[Q] Unlocked Moto G (boost mobile) - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just unlocked my Moto G. Now what? idk if i should get a customer ROM which I do want, but do I need to get a recovery and or kernel update as well? excuse my lack of knowledge in this stuff. it was a pain getting it unlocked since i had to perform extra steps since the passcode key was incorrect due to the fact the phone was upgraded to 4.4.4 kitkat. anyways it is unlocked but I want to get the most out of this phone, the service is of Boost Mobile
suggestions?
ty

My Moto G is from Boost Mobile too (xt1031). I'll just tell you what I did:
-unlocked bootloader
-flashed twrp for xt1031
-rooted
-somehow found out about Xposed (or was it on my tablet? lol) and installed it
-Started flashing Roms. I had Paranoid Android for a while but now I have PAC Rom
Before I unlocked the bootloader I had android 4.4.4 btw. I don't know if I helped but I hope I did...somehow.

Ok cool...So flashing is rooting? I downloaded TWRP and clicked it but it said "No mountable file systems"
What about Superboot? is that rooting a device? does it matter really which one i pick to root it? I thought the difference is in the Custom Roms

No flashing would mean "installing"(just to make it simple). I flashed TWRP ( http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/xt1032 select the latest one & I know these say xt1032 but they work) using Terminal; but in order to do it this way, you have to install android sdk first. Here is a guide to do install android sdk and flash the recovery
http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-like-CWM-or-TWRP-on-Android_id53914
I didn't use this but did the exact same process. Once you have that done you can root your moto g. I'll provide you with a guide shortly. Good Luck

do i want to download the Android Studio or just the SDK tools?
and TY!

Found one:
http://motogroms.com/root/how-to-root-moto-g-on-android-4-4-4-xt1033-xt1031-xt1032-xt1034
Download the "UPDATE..." file from step 2 and since you have a recovery now just go to step 4 (step 4 is done with a ClockworkMod Recovery so the wording will be different if you decide to get TWRP. I found this guide (which has all you need) too late but it's the same thang. If you need help, i'll try to help. Good Luck.

s**t I didn't refresh chrome so I didn't realize you replied!! Just SDK tools. Sorry
I also found out that the file on step 2 is outdated. Use this one instead: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip

ok I downloaded the SDK tool pack. and Installed it, opened the Terminal (on a MAC) Im not sure what to do from here, it said on the slide 3 (from the link originally you provided me regarding the flash) that I have to type "adb devices" and make sure my device is listed. but even before that, what do i type in the terminal?

I don't know if the android sdk and terminal part is the same on a mac since I have not done this on a mac but all you have to type is adb devices and your devices should come up (on windows).

yeah idk I have the SDK pack and TWRP and an open terminal. I'm going to call it a night lol, I'll be back on here tomorrow. Its overwhelming lol
I did decide to download Epsilon Project to use as a ROM afterwards. idk if thats what you do next after I flash this

Here are some images. After your device appears in fastboot devices (once adb recognizes your device and you "adb reboot bootloader") you do the fastboot flash recovery part. Once again, I have not done this on a Mac but I think you have to target that particular section in which platform-tools is installed first, then adb should run in terminal and your device should appear.
Found something that should help on droidforums.net:
Yes, it will display the current directory you're in before the $ sign. ~ means your home directory, or /Macintosh HD/Users/username/
cd = change directory
You have to change directory into the directory that adb is stored in, in order for Terminal to find the adb executable. Say you have adb in /Macintosh HD/Users/username/Android/tools/adb
You need to use "cd /Macintosh\ HD/Users/username/Android/tools/"
Then you will be able to use adb.
Here's the link if you want it: http://www.droidforums.net/threads/using-adb-and-terminal-on-a-mac.11989/
Sorry if you get too many notifications lol I guess this isn't wrong since it doesn't qualify as spamming.

Forgot to refresh again _-_ I guess the "cd" concept should solve your problem, if any. After you root (I don't even think you need root to flash a rom via recovery) you can install a compatible rom. Refer to the install instructions in the Rom's thread. :good:

ok, how we doing. not good for me lol. so i typed 'cd' and then the rest here is a pic with the result:

Do i have to do this step in order to use a custom rom?

No once you have a custom recovery you can do it from there. The only problem right now is getting adb to work on your mac. Read the thread in the most recent link I gave you. I'll look for another way to do this, probably with Odin.

