Hi I'm Mark a Web development student in my final year.
Basically for my final project were working with an external company that want stuff done for free or very close, this includes an android app.
The app im going to try to make will be private for the company to give out locations using google maps and gps/geolocation.
The app will be distributed through the site we are developing to certain users and not featured on the marketplace due to privacy issues.
Problem is I've never developed for android or any mobile platforms and have an extremely basic knowledge of Java but i mainly develop for web and windows using c# so naturally I have a few questions for people with experience in android development.
1. Is it possible to have the app powered by google maps?
2. Any suggestions of how one user will be able to upload gps coordinates to this app?
3. Rough idea of how long it would take e.g. few hours, few days, few months?
4. Overall is it possible, any problems I might run into?
5 Any Advice, tips,or better suggestions?
Thanks a lot for reading this far, any answers or help would be greatly appreciated.

Which Cross Platform mobile app development tools should i choose for mobile app development
Try Unity 3D. It offers much possibilities and you can find much ressources.
Super Wilmer
We've been looking at porting to libGDX which is java based, and can port to iOS and HTML5, since our game Super Wilmer is java based makes the most sense. But I've also been reviewing unity, C# scripting, very visual comes with a large bag of goodies. We are a small 2 man Indie team, that build games outside of our full time jobs, so are looking to cut down our development time, so perhaps we start looking at this Unity.
I think Corona also crossbuilds.
Anyone use coco2dx ??

I use cocos2d-x It is quite good if you're not afraid of C++ and want to make a really cross-platform game.
Cocos2d is great use it.
I use cocos2d-x it is awesome and with a bit of searching on their site you find an awesome documemtation
Sent from my P6-U06 using XDA Free mobile app
Just say thanks i learned a lot
As a user of unity since version 4.1.2, I can definitely recomend you this engine. Among other great features, cross platform development is the killer one - if you aim to be on many platforms (and I'm sure, sooner or later you'll want to), you can save huge amount of time with it.
Cross Platform mobile app development tools
Here are a few to consider:
Codename One - This is a great option if you’re a Java programmer and need native performance. Use almost any IDE you want.
Kony Mobility Platform - claims that is “supports the entire application software development lifecycle (SDLC) and enables organizations to go from idea to omni-channel app in just a few.” Has pre-built apps that will really help you get started but documentation might be a problem.
Sencha touch - is a great choice if you need more than 50 built-in, high-performance UI widgets like lists, carousels, forms, menus, toolbars etc.
These are just three option out of many, so definitely continue to do your research and see which is best suited to your particular needs and project.
Xamarin
You should use Xamarin for your mobile application development project.
Hi Guys,
In order to work on cross-platform application efficiently, there are some tools used and I will be mentioning top tools here that can work on multiple platforms like Windows, iOS, and Android:
• Xamarin
• Titanium
• Apache Cordova
• Respond Native
• Ionic
It is a very difficult task to select the best tools for our mobile apps because all tools have different features with pros & cons. Select best cross-platform tools according to your requirement. For more information about Cross-platform tools, you can visit us website Frugalnova.com

It really depends on what you want to do but you can also consider Qt if you're good at C++.
It's a great framework with lots of features and generates codes for android, ios, windows, mac os and linux.
I vote for Xamarin Forms. If you know C# it's best.

Suitable tools for your app
It is very hard question for mobile app developers to reply. But As a mobile app developer and as per my personal work experience, I suggest you to use Xamarin and NativeScript tools for cross platform mobile app development. These are popular and it has very special features too.
cross platform mobile app development tools
according to me Xamarin is a popular cross-platform mobile app development tool that provides app store delivery, performance testing, Virtual testing, and monitoring. Efficiently used to design native apps for multiple platforms. Developers can use the same IDE, APIs, and language. You can also use corona for app development. if any one else have better idea please let me know?
I appologize if this is a dumb question, but I am new to app development, altough some experienced in php/html.
I want to create an app where user fills in forms. The app development is easy to find info about, but i also want a back end plattform where I read the submitted forms and organize users.
So, my question. Is there a sort of ready wordpress like plattform to customize, or should this be built from scratch? If so, which platform is the best?
One note I should add about Buddy (full disclosure: I work there) is that we maintain independent instances of the platform in different locations around the world. If you need to host your backend in Europe (for response time or data sovereignty reasons, for example), you can choose your app backend to be sandboxed in the EU. Likewise the US and likewise China (with Brazil, Singapore and Australia coming soon).
he best way to develop mobile apps is to use REST services. So now you can choose any thing.
Any language that can used for server side programming can be used.
Now it is up to you choose the language.
If you familiar with JavaScript then you can try nodejs. You can make small app server in it.
But if your server software design is very complex (containing threads and synchronisation) then java can be handy.
But there is no restriction of language.
Firebase should be also a way to go for this.
The best android back end services include, Parse, Kumulos, Kinvey, backendless, QuickBlox.
Concerning the forms where users can fill up information, would something like help out?

On Apple's platform you might need an iPhone developer - it is quite possible to create and publish an iPhone app using your form.
I did take the help of mobile apps development service in toronto to know the process which is described here: http://support.brightcove.com/en/app-cloud/docs/step-step-guide-publishing-apple-app-store-using-mac
Thanks Carol for sharing such a wonderful article.

I have heard good things about Hasura (Not affiliated in anyway). And I think parse - mentioned above - is no longer available.
I'm wondering why nobody mentioned Google CLoud or AWS. They are most mobile friendly for a good price
Hi, if you will decide to build from scratch, there are different options/frameworks. But If you use kotlin you should look to Ktor.
Backend options for an Android app
Here, The list of good backend options for an Android app:
1. Parse.
2. Back4app.
3. Firebase.
4. Kinvey.
5. Appcelerator.
Hi All,
We have a mobile app on Android and we are now looking to promote this through Google and Facebook. In order to track the clicks and conversions we obviously need to integrate their SDKs in our mobile app.
However are concerned about our data privacy and therefore we are trying to find out the following:
1. How does SDK work?
2. Do leading players like Google and Facebook collect app usage data through their SDks?
3. If so what kind of data do they collect?
Highly appreciate your help on this.
Thanks,
Santosh
