carriers will have at least Black and White in all three storage options at launch.

That's what Samsung said during the March 12 or whatever event. 20 Countries or something April 10th and then the rest to follow around the world.

Hey guys
Not to post another thread I will ask here hopefully that someone can answer such question.
I am visiting Canada for business in May (I am from Russia) and wanted to buy the S6 or S6E. Is it possible for a non-Canadian and non-American to do so? The unlocked phone without a contract I mean.
Thanks

You would also need to make sure the network bands would match up between Canada and Russia. It would be unfortunate to pay $$$ for the device in Canada, and then have a device that can't connect to the cell network in your home country.

Yeah sure, we have some of the bands that matching. Actually some online shops sell here Canadian phones for that reason (so called "grey" import) but thanks for advise anyway!

Looks like samsung is doing the regional radio models thing again.
Make sure you check the bands/frequencies for where you'll be using it. They may not match up.
Otherwise you should be fine. If not at a carrier store then at bestbuy or futureshop maybe.

Currently, Samsung fanatics can only get their hands on a demo of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in a limited number of locales, including Canada.

Buying Unlocked Nexus 5

Hey All,
I live outside US where Google Play Store does not sell Nexus products.
I am planing to visit US in the coming weeks, and i am looking for a place (store) where i can buy an Unlocked (Off-Contract) Nexus 5.
Any info/suggestion is appreciated.
EDIT: I guess the appropriate word is Off-Contract Nexus 5.
And I read somewhere that Sprint - T-Mobile and BestBuy are selling Off-Contract Nexus 5 for $449.99.
So the actual question became; If i buy and Off-Contract Nexus 5 from one these sellers, can i just use it with any carrier available in my country. (Neglecting the difference between US and ROW version, since all i need is 3G for now.)
Thanks.

As far as I know they're all unlocked, even when purchased from one of the carriers, but I think you'll get hosed on the price buying from anyone other than Google.
Every single Nexus 5 (or any Nexus in fact) is unlocked. No matter where you get it from. It's just the price that pays for the convenience. You can get one outright from a carrier and say you already have a (insert that carrier's name here) SIM that you'll pop in when you get home. However carriers will charge you ridiculously more then 349/399 for the phone. You can try finding one used that somebody already received, or if you're staying long enough, order one from Google.

If you life in europe I cant recommed buying it from the US because not all that many people know that that there are actually 2 variants of the Nexus 5, one for non-US markets and one for the US. The difference are the 4G bands you wont have LTE with the american version in other parts of the world.

Actually my country (Turkey) does not have 4G yet, it is expected to arrive through the end of 2014. Also people expect the price to be around 800$ in my country. And LG G2 is being sold for around 700$ which puts me in dilemma. I still want the Nexus 5, but i don't think i can stay enough in US to order from Google, and i guess stores like BestBuy don't sell Nexus 5 without carriers.
Could we see non-carrier versions of Nexus 5 in stores in the near future, or would it only be Google keep providing them?
Can buy nexus 5 from Google, carriers or sim free 3rd party in uk
There are no "carrier versions". Theres a US version and a ROW version, both unlocked. That's it

Yes, assuming there are GSM carriers where you are. :good: (GSM carriers use sim cards)
If you're willing to wait, you could have one of your US friends buy the Nexus for you and then ship it over when it arrives. You might not want to wait that long (understandably,) but I just can't justify paying an extra $100 for a phone due to corporate greed.
Bought mine from T-Dimension on Ebay. Very happy with my purchase!

Right, but the main problem is that i don't think the customs would let the device in. In my country it is forbidden to ship things that cost more than $100, and if they catch it, they are likely to seize the device or just send it back.

Anyone in canada willing to pick one up from me from sasktel?

Need to get my hands on the Moto X Play. Anyone able to get one from sasktel in canada? They seem to be the cheapest out there with the option to buy the device outright from a store.
Please let me know asap
Thanks guys and gals!
You might want to hold on there. From what I've read, all the Canadian devices are network locked...

from what I gather, your best bet for acquiring a USA GSM compatible and unlocked Moto X Play is to go with one from Brazil with model number XT1536. The question now is how to get one from that country and not pay too much extra fees for it. On a side note, I noticed all the Canadian carriers seem to carry the 16GB model only. i know memory is expandable but i'd prefer more onboard storage due to faster read/write access plus better memory chips used vs. your typical microsd card.
They're carrier locked but from what a Bell representative told me, you can pay them 50 (unlocking fee) and then you can unlock the phone yourself / other people to get it to work outside the carrier.

Hey thanks for the heads up man. i thought the brazilian one was also compatible but wanted to see if canada was easier. If it unlocked from brazil it may be a better buy.
Real problem is that conversion really sucks... $300 usd for the one from canada and $400 usd for the one from brazil

If you want- I can get you the one from Canada- I noticed you were in NYC which isn't too far from where I am- it is $449+tax CAD + $50 unlocking fee + whatever shipping would be to you.
Let me know! I had to go through so much trouble to get one even though I'm already in Canada already ahha- but no regrets at all! Awesome phone.

Does the Sasktel one come with the Turbo Charger? I saw an article on MobileSyrup that mentioned Koodo is one of two carriers that includes the turbo charger, but didn't see anything more.
Here in Alberta there's no sales tax, so getting it from Koodo may not be a bad idea (if they'll sell outright). I'm considering buying one, but only if I can get it outright.

S7 unlocked

I was wondering about retailers in the US that will sell the S7 unlocked from day 1 that aren't resellers on amazon/ebay. I know BestBuy sells unlocked phones now but I believe some of them are overpriced, and amazon/ebay resellers sometimes aren't trustworthy so I really don't want to deal with that extra hassle. Plus I need to buy it unlocked cause I'd like to try it for a couple weeks and sell it if I don't like it very much.