No in the previous image you had "platform-tools" before the $ sign, which means (as of what I understand) that you have located adb in terminal; so if you type ./adb devices it should work. Do what you did in the image under and then type: ./adb devices
Your device has to be connected and you must have the motorola drivers installed in order for it to come up, too.
I think we're progressing now

[guide] how to root optimus net p690

As Lg optimus net have not proper section and as it is successor of o1. I think its right place to post this thread.
After searching and trying many forums over 2-3weeks i m able to root my phone successfully. As there is not a single forum here to root this phone i want to make one, to help those searching for this.
i thanks to "g0mezz " whose method for rooting another phone worked for mine too
First of all there are a couple of things that you have to consider before starting to root.
1. Be sure that you have installed the original V20B o v10c version software on rom. I have tested on these two.
2. If you have it installed and tried different methods to root on it do a factory reset before trying this one.
3. Be absolutely sure that you have all the drives installed when working with the phone in USB debugging mode, if not install them.
4. Download SuperOneClickv1.9.5-ShortFuse or later version( i used 1.9.5) , after download extract the files into a folder with the same name as the archive.
5. After you extracted the files, go to C:\Windows\System32 and copy the cmd.exe to the ADB folder where you extracted the files, in my case C:\Users\myuser\Desktop\SuperOneClickv1.9.5-ShortFuse\ADB.
6. Enable USB Debugging mode (Enter the phone settings menu>Application> Development and tick the USB debugging mode) and then connect phone to pc via usb cable. (DONT PRESS USB STORAGE) .
7. right click on cmd.exe from the ADB folder, Run as administrator, than write:
adb devices (press enter)(after this command you should see your device id)
adb shell (press enter) (after this command you should see $)
$ echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf, (press enter)
Do not close the window, live it like that.
8. Start SuperOneClick.exe, leave the settings to the SuperOneClick as they are when it opens, click on ROOT and wait, it will say Starting ADB server..., than it will do it's job and than it will appear Waiting for device... it will say ok and that if it freezes while running psneuter do the following:
a. Turn USB Debugging OFF(DO NOT DISCONNECT CABLE) wait until it will appear in the window again Starting ADB server... after that
b. Turn USB Debugging ON and after this trick it will start rooting.
After this it will ask you to reboot the phone, DO NOT FORGET, and after the reboot click on the SuperUser icon in the phone's menu. it will aks you if you allow or deny it's access. click allow. After this you must connect to the internet via Wireless or a apn, click on the superuser icon again if you exit it, go to settings, scroll down and you will see Su Binary v.XXXX, click on that to update it, than go to market and search the super user app and update it.
Also update busy box.
IF this doesn't work do a factory reset and again repeat these steps.
if this guide works for you do post replies and ...... dont forget to press thanks button
Doesn't seem 2 work. Keeps getting stuck at the point "Running psneuter" and gets stuck. Tried closing debugging and all that but it still gets stuck. Reset it 3 times still no result.
---------- Post added at 02:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:13 AM ----------
Did it!! Yes!! For those who might not be able its very important that in the cmd u write like this:
adb shell (enter)
$ echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
Give the exact spaces!! And it worked!!! (Space between echo 1 > /data ... like that)

Kindle Fire HD 1st Generation (2012) v7.5.1 Root/Re-Root [Confirmed]

Hello guys,
Sorry if this is redundant but I did search before making this post so feel free to edit or remove moderators.
I had root prior to last update 7.5.1. Lost root and I could not re-root using Qemu/Root Many/KFAide and I spent a lot of time playing with the CMD prompts. So I was curious and tried Root Master 1.3.6. Sure enough it worked for me in 1 MINUTE!!! So I am only posting this in case there are others out there like me. I found this post to be helpful since it had a lot of pics so I will not put up my own pictures:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783447
Otherwise, the my cliff notes of the install is:
Copy/transfer Root_Master_1-3-6.apk to any folder on Kindle via usb cable (assuming you installed drivers already, if not search forum)
Install/Open
Select Mulai Root
Popup with two choices will appear Root/Batal (cancel): Select Root
Another popup will show strange characters/Batal: Select Batal this time
You're Done!
Last step: Clean up by going to apps and press/hold root master to remove from device (it's no longer needed since you are rooted and I read it may contain some kind of script that sends your device information to someone bored, however the root itself is safe - I hope!)
Also, four common terms you'll see when you open apps that asks for root permission not covered in the thread above:
jangan tanya lagi - do not ask again
Perizinan - Allow
Tolak - reject
di izinkan xxxxxxxxxxxx dapatkan izin - authorized xxxxxxxxxxxx to get "root" permission (xxx is the name of the app you are opening)
I will post up my version of the file I've used but I believe the file in the thread above is also identical.
Thanks to all and this forum,
Nano out
P.S. Another solution working to removing the Special Offers Lockscreen Ads is to freeze it with Titanium Backup ($$) or ROM Toolbox Lite (free) both can be found on the Google Play Store:
For ROM Toolbox Lite: Open after install, select app manager, click on Kindle Special Offers, select Freeze, then Yes. I'm unsure what the advanced freeze is but my ads are gone and still gone after reboot so I'm a happy camper.
i also have 7.5.1 but stock. never been rooted. i downloaded this APK and followed the instructions... but it didn't successfully root it for me. so... now there's like a Perizinan rumah tangga app that i can't get rid in the app store.... so i'm factory resetting everything again hahaha i think it's malware

