[Q] Please suggest a stable and fluid ROM for a Dad!! - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to root this Tab for my Dad 'cause he is tired of its sluggishness with all the samsung bloatware....so I want to install a stable ROM (preferably 4.4.4 or lollipop if its usable yet) which he can use as a daily driver. Since he works, I won't get much time with his Tab to experiment it to know for myself.
Can you please suggest 2-3 ROMs that I can try tonight?

Slim, Dhollmen or Markos CM11......Only try 4.4.4 Roms (which those all are) They are all very stable. Follow OP directions and you;ll be good to go.

CM11 running 4.4.4 is your best bet, just plain android with no bloat, no bells, no whistles.

+1 for Slim, ran SlimKat for ages and now on SlimLP which rocks for Alpha.

Kernel?
I'm in a similar position as OP!
I need to install a ROM on my dad's P3100 as well, so I took your suggestions and plan to install Slimkat
Question is, What is the best suitable Kernel I should install with it?
Stock? or are there any custom kernels made for it?
Thanks in advance!

If you want Lollipop, I reccommend @Android-Andi's SLimLP. It is very stable (at least for me).

If stability is a factor for a user that doesn't want to troubleshoot the tablet every time they go to use it stay away from lollipop, these dinosaur tabs can't handle lollipop, kitkat is as good as it gets.

Rooting Question for New S3 User

I got my new black verizon s3 yesterday and i love it, buttery smooth. I was coming from a HTC Thunderbolt. I had rooted my thunderbolt, however since rooting that phone, i noticed that data connectivity didnt seem to be as stable as the non rooted version of that phone.
Here is my question, do you guys recommend rooting this S3 phone? Has it effected the data connectivity (dropped signals, etc)? Some advice and direction for this new S3 user would be helpful from some of you all who have been S3 users for a while. Thank you!
I would recommend rooting since there is a lot of support for the device. Data should be fine but there have been some problems either user related mistakes or bugs in a ROM. Those problems are fixable. Most of the ROMs are stable even the 4.2 ROMs.
i rooted and i think its worth it. it is easy to do and pretty low risk. I did mainly because i wanted to under clock and get better battery life. I haven't noticed any issues regarding loss of data or anything. i run into some issues at times because i try different kernals and roms that are not 100% in their stable phase. But the act of rooting itself isn't going to cause you any issues.
thanks guys, i am going to root the phone tonight after work. i browsed thru the rooting instructions for the jellybean update software (which i got when i activated my phone). I just didnt want to run into unstable data connections like i had with my thunderbolt.
Can you guys recommend any good 4.1 Roms as well as 4.2 roms? Also what is the difference between android 4.1 & 4.2?
It depends on the ROM as all 4.2 ROMs as of now are AOSP ROMs while the 4.1 ROMs are either TW based or AOSP based.
TW is ok... better then Sense IMO, however I like the stock ASOP feel. I will give a 4.2 rom a try. can you recommend a popular, 100% working 4.2 ROM? I looked in the dev section and there are so many Roms to choose from........ 24 hours of having my S3 and i LOVE it! so buttery smooth!
Blackbean 7 Is the most stable of the bunch as of now.
Ok. If you are going to root and Rom there are some things you need to know.
Your going to want to unlock your boot loader. And make an imei backup incase you lose it during a flash.
Search those up and get them done and your good to go

Do you mean Cm 10.1? Because if you flashed cm10 you're still on 4.1. Cm10 has a stable release while cm10.1 is still on nightlies. I've been running 10.1 nightlies for about a month and have only noticed very minor issues. So minor I can't even remember what they are.

[Q] Rooting Tab 2 7 (P3110) to remove laggy performance!

