Hi guys,
i just encrypted my n5 (cyanogenmod 11, nightly from december, 11th).
But on bootup, when i have to type in my passcode to decrypt my n5, no keyboard is displayed.
When clicking on "emergency call" the "back"-key doesn't work either.
When booting in recovery (twrp) the keyboard is shown and i can encrypt my phone.
What is going wrong? why is the keyboard not shown?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Having the same problem but with stock Android (4.4.2) on brand new Nexus 5. No keyboard displayed. Microphone (non-functional) or Emergency Call number pad comes up. Stuck. Calling Google next.

Tough luck buddy .. Looks like you have to do an "FDR" (Factory Data Reset). Just got off the phone with Google. Tried all sorts of work-a-round. Didn't work! Tried wiping/formatting the cache ... no dice. That actually caused quite a number of processes to be broken. Finally just bit the bullet and FDR'ed the device. Things back to normal but lost some vital files that were due for backup.
No more encryption for me, that's for sure.
Would like to know if any one finds an alternate solution other than an "FDR". Thanks.
Have you by any chance removed the stock keyboard and installed something like SwiftKey instead?

I recently upgraded my Shield tablet to 5.1. Was running 5.0.1 (pretty sure). Rooted & no problems before the upgrade.
I downloaded the update from Nvidia (through another member's link in another discussion) & also got the newer SuperSU (from the same thread) & flashed those through TWRP. Rebooted & enjoyed the new OS & still had root. Easy-Peasy! But...here's the issue...
Each time I power down the tablet (say for the night) then power it on later, it boots fine for about 15 seconds, THEN...shows me that Android is upgrading & is optimizing the apps. This takes around 5 minutes for it to optimize then final boot to the home screen. Each-and-every-time I power down & start back up, it does this. It doesn't do it with a reboot, only a power down then a power up..either immediately or over night. doesn't matter how long it's powered off.
I could've sworn I unlocked the bootloader when I first upgraded & rooted, but I could be wrong. Could this be the issue, a still-locked bootloader even though I was rooted with another OS, then upgraded again to another OS & still have root? I did not wipe the Cache after I flashed the OS & the SuperSU, just rebooted through TWRP. Follow me there?
I'll leave this here for your ideas to tell me where I went wrong & how to fix this. It's frustrating to wait for 5 minutes until I can use my tablet, even though it works just fine (& a noticeably overall speed improvement too!) after it finishes optimizing the apps (again & again each time.

Read other topics. Its an issue on Update 3.0 (Android 5.1). Supposedly it goes away by going to settings --> about --> system update --> clear update data (3 dot menu) but I haven't tested it.
Other issue some people are having usb otg not working.

Yeah, clearing the update data didn't work. It immediately went to "Android is starting" & optimizing the apps again. After a manual power off & on again, it did the same thing. And yes, I knew about the OTG not working. I saw those on other posts, which I can confirm that it no longer works. The OTG works beautifully on my Note 3 but when I plug it into the tablet...nothing. Doesn't even recognize it.
I suppose it's back to the previous version I have backed up in TWRP. I really need OTG to work when I'm using my tablet on my HDTV for typing on a Logitech K400 because trying to type with the controller just plain sux.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat. I never rooted my shield tablet so the lack of otg support and always having the optimizing app on reboot sucks.
I hope nvidia puts a pach out soon
OTG should work if you power on the tablet with the OTG plugged in...pain in the butt...but better then nothing until they fix it.
Hello all,
First, here's my device information:
Moto G 3rd Generation
Variant: osprey XT1540 16GB P2B
Android 5.1.1
Baseband: M8916_2020613.22.03.21.29R OSpRey_RETUSA_AWS_CUST
Kernel: 3.10.49-gd291414 [email protected] #1 Fri Jul 17 23:21:08 CDT 2015
System version: 23.41.44.osprey_retus_3gn.retus.en.US retus
Build #: LPI23.72-44
BL: 80.90 (sha-1e3d83c, 2015-06-05 09:55:30)
After running into trouble with apps and services constantly stopping/crashing, I tried flashing the stock image for my device based on the guide found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639
During the fastboot commands, I noticed that flashing gpt.bin failed, which from what I understand is caused by fastboot preventing you from bricking your device. All of the other commands went through fine, so I rebooted my phone.
However, just as the phone gets to the setup screen, I get a series of errors in which various google services stop, and/or the phone reboots a few times. One thing I noticed here was that the boot animation was different from when I first got the phone (it is the rotating globe whereas before it was the thread/needle animation).
Sometimes everything seems stable for a while, but then apps will start crashing frequently and I'll get random reboots again. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to include as much information as possible to help.
Thanks in advanced everyone.
Try factory reseting once

