I wanted to contribute my tiny tweak to the xda community as I have gotten so much from here.
When I first got my nexus I set my sms notification to the icq 'uh oh' sound. If any of you remember using icq before the days of msn and aim then you'll remember that sound and the distinctive keyboard sounds.
I made an update that applies the keyboard sounds, the dock/undock sounds and the camera sound. It also moves some icq sounds to your systems notification folder so you can use the 'uh oh' sound for incoming messages or whatever.
I have only tested this update on my nexus one running cm6rc2. The second file is just the sound files in wav and ogg if anyone wants them for something else.
This is my first update.zip and post so let me know if I can improve anything.

Nice. Been using "uh oh" for google talk for quite some time. I'd use it for sms, but I rarely get then so Vincini's "Inconceivable!"just seemed so much more fitting. Great share; I'm sure somebody will fine it useful and appreciate it.

Was looking for the ICQ sounds and came across this... Gonna try it out!
I have been using the uh-oh for incoming WhatsApp messages for a while now... Nostalgia... Started using ICQ in 1997... LOL
Actually, I met my wife thru ICQ...

Hi everyone
new to the site. i have been searching for this for a week now and i have not found a solution as of yet, i hope someone from here can help
i just got HP ipaq HW6955 WM5 device, the device allow for sounds to be played when new emails arrive but its not as per individual bases, is there a way to make it send tone alerts based on the individuals?? I'm surprised that it does not allow for this for emails or SMS.
also i be happy if i can get the different tone to work based on category as well as a work around.
thanks in advance
For SMS, you can use Mort Ring - maybe this even works for eMail, Mort didn't reply to my question in his forum yet.
[EDIT]
Just got a reply - for SMS no problem, for eMail not implemented.
[/EDIT]

anyone else has a suggestion? so far niter Mort Ring or Photo Contacts pro allows for individual ring tones for emails?
ttt, still looking for an application that would allow my mobile5 device to alert a different tone for emails based on recipient.
Hello:
On my old Blackberry 9700 each contact has a separate ringtone for the phone number and their email address.
Is it possible to have separate ringtones for someone's phone an email address on the Skyrocket without putting a separate entry in the contact for each one?
If there is a way can someone enlighten this noob?
Thanks.
Spring
Download the app on the market called ringdroid its free. It will also allow u to use any music you have downloaded as a ringtone. And lets u choose how long the ringtone is, and what parts of songs u want to use
Thanks silver03wrx.
Ringdroid sounds like a ringtone making app.
I have the ringtones on the sd card. I just don't see a way to use separate tones for a single contacts phone number and a different tone for their email address without entering a separate contact for the phone number and another for the email address in my contacts. A lost of extra work.
I like to know when someone is calling me or emailing me. I can then choose to answer right away or not.
Spring
Ringdroid does allow you to assign a ringtone to a specific contact look at the attached picture
Yeah i dont think that allows you to seperate the email sound for the same contact though
Hi Silver:
I don't think it does either because I have CNN updates in the contacts with an email address along with a certain ringtone assigned to it & every time an update comes over it plays the default email tone.
This is a bummer because I like to know when family emails me since we're so far apart. Had each one of the siblings on a different tone so I knew right away who it was.
I guess blackberry will always have everyone beat when it comes to handling emails with ringtones.
Thanks for trying Silver.
Spring.
Try WhoIsIt in the market place. I think it might do what you want.
Hello:
Whoisit didn't get very good reviews.
I also found Enhanced SMS & Caller ID, and Ringo Pro out there that might bridge the gap. Gonna do more research tomorrow morning.
Thanks all.

I understand your frustration, I am also a former 9700 user. The thing I miss most is the centralized Sound Profiles, it's hard / impossible afaik to have profiles setup which will in turn change the alerts and notifications for all installed apps collectively.
Hi Promise:
I'm using Ringo Pro right now. It will ring a tone for phone calls & msgs.
Haven't found anything safe that will do different tones per contact for all three yet.
Will keep looking.
Spring
Yes Disturb Me lets you notice an incoming call even if the phone is in silent or vibration mode. The phone will ring only if the incoming call comes from a whitelisted number.
Numbers are picked individually from your phone contacts so you can allow an incoming call to ring only if, for example, it is a number of office or a relative.
Supports App2SD, Samsung Multi Window.
Download from Google Play Store.
Awesome didn't Apple just make a commercial about this on their iPhones as if it were some 1 of a kind feature?
Edit: Yep found it

This is pretty cool, surprised it hasn't been done yet. Will give it a shot

This has been done several times, but I haven't found any good ones. Does this allow sms when silent?