follow the unrooting part mentioned in this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783447
this is the best method of rooting on 7.5.1:
http://akauntu.blogspot.com/2014/12/install-custom-rom-on-amazon-kindle_26.html
so i did follow both, the first link didn't do anything but load an app and hten it loaded an app that wouldn't go away even after factory reset. great.
secondly, i used the 'best method of rooting on 7.5.1' and the only difference i saw was using non-admin to run commandlines so that made some differences. but i'm not i still have root. the major issue is i can't reboot into fastboot... so that defeats the purpose since i can't downgrade to 7.2.3, which is needed to proceed.
any other tips?
according to a few root checker apps. i have root... but i just can't reboot into fastboot

The first link I posted was to remove that app installed from root master where is says unrooting and "1.Open "Perizinan rumah tangga."
As for the second link, you should follow the youtube videos as well as some of the info isn't mentioned in the text. You need to make sure the kindle fire drivers are installed properly when using adb and fastboot. One time they were fine for me for adb, but when I went into fastboot, they weren't properly installed. So, I uninstalled them in the device manager and replugged in the kindle and they worked properly.
But since root checker apps are saying you have root, adb shell su -c "reboot bootloader" should get you into fastboot mode. Then you run that other tool to downgrade.
when i run that command i get connection io timer error and thats it. it will only reboot into recovery but never fastboot. i'm tryjng to make or acquire a fastboot cable. the original kindle usb cable is a fastboot cable right? i have to find it not sure where i stored it

you don't need a fastboot cable for that method. I don't have one myself and have no issue.
when you do "adb devices", does a serial come up?
yes i can run adb devices no problem. i know how to adb kill-server and restart the devices as well so it is detected. i have drivers properly installed as a ADB device under device manager. i can adb reboot and even adb reboot recovery but i can't run adb reboot-bootloader or adb reboot bootloader
and adb shell gets me non-su user prompt but i can't su into the root access #. when i run adb shell su -c "whatever" i get:
[-] connect ui: Timer expired
and that's it. when i run bin4ry rooting i get permission denied i'm guessing on places where it needs to get into fastboot screens.
bought fastboot and now i can get fastboot only through poweron process. which is good! i've downgraded to 7.2.3

Hi jmz,
I have a question here- all that was in your ZIP file was the cublock.py file.
Are we supposed to use this with the rest of draxie's tools in the HDX thread? If so, I was able to get an 'unlock.img' file, but nothing called 'unlock.signed'
maybe you didn't upload all the attachments we needed?
either way, thanks soooo much for your work !

sorry, with that tool you only get the unlock.img . I need to correct the post
In my linux box 'cuber' module, required by cublock.py, is not installed; is this the correct source? https://github.com/benesch/cuber
One more question: I forgot to block OTA update so my HD6 updated to 4.5.4, loosing root permissions. What I should do? Need to wait KingRoot supports the new software version or can I proceed to unlock bootloader and install twrp? Or could install, if available, a 4.5.3 recovery through dd? Very thanks.
I sense many roms being ported very soon...
Sure hope so!
I used the tools (cuber) in this post:

Need more info: Your computer OS, tablet device model (Settings>Device Options), Fire OS version (Device Options>System Updates). Tell exactly what happens when you run: adb reboot-bootloader.

These unlock instructions are for Fire HDs (4th gen). You need a fastboot cable for KFSOWI. Try G+ KFSOWI modding.
I am new to the tablet scene. This is my very first tablet. I would like to root the device and install custom recovery and hopefully custom Rom. Is this the first thing I do or should I start somewhere else?

Moto g unable to flash

After unsuccessfully attempt to flash identity crisis phone not able to flash any other rom seems to me bricked, any solution?

