Hello all,
I believe my TF101 was fine speaker balance wise on stock ROM. Going to custom ICS ROMs I suffered the 'quiet left speaker' problem. I followed the fix of the .cfg file and all was ok (thanks to those guys for finding a solution).
However now the world is moving forward and ICS is becoming old hat I would like to try JB, however the the speaker fix does not seem to work really on JB ROMs. I have been using EOS 4.2.1 JB ROMs.
Searching the forum there was a post (at end of speaker fix topic I think) saying the same, but there was no answer. As a noob :silly: I can't post in the boffin's timduru Development topics.
Everyone keeps going on about 'buttery' but with EOS4 134 I see what they mean. Smooth
Thanks,
Higgy.

Did you give the KAT App a try in addition to the Kat kernel
It has an Alsamixer in it as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841851 Kat App
Does that app help with a microphone issue? I haven't seen this issue anywhere else, but basically: whenever I use the mic on my tablet, the sound sounds really.... fuzzy and empty. I plug in headphones, and it sounds really distant... the only way I can fix it is if I go into cwm recovery and wipe cache. But if I try to use the mic again, sound goes right back to it's fuzzy sound. I doubt it's a thing with my ROM, seeing as I've use two jb roms. Thanks for your help

I had installed KAT Kernal & App. The 'Profiles' change sound. But I could not get the mixer to do anything.
Turning up the left and reducing the right 'PGA Volume' did not seem to do anything?
Do you need to disable TrueEQ in srs_Processing.cfg now that KAT App does sounds stuff?
Thanks for the help.
I see it seems microphone audio just cuts out for me as well. But audio output seems never better.

I've asked on the official Team EOS 4.2 thread how to fix this problem and never got a reply. I have the exact same issue. K.A.T. will make it "less noticeable" by boosting the right one, but the left one is basically dead in all TeamEOS roms.
I hope Timduru gets to see this thread and has some answers for us...
Edit:
Actually he did reply, I just missed it:

Tim updated K.A.T the other day and has now added speaker balance!!! Excellent work.
Hi, bought a Nexus 5 a few days ago, which is now running AOKP on stock kernel . Coming from a One M7 that was running Cyanogenmod 10.2.
I've noticed over the past couple days that the quality of the audio streaming via bluetooth to my car's stereo is comparatively much worse than my old One. In particular, I often get these very stringent, distorted high frequencies, especially when the music grows more complex. I don't recall any of this strange artifacting with my One. Could it have something to do with the better audio hardware of the One (superior DAC, amping, etc)? I don't know how much of an effect those would have on bluetooth streaming, though. Could it be the ROM I'm using has unoptimized bluetooth? Has anyone else noticed this?
I'm using the Google Music app if that helps anyone. Thanks in advance for the help.
The DAC and amplifier in the phone are not involved in the Bluetooth streaming process. Bluetooth is a digital signal so the digital-to-analog conversion is handled at the receiver end. The M7 does support Apt-X, which could have explained the quality difference assuming your car stereo also supports it (unlikely). You did say you were running Cyanogenmod though, and Apt-X is proprietary and thus I do not think it is supported in CM.
There could be an issue with the ROM. I know that CM11 is having some bluetooth audio issues, so AOKP may be as well. I would say a good first step would be to try stock and see if that resolves the problem.
Lastly, are you using the streaming functionality of Play Music? They did at one point change the streaming options so that it defaults to "Normal" quality instead of high. If you go to Play Music -> Settings -> Mobile Network Stream Quality, make sure High is selected.
Thanks for the tips. I tried adjusting the quality like you suggested, but I actually didn't notice any difference. I'm going to assume for now that this is a ROM issue and try stock when I get home.
I went through the arduous process of flashing a stock rom back onto the phone and tested the audio; there was no difference. I paired my old M7 to the car and played the same songs in comparison, and there was no question that it sounded much better. I think it bears repeating that the M7 is running 4.3.x, would that make a difference?
The issue comes up with upper treble frequencies, where it begins to sound very compressed and distorted, much like white noise. To eliminate all doubt, I played some CD's with the same songs, and they sounded crisp and fine.
Any additional help with this would be greatly appreciated. Streaming bluetooth audio in the car is very important to me and the inability to do so at a level of quality I would consider acceptable makes me rather inclined to return the phone. Is this a potential fix upcoming in 4.4.3? Thanks in advance.
I can confirm similar issues. My setup isn't going to win an high-fidelity awards, but I'm using a BT to FM converter. I do notice some clipping at high frequencies. For comparison, my N4 didn't have the clipping issue my N5 has, but the N5 sounds significantly brighter than the N4. The N4 was always a bit muddy on BT.
It could be an issue where the gain is too high by default. I'm not sure about AOKP but CM has the DSP manager built in, and you can adjust output for BT. Maybe play around with those settings?
I'll flash CM11 and see what results I get, thanks for the heads up.
I have the exact same issue. Will be following. I've found that the issue doesn't occur on anything CM based, probably because they use CAF drivers not AOSP. I'm currently running PA with Franco.
I have found a fix for 4.3 but I don't think it applies to kitkat.

