[Q] Removing saved wifi networks - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an N5 on 4.4.4, stock rom, franco kernel, xposed installed. just so you have a baseline.
I have this one major problem with it that I've been trying to sort out for... a long time, and nothing seems to work.
I can't make it forget wifi networks.
At all.
I longpress, click forget network, and then a minute later, it will reconnect to it again.
I have 4 different wifi networks this happens with now, which is massively annoying.
I've tried everything suggested by google, such as removing them when they're not in range, etc, and nothing works.
Does anyone know of maybe some config file i can manually wipe them from, or some app that will let me be rid of this blight?
thanks in advance

file you're asking - /data/misc/wifi/wpa_suplicant.conf - (that's in lollipop, but don't think it will different in KK )

Nexus 5 Wifi Issue

So I've had my Nexus 5 for roughly around a month and I hadn't experienced any issues others have had with wifi not connecting until now. My N5 will show im connected to my home wifi with full bars, but going into quick settings shows it to be orange. Suggesting there's no data transfer, I cannot use any internet based apps with wifi. I've tried some suggestions, switching my router off then on, rebooting the phone, turning some settings off in the advanced panel in wifi settings. All have failed.
I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if anyone has a fix to it.

There was a thread around here somewhere that suggested turning off your mobile data helped fix this problem, I think it was in the N5 General forums.....here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550690
Don't know if it'll help or not, just saw your thread and had just looked at the other one, figured I'd toss it out there.
Thanks for the reply, just tried that solution but still no luck.
I have a similar problem except that there are phases of wifi not working.
Sometimes I would have around 20-30 seconds of WiFi not working and there would be no data transfer.
Speeds are still fast when it is working however.
I played a little with only using mobile data and no wifi, and everything worked. (Small sample size however).
Seems like this is a WiFi only issue.
So somehow overnight the wifi has managed to fix itself, will report back if the problem returns.
The issue with the wifi returned unfortunately.

Don't know if you've tried this but change your WiFi frequency band in advanced setting to either "5 GHz only" or "2.4 GHz only," whatever your router uses. Might be worth a try.
Thanks for the help, but I've tried changing some settings in advanced wifi settings but it hasn't worked. Even what you recommended I've tried that before and it didn't work.
wifi issue
Also I have the same issue - Im connected to router by wi-fi, home and work and time by time (5x a day) wifi stops working. Wifi is enabled in settings, but there is no connection. Restart the cellphone helps, but after that, maybe an hour, it appears again.
Issue was in 4.4 and still appers in 4.4.1.
Yet did not found how to solve it.
I have the same issue on my gnex running shiny 4.4, but I also had the same issue on 4.3. Tried the wifi options, nothing worked. Unfortunately, no solution for this device that has to last one more week. The double swipe down and tapping wifi gets the connection back, but it is only a work around.
The N5 connects seamlessly to my home and work wifi. A few days ago, I flashed the hammerhead factory image, TWRP and the 4.4.1 update.

Hey,
I have the same problem with 4.4.2.(factory rom, no root or not unlocked). Sometimes the wifi not works and get orange. I must put airplane mode to fix it. Its annoying.
But as well happens to me:
When I go out from office or home (where I have wifi connections saved in phone) the phone automatically switch to data plan from carrier. But when I come back the phone stays with data and there is not automatic switch to wifi. Sometimes it help to put wifi off or always airplane mode on/off for a while.
I do not know if it is normal behave of android but I would like have automatic switch to wifi.
I tried to change wifi details (changing bands, etc.) but not helped.
Please help. Thank you.
Is custom ROM or kernel will fix it??
For some unknown reason, as soon as I updated my router's firmware, the problem disappeared.
Updated Android 6.0 solved the issue

So I had the unfortunate experience of having my wifi go down while on vacation and for 3 weeks I spent a good chunk of time wiping and reinstalling multiple versions from Cyanogen, Paranoid android and 4.4 - 5.1 to no avail. I just did another factory wipe today and installed the new Android 6.0
The Finger Pointing Game is OVER
Read through 30+ pages of other android users with similar experience and some people send their units back to LG and some even managed getting a new handset. There was never any hardware issues with my unit I just couldn't turn on the WiFi but after the install WiFi works? Guess next time you push a software update to our Phones CHECK YOUR SH*T google and Maybe DON'T Take 3 months to FIX your F*CK Up.
I have a similar issue. Since Lollipop my phone almost never automatically connects to my WiFi anymore. What's wrong?

Lost LTE and internet access on some Wi-Fi networks after flashing Cyanogenmod

This is the first help post for anything tech-related that I've ever posted- I'm usually good enough with Google to fix my own problems, but this one has me flustered.
Until yesterday I was running DigitalHigh's GPE ROM but decided to give Cyanogenmod another try after some persistent lag issues. Everything went fine during the install until I noticed that I was stuck on 3G no matter what I did- airplane mode, reboot, clear the cache, try to update APN settings, etc., nothing helped. Additionally, while the phone will connect to my home wireless network, it has a ! next to the connection symbol despite my being able to use the network with my laptop. The funny thing is, this only happens with some networks. Neither my home network nor the network at work will give me internet access, but if I plug an ethernet cable into my laptop and create an access point that way, I'm fine.
Here's what I've tried so far after scouring these and other forums:
-Reverted back to the previous ROM
-Flashed new firmware
-Flashed two new kernels
-Tried every different APN setting I can think of
-Popped out my sim card, waited a bit, and popped it back in
-Rebooted countless times
-Cleared every cache I can think of
-updated TWRP
There's probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head as well. Does anybody have any idea what on earth has happened to my phone?

