[Q] In-call mic mute toggle via Xperia Z3 camera button? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I am a business user and spend about 4-5 hours a day on conference calls. During these calls, I frequently have to go on mute when others are speaking, especially if I am in transit or at home, and I need to screen out background noise.
With regular touchscreen phones (Samsung, Apple), the mic mute button is a soft key. So, to hit it, I have to wake the screen, bring up the call screen, and then mute or unmute. This takes several seconds, especially if I am taking notes or making a coffee or holding a baby. Additionally, there is a corporate password policy (strong password, 10 char), and this makes it infinitely longer to unlock the phone. With my old Nokia e71, there used to be a hardware button in between the volume keys that I could just press to toggle mic mute during a call, regardless of what I was doing on the phone. I could be writing an SMS or using the Web browser, but I could still press this hardware button to toggle mic mute. For a business user, it delivered massive value.
Now, the current breed of touchscreen phones lack many hardware buttons that could be 'remapped' to provide the utility of mic mute toggle. But I am wondering if the camera button on the Xperia Z3, which seems like an excellent device overall, can be repurposed for in-call mute mic toggle through an app, or perhaps the feature could be added in after rooting.
Does anyone know if this is already possible? Or if it can be achieved in a reasonably direct manner?
(The question is primarily for regular voice calls through my phone service provider, but secondarily applies to VoIP calls via Skype, etc.)
Thanks
frood

Android hard buttons can be remapped. It usually requires rooting your device and maybe even installing the xposed framework.
Rooting the device usually goes against corporate policy.

Lifehacker has an article back from 2013. Hope it's still useful:

Using Smartskey to Enable Speaker On in a Call

Hi All,
Is there a way to edit Smartskey to allow using one of the hardware buttons to trigger the Speaker On/Off option?
Thanks!
Speakerphone?
It's already hardware button binded to press and hold green call button, during a call. Handy in the car when your bluetooth headset needs a charge, quick press the green button to answer, then immediately press and hold to switch to speaker.
Or do you mean use the speaker for other purposes?

Tried it on my ETEN X500 and it places the call on hold instead.
In addition I'd like to be able to switch to speakerphone whenever, meaning
When I receive a call or place a call myself.
Not sure about Eten phone, but HTC's phone (most if not all), you will have to press and *keep holding* the green button long enough (while on call). Pressing it will give you 'Call on Hold'. Alt, you try PhoneAlarm .. or PocketPhone Zen (something like that) that gives you profiles (like Nokia phone) that enables you to have the option of getting speaker phone automatically upon receiving.

Screen lock on A2DP Bluetooth?

Firstly - hello all! What a great forum, I've gone from knowing nothing about Windows Mobile to having a fully customised Raphael in about 48 hours!
But: I have a set of Motorola S9 Bluetooth headphones which work excellently (although I haven't yet made or received a call using them). I also have a Sony a2dp Bluetooth headunit which also works excellently.
However .... As a matter of course I use the one touch power button to lock/standby, and when I press play/pause on either bluetooth device it automatically unlocks the phone.
When I'm driving this isn't such an issue as I will be ordering a Brodit Car Cradle very soon. But when I have the handset in my pocket using the S9 having it unlocked is a recipe for unwanted screen presses. I use the Touch Media Player (I know it's not the best but it seems to work OK for what I want) and the handset switches to the Music screen automatically (as well as unlocking) whenever I press play/pause. So theoretically it's pretty likely that it's only the media player that will get messed with, but you never know...
So my question is: Is there any way of stopping it from unlocking like this without introducing extra locking/unlocking complications?
hi
im using the Jabra BT3030, that uses A2DP aswel, on my touch pro and my phone stays locked when i start stop use the voice dailing, changing volume or song.
the phone turns on that is true, are u sure u are using the lock function
to realy lock ure phone u have to press and hold the end call button for 2 seconds(lower right button). if that button is not set to lock u can change that in ure phone settings under settings>long press end key there u can chose lock device
i hope this helps, let me know

