[Q] ROOT for Archos 50 Diamond - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
i'm currently here with my Archos 50 Diamond. Because of VPN (Cisco Anyconnect) i need to root my device.
Is there a way to root a Kernel from 4. feb 2015? (Kernel version 3.10.28 Android 4.4.4)
I'm not new in rooting devices, but i have never do it completly by myself.
alope

I also have this phone now, but my attempts to achieve root have thus far been unsuccessful.
I managed to get as far as for the OS to see my phone as several partitions on a mass storage device, where I can see the /system and /data partitions, amongst others, but any attempt to write on those partitions gives me errors in the EXT4 file system.
Any attempt to use one of those "One-Click" solutions was also unsuccessful.

guys may i know where you bought archos 50 diamond phone?

Until now, there was only one way to buy it. At Archos.com

Performance is ok, few lags here and there, but probably the applications I did install on it!

This would be great to have a separated forum for Archos 50 Diamond.

root ?
any news for the root of the smartphone? I want to buy soon but I hesitate because of the probable lack of support for developers . The hardware is very good for the price : 4g lte, FullHd 440ppi, 16gb rom, 2gb ddr, Snapdragon 615 & Adreno 405 = 199€

I have tried the above mentioned temporary cwm recovery and root my device successfully.
I already installed some ported app (sony walkman) through cwm recovery and its working 100%.
May be next update the cwm recovery can be installed permanently.

Xolo Play Tab 7.0 deadly bug
I have recently bought Xolo PLay Tab 7.0 from Amazon twice and returned it. Now I again went ahead and Purchased it from WS retailer in Flipkart. In all the three products I found the same issue.
The system reboots and freezes in the bootup screen immediatly when I turn on bluetooth. I remember same thing happened with Wifi also. If once it restarts, its freezes in the boot screen and never shows lock screen. Then one has to go to recovery mode and factory reset the system to boot into Android.
All the three devices has the same problem. I am planning to return it again and get back my money. Is it fixable?? I know its a wonderfull device but spoiled buy software bugs.
I really want to keep the device. But with this problem, all my user data are getting lost often. It doesnt have file manager also which leaves it less usable without intenet.

example the asus google nexus 7(2012) has nvidia tegra 3 and is upgradeable to 4.4.2 and on the other hand there is Xolo play tab 7
which has the same hardware but runs on 4.1.1 and has no software support, so , is it possible, just asking out of curiosity

HELP! I need the stock recovery of xolo tw800
I have replaced the stock recovery of this tablet. So I need if someone could provide me with a backup of recovery through apps like flashify or twrp. For those who can't root this tab, just google 'enable adb drivers on nvidia based android tablets' and you are ready to go. After installing drivers, this tab can be rooted using vroot software. Thanks in advance.
Roooted with just one click
Download iroot and install it on your tab ,run the app and click root.Be sure to be connected to the internet.Hoped it helped.

How to ROOT iberry Auxus Beast?

I have bought the phone "Auxus Beast" by iberry. And I wish if I could root it. I have searched many threads and tried some of rooting apps too. Nothing worked. Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance..
Rooted at last
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60958679&postcount=855
I have successfully rooted my Auxus Beast using the recovery.img from the post above. It is meant for the Mlais M52 but it works perfectly on the Auxus.
Important (not mentioned in the post advice):
1. Remove or disable any king root su on the phone, you'll have it for sure if you ever tried to root with iroot.
2. Once you've rebooted into system after flashing the update supersu.zip (i used Beta2.49), use any root explorer and rename the recovery_from_boot.p file found in /System to recovery_from_boot.bak. this way, you won't lose the modified recovery on the next boot. .
I've tried almost all the available methods to root the beast and this is the only one that works at present.
Good luck, lemme know how it goes

Root is possible only factory firmware, if update is done rooting not possible. After rooting 1st update is possible but su will not work, 2nd update not possible. I did not face any problem for non updating. You need to flash factory firmware first (google the firmware) if not found
i will upload, then flash recovery, from needrom site m52 latest rom,
in factory firmware replace the recovery in place of original one... reboot....flash the su manually from update firmware, you are done.
For un-rooting re-flash the factory image with original firmware, update and you are again in warranty.
No problem till date

The phone is capable of processing High end HD games.. No need of additional tweaks for that. I have played Games like Dead Trigger 2 , Contract Killer, Kritika etc without any issue.. Only problem I have faced is the partitioning of internal memory.. I had many arguments with iBerry CustomerCare on that topic.. But they never seem to understand the problem.. :/