@lost101 i hope this could help him
it won't work that easy. On what window you are ?? I don't give a damn which driver you installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
just install the latest version from here.... Let it download and then i
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE USB DEBUGGING ON FROM DEVELOPERS SETTINGS
it will ask you for something like installing system wide adb and fastboot devices. Let it install at last skip the installing device software.
Now just go to c drive of your system or drive in which you have your window installed(drive) installed. Now you see adb named folder on the root of the drive.
Just press shift key first and right click then, you will see there a option of opening with command prompt or something.
Voila !!! you are now in adb .
To check you have right driver installed
give coomand like: adb devices this will show your device in the window...
if you see your device then type command: adb reboot bootloader this will bring you into bootloader menu...
TO check here that you are properly set yourself type command: fastboot devices

returning to 5.1.1 - after marshmellow update - help please

Hello good people of xda,
I recently like less then 2 weeks bought my first tablet, the NVidia shield k1 and I loved it. great gaming experience, support for my 64gb card, smooth work, good battery life but... since I updated to 6.0 all of that is gone.
My sd card can no longer by used to move apps too, formatting it to internal storage cause the tablet to "corrupt" my card.
Battery is dyeing like there is no tomorrow, tablet feel much less responsive, the list can go on and on.
Hence I'm looking for help and advice. I want to go back to 5.1 lollipop OS:
- is there anyway to make a rollback officially?
- what tools I would need (would I need to root my device or not??
- will rolling back void my warranty ?
I would appreciate the help on this matter, as since the update my tablet became a 200 dollars tray to carry drink around, and that is not cool at all (shame on you nvdia!!)
many thanks
Get your firmware version here :
https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source
Then fallow this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399737
Unlock bootloader
And instal your firmware by those commands :
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot reboot
Done!
I just rollback on K1 from 6.0 update to 5.1.1

You should try a factory reset first. Whatever method you use to go back to 5.1, you have to do a clean install, so, why no try a factory reset first?
Doing a factory restore doesn't reset the android version is just resets it back to fresh with android 6.0
What firmaware are you using. For k1 there is only extract-nv-recovery-image-shield-tablet-sb_na_wf-37154_590.0364
It`s correct?

Very simple way to roll back from 6.0
1) Get the software here :
https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source
2) Unzip it and you will get a file_name.sh
2)Unlock your device using this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2399737
Unlock bootloader
3) Install cygwin to unpack the firmware you downloaded from 1)
use thiscommand bash ./File_name.sh
4) Add ADB and Fastboot path to your windows system path
5) where you unpacked the file_name.sh there should be a flash-all.bat
run it wait for it to finish and you should have a shield k1 back to factory with 5.1.1 installed
If you face any problem on the steps above you can always have a look at this tutorial for rooting your device because they differ very little from install a custom ROM.
http://nvidiashieldzone.com/index.p...tablet-root/root-shield-tablet-v2-1-lollipop/
I found with any ROM, if I factory reset than got to recovery, than default wipe, than load new ROM but start fresh with Google apps 1 at a time. Sometimes reboot after each app especially if it is a new rom or updated rom in this case being marshmallow. This has usually solved issues for me.

thnx bro, I just watched someone unpacking the sh file on youtube via Linux, So thankfully i succeeded in unpacking the sh file on my kubuntu. At the moment I have a folder with 8 files that i unpacked from the original SH file.
I already installed ADB and Fastboot via the Minimal ADB/Fastboot programme, so after I unlock the bootloader via ADB/fastboot programme, do I only need to go to the folder where I exctracted the SH files and press on the flash-all.bat file ?

right click on flash-all.bat and click on "edit" you can find those lines with fastboot then started on order. After that reboot it. It will take 15' or longer to go to instructions screen.

Try this tutorial, it helped me aswell: Sorry I cannot paste links so just google "how to geek how to use linux commands in windows with cygwin"
Guys, I followed every step in the forementioned guides and how-tos but I get always stuck with the NVIDIA/Android bootscreen (the logo). I downloaded and extracted the Linux folder and executed the flash-all.bat
Did this process several times now. Often after the flash if I go to recovery it is saying "cannot mount cache". Read something it has to do with the KitKat -> Lollipop upgrade and a cache.img is needed?
I just don't get why everybody else just don't have this problem though I did exactly the same steps... btw, this is an European / German device... but I don't think this is the problem?
Thanks
thanks for the links, but it still does not tell you how to unpack the file. Are their any other links you can give me?