[Completed] Suddenly non-functioning data connection on Sprint (Ting) LG G2

I'm running EuphoriaOS (Euphoria-OS-1.1-ls980-OFFICIAL-20150622), which is a custom Lollipop rom. It's been working ok so far up until a few days ago, when my data connection just suddenly broke. Granted, the 4G/LTE wasn't functional before either, but I use wifi a lot and 3G is tolerable. But now I get nothing. Texting and calling are fine, though. I've had to mess with flashing APNs separately to get any cellular functionality before, but reflashing that to fix this new issue hasn't worked. I've googled how to fix this for hours, and I've tried pretty much every "fix" out on the internets. Still... nothing works. When I try to add APNs through the phone settings menu, it says "APN settings are not available for this user." I can tap the 3-dot icon and add the APNs and then tap Save, but the new APNs (or any existing APNs in system\etc\apns-conf.xml) are visible in the APNs settings menu. I tried resetting to default. I tried wiping cache. Tried reflashing the rom. You name it, I tried it. I guess the only thing left is to flash a stock rom and update prl and whatnot. That's a ton of hassle, and I don't even know if that'll work. I could only find stock kitkat roms too... would fixing data on a KK stock rom even do anything?
Help! Thanks in advance!

OPO connects to WiFi, but no internet?

Hi all, thanks in advance for your help and comments.
I am running the latest cyanogen mod 13.0 snapshot. I just flashed it maybe 5 days ago and things seemed to be working just great. Today, I came home and when my phone connected to my WiFi network it said "Connected, No Internet." I tried connecting to another WiFi network that I have used, and got the same message. I know that the internet does work on the network because this laptop works, and other android devices I have are working too. I've tried disconnecting, reconnecting, rebooting, changing some settings. So far nothing has worked. Additionally, when I switch to LTE, it works sometimes, but stalls out quite a bit. Earlier today I was using LTE throughout the day with no problems. I'm pretty perplexed by this problem. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks.
Did you clean flashed cm13 snapshot?
It could be an issue with the Wi-Fi channel frequencies; Try this fix, from Advanced WiFi settings make sure you have "Auto" selected under "Wi-Fi frequency band". Also, try creating a hotspot from your Laptop using your connection and see if the issue still persists. (For creating a hotspot you may use applications such as mhotspot etc.
Hope this helps.
Yeah it was a clean flash.
Thanks for the suggestions. I did switch between the 2 GHz, 5 GHz, and Auto options under the band settings. Never made a difference. I ended up clean flashing PA last night because I was getting so frustrated. WiFi works again, but the PA rom doesn't really have a lot of customization options. I'll have to try something else tonight I guess.
The weird thing about the WiFi issue was that it worked just fine for probably 4 days on the CM snapshot. I honestly don't know what could have changed. I didn't make any big changes to the ROM or anything.
Hmmm...i have the same problem about a week ago but i found out it got nothing to do with the rom but got a thing to do with the theme i used...it seems like the theme i use before doesn't work properly which prevent my wifi to work....i switched my theme and suddenly the wifi is working again....i'm not sure if this can help you but if you do use 3rd parties themes then i suggest you switched to default theme and try your wifi connection...

Wifi problem - on-off and no wifi hotspot, phone restarting - Please HELP

Hello everyone,
me and my wife enjoy our htc U11, but few days ago mine start playing up - wifi have difficulties to connect its doing like on-off-on-off, and after while connect to router, doing same thing at work and home too, and I really can't use any longer wifi hotspot, and phone restart at least once a day, not very happy, but today my wife experienced same problems as I have few days, must say both phones bought in UK from two different companies and different times, both are on stock rom, completely standard phones, I am only using modified camera apk, can anyone give me advice what it could be?, I do not have even Facebook or Twitter account, so can't be related to these apks. Was going to do hard reset tonight, but after my wife told me she got same problems and she use her phone very little, I am not sure if hard reset will resolve problems. I will welcome any help...
Forgot to say we are on 2.33.401.10
Many thanks..
Settings>more>data usage>network restrictions>check to see if the network has been restricted.
Settings>more>three dots (overflow menu) and hit "reset network settings"
Have you reset the router, checked the network settings are correct (if you use dhcp just reset your router).
If the ssid has spaces or characters/symbols then this can cause issues.
I have personally known routers that use signal binding to run at speeds incompatible with some devices. Especially those with 1gb interfaces. *cough netgear*.. Falling back to a basic setup helps significantly.
A factory reset will probably solve it but you'll lose your data. That is the last ditch effort.
Hi, what is latest update for this rom?, as we can get no ota update, if you point me right direction, will be great, and I will update at least one phone, and see difference. I already reset home router, I reset network setup on phones, wipe cache on both phones, still problems, and even when I am not at home, wifi playing, as I can setup wifi hotspot and I am away from any wifi. Many thanks..
Sorry that was my bad, I forgot I was looking at my m9, not my U11. You are up to date.
My post has been edited. Follow that.
To have the same problem on both phones is very strange indeed. It must be network settings causing the problem unless you have an app running that monitors WiFi in some way..
I, too, have been having WiFi problems all of a sudden. I am not stock, I'm on viper with EAS kernel, but was running it all just fine for a while then without changing anything, I have the same problem.
Still looking for fix, but no luck so far, tonight I reset router just to be sure, but problem is still there, I am sure sooner or later I will find out what is behind this problem.