[Lenovo A10-70F] Unsecured boot.img / TWRP 2.8.7.x / Root

It's for A7600-F version! I didn't test it on other variants.
Also the boot.img is for ...150401_ROW firmware. (the latest one)
TWRP + unsecured boot.img
* You need to be rooted at least for the while to do it. The easiest way is to use KingRoot. You can uninstall it later and/or replace it with SuperSU.
1. Download the images and copy them to internal storage -> Google Drive
2. Turn on USB Debugging, then use Android Emulator or ADB shell to type those commands:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/TWRP_2.8.7.x_a7600f.img of=/dev/recovery bs=16777216 count=1
dd if=/sdcard/unsecuredboot_a7600f.img of=/dev/bootimg bs=16777216 count=1
Root
1. Just flash SuperSU in TWRP.
Bugs
*Screen sometimes doesn't turn on after it goes to sleep (Workaround: Settings-->Screen->Uncheck screen timeout)
*Reboot doesn't work (Workaround: adb reboot or reboot in Terminal Command)
Also external storage isn't tested.
Source: github
Replaced TWRP image with new version with better interface and it should be more stable in overall.

Bump
I too want to know if this works. Flashify or terminal dd command? Anyone?
I tried it with the dd command line. It works. But I don't know to get back to stock, because the flash tool for stock firmware now does not recognize my tablet anymore.
Maybe someone can make a backup of the system partition for me?

Ouch Yeah I am rooted and have it the way I like and even have xposed running, but feel unsafe without a custom recovery installed yet.
Still no recovery solution
Have tried the guides that are around the net, but when I try them my tablet always wakes and boots when plugging it in to use flash tool. I have noticed that there is a flash boot option on tablet but flashtool did nothing in that mode. So I have been trying the apps like flashify to flash recovery directly and haven't been successful yet. Any suggestions are more than welcome at this point.
Lenovo A10-70F 4.4.4 KitKat Rooted
Installed recovery without a pc
Was finally able to install carliv (google it) up and running after trying every recovery image I could find.
First I backup up the stock recovery with rashr flashing tool then flashed the carliv img and boom a recovery solution. Tried many images from the internet and the non-touch version of carliv is the only one that would run.

Would you care to tell us which version worked on your device? Nowhere do I see it compatible with the MTK 8165 that's running in this device. Also, the links I followed on xda only mention a touch version of the recovery. Am I missing something?
I'm hoping not to have to spend weeks experimenting to be able to get functionality that should never have been locked out in the first place. I can see the time in the near future where these software giants will finally be sued for willfully selling products that are essentially, deliberately crippled (like they are now). Unlocking my Galaxy Note 2 to gain full ownership was a piece of cake compared to this.
And if I may, as an old timer, rant a little - I've grown pretty sick and tired of the homeland security-esque computing environment of the last few years. When I get too depressed, I fire up my old Windows 98SE machine, tweaked to run like Windows 95, sit back and smile at how easy efficiently I could do everything with it...
Well, enough ranting for now. I'm sure a lot more people are going to start looking at ways to get this device to actually work for them after Christmas, as more people get it considering its great hardware features for the price and we'll get more input on these threads.
Keep up the good work folks, I'll keep looking on my end.
Well, after reading a lot and trying a few things here's what I discovered, for those who have this tablet:
Fist of all, thank you Lenovo for making a tablet that is designed for productive work! I got an external SD Card and was able to easily enable USB Mass storage mode directly without rooting, scripting or any other shenanigans
Furthermore, although this thing is running Kitkat 4.4.4 and although I wasn't sable to directly write to the SD Card, I was able to copy created content from the internal to the external SD Card without any issues. It's just that one cannot write from an installed app to the external card (at least that's what it seems to be from early testing with the tablet in unrooted, original OEM configuration).
I've been collecting files and information and as soon as I get this tablet fully under my control with root and a custom recovery I'll make a write up on it here if there is any interest.
Now if I could only find a way to turn down those impossibly garish colors in my pictures... For now it will have to wait, got stuff to take care at the house now, mess has been accumulating since I got the tablet a few days ago
Sorry I don't recall where I got the recover from it was some German sight. The non-touch version was all I was able to get to work.Play store has apps to fix the read only external sdcard.

