[Q] White Scree with lines?!! Hardware or LCD? - HTC One Mini

Okay so yesterday I came back upstairs from doing some stuff downstairs. i pulled my phone out of my pocket and bam, there's a white screen with colored lines all over my screen vertically. Almost like if you would take the screen and stretch it as much as you could. You can t see anything. So i decide to see if the touchscreen still works and well, it does! I can even receive phone calls.
The phone is rooted, and has a cracked but functional digitizer, no water damage nothing. I have tried turning it off and on, and well in order to take the battery out i would need to open it, which i only want to do if i need to replace the LCD.
So my question is, Is it the LCD that needs to be replaced, or could it be the hardware. Any fixes guys?

Att Fuze black screen need help please! Not a bad flash issue.

Hi all,
I am at my wits end on this problem if anyone can offer any adivice it would be greatly appreciated. So let me give a recap of what has occured thus far. The water damage tag for some reason turn pink thus i am unable to get warranty exchange. I am pretty certain that the phone has never been expose to any water of anything of that sort, but i do live in houston, tx so might be humidity or what not that cause the tag to turn. Anyways.
1. This all started after i flashed RRE 5.2 RC3. Initially after a successful flash everything seem normal and fine. Then next morning i woke up to a frozen screen with many verticial lines running up and down the screen was almost unreadable. Initially i thought it was a bad flash or just random lock up. I did a hard reset and tried to enter the bootloader. Black screen, it does seem like the backlight is coming up but nothing on the screen. I can hear the phone power on and boot successfully into windows. Activesync connects i can browse the contents of the phone.
2. After flashing to stock att rom and stock htc roms same symptoms. So at this point i am thinking crap bad LCD screen. so I ordered both the digitizer and lcd screen for good measure. I replaced them hoping that a bad LCD was all. replaced both screens and i powered on the phone. same problem. black screen. The phone still powers on and boots into windows. Activesync still connects and i cna still reflash the phone.
3. I work extensively and do both desktop pc and notebook repair. I am not new to dealing with small electronic repairs. but at this juncture i am unable to identify the cause of hte malfunction. i am hoping maybe some of the gurus here might be able to shine some light on the subject.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I would have followed the same approach; your description makes it sound like it might be some kind of backlighting issue at first read. I'm inclined to think it might be a cold connection (bad connector) on the main board.
Silly question, what happens if you power up the phone with the keyboard exposed?
*EDIT* Not sure if you have been here yet: http://www.mikechannon.net/
Cheers,
i just tried to power up the phone with keyboard exposed. Powers up the same as with the keyboard hidden. Still boots up fine but black screen. I already have the service manuel dowloaded. i have checked around with several repair places both local and on the web. Seems like no one has any parts for the att fuze/touch pro gsm except for the lcd and digitizer and a speaker.
its quite possible that it is a main board but as the same time it might be something as simple as a ribbon cable. i have contacted htc about doing a possible repair and they want wayyyy too much for just a main board repair almost $400 USD.
Anyone have a bricked/ non working touch pro they would like to sell ? =P

Click to collapse
Could be a bad ribbon cable ... and firmly pressing around the front/back of the unit shows no change?
pressing the phone front and back show no changes to display. in a very dark room I can see that there is light emitting from the display but its just the screen is not displaying anything visable. this occured both before and after i changed out the screens. I'll do another visual inspection of all the boards to see if there is any bad resistors burnt out circuits etc.. but i didn't notice anything mentionable during my first 2 inspections. Maybe 3rd time is the charm.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far Hilaireg it is quite appreciated. All this venting has at least made me feel 1000% better than after i replaced my lcd and still same problem at least i don't feel like a complete idiot!
Sorry I couldn't be of much help ... you've done all the steps a seasoned hardware person would do.
Do post back to let other folks know if you get it back up and running.
Cheers,
you have a pm fkoong.
I have possibly the same problem. Phone got wet, dried it out for 2 days (in a container of rice). Phone worked but had "water marks" on screen that disappeared after two days and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then one day (happened to be humid misting rain eve in Charleston) the screen is blank (hint of backlight only). A soft reset and it seems OK for about 1hr, then blank again. The hard resest screen displayed OK (readbale text etc), but didnt work. But as I write this, I retry to document it results correctly and the NATF ROM is reloading and the screen works! We will see how long!!
Well.. not that long, the end of the ROM load and it went blank again, seems like a video driver problem. The Press VoluP to boot does show some red artifact.
Trying hard reset again (No SIM no uSD)
The NATF v4.4 loads and gives me the Tap screen, Align Screen, stylus, loads customization, opera, tf3d, then loads a bunch of files under ...... and then the screen goes blank again, seem like what happened last time, so Ill try loading a fresh ROM copy... later

