will be very thankful
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Creating a ROM isn't a simple task, you need to have a good understanding of coding, a good understanding of Android and the many ways in which it works, a good understanding of kernels, and many other areas of experience. I'd suggest you take a look at the following section of XDA:
Android Development and Hacking
Take a look through the sub-forums in that section, and use the search tool, and you'll find many helpful tutorials that can get you started n your journey to creating your own ROM.
Good luck!

Hi There,
I'm currently in the middle of my final year project for uni, which is to create a custom version of AOSP that will allow users to clone the UID of RFID cards to use with HCE in versions of Android 4.4 and above.
Now, i'm going through some of the starter guides on this site as we speak, and following the XDA-University website, but I was wondering if there are any quick links to some dedicated guides to getting down and dirty with the AOSP code, and any pointers to help me on my way with dealing with the HCE Emulation part of the project?
Any help is massively appreciated!
Jay

Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately I can't find any custom firmware for your device on XDA, and I don't expect there to be any either due to the low popularity of the device. Keep a lookout in this section anyway though:
Android Development and Hacking
Good luck!
Thread closed, thanks.
Take picture with flash but photo is dark what to do
Without new rom and root access
Sir,
The XDA Assist Forum is a place where you can get help in finding your way on XDA. This is not a support forum, but rather a place to get some help by being pointed to the right thread. Our dedicated XDA Assist staff members are on standby to help out XDA members that need assistance!
The two firts posts located HERE and HERE explain the purpose of XDA Assist and how to use it.
It seems that you have a good understanding of where to find roms and custom recovery as it seems you have done all of this already.
Please refer to the Forums in which you located all the software you have already used. http://forum.xda-developers.com/a310 Post in the Q&A section within those forums to seek out help if you have already done your research and looked through the other posted questions and through the development forums for your device and have been unable to locate the information you require.

Good luck
Hi guys
i am new to rooting devices i have jailbroke my ipad etc but i have always had android mobiles in particular nexus 4/5/6
i am looking to root my device the sole reason being so i can use Hound on my phone. can someone point me in the right direction on where to start with this currently running *nexus 6 with latest firm update*
thanks for the help in advance
Hi,
Before asking this basic question on a very popular development friendly device, I would suggest you visit the N6 section, here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6
The General section has a Roll up Index thread which likely has the help you need, and there are other great guides and tutorials in the General and Q&A sections.
If you get stuck after doing your homework....you can ask for help in the Nexus 6 Q&A section. This hobby takes a LOT o reading. You will find it tough to get help if you don't read read read first. Especially with a Nexus device, where there is lots of info here for those. Also, the more you know, the less likely you will run into troubles with your device.
Good luck!! And I will close this thread.

Firstly, happy new year to everyone c:
As the title says, I'm considering making my own ROM for the SM-G731F.
I've lurked around XDA for quite a while now and I can't seem to find a guide that's able to clarify the process for me.
So I decided to make a post here,
The ROM I want to make should be something as close to AOSP as possible (for what I've seen, no Cyanogen or ROMs alike are available, so..), but my programming skills are lacking.
Even with guides about building or porting ROMs I haven't yet figured out where to start.
So here come a few questions:
1. Can I build a AOSP ROM for my Samsung device (AFAIK I need some base ROM right?)
2. Assuming that porting is not an option, is building a ROM from scratch a viable way to do this? (Even though my programming skills are close to none I've had some experience with C and I'm willing to put in the effort)
3. What will be the main challenges to this?
Cheers,

Thanks for your reply @The_Merovingian,
I haven't even thought of that (I know, I know), anyway, thanks for the tip.
Guess I'll have much to keep me occupied
I'll see what I can find then, cheers