PhoneArena claims availability from the following:
AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular stores, Best Buy, Car Toys, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target and Walmart
If I'm not mistaken Best Buy is also available in Canada so maybe there. However Best Buy doesn't seem to be offering the S7 unlocked atm.

I don't think best buy Canada sells unlocked phones but I could be wrong... I'm on public mobile (telus) so I'll try to buy from telus or kodoo
I would love an unlocked one in a Canada also, but not holding my breath for that. I just assume Samsung will make us go through the carrier.
Now will Bell let me by one outright? That's what I'm wondering.

I read on Android Authority if I'm not mistaken the Samsung won't be selling unlocked phones directly.
DAMN! $899 from the carriers for the 32GB non-Edge.
I don't know if I can shell out over $1000 (with tax) for a carrier locked phone that gets OS updates 6 months late. Disappointed I won't be getting a new toy.
in canada we dont see unlocked phones because the big three dont like it. like the nexus 5 was sold unlocked for 399 and at fido for 500. (not sure about the price)
we are really screwed right now in canada. exchange rate is so bad. i think the S7 will be 249-299 on contract and the S7 plus 120$ more.
I called the Samsung store at Sherway Gardens in Toronto. The guy said, they DO sell unlocked phones. They are taking pre-orders and you have to go to the store for a deposit. It also comes with the free VR headset!
Certainly good news if you live close to a Samsung store. I wasn't expecting this.
So can I safely assume updates should hit these faster than carrier phones since they are straight from Samsung?

That's really lucky for you. I already asked BB about the unlocked version, they hinted it might be available when the phone is released but definitely not available for preorder meaning unless it's a carrier phone no way to take advantage of the preorder bonus, unfortunately there's no local Samsung store down here. If you do go and preorder the unlocked version at a Samsung Store, mind getting the prices for us please? (s7 and s7 edge).
Had an unlocked Note 5 from the Samsung store. I don't see why they would stop selling unlocked phones.

Where to purchase the S7 unlocked?

I'm looking to purchase the S7 at full price without any catch. I was looking into T-Mobile but need to purchase a plan with the phone and needs to be activated for 40 days for them to unlock it.
Apparently US Cellular has the lowest price currently; are they known to lock bootloaders? I use Cricket so I only need a phone that uses AT&T network if I can't sim unlock it.
Cricket has finally added a banner to their website for the S7. No details yet if they will have them on launch day or not, price should be the same as anywhere. https://www.cricketwireless.com/samsung-galaxy-s7.html

May want to read everything carefully and make sure you know what you're getting into. I really wanted to do this as well. I hate the ATT bloatware. But I think there'll still be a way to have your free Gear VR even if you don't cancel your pre-order, otherwise it would be a shame !

That's bizarre why put it from pre-order now.

Yeaa that's strange, no idea...
I think this is a US only promotion. We in Europe are getting screwed.
The Swedish press release for the S8 even mentioned that the Gear VR will be arriving later this year, and not with the phone.

Too right we are, we pay the same money (more probably) and we get no such promotion in Europe (UK for me) That's extremely annoying. On the plus side we should be able to unlock our bootloaders. It's a very expensive phone. I'll have to pay £50 up front and £52 per month for the S8 Plus if I want more than a few GB of data. Might just buy it instead.

Yeah I also canceled my preorder and placed a new one which was a good opportunity to also change the color to the gray which I think looks better than complete black and also changing my delivery address

Snapdragon version has been historically boot loader locked and hence very minimal development
Sent from my Nexus 6P
Last year in Germany pre-orders got the VR for free as well. But I haven't heard of any promotion for the S8. I'll just wait a few more days, I guess they'll offer something for sure.
Ok guys, I just had a live chat session with one of Samsung France employee
When I asked him/her why there is no such offer in Europe, he/she said that it might come later, in a few days or in a few weeks, and people who already pre-order the S8 will still be able to enjoy this offer by providing a proof or purchase.
He/she said that I can also wait for the April 28 before purchasing the phone, but that I might not have the advantages I would have had if I had pre-order the phone. (which means there are advantages ^^)
He/she also said that it happens with other Samsung products : The offers comes later but the first buyers can enjoy it anyway.
Maybe he/she had no idea what he/she was talking about, or maybe he/she couldn't reveal any detail, I don't know. But anyway, I think it's safe to pre-order now, and if there is any offer later we'll be able to enjoy it
So the question is WHY do they do that ? why do they wait before revealing such offers ? And I think the answer is quite simple.
I guess they directly offer Gear VR and other items in some markets like the US one or in China because there is more competition between brands. I mean, in the US there are like 40% of iOS phone and the rest is Android. In China, there are many chinese brands selling awesome cheap phones. So Samsung wants to fight in these lands, where there really is competition. In Europe, Android and Samsung dominates everything. So in Europe, people will pre-order the S8 with or without free Gear VR. But in China and USA, free Gear VR and the other advantages are a real selling point. In these countries, they might have more pre-order with this strategy. But in Europe, a free Gear VR will probably not change much the sellings. If they offer a Gear VR later in a few weeks, maybe less than 20% of the prevous buyers will enjoy this offer and get their free Gear VR (in Europe), so Samsung saves money like this ^^
This was BigBen strategy analysis :')

All previous snapdragon samsung phones had a locked bootloader so no development at all. Exynos had all the development.

I actually ordered at Carphone Warehouse first, for some unknown reason I was declined by Vodafone even though I have good credit. So I took my upgrade via Three instead. I get no gift and it arrives later than other networks but I couldn't be bothered to go through the hassle again. Lol. 2 min call and done. I'm getting 12GB Data for 55 per month and no upfront payment. S8 Plus. What deal did you get? It's one hell of an expensive phone.