I didn't find any similar app so i developed my own. I wasn't interested in receiving sms. Maybe i'll add this feature.
i am really interested in this, if i get whatsapp notification from this number even if its muted
Works well, thank you for making something simple and easy. Adding SMS would be a great addition! Thank you for the nice app.
Damn ... ads!
I'm using hosts and this thing crashes. I used a program with similar functionality, but forgot the name.
Hey All,
Sprint Edge. When I am listening to music via headphones and I hit "send" for an SMS, the phone stutters a bit, plays a less than a second of whatever music I am listening to, then sends the SMS. Incoming SMS don't affect it, and I can use all the rest of the phone without any real issue.
I'm using Poweramp and EvolveSMS. Contacts+ did the same. I have fiddled with all the Poweramp settings, increase buffer, et cetera, does anyone have any ideas?
I can't have a lil "notification" in the office every time I send a message.
Thanks again!
I can confirm I do not have this issue with Google messenger and any music app I use. I usually use Xbox Music or Milk Music.
If I had to guess I'd say the problem is with Evolve SMS. Idk much about that app though.
Easy way to test though. Try using the stock messenger app that came with the phone and see if the problem is still there.

Damn it. Here I am cycling through 3rd party apps and that was the most obvious test. No issues with stock.
Thanks for the reminder, time for more research. Damn hell ass Evolve SMS.

I hate the stock touchwiz messenger app for some reason lol. But I like Google's messenger app. And facebook messenger doesn't do it either, just the through the headphones.
You aren't kidding, it sucks. At least its easy to switch back and fourth. But I'll delete Evolve eventually, that's unacceptable, even if it just stuttered and didn't play music out loud.
Do I see that Google Messenger doesn't have any widgets?
Thanks again.

Google Messenger does not have any widgets but Google's Hangout App does, it can be used as your phones default messenger for text.

I have EvolveSMS as well. I get that little notification tone and it's annoying as hell. Too bad I enjoy the customization. Small price to pay I suppose.
Well, I haven't seen anything about this here, (my search-fu might not be polling the right keywords) but this is bad news ya'll. The more that I research into this, the more that I see that Samsung chose to remove this feature. It is available on other Oreo devices (not Samsung's though, s8 s8+ users are affected after oreo update as well.) I tried Textra, and I can change the tone for the conversation, but that's hacky, not totally effective for group chats, and it is not sending or receiving all of my messages. I hate the single ringtone.
Anyone else frustrated by this?

I'm equally annoyed by this. As many are from what I can find on other sites. Beyond me as to why Samsung decided to remove features. ? hoping for a fix soon on the native messaging app. I'll pass on 3rd party.

Are you referring to the stock SMS app? I use Chomp SMS and can change the notification sound.

Go to settings > notifications > messages and then it is by category one sound for general alerts and one for new messages you can change the sound whether it vibrates or the importance

The OP is talking about assigning a specific tone to each individual contact, so you know who's texting you without looking.
I too am not thrilled with this because I want to use the Samsung messaging application for its integration on the phone and on my s3 watch go figure text notifications don't work as smoothly on the watch when your not using the Samsung messaging application. Seems specifically due to oreo.
I beta tested the S8+ Oreo and requested this feature. They said that not all features may be included in the Beta but may show up in the final release. I was skeptical and it appears they did do away with it. It was one of my favorite features, I hope they bring it back.

I've checked out a bunch of apps, and I can custom assign tones to conversations (its not the contact that gets the tone) but that gets confusing on multicontact conversations. I setup a group sms chat with the family, but now its 1 tone for the conversation, rather than each person with their own tone. Very Frustrating. Hoping that the feature comes back.
The new android messages now allows custom conversation notifications, but it's not like the setting in contacts. But it is better than nothing and I'll keep hoping Samsung includes it in a later update.

Is this in the stock message application? How did you set it per coversation?
Just do it twice and it will set

Do what twice? There's no place in the Samsung app, or in Samsung contacts, to set a message tone.
No, only can set custom conversation tones in apps like Textra and Chomp. The stock app only uses the default text sound (or the one that is set globally)

Not sure what you mean, but I have done lots of things twice, and still no custom sms/mms tones per contact.
IT seems that Samsung might be paying attention:
