Hey,
I been trying different custom lollipop roms on my G3 but for some reason after I go into twrp and do a factor reset then install a different lollipop ROM it will start up with the screen saying android is updating like you if you would flash and update. I alos even tried doing format or delete everything option I twrp, and put a rom on my SD card and it did the same thing. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is that just normal?
Thanks

I have a rooted Moto G phone. It is android 4.3 , I cant update it to 4.4.2 Kitkat for some reason.
I saved Kitkat to the SD Card, loaded into Recovery mode on the MOTO, then tried to install Android 4.4.2 from the .zip file
saved on the SD card in my phone.
I cant get this to work and i tried to install CARBON ROM the same way with out any results.. it says ERROR and fails to install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO does android need to be updated to 4.4.2 to install CARBON ROM?
Thanks
I don't know but maybe can help...
I could update successfully to last minor 176.44.1 update only after flashing stock recovery.img from my exact stock ROM.
after rooting process on KitKat motoG my recovery was modified, restoring the stock one worked for me. I just updated ota normally in WiFi without problems.
after that I flashed cwm recovery.
I restored to stock recovery and removed root. After that applied KitKat OTA, then flashed custom recovery and re-rooted.
Sent from my Moto G using Tapatalk
this involve wiping of all data and a factory reset, so first try just restoring the stock recovery.
If not working make a good backup first.
If the phone is rooted, OTA updates do not work afaik...

Flashing a ROM overwrites system partition completely. You could have android version 1 running and still just flash another ROM
Hi XDA community,
I updated my One+ one to OS Oxygen lollipop (succesfully) by loading the zip file from the TWRP menu, but I prefer the 4.4.4 version (main reason is battery life), so before reinstalling the original CM11, I decided to 'clean' a little bit my phone.
I think I wipe too many things (like system, data, sdcard...) (erfff, I know, I'm stupid and make a big mistake, but that's not the point !)
Now, I have a nice phone, without any OS.
Question is :
How can I copy a new ROM zip into the phone storage to install it from TWRP ? (the only way I know to inxtall a ROM)
Or maybe I'm totally wrong and I need to do something else, but what ?
I'm not a total noob, but I'm really stuck with a OSless phone and don't really know what to search.
Can someone point me to the correct direction ?!
Thanks in advance

Hello,
Since last ROM you used was based on Android Lollipop, you can flash any Android Lollipop based ROM without any issues by just pushing the ROM.zip along with GApps.zip in the internal storage.
If you want to rollback to any Android KitKat based ROM, you need to flash CM11S firmware first before flashing any Android KitKat based ROM otherwise you'll end up bricking the device.
And if you happen to flash Android KitKat based ROM first and then suddenly changed your mind to upgrade to latest Android Lollipop based ROM, then recommendation is to first flash any CM12 nightly and then flash any Android Lollipop based ROM.
Thanks Mister for your answer
My pb was more about how can I copy the ROM on my phone, but anyway, I found a solution with the USB-OtG :good:
I copy the CM11 rom on the OtG key, plug it on my phone, and from the TWRP menu, I successfully mount the 'otg-usb', so I can browse the additional usb key plugged on my 1+1, and select the correct zip file.
By the way, many thanks for your explanation and direction on how I can upgrade/downgrade my device without brick it !
Long life to XDA
Hello
I got my moto g for over 1 year, i bought it in UK. I use custom rom's for 6 months.
My phone start work slow so i decided to wipe all and reinstall rom. By mistake i wipe internal storage too, so i try to put rom in storage, but my computer dont see my device. I fix it by reinstall motorola drivers and update TWRP. Then I put BlissPop Rom+GApps(which work earlier), and i flash it. There i have new problem because blisspop run and stuck on booting OS(i waited over 1 hour). I thought the rom was bad so i download the lastest BlissPop Rom. It going the same way. Then I decided to return to stock rom(I did not do this ever). I download "AIO_XT1032_4.4.2-KXB20.9-1.10-1.9_CFC_1FF.xml" and try to flash it by using fastboot not mfastboot. Then it stuck on bootloader warning. So i wipe all and try to install Marshmallow rom+kernel+miniGApps. It stuck on bootloader warning too. Then i wipe all and try to instal ressurection remix Rom+GApps. This like BlissPop stuck on loadning OS. Then i change recovery to CM recovery and i try flash cm13, after wiping everything, this rom stuck on bootloader warning. What i have to do ? @edit when i say stuck on bootloader warning i mean it bootloop on this
Try install retail Lollipop with mflashboot. Should get phone to Stock condition.
ok i got retail system but there is another problem, my wifi and phone doesnt find sim card
So you managed to install stock rom? Are you sure it was for your exact phone model? And you mean your phone don't recognise your sim-card at all (doesn't ask for pin code) or it just doesn't get signal?
yeah i install stock rom for xt1032 by philztouch. Phone dont even ask for pin and i can't turn on the wifi that like it was blocked
I do it. i install 5.0.1 retail downgrade it to 4.4.4 then wifi and sim start working then i flash stock 4.4.4 and uprage it by motorola update service to 5.1, then i install custom rom and everthing work good
Glad you got it to work!
I have a few questions:
1. Firmware and custom ROM difference. For example I have android LP but to upgrade to MM custom ROM I need to update my firmware which goes with bootloader and some other stuff for MM. Why is that and what's the difference?
2. When flashing a new ROM, if I wipe (TWRP) dalvik, system, cache, data and internal storage and ROM fails to install, everything is deleted including bootloader. Now it's obvious to me why but where is it stored exactly and what's the android OS storage hierarchy like?
3. Why can't I downgrade from let's say MM to LP directly by just deleting the MM and installing LP?
4. How can I avoid hard bricks because everytime I tried to flash a ROM on my zenfone 2 z00a I managed to hard brick it every time before finally installing it by following some step by step tutorial (I really want to know how to actually do it on my own), and it's a long process of unbricking
5. Are there any good sites that explain android system apart from reading the documentation on official site
Hey there.
So, my 6045 was on that awful MM update filled with ads, so I changed the firmware to the Panasonic one in order to be able to install TWRP and next flash either Lineage or RR.
I have no problem installing TWRP using the Idol 3 suite (Here), however, whenever I try to flash the Lineage zip, or the RR zip, it gets stuck on the Powered by Android screen.
I always wipe everything before flashing the zips.
I have tried wiping cache/dalvik after flashing them, and also not wiping. Either way, and with both roms, the phone gets stuck, and I need to use the Panasonic tool again to restore the phone to a functioning state.
Please help, I've been repeating this process about 10 times, and it's getting very frustrating.
Thanks.
EDIT: Is the version of TWRP somehow relevant for this? The latest version I can install is 3.0, from the link provided. If I try to install this one I get a bootloop. Please help.
Hi, u need to flash the MM partitons zip first then the rom . Look on AlekDev customs roms threads, he usualy has the MM partition file.
