Best messages app? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Verizons sucks imo. Everytime I try to change a color of a text bubble for my conversations the **** never ****ing saves. Also with the new lollipop update my group.me app has a little dialog box that scrolls down from the top of the screen and shows me the first 7 or so words of the persons message with the ability to reply and or like their comment, I was wondering if any of you know of a texting app with this capability. thanks

Textra

I use evolve, I love being able to reply from the status bar and swipe through different message feeds with quick swipe in for the conversation list. It's also very customizable.

Hangouts. I find it pretty good. Previously had used Handcent but since Hangouts integerates sms, mms and voice, it works great for me.

which is your favourite SMS app?

i ve been using Handcent...works great ..LED can be customized per contact..has good interface
what about u guys?
Handcent all the way
Handcent sms! hands down!
add to the choir... handcent
Saw about it here and try it. Fantastic. Thanks people.
I use the full version of ChompSMS, I like the layout better than Handcent and the pop up reply feature is great!
I've both Handcent & ChompSMS Full, currently using Handcent but ChompSMS is great as well
I far prefer ChompSMS. Simpler and just plain works.
ChompSMS.....
I've used both Handcent and Chomp - I can say that they're both awesome but the only features that set them apart for mine was that in Handcent, when your msg tone is playing - when you enter the app, and select the unread msg, the tone stops, Chomp does not - this gets VERY annoying when you're a 21 year old that sends and receives A LOT of msgs each day!
However, the ChompSMS widget is much better than Handcent as the widget gives you a preview and is just set out a little better I feel, where as the Handcent widget is the icon with an unread counter.
For mine, I've chosen Handcent as the combination of features and the solid backing that I've yet to have had a force close error provides quite the service I require =]
If you have a SMS plan then handscent is great, but if you don't
Text plus is free as long you enable APN when you send.
Hamdsent and chompsms is NOT free. No one SMS me usually anyway, i just log on MSN droid most of the time.

[Q] Help with BetterCut Shortcut?

Hello,
I've got a weird problem I'm trying to solve with bettercut. I think it should be relatively easy, but I'm stumped and was wondering if somebody could help me out.
I use an HTC Legend and I like SenseUI too much to change to another launcher. I use an App called SMS Popup to notify me of new messages, but this app - combined with SenseUI - creates a bug with the default Messages shortcut.
Basically, when I mark a message as Read with the SMS Popup, the default Messages shortcut keeps the notification badge telling me I have unread messages. Which is annoying, because to fix this I have to go into the messaging app, scroll to the message I've already read in order to convince SenseUI I've read it.
So basically, what I'm trying to do with BetterCut is launch the SMS app without the system treating it as a Shortcut that needs a notification badge. I read all of my SMSs immediately mostly so I never need it to tell me how many I need to read.
So far, I have the intent as:
android.intent.action.RUN
and the data as:
com.android.MMS
However, when I select this shortcut, it says the app isn't installed.
So could somebody help me either:
1. Make a shortcut with BetterCut to the default Messaging app which won't show notification badges
or
2. Turn off notification badges entirely, because I don't use them for email either and they kinda piss me off.
Thanks!
PS. I've searched forums and google extensively for this, so I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't already tried
Cheers
Anybody? I don't imagine it's that difficult, I'm just missing something
There must be somebody out there who knows how to do this
I could do this all day
Or night, depending on the time

[App] Go Contacts - AOSP Contact and Dialer replacement.

coming from "sense" and "tw" devices i became spoiled by the dialer option of using the t9 to look up my numbers as it is a lot easier to type someone's name rather then memorizing their number or having to scroll through your contact list. If you like using the "sense" or the "tw" method then I suggest you look up "Go Contacts" and the best part is its FREE.
I used to use Dialer One.
VERY good phone app that gets updated often. It has several options like saving numbers which aren't saved and T9 dialing.
I used to use it religiously but now I just do voice search, "Call Dad Mobile". Seems to work easier and faster; especially while driving.
[EDIT]
It's free also.
great app thanks
i love all the go app great developer
I've been trying out Youlu which has a dialer/sms/contacts app in one. I like it, but the sms app doesn't auto-correct words when you type. Plus some people don't like having the sms app tied to the dialer + contacts.

Go Contacts
I give all of the go dev team apps thumbs up. First they are free, Second they are extremely flexible in the options and setup areas. The only one I am not using right now is the go launcher just because the sock one is so friking fast I hate to slow it down at all. Not that the go launcher is slow but it just cant match the stock.
My wife like the look of my contacts screen and dialer so much she is now using go contacts on her phone as well.
I have been using a Vibrant. The contacts/dialer app on the Samsung Galaxy S line is excellent. But the functionality I really am looking for on my G2X, is the ability to text a phone number, directly out of the contact app.
For example, I want to text Henry's mobile phone number to Fred. In the Samsung, I would go to Henry's contact, long-press his mobile phone number, and text that to Fred. Very clean and efficient.
Is there an app I can load on my G2X that provides the same functionality?

i had a vibrant so i know what you mean ... go dialer/contact does that and has more options and thems! def worth checking out
side note ; go products are great! i use go launcher, sms, weather and dialer! of course there not as fast as stock but the look and customization trumps stock or even launcher pro plus
I tried Go Contacts, and though it is a nice dialer, it does not offer the features that I described. If I long-press a mobile number, it assumes I want to text that person. If I had wanted to text that person, I would have long-pressed on the "message" icon on that number, not the number directly.
Or am I missing something obvious?
Long press on the number then select the option "send contact". That's the only thing I could think off.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
that works! Thanks!

[Q] No message count in ARHD 6.3.0?

I really liked the message count feature. It showed who I texted more often than others. It was a nice feature to have. Is there any way to bring this option back in the default messaging app? I know other apps such as ChompSMS have this feature but I'd really rather avoid the ads or pay for it.
Or another option I'm open to as an ICS ROM that has the message count feature.

Android 11, Messages Chat Bubble

I have a Pixel 3a, and I updated to Android 11 yesterday (official release) OTA update. My phone is completely stock with Developer mode enabled. I noticed that in the notifications for Messages I do not have the option to break it out into the chat bubble (similar to Facebook Messenger). I verified in the notifications settings that I have All conversations can bubble. I am running Google Messages 6.4.044. Has anyone else run into this yet?
Thank you!
I have bubbles enabled and I don't see the option to make text msgs turn into bubbles either. Neither does FB Messenger show the option.
On top of that, everytime I click on the search bar of any Google app, a small text bubble appears which says "null". Weird a** bugs
Edit: Installing Messages Beta fixed the issue for me. It enables bubbles.

Thank you! If the beta is stable, I'll go that route.
Hi,
Same issue for me regarding bubbles with message and whatsapp.
Bubbles are disabled by default (Messages) or only for selected chats (FB Messenger). So you have to enable first by yourself. Everything is working fine here if enabled properly in the settings.
Bubbles are allowed on my p3a, but I don't see them. I've just installed Messages BĂȘta and same issue [emoji53]
Edit: precisely I have small bubbles at the top of the screen (as notifications used to be previously but different colors) and I'm unable to move them on the screen and to keep them active (like fb messenger)
For those who have the issue, you're not alone
There is a 400+ posts thread on google assistance forum.

Bubbles seem to work fine for Telegram, Google Messages after upgrade to beta and the easter egg cat.
However FB messenger and WhatsApp notifications show no bubble activation icon.