Hi guys,
I need help!
I have a tab 2 7.0 P3110, on Android 4.2.2, and it is soooo laggy!
I have taken out all widgets, and uninstalled a lot of apps, but still it is very slow.
Will rooting it help? If so, can someone point me to the instructions to root it, and also which one would be best for me (mostly browsing, reading emails and using some of the widgets. No gaming or anything like that)?
Hoping to turn around my tablet and get a few more years out of it. At the moment, it is almost unusable with the laggy performance.
Thanks!!
Root the device is just getting the administrator permissions only.
However you can flash the new 3rd parties rom like CM11 (which you need the newest CWM recovory)
Or install some apps like greenfiy / auto memory manger from Google Play store.
These should be helpful to your tab to reduce the laggy.
You may also Google these to know more about rooting
Hope these help for you.
Thanks!
I am using greenify and memory management, but it is still not smooth. I feel it us samsung's bloat were which is mainly to blame. Which ROM would be best, as close as possible to the native android image, or perhaps better? Any links for installation would be very appreciated.
We can't tell you which ROM is best for you. Best way is try a few yourself as amny as you can and settle for one which you like the most. I would suggest you to check Samsung Tab 2 Android Development Forum. All Roms are listed there and installation instructions are included in first/second post of each ROM Thread.
I am using SlimKat Rom for last one and half years in my Tab 2. its stable version 8.0 now.

Cogbytes, have you ever tried CM rom (Whatever which version)?
I would like compare the performance between slimkat and CM.
Main difference in CM and SlimKat is features only. Performance is almost same unless you use different kernel (other than stock). I used CM for a few months too. SlimKat interface and tweaks are a bit more satisfactory than CM, but its my opinion only. Its worth to try to SlimKat stable version atleast once.

[Q] Seeking the safest, most stable Kitkat (with tutorial) for P5113

Can I get recommendations for the safest, most stable version of Kitkat for my tab 2 10.1 P5113 ... with instructions?
I think the slim rom must be the most safe and stable rom.

I agree, SlimKat is very stable and fast. I've been running it for quite some time. Tried SlimLP, but it still needs some work. As for instructions, each ROM thread usually tells you what you need to install it. If you're asking for instructions for rooting and recovery, well you need to start doing some reading. Here's a thread to get you started: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535083

I may be interested in trying SlimKat. Where is the latest stable version?
Android Andy has a super stable CM11 thats lite and has been my daily driver for almost 2yrs now.
Don't bother with CM12 it's buggy since it runs on lollipop, I don't think these old tabs can handle lollipop.
I tried lollipop and it didn't play good, bad battery, some apps acted up and I would get reboots .

I saw you found it, stay away from nightlies, you want "final" "official" or "snapshot" not nightlies.
Nightlies are experimental and cause stuff to stop working. They are for people that don't do anything else all day and night but play with there tablet.
You will pull your hair out with nightlies.
I warned you, stay away from nightlies. :banghead:

Use ROM despite EOL status?

Hello,
I want to flash a custom-ROM on my Samung Galaxy S3 gt-i9300. I found the ROM "ArchiDroid" and wanted to use the version 3.1.5. But now I found out that it is in EOL status. Can I still use it? Or are there any saftey issus or anything else because it gets no updates anymore.
If I can't use it or you just have an alternative ROM which you think is better to ArchiDroid feel free to recommend it. I am searching for a ROM which is stable and increases the performance. Those are the two most important aspects to me.
Tank you in advance
You can install cm rom

Thanks for your recomendation. I already took a look at CyanogenMod but the last stable version is pretty old. It is CM 10.2. So i searched a newer ROM.

Best custom rom right now for GT-P5100

I just found my old galaxy tab 2 10.1 today and I'm planning to install a custom rom in it but what is the custom rom for my device? I'm thinking on installing Slim7 but is it the best one and stable rom to install?
They're all similar as they use same device and kernel configuration and sources. Some ROMs are lighter than others.
They've all their own features, find a ROM which fits your needs.
You only also might want to give Android 4.4.4 or 6.0.1 ROMs a try, imo they run a little bit smoother.

Ok I"ll look into those and does GApps can also be the culprit of slowing down the tab? I also found that using L Speed and set it to performance or something really helps but I've never head of that app though