No problemo, I found it on the Russian Lenovo Forum, after reading this thread on xda-developers in its entirety (a MUST READ IMO) and a couple of other online postings elsewhere.
Basically, the recovery for kitkat (4.4.4) is here, for Lollipop 5.0.2 you need to use the one in that thread. Use Google Translate if you must, it's in the Russian.
I'm not sure why you couldn't get touch to work, and if you're worried because it's for the L version of the tablet originally (the tablet version with cellular data), although posted for the A10-70L (WiFi and Cellular version), it's been tested to work on the A10-70F by this new guy in this post, who succeded in rooting his Lollipop updated tablet, he's written a very nice summary of the whole procedure, so that's good enough for me.
I'll see how it goes as soon as I get my SD Card, which should be in a few days.
For those who wonder about this recovery, I've checked a few youtube videos, it's based it's based on ClockWorkMod, so if you're familiar with it you'll feel right at home. Just make sure you get the right recovery version for your tablet's android version

Thank you for the good wishes
I found a great video online for backing up your own ROM http://bit.ly/1J6x6ruhere and am doing that next while the turkey is cooking and report back afterwards
Since my ROM is a slightly different version from the one posted before I thought it would ne best to make my own to make sure I don't run into problems should I need to get warranty service.
The instructions make it a very simple process, the only thing that isn't clear is what to do to make the tablet read and writable, since in that video you're supposed to remove the battery, which can't be done on our machines. I presume a simple power off should do. I'll be back when it's done.

I just back up in Carlviv. The only issue is it does not see my external sdcard. So it takes up lots of room on the device.

Indeed - and it's difficult to understand why considering the SDCard can easily made writable - But you can move the backup later if you so wish. I just don't like the idea having to shuffle everything all the time. It's a huge annoyance.
I guess the only solution for now is to move on to lollipop...

I have this problem too but in a more complex version, I need to install TWRP whilst in a bootloop to gain ADB access because then I can push the stock ROM and fix the problem so I was wondering if you could do this without ADB?

Added to the oP!
I also suggest to add a link to an international ROM of REMIX OS that also includes English as system language and the Play Store is preinstalled .
This is the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/k8ci6r38hmza431/i7-cx_remix-2015052202_with_Google_Play_Store.rar
The password is: geekbuying.com
Inside the archive there is also a tutorial and the flash tool
I hope this will help... I used this rom for my video review
I think that is also possibile to install Win 8.1 or 10 in this tablet... someone has already tested it?

All good now, found a download on 4PDA that got the international version of B2015092001 installed. Now just have to work out how to get root access as the original methods don't seem to work any more.

This ROM can be rooted the same way as the chuwi vi10. Follow the instructions on techtablets.com. For me this method worked flawless.

Found it and now have root on B2015092001. In regard to the GPS it appears it isn't working as when I run a GPS test utility it can't see any satellites however as long as you have it connected to a wifi network the tablet seems to have no problems finding your location for Google Maps or a weather app. While full GPS support would be nice to be honest I don't think I'd use it much in a tablet this size and I don't really miss it.
B201509001 with Play Store Results
I installed the newly available B201509001 from:
techtablets.com/2015/09/new-cube-i7-remix-intl-rom-supports-ota/
because someone mentioned better battery life, my most profound complaint about this tablet.
I can testify that battery life is considerably better, but perhaps at the expense of some functionality. I notice a few appearance changes scattered around the OS, but most are harmless. The big issue is the lack of GPS. I can turn it on in the settings, but no data is received from it by any application.
I don't know when to expect an update from Jide, but the Dell Venue 10 5050 uses the same Atom chipset and runs Android 5.0. I am not sure what exactly is preventing an update.
Updates from 4PDA:
1) We now have a working TWRP recovery thanks to users jemmini and Allegator. Version 2.8.7.0 to be exact. They do mention however that the swipe to unlock function is a bit tricky so it's best to disable it in the settings.

When you unpack the downloaded RAR file it has script to install (recovery.bat) however I found that didn't work for me. so here's the way to do it manually:
Ensure you have enabled "USB Debugging" under the hidden "Developer Options" menu
Plug the tablet into your computer via the top micro-usb port (the one you charge it on).
Find the folder that you unpacked the downloaded RAR file too
While holding down the left SHIFT key right-click on the folder and select "Open command window here"
In the command prompt that comes up type "adb reboot bootloader"
Wait for the tablet to reboot into bootloader mode
Once the bootloader menu is on the tablet's screen type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Once it's finished flashing use the on-screen bootload menu to reboot into recovery and disable the screen time-out under setting
Go back to the main TWRP menu and reboot to system
2) There's a clean and stock android ROM due to be released tomorrow! Not sure if it will be KitKat or Lollipop but word is it will have working GPS.