Yeah, I'm using SonyEricsson HBH-DS980, and for me too the phone only turns on upon play/pause etc., but does not unlock.
Have you guys had any problems with receiving/making call using your headests? I have a problem that after a few minutes into a call my headset disconnects, although BT stays on, and I have to restart the headset to re-acquire BT-lock. And it keeps doing this every few minutes. Highly annoying - renders my headset completely useless for phone calls (luckily it still rocks for listening to music).
Mine does the same. Both with my HBH-DS970 and with my HTC BT headphones. I tried the long-press end key lock which works, but prevents me from changing tracks using the HTC headset, yet the volume control works. Weird huh?
I haven't tried the long end key press to lock the device. But thats because I use that for switching on vibrate mode.
Anyone got any other suggestions?
I'm using the motorola S9 too, and my TP doesn't unlock when I press play/pause.
Note that I've installed Answerkeydisabler and Advanced Config Tool and played with locking/screen-off, and may have activate some options leading to this behaviour...

u can always set the long key to "always display the quick list" so u can chose to lock ure device or set ure vibrate ringer
also u can just use the volume keys to change ure ringer to vibrate/sound to
I am now using the quick list so it sort of solves the problem. But it still seems a little awkward compared to just pressing the power button once and not having the a2dp commands reactivating it.
Are we saying that this cant be done?
Any ideas?

[Q] Market apps can't pick up or control wired headset, reassinging keycode works?

I recently got a Skullcandy wired headset that has a built in mic and the small button that can be used for routing calls. There are a number of third party apps to control more closely the actions of wired headsets, most notably "Headset Button Controller", but there are other free ones, or other ones that say they're for specific headsets and are supposed to work across the board, etc.
When the headset's plugged in and I press the button, it does register somehow in that the OS (AreaRom on Galaxy Precedent, gingerbread based) tries to do something funny like call the last person I talked to or start voice recognition. But I'm not sure exactly what it's doing. On all the third party apps for controlling headsets, I never got any change in the limited and buggy behavior of the headset button. On the "Headset Button Controller", for debug I checked the button to alert when the button was pressed, and it looks like it wasn't picking it up.
But what I *was* able to do was find the keycode (231, if it matters) using the key number tracker helper that comes with the Button Remapper app (floating around here on the forums) and remap it accordingly. After I did that, I could assign one, but only one, function to it. I chose the skip track function. The apps that are on the market allow you to control single tap, long tap, etc. Would also like to be able to pause...
Since I have this kind of limited control, I wonder if it's an issue with the third party apps expecting a certain keycode? is there something that I could remap the button to that these apps would be expecting to get?
If anyone has ideas please let me know, and hopefully I can help someone with the remapping tip, which gives limited functionality to that button for me as of now.

Phone answering application w/ bluetooth, speaker and phone buttons?

Hello. I'm running Android 7.1.2 and when the phone rings I have one button to answer. Then, I have to press another button if I want to direct the call to speaker or bluetooth device.
Does anyone know if there's a phone answering application that can have these buttons available, and depending on which medium you want to talk, you just press that button (e.g., speaker, phone, bluetooth)?
Thnx!

Xiaomi 10 Pro shortcut swipe from lock screen and Bluetooth volume sync

Hi, been playing this phone for 1 week already.
Which i find it very interesting and useful!
But there are some issues which i find it redundant and would like to see if experts out there can solve it.
1. When i long press the fingerprint in lock screen, it will unlock the phone. but when you press long enough i can access to the Wechat pay, Mi AI, Alipay shortcuts.
I use wechat pay alot, so when i swipe to do payment (the barcode one), it will notify me EVERYTIME Not to send the code to other people unless making payment and i have to press "got it". Is there a way i can bypass this and go directly to the barcode just like when you doing it the longest way where you have to open the wechat > wechat pay > Money.
2. when i connect my bluetooth speakers (my speaker has its own volume control), the volume of my xiaomi phone and speaker volume works separately.
What i mean is when i turn the volume up on the phone only the phone media volume goes up and not the speaker. so i have to turn up the speaker volume again to set the volume i want. Is there a way that could sync both volume at the same level so one volume key can set both phone and speaker.
i found that this is a common case too where many people are searching for solution...
I have tried the enabling/disabling absolute audio which doesn't work
I just found out that the problem will not persist when i am on a call.
So when i press the volume up and down on the bluetooth headset, it will also control the volume on the phone (the volume bar on the phone will go up and down while i am increasing or decreasing the volume on headset)
I've found that the problem is very common with every single phone I had..... probably it depends also from the bluetooth accesories used.