Thanks for the reply. I gave it a go, but apps and services are still crashing, unfortunately.
One other note is that sometimes when the device reboots it won't go through a full boot cycle. I.e. sometimes it will reboot mid boot and others it will skip the boot animation altogether and go straight to the lockscreen.
Hello there guys!
I'm having a really hard time here and i hope you can help me
I have the LG Spirit 4G h440n10d. I had the phone rooted with kingroot and everything was fine.
After an application install that was taking a lot of memory (hearthstone), my phone started lagging before i delete it. After the app's removal, my home and open apps buttons didn't work and neither did the volume buttons. Only the "Back" button worked.
So i tried to reset factory settings from the menu. After the phone reset, i had the LG welcome page in which you insert phone name, wifi, google account, locking methods etc. so i thought everything was fine. But this happened with every restart of the phone. It seemed like the settings weren't saved and my home and apps buttons didn't work again after the factory reset.
After this, i deleted some android files (i regret it a lot) from kingroot application and... voila!
...
After phone reset i can't do nothing and it stays in LG welcome page (i get a small message that "settings" has stopped working) and phone closes by it self.
I tried to flash my phones .kdz version i found with LG flash tools 2014 but my phone stays in "update firmware" page and the program's bar doesn't move (even if i ignore the server communication error).
I saw that my phone has locked bootloader and doesn't have a recovery mode. What can i do now? How can i install a clean firmware to it? I'm willing to answer any of your questions and also i would much appreciate any help given.
Thanks in advance!

Heeey android geniouses any heeeeelp??
Hi
I have followed the instructions to the letter to root Android 7 on my S7 G930F. Installed TWRP & all the relevant files, flashed through TWRP & then flashed verity & SuperSU. It worked, in as far as the phone rebooted, but my Wifi won't switch on (nor will bluetooth, data or any other connection) & when I type, the letters overwrite each other.
I can cope with the overwriting, as I could get through the setup & then install Swiftkey Keyboard & log into my Samsung & Google accounts using that, but the connections just refuse to turn on. So I've had to reflash back to the original stock ROM as below (from Sammobile, as my phone has not had the update sent to me yet).
Anyone else had this problem? Not seen it anywhere else (so far).
Samsung Galaxy S7 G930F (UK)
Android 7.0
Baseband: G930FXXU1BPHJ
Build No: NRD90M.G930FXXU1DQB7
Security Patch Level 1st Feb 2017
Thanks

Hi
How did you upgraded to Nougat? I see that your modem is still on Marsmellow
Hi Max
I downloaded the latest Nougat firmware from Sammobile (the one for UK/Ireland & HG3 is the same one, my network is 3 but my phone is European unlocked) & flashed it. Are you saying it's the modem that's the problem?
Thanks

Hi
That baseband seems old , when you upgraded your phone what files did you use . usually you have 5 files , from those 5 you use 4 ,AP BL & CP + home_csc or CSC ......CSC will factory reset your phone , home_csc will not reset your phone if it is the same as the one in your phone
Hi Max
Ah hah, when I flashed the ROM, I only used the biggest file, didn't touch the others. Maybe I should try to flash it again with the other files too, as you've suggested. That's not mentioned in any instructions I've seen. I'm sort of halfway between a novice & an almost medium novice with regard to this kind of thing.
I will give that a go tonight - thanks very much!

Is all part of the learning process
Yes i would do so , flash the full rom
As guide you can check this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3369431
Good luck
Thanks Max. Unfortunately, it still didn't work. I took the liberty of downloading an XEU UK ROM from Sammobile (the original one I'd got one for my network, which gave me the 3 logo when I booted up, so I didn't want that). I flashed it as per the instructions with all the files, then I went through the root instructions. I booted up fine, but still the same prob - Wifi wouldn't activate, although the keypad was fine this time. Very odd!
Info is now:
Android 7.0
Baseband Version: G930FXXU1DQB1
Build No: NRD90M G930FXXU1DQB7
I think I may not bother, the S8 will be out soon & I intend to get that, so I may wait on root info on that. I've disabled the bloatware for now.
Many thanks again for your help though!

Hi
Strange... what error gives you? how it does behave when you try to connect?
Check you settings , avoid smart connection , did you check in a different wifi
Also did you try to factory reset , and wipe dalvick and cache from recovery
Hiya
It doesn't give an error, I've factory reset the phone through TWRP, so I get the usual setup menu - select your language, then it goes to the Wifi screen. Usually Wifi will switch on & a list of routers come up almost straight away. After I've rooted, the phone boots, I get the setup page, select my language, then the Wifi page just says "Switching on" & does nothing, just stays like that., nothing comes up. I've even left it for well over 10 minutes & it does nothing except saying "Switching On", so if I skip that section, go through the rest of the setup & finish, when I go back to connections in settings, it says the Wifi is on, but it's "greyed out", i.e I press it & nothing happens & it's not connected anywhere.
I haven't tried wiping Dalvick & cache through recovery though. I'm off work next week, I will probably dedicate some time to it then, I don't like something like this beating me!!
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

No way , never beating
Try to boot in "SAFE MODE" to make sure there is no app making trouble ....
Press and hold the Power key.
As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7 ’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.
I can remember something about there being a minimal setup for Nougat, but this can only be done by the stock recovery.("sec_csc.zip" recovery script in the csc image If you're interested. Apparently got something to do with default language settings which bugs out the keyboard) If booting in safe mode as mentioned above doesn't help can you please try the following:
Flash the full ROM again(All files in relevant slots in odin) but not the HOME csc with auto reboot ticked. The phone will factory reset and boot into the setup screen. Run through the ROM setup and only once it's done flash TWRP and root. AFAIK this only needs to be done once per device, after which you can factory reset with TWRP again
