[Q] Front cam is very noisy and purple - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I searched the forums and looked up few threads and saw a couple people complaning about noisy cams and pink spots. But didn't see anyone with a purple front cam problem and couldn't find examples. My problem is with my front cam it is normally a little bit grainy and not so good but I am not complaining. But when I cover the lens with my finger it is bad, really bad. I mean look at it, is this supposed to be black ? Now I am thinking it is not a software problem because my back cam does not have this. So I think this is a hardware thingy. My question is, is this how the front cam works or is it a defect ? Can you guys please post some front cam photos with lens covered?

I have the same problem and idk how to fix that problem, i tried manual and superior mode and same problem :/

Do you also have it only in your front cam or do you have the problem in both back and front cams ? Can you post a pic from your front cam while your lens is covered ? Because I am starting to think that this is the way front cam supposed works. If we can see pics from some other Z3's, we can conculede.

the touch pro has a front camera (just like the Tytn II did).
But the AT&T versions of the HTC phones (Fuze, Tilt etc) are all built without a front facing camera. I wish it did
awww, that sucks. Jerks! For the price I wish we had the front facing camera as well. I wonder if it's actually there, just hidden under the faceplate ;P

Lines across camera?

Anybody getting a constant flow of lines going across their camera? I'm experiencing this with rear and front camera. Really not impressed
I am not experiencing anything like that.

No
I only get it in low light conditions... Might be my energy saving light bulbs, now that I think about it lol.
I do get the lines, but not in the final picture, only in the screen in the camera app.

that s common in xperia somehow. it appears when put camera in dark place
it s only on preview and nothing to do with capturing.
it can be both for lcd and lens
but it s software issue that because final pics are fine
:good:

Does it kinda look like an old CRT monitor when recorded with a video camera? I kinda suspect it may have something to do with the manufacturing origin / intended country of sale for your phone and the region in which you are using it. Here's an interesting video on why https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzP8FFKpwQ0 forgive me if I've misunderstood what's going on.
I get lines sometimes. Usually when near fluorescent light sources, or looking at a TV screen. Don't forget these sources run at certain frequencies, UK electricity for example is 50Hz, so fluorescent tubes are flickering at that frequency, same with TV's. Basically.
The lines on my screen don't seem to translate into the final images, or the image enhancement removes them.

Snapchat and grainy photos

Hello everyone,
The photos from Snapchat specially with the front camera turn out to be quite grainy. Updated to the latest version and still the same issue. Anyone experiencing the same? And is there a probable fix? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.
I have the same issue. They fixed it for a while but it appeared again on last update
i have same issue too. front cam is normally bad also in default app, but on snapchat it is awful

Front camera is not normally bad in default app, you must have software or hardware issue. This is a Snapchat issue, you should probably email developer.

I mean against the main camera. front is not so good. i tested it with 4-5 devices at same quality level they are all slightly better in terms of front camera. i dont know my device has problem or not but, i couldn't take clear photo in close-up. it seems little bit blurry

Of course the rear camera is going to be better than the front camera. You can not take close up pictures with the front(selfie cam). Phone needs to be at least a foot away(arms length is better).
Threes definitely an issue with Snapchat and the front camera on this phone. The photos are ridiculously grainy and much worse than front photos taken with the stock camera app.
Yes it is. Snapchat team needs to fix that on their software. But I don't think that it will be soon

Redmi note 5 AI Global front camera HDR+ and portrait mode working only in good light

After hours and hours of testing and depleting my battery twice in a day, I can safely say that I found a google camera which has front facing camera working with HDR+ and also portrait mode working.
On top of that the quality of the pictures taken with the rear camera were also very high quality. So far it's working on latest MIUI 10 Global Beta as well as custom roms like latest AEX.
The gcam I'm talking about is the CameraX-V2.apk from alone_in_dark https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-alone_in_dark/
HDR+Enhanced doesn't work on front camera, so remember to switch back to HDR+ after you use it on rear camera.
Posted my settings bellow.

Close the camera completely, start it again, switch to front. Then take a selfie in good light, then you can take as many as you want in low light as well. Works for me, try it.

It works only if you take one in good light and don't close the app/change modes/open gallery. That's not a repeatable nor reliable in any lightning condition except in daylight. So it was already known issue which is yet to be fixed.

It doesn't work. It's not HDR+, it's the normal picture. Compare with MIUI or Nokia camera :/

First picture taken with MIUI camera original was 7.8 MB and the second taken with Gcam was 9.7 MB. The dynamic range and colors are better for sure. Focus doesn't seem to be working on the gcam though, and google photos compressed the gcam photo more.

Don't know why I should provide proof lol. I've taken 4 more shots, 2 are with artificial light on and two are very low light photos with lights off, just a bit of light coming in from the window.
MIUI cam with artificial light https://photos.app.goo.gl/5VjDPsap3TkmaFZv6
Gcam with artificial light https://photos.app.goo.gl/UWDxyqSH6wj5fEEw5
MIUI cam very low light https://photos.app.goo.gl/Npdwk3Ng1qZLUypz7
Gcam very low light https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZQFfz1QLM3CF6sQH7
All photos were taken in auto mode no over or under exposure.
If it doesn't work for you I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do. I don't try to make hoaxes here, I just didn't find a Gcam with front camera working like this one, so I thought I'd share it. I guess it's better than nothing.
Another thing, if your photos load after you take them with gcam then it means they are HDR+ photos, if it's instant it's not HDR+. All the photos I take with Gcam front are loading 2 seconds before they show up.
Edit: Best thing would be to wait for someone skilled to mod a gcam for our device.

Oh man sorry, I deleted around 80 test pictures I had in google photos and cleared the trash as well like a stupid idiot without thinking they'll disappear from here as well.
I'll take them again tomorrow and update the links. Sorry again.
I took some pictures outside and then inside. You don't have to turn it up. Its working. Thank you for your research.

Not only that, with Gcam minimal it also works and with HDR+ Enhanced. If you take a picture with the front panel in low light then they work in low light until you close the application or change it. Gcam is to tell the camera that you have taken a very bright picture before.
It's still not working in low light. It's not a repeatable pattern to make it work.

agree, it works once for first time after rebooting device, other than that no pattern makes it work again unless reboot device again.

No, my pattern works with enhanced HDR+. We already know how to make it work, now we just need a dev to take an interest

Destrangis said:
No, it is a pattern. With enhanced HDR+, Make yourself a selfie with good light, it works. Without closing the application and without entering the gallery, enter an interior, it will work until you close or change the application.
Therefore, if you could get the front camera to believe that you had taken a picture in good light when you entered it would work.

I was doing that before the OP found out about it, I know the trick, but that's not the point, it still doesn't trigger in conditions other than bright daylight, do you understand that?
You can't go out every time just to make the camera work, and what about conditions worse than that, where are you going to find bright enough light to trick the camera, for example when you are going out in the evening? Even indoors during the day you have a hard time triggering it.
Cirra92 said:

Ok, but there is a pattern. Until now there was nothing. It's probably something to do with the default aperture value of the lens or something similar. For some reason, after taking a photo with good light conditions those values change. It would be enough to modify the initial values by the new ones.... But they need some interested developers.
No need to be angry, I'm just trying to help.

Front camera hidden color correct feature

Noticed this at a club with a blue light, thought it was pretty cool! Sadly only works with the front facing camera but even my friend's samsung s9 couldnt do it

Couldn't do what? I watched the video. I see everything blue until your face is on camera.

the blue light was corrected from the front facing cam, he sits in blue light but the camera make his face normal as he sits in normal light. very impressive Technic!