LAUNCHER
Hi folks,
does anyone know how to change default launcher in OS Remix? I´m using the latest official rom (I7 Remix-B2015092001-signed) and I would like to use mine purchased Nova launcher but the tablet says something about no support for apps from third party.
Thanks for advice

Wileyfox

Hi, as someone who jumped over to Windows phone some while ago, I am now looking toward Android based again, mainly due to the fact I don't like the way windows is heading.
I have my eye on the Wileyfox swift http://wileyfox.com/ at the moment, it looks good bang for bucks and I like the fact it's UK manufactured.
I'm a little unsure when it's released as I have read some articles saying it's released today and others saying toward the end of September, I can't find it on Amazon or Ebay and the Wileyfox website although gives good information on the phones they are some what lacking in purchasing info, which I find a shame.
My other concern is there is no contact information on the website of the manufacturer, which always makes me a little uncomfortable.
Any thoughts on this phone?
Phone sites almost always wont have pricing details, because of the diff country models, and diff prices in diff places
Thank me if i helped ... ?

I went for OPO 64gb in the end. My concerns around the Wileyfox were there was no contact information on the web site, no info on release date although I did receive an email saying it had been delayed until 30 Sept, but looking at the site it's still not released, so lost some faith in them. Something didn't seem right about ordering from a company where there was no contact info for or even details on release.
Anyway, I feel I made the right decision with the OPO and am well impressed, good service from ordering direct and received quite a few extra's that I wasn't expecting ie case, screen protectors.

I just bought a Wileyfox Swift through Amazon pre-order. It came as promised and is a sweet device. It is a shame that the Wileyfox home page has no contact details. I wanted to find out how to root the device. As it's Cyanogen, I thought it would have come pre-rooted but it's not.
Also, because of delivery delays, Wileyfox offered me a year's screen replacement cover free. To avail of their kind offer I have to enter the device IMEI on Wileyfox home page but.....there's no option there....yet.
Amazon,as usual, got everything right but Wileyfox seem tardy. Maybe they'll catch up soon.
The Swift is a nice device but I want to root it. Does anyone have any information about that?
I have made a big mistake. Try to flash a new official rom somebody posted in needrom, and I got hardbrick (qhsusb_buld detect when i connect). I am asking for any kind of advice. I have found some different methods to repair it with qualcomm tools but i dont have the required files.
Thanks for your answers.

rooting the wileyfox swift
Hi all,
found out how to root this device!
Here the steps:
1) download supersu zip from here
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
2) save it to your external sdcard
3) follow the steps on this site until recovery is started.
Do NOT flash the Cyanogenmod, only the recovery!!!
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_crackling
4) reboot directly into recovery. Normal system boot reinstalls stock recovery.
5) install supersu update zip from recovery menu
6) reboot and enjoy root access

This query is aimed at Swift owners using CyanogenOS: Is the pulsing of notification LED natively supported? If not, have you tried apps that enable this feature?

I have successfully rooted my Wilefox swift using that method. I did not even flash the new recovery - I simply booted into it and flashed supersu

It has native LED support, which actually works very well. On my Nexus 4 I used to use Lightflow, but with the Wileyfox I've not needed to use a separate app.

That's intersting. My stock recovery always complained about wrong signature of the update, so I had to use the CM recovery.
Now as I've got root I can read out the ROM. Does anybody know how to build the ROM image so that it could be flashed by recovery to restore the device?

The stock recovery does complain about the wrong signature...so I did USE the CM recover, but I did not flash it, I simply booted into it with:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
This allowed me to flash without replacing the stock recovery
Hey guys, I've followed all the instructions (adb, fastboot etc, fastboot is installed and working correctly etc), but when I try installing the recovery (for cm12.1) it says the system cannot find the file specified?
Any suggestions?
Or is there any other way that I could install the recovery?
I'd really like to start using the 12.1 nightlies
Kind Regards

Because it's CyanogenOS which has no root option. Only CyanogenMod has this option.

What do you mean with installing the recovery? You download the recovery image to your PC and flash the img file using fastboot. Then reboot and press the power and vol- buttons together.

Thanks, Nigel and Olli_o - great work...
Has anyone been able to successfully do this on the Storm (not the swift)? If not, does anyone have any reason to believe it will/wont work?
Loving my new phone, but screwed by it not having root, and really don't want to brick it after 3 days...
TIA,
Neon
Seems that the Wileyfox Swift still has the Stagefright bug number CVE-2015-6602. Does anybody know if Wileyfox will deliver a CyanogenOS update for that?
