Hey All,
Sprint Edge. When I am listening to music via headphones and I hit "send" for an SMS, the phone stutters a bit, plays a less than a second of whatever music I am listening to, then sends the SMS. Incoming SMS don't affect it, and I can use all the rest of the phone without any real issue.
I'm using Poweramp and EvolveSMS. Contacts+ did the same. I have fiddled with all the Poweramp settings, increase buffer, et cetera, does anyone have any ideas?
I can't have a lil "notification" in the office every time I send a message.
Thanks again!
I can confirm I do not have this issue with Google messenger and any music app I use. I usually use Xbox Music or Milk Music.
If I had to guess I'd say the problem is with Evolve SMS. Idk much about that app though.
Easy way to test though. Try using the stock messenger app that came with the phone and see if the problem is still there.
Damn hell ass kings

Damn it. Here I am cycling through 3rd party apps and that was the most obvious test. No issues with stock.
Thanks for the reminder, time for more research. Damn hell ass Evolve SMS.

I hate the stock touchwiz messenger app for some reason lol. But I like Google's messenger app. And facebook messenger doesn't do it either, just the through the headphones.
You aren't kidding, it sucks. At least its easy to switch back and fourth. But I'll delete Evolve eventually, that's unacceptable, even if it just stuttered and didn't play music out loud.
Do I see that Google Messenger doesn't have any widgets?
Thanks again.

Google Messenger does not have any widgets but Google's Hangout App does, it can be used as your phones default messenger for text.

I have EvolveSMS as well. I get that little notification tone and it's annoying as hell. Too bad I enjoy the customization. Small price to pay I suppose.

I wanted to contribute my tiny tweak to the xda community as I have gotten so much from here.
When I first got my nexus I set my sms notification to the icq 'uh oh' sound. If any of you remember using icq before the days of msn and aim then you'll remember that sound and the distinctive keyboard sounds.
I made an update that applies the keyboard sounds, the dock/undock sounds and the camera sound. It also moves some icq sounds to your systems notification folder so you can use the 'uh oh' sound for incoming messages or whatever.
I have only tested this update on my nexus one running cm6rc2. The second file is just the sound files in wav and ogg if anyone wants them for something else.
This is my first update.zip and post so let me know if I can improve anything.

Nice. Been using "uh oh" for google talk for quite some time. I'd use it for sms, but I rarely get then so Vincini's "Inconceivable!"just seemed so much more fitting. Great share; I'm sure somebody will fine it useful and appreciate it.

Was looking for the ICQ sounds and came across this... Gonna try it out!
I have been using the uh-oh for incoming WhatsApp messages for a while now... Nostalgia... Started using ICQ in 1997... LOL
Actually, I met my wife thru ICQ...
Correct me if I'm wrong but there's no way to integrate google voice with the native sms app right ? (if I don't currently have phone service)
But is there any other app on the market that will let me use google voice to send texts besides the official google voice app ?
I don't like it because it feels clunky and when you press return it sends the message and that really bothers me.
I am not aware of any other google voice apps. I hate the return send too it never fails to cause a headache. You could always access it through the mobile browser I have better success with that.