That's a bit OT for this topic, but in short, unless your car supports A2DP you can't listen to music over that connection.

Interesting how you state that you don't perceive any issues with CM-based roms. I flashed 4.4.2 AOKP onto my M7 (which is coming from CM10.2) to test what the audio sounds like on it with KK, and I can confirm that the audio has the same issues the Nexus 5 has. With all the variables removed and with two different devices running the same ROM, I come to the conclusion that this is a software issue. I'm going to flash the latest CM onto the M7 later today to see if that resolves anything.
To say the least, this is frustrating, but good to see that there was a fix identified for 4.3. Hopefully that will trickle over to 4.4 soon enough.

If you go to system/lib/hw there should be a lot of files in there which tell the hardware how to work with the software. There should be one in there which is called audio.a2dp.default.so
To do this, you'll need a root browser or something which allows you to view root files.

I wanted to confirm that I don't perceive a huge difference with the CM rom, if at all. The signal has a hard time keeping the highs clean and sounds very strident at times.
Did you have the DSP Manager (in CM) set up on the One?
I have both the One and N5... I immediately noticed a difference in A2DP quality with DSP Manager on/off.
Wanted to come in here and also state that the bluetooth audio for the Nexus 5 can be improved quite a bit. I actually miss the audio quality of my iphone 4 with both the audio out via headphone jack as well as the bluetooth audio out.
Running purity rom + elemental x kernel
Is bluetooth the only way to play music in the car through your phone.
USB won't work? I tried it in my car and it didn't work but when I googled it some people say different radios might work.
As many us experienced, the OPO seems to be riddled with issues.
My biggest issues are:
-Multi-touch
-Ghost touch/Typing issues
-Camera. Often says it is not connected.
OPO has said the Multi-touch and touchscreen related issues are software. I was wondering if any custom ROM as already figured out the solution. Not being able to type quickly and correftly is extremely aggravating.
I know the issues with ghosting. It's really annoying. I've just slowed down my typing speed but it still gets annoying. It's likely a software thing. The camera issue is the camera driver failing to start. Happened on my lg g2 however the kernel dev added a button to his app that restarted the camera driver. I get the error when I use snapchat a lot. Besides those I'm really liking this phone!

Have you tried any custom ROMs? Found any solutions? Seems to be getting worse.. Really sucks.
The only way you're going to find out is to flash a ROM for yourself. Make a backup first, that way if you need to go back out only takes a couple of minutes to restore it.

Well I am pretty sure Camera issue is due to incorrect GApps installed (if you are on custom ROM), for me I have moved from CM to PA to Mahdi and never had any issues. In terms of typing issues there was a fix made on Mahdi (from CM commit I guess) and it has improved but no 100% gone yet. But as far I know it should be fixed relatively soon with CM update (big one) pending. Apart for multi touch i find the phone pretty nice actually Just my $.02

Awe bummer.. No time line for my suffering.
Although I agree with not asking for eta when it comes to a freelance developer, I do think this is different as they are no longer a developer that does it for their leisure and pleasure, but cm now does it for a profit, profit that comes from our pockets as we pay for the phone. So in my opinion, we have a semi right to know when what we're paying for, will be fixed
Not trying to argue. I agree it's rude to ask other developers for eta

Hi I came from the Nexus 5 community. Sorry if my understanding of the Oneplus is not up to the standard. Just want to know if the Android 5.0 custom ROMs are ok to be flashed? Do they contain any major bugs and are they good to be considered to be as daily driver?
I use it as daily ROM, and i don't got any problems yet, i update my phone once a week.

