[Q] dual sim poor 4g speeds - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a dual sim Honor 6 that has been imported from China.
I bought the phone for this set up - 4g data card in sim 1 for data only (can get 90 days 6gb for £15.00) and a cheap 3g card in slot 2 for calls and messages at £3.75 a month. total outlay for 4g, calls and messages = £8.75 a month which suits my needs very well.
I got my data card yesterday and registered it with the provider.
This is the problem I have - neither of my sims works well at all in slot 2 for data - speeds of 0.12Mbps on each card at best.
When I have each sim individually in slot 1 without the other card present I get 50Mbps on the 4g data card and 13Mbps on my 3g card.
When I then introduce my 3g card into slot 2 to sit along side the 4g data card that is in slot one the 4g speed drops from 50Mbps down to 4Mbps.
Clearly, what I would like is to get 50Mbps and take texts and calls on my 3g card and I am stumped as to why this is not happening
Has anyone had a similar experience or even not and have the knowledge of how to fix this problem?
I've contacted Honor UK and they politely said that they can't/won't help as it is a Chinese import. My data and telephony providers have no idea and suggest that there is an issue with the phone.
Cheers
Nigel

Second sim slot supports 2g only. That means EDGE network speeds, that translates into a maximum 238kbps theoretically.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I'm coming to the conclusion after doing some more digging that the 3g card that i have in slot 2 is conflicting with the 4g card in slot 1.
I think what I need to do now is get a 2g only card and test that along side the 4g card.
That's my next problem - do any providers do 2g only cards as nearly all plans these days have some sort of data attached to them.
Can the mobile provider switch off the data part of the 3g card if i can't get hold of a 2g card?

As far as I know, it doesn't matter what kind of sim card do you use. If the sim is in the second slot, phone will automatically use 2g for network data and calls.
If you're hoping for better data speeds on second sim card, it's not possible using this phone.

[Q] hardware differences between US verizon 3g and UK 3g

Hello all
i have a verizon 3g xoom. it's not upgraded yet. i live outside us
about the UK 3g xoom, can it operate 2g sim card? for sms, gprs or ...
how about normal 3g sim cards?
is there any hardware difference between mine and uk one?
may i operate my 2g sim card on my xoom? how about 3g?
when i put sim card nothing happen. i just tried 2g sim card
our 3g operator is not started selling sim cards ... but we have 4g operator.
if i install uk xoom's rom on my own, can i use sim card?
is there any mini pci-e card that i can use my sim card with it? (self upgrade xoom with custom mini-pci-e)
please help me. i need some information. i'm confused.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263634
how about this thread? i've done that but dont work for me. there is no signal, i think it didnt recognized my sim card.
if i install the mini-pci-e card that motorola installs on xoom during upgrade, can i use sim card for 2g/3g ? (sms or internet)
i have found this : "If you bought your Xoom from Verizon, it will have no SIM card slot. Verizon's CDMA network doesn't use SIM cards. Also, if you bought the Verizom model, it will only work on Verizon, and not another carrier. There is also a WiFi-Only Xoom, and it does not have a SIM slot."
here : "http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/53440/Why+I+can%27t+find+3G+SIM+Slot+in+my+Motorola+Xoom"
but mine have sim slot with a plastic sim on it.
The Verizon 3G Xoom does have a sim card slot but no hardware inside to read the sim card. That is what the 4G upgrade was for, to install the hardware necessary to utilize the sim card for the Verizon 4G LTE network.
I don't know if anyone has gotten a Verizon Xoom working on any other carriers network.
Theres pix of the inside of my Uk3g Zoom somewhere...

[Q] D6633 Hacking

Hey guys,
So I have the Z3 Dual, but where I live, we only get 3G network and no GSM, which brings me to my question:
Is anyone working towards a hack to allow my device to run BOTH my Telstra SIM cards in LTE mode without one reverting to GSM?
Thanks in advance,
Phil
Really? No gsm signal or 2g. I think 2g structures are the most basic one that every carrier Has. BecAuse if 3g becomes congested, the subscriber can fall back to 2g. Anyway i guess no hack is on going because of the rooting issues with this plus i think it's a hardware limitation. 2 simcards cannot use 1 modem (the 3g/4g) because that would tax a lot of battery power
Sent from my D6633 using XDA Free mobile app
There are 2 radios in the phone I'm suspecting, since both SIM's run different IMEI numbers (1 per radio) if you check in About Phone/Status and check the 2 SIMs.
So I can't see why this is a limitation.... renders the phone worthless for what I wanted it for (Work sim and Personal sim),
And yes, where I live, there has never been GSM, it was CDMA before the towers were upgraded to 3G (Central Wheatbelt is Western Australia).

When you use the first SIM with LTE the second has no signal?
I can't understand if the second sim limit is only for connection or also for 3G bands.
I mean: you can still use the second line on a 3G network only for calls and SMS without using data connection or not? The second line is limited on 2G bands?
thanks for answers I ordered a Z3 Dual 2 days ago

Correct, because the second sim drops down to GSM, which we don't have in rural Western Australia. And vice versa, set the second SIM to LTE/WCDMA and the first SIM drops down to GSM. Meaning, you cannot run 2 SIM's side-by-side unless you live in an area that has GSM/2G still.

So, you choose either SIM as your data sim. Whichever you choose, that sim runs in LTE mode and the other SIM is used for calls/sms only.
SMS and phone apps both have 2 send buttons labelled 1 and 2, so you can send messages or make calls from either SIM at the press of a button. But only 1 SIM has data active, that is the SIM running in LTE mode.
I have messaged Sony Mobile Developers regarding this, the reply was:

Thanks for infos!
That's weird! If I live in a place with only 2G or only 3G network I cannot use 2 sim cards!
But I remember reading on online user manual that the 2 sims network settings are separated, right? If you force both on the right frequency?
In a few days I'll receive the phone and I'll help you with some tests

Correct, both sims wont run on 3G at the same time..
Both sims WILL run on 2G at the same time though (GSM).

Are you sure your SIM card compatible with 4G (older card maybe not working)?
Try in other 4G compatible phone, if not working need to change to one new!

It's normal that the options are grey, if you only insert one SIM card to Slot 1. Then slot 2 can be uses for the external SD Card.
Slot 1 is configurated to all types. GSM, UMTS, 4G( LTE).
If you turn data on and you are not logged into a WLAN a icon will show for example E (edge) if you have a slow net.
If you are in the near of a LTE transmitter of your provider and you contract allows to use 4G, you would see a 4G icon.
Maybe you have disabled LTE: go to settings Mehr ,Moblifunknetz, Bevorzugter Netzwerktyp and Lselect GSM/WCDMA/LTE
Maybe the entry below "Betreiber" is wrog, or the ADB settings (Zugangspunkte)
Hello,
I'm totaly stupid.....I have tested a lot without success.
After some thinking I found in internet that vodofone dont have a contract with 1and1 for 4g. I checked my contract and remember that I did not have a 4g contract.
So the mediapad x2 should receive it, but I do not have a contract for it.

Second SIM - only 3G ?

I have an European model U11 Plus, Dual-SIM, 6GB, 128 GB, and just goat a second SIM card.
I see in the settings that the secons SIM can only be configured as 3G, no 4G option.
Is this true or am I missing a setting ? Was expecting both SIMs to be 4G.

you can not run both SIMs in 4G mode.
When you have two nano SIM cards inserted on your phone, only one card can connect to the faster 4G LTE network. The other card will connect to the 3G/2G network.

Indeed, what is already an improvement over the older phones who where 'stuck' on 2G only even when only the second SIM was activated (and so the first SIM disabled).
For the U11+ if you disable the first SIM automatically the second SIM will be able to work even with 4G+.
But it shouldn't matter since if two SIMs activated you can run the data over the other SIM. Unless you want to try VoLTE for your second SIM phone number.?

Problems with 4G connection

Hello everybody... I own a Coolpad 5380CA bought in China and it works very well in my country but it doesn't get the 4G connection in SIM1, only in the SIM2 card. The problem is it only has 16GB RAM memory so I use a 16GB microSD in the slot 2 of the phone (the one to this) and I have to put the sim card in slot 1 (the one with the 4G problem). Some time ago I switch the sim card to slot 2 and when I returned to slot 1 it GET the 4G connection, it works well for a while but this week the 4G signal was lost again. I use the *#*#4636#*#* code to see the information and in the "Set preferred network type" appears "Unknown". Whe it was getting the 4G in slot1 the configuration was the same, when I put the "LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)" it doesn't recognize the 4G and when I put the option "LTE only" the signal is lost...
This is an annoying thing because in slot 2 the sim card works very well, and it gets the 4G and 3G radio frequencies, but I have to sacrifice the use of the microSD card and lose 16GB of storage...
Any help will be welcome... thanks to everybody