At least I'm not the only one =P
thanks the web does work a bit better.
Is there anyway to make a web page as an icon on the homescreen like ios ?
Edit: I got , but is there a way to change the icon picture ?
So on my iphone I could have group conversations with 3 other people and it would all be in the same conversation window, I but now, on my one x, when I try this it just sends to everyone individually. It works on my friends droid because he has the verizon messaging app which isn't available to att users (I think)
anyways I was just wondering if there was a simple solution to this (I've tried two 3rd party messaging apps with no luck)
Yeah, you're not gonna be able to get that, AFAIK. The "WhatsApp Messenger" app does this, but that's not actual text messaging, it's an IM app that uses your contacts phone numbers to identify them, and can only message other WhatsApp users.
Just for my own curiosity, when you would do this with your iPhone, would all the other participants be iPhone users? Or would it be a mixed bag of BB/Android/WP7/iPhone?
You should check out the app 'GroupMe'.
Great app that can do either real texting or over the internet messages.
The catch is, you have to message a 'Group number' and GroupMe then forwards that message on to everyone else.
This enables you to add/remove people to a conversation.
You can make these numbers private or public
I'm pretty sure they support every os and you can also just use their website to send messages.
It's all free which is the best part.
This is one of my biggest gripes with Android ICS. My Galaxy Nexus wasn't able to do group SMS either and, coming from an iPhone where I had lots of groups, it's a pain in the ass.
Also, using 3rd party apps that require every other person you want to chat with to also have the app is not a real solution. GroupMe is even worse than the rest b/c if someone EVER had the app (and no longer does) it doesn't recognize that and just doesn't deliver the message at all.

The awesome thing about GroupMe is you don't need the App at all. You can use their service purely through texting.

You didn't read what I wrote. If someone EVER had the app and got rid of it then the app doesn't recognize that and simply doesn't deliver the message at all. This is even worse than simply not being able to message people who don't have the app b/c now the sender has no clue whether their messages were delivered to each recipient.

If I am not mistaken, If the user changed his settings through the web interface he could set it up to be texting only again.
I have never ran in to this issue personally. When I removed the App from my phone I would still get the messages, just not through texts until I switched the settings.
Sorry for not fully understanding the first time.
Does anyone know how to disable SMS from going to the Hangout app on an IPhone? Since I have an Nexus 5 now and all SMS,MMS go through Hangouts. When I send a text to my wife they go to her Hangout app instead of her default messaging.. She doesnt want them to the Hangout app she wants them to go to here regular messaging app like it did on my SGSIII. We have Hangouts so we can be able to video chat when Im at work.

Can't you just use another app for your texting? Handcent is nice. You can probably even find the ole standard Messages app easy enough.

its strange that this issue would even exist. if i use hangouts to message my wife, and she's using the stock android messenger, my texts don't go arrive via the hangouts app on her device. i dont know why it would be different on an iphone. i wonder if its a setting on your wife's iphone hangouts app. you check? the issue is definitely with the app/device on her end. i'll do some looking around.

My best guess is that this has something to do with iMessaging. But I don't know what or how, if so.

agreed. i kow nothing about apple stuff except that when my wife finally switched from apple devices, it was a total pain in the ass. her phone, even with the sim card out, would intercept her text messages. this prevented her from getting any texts on her android. had to straighten that out. what a joke.
there must be something in her system settings, imessage settings or hangouts, etc. i'd start looking there.
I fixed the problem, I need to text to her number not her email. Email is for hangouts, number is for standard texting on IPhone. Thanks for the help guys.
Prior to owning the Nexus 5, I remember always having an option to attach video, picture, or voice memos straight from the text message app.. is there a way to do this with Hangouts?
You can try textra it is free and allows you to do all of this.
Thanks for the reply.. I'm looking for more of a workaround for Hangouts rather than a replacement.. Looks like there's no way to do it..

Yeah. I was really bummed when I found out Hangouts couldn't send anything other than pictures. iMessage on the stupid iPhone can do it. I don't see why Hangouts can't send videos since you're using a data connection and not the phone signal like SMS or MMS.
This is an old thread but I really want this feature! It would be super handy for people who work together but don't want to call and text all the time. Walkie talkie style, I suppose.
Can't understand why they don't have this feature either. I have a group with my children's grandparents and want to send them voice recordings and videos of the kiddies.
This is because google want you to send videos through Google plus so won't let you do it through hangouts. It's not good tbh as a lot of my friends won't use hangouts because of it. I hate messenger but if facebook does it then google should
Agree with all of you. I really want the ability to send a short video or audio clip in Hangouts. Too bad some genius at Google can't figure it out how to that yet.
I have a feeling those from Google don't use Hangouts for messaging. They created a product with crippled features.
Bump it up!