I'm using cm-12-20141220-UNOFFICIAL-bacon and the main issue I have is with the camera:
1. Using Cyanogen official camera APK, is slow / laggy and basically not great to use.
2. Shoot a 4k video and It seems that the 4k playback is laggy as hell and pretty much not usable. I use MX Player and I can't get H/W to work. But as mentioned, taking a video on 4K is slow while actually filming.
3. If you try to use any 3rd party camera app with Flash on, you'll get split exposure on a single image. Which means that you have to use CM camera, but again, this is a slow to operate. You can feel it's not smooth like using Google Camera.
4. If you use google camera to take 4K video, you'd still get the slowness while filming and playback is lagging all over.
All in all, this is my main complaint on using this phone.
Can anyone confirm these issues?

Most of the bugs have been mentioned on the last ten pages of THIS thread. For me, the slightly regressed battery life and the audio issues were enough to drive me back to CM11s. It is good for a Alpha though

Stock CM11s or Calkulins version alongside stock or Franco's kernel. Should be good with either.
Sent From My OnePlus One
Pretty awesome. Stock ROM. I'm reluctant to use the the Franco kernel because it said I have to change the build prop to keep root. Which I have no idea how to do
The amount of roms has started to rise. Personally I think it's time to create a thread that can guide users that find it hard to know what would suit them the best.
I'm pretty much a Cyanogenmod/Lineage OS freak. Nothing else ever made me want to use anything else as the daily driver. Other than having 2 identical phones available nothing can probably change that ?
Please help filling this thread with your points of view of why you use a certain rom. If possible point out both reasons of why someone should use it and why not.
So here is my thoughts about using Lineage OS. (consider this to be a work in progress at the time being, and please correct me if any claims are incorrect)
1. One thing with Lineage is that it is apparently trying to avoid is compability issues. One main thing is root capabilities. It's not built-in but made as an add-on. Might sound bad but making root a choice can be a good thing. More and more things detect root and might not work if detected.
The downside of this compability would be that mod support needs to be an add-on too.
The other problem is SafetyNet. A cat and mouse race of no end it seems. Lineage will never try to fool SafetyNet checks to make it pass. If other roms comes with built-in methods to fool SafetyNet I don't know.
2. It feels pretty basic and minimal. It has a smaller amount of customization than some other custom roms but probably enough for most. Other than Privacy Guard no major functions are added.
Many roms is based on Lineage OS. So if you like Lineage but can feel like something is missing you might want some other rom.
3. Some tools used for Cyanogenmod now exists for Lineage. For example Lineage Downloader. A downloader with build changes (and upcoming build changes) easily readable in the app. It can also save you some mobile data by only downloading delta updates (no need to download full zip every update).
LineageOS Changelog is a other nice app.
As far as I know not many tools exists for other roms.
4. Lineage is mostly nightly builds. Builds considered stable might not happen anytime soon. That might scare some users from flashing it.
Some other roms that has builds named 2.5 and similar, while still based on Lineage and other roms, they normally have been tested with several daily builds up to a certain point that it would deserve a bump in the version number. Probably less issues if you only flash 2.5 and wait for 2.6 and so on.
5. Lineage currently lacks OMS/Substratum support. That might be a deal breaker for some. But for me I rather stay ugly than add possible issues and additional battery drain.
6. If you want more options and fancy stuff in the kernel, like tweaking with Kernel Adiutor, some other roms might be less restricted and allowing more stuff in original kernel.
7. JIRA - https://jira.lineageos.org - site for rapporting new bugs and regressions for Lineage. Bug rapporting is only open on weekends though. The site adds a nice level of professional feeling but a active forum is always nice too.
8. Something something... ?

We had one working for unofficial builds. But none for official builds yet. This is the biggest downside of Lineage at the moment. Not sure how big the problem is to create a flashable zip that solves this.

Some report some issues on low volume. Nothing I noticed. Not sure if the complaints is about phone calls or music though, or if it happens with headset... Personally I would not specify any sound coming from a phone as high quality, but I am very picky about sound, on the border to crazy picky [emoji6]

Replicated the sound issue when using low volume on loudspeaker. This bug is reported at JIRA and marked as in progress. Probably exist in several custom roms.
Still haven't seen anyone complaining on sound quality in any other regards (if I don't count reviews, but that is about the speaker quality).