[Q] is the screen of the I9105 the same as I9100 is?

Well the unfortunate happened and my lcd is dead. How do I know that the its just the lcd? the phone itself works beside the screen. I was suprized to see that the soft keys light up when I tried to see if it has any life left. had face lock on so I was able to get into it and hear the max volume bump noise. Tried to perform a blind call by pressing the screen in places that I think i should be able to make a call and whatdo you know? it calls! so I sat down to investigate more and i was able to get the adb running. problem was that with 4.2 you need to allow adb connection by clinking on a prompt on the thing it self to authorise it. so after a couple of minutes of just poking the screen I got adb running so I was able to screen cast it. :victory: couple minutes later I got Teamviewer working on it so I was able to controll it that way.
Anyway so much for that story. so I dropped it while walking a dog and it was in a leather case so atleast it landed somewhat softer. the screen does not seen to be cracked, the touch screen/digitizer still works, but no light can be seen from the screen.
I did took it apart cause I have no warranty. Sadly I'm no expert so I can't say whats wrong with the insides, but the lcd/digitizer connector looked to be sitting tight in its place. I did took the motherboard out and put it back after a quick look. Checked all the ribbon cables, everyting seemed to be sitting tight. So no luck there and I'm assuming that the lcd is just dead. Currently I have it in blind mode so it speaks out everyting I press
I was looking for some screen replacements and noticed that there is quite the difference between the I9100 and the I9105 screen prices. BUT the I9105 is basically I1900 with a different chipset? So I'm wondering if the screen form/chasi/cable placement is the same? if so than the prices are just obviously jacked up for the newer model.
P.S. writing this on a tablet and I type like a moron on this thing so sorry if your grammar nazi inside you flickers while reading this
Bump, seriously? noboby?

I think that the LCD Panel is damaged, it is not the hardware since your touch screen is working and colours can be visible on the screen. So just change the LCD Panel:thumbup:

Nexus 5 - trying to repair it. Screen? Other issue?

Hi
I am trying to fix my Nexus 5. Couple months ago I dropped a mug on the phone. The result: cracked screen. I ordered a new screen with the whole front housing so only thing I had to do was remove cracked screen with frame and replace it with new one. When I did it I turn on the phone but I saw only a short blink of the screen. After lots of attempts of I came to conclusion that I probably damaged the new screen or it was already damaged. So the screen is black. When I plug the phone to PC everything works perfectly. I can browse the memory etc.
I would like to ask you whether my conclusion is correct and the only issue is the screen which has been damaged by me or the seller.
One more thing is that when I charge the phone or it is attached to the PC beside the black screen I can not also see any light from notification led.

If the old screen can still display an image, move the parts back to the old screen to check for issues.
HI. Thx for reply. I don't remember whether cracked screen was functional in terms of displaying image. I will try to attache the old screen and will let you know.

Grey Static/Snow on LCD

Hi,
I have a clients phone, They dropped it into water. Phone LCD worked fine, touch screen did not function correctly, and the bottom soft buttons were activating. making the phone unusable.
I orded a new screen, and decided to test it, before installing it. After removing the mid frame, I plugged in the LCD to find a strange grey snow pattern. I disconnected the battery, reseated and checked the LCD cable. I got the same pattern,
I was positive the new LCD is faulty, but not 100% sure now.
I reconnected the old screen and have a similar but not identical pattern. I can understand breaking the old LCD while taking it apart, or getting a faulty new LCD, just unlikely for both to happen.
Are there any other connections I should check. What do you guys think?
