Hi, i'm kinda new to Rooting HTC Devices, but not to rooting android devices in general. I was wondering if it was safe to take the OTA Update to get the Latest Firmware / Radios Etc, and then Install Viper One 2.5.0. I haven't touched the Firmware at all and i heard from Team Venom that you had to update your firmware and so far i haven't found any RUU's that work properly and whenever i try to flash Viper One 2.4.0, i get VERY long boot screens and sometimes it hangs on the HTC Logo, like the post suggested. Is there any way of safely doing this to a Verizon Phone without loosing S-OFF, Root or an Unlocked Bootloader? Considering they said:
Notice: at the time of writing, both T-Mobile US and Verizon’s 4.4.3 Updates were not available yet, but announced.
Click to collapse
which i think its not true since people are already running 4.4.3 and Viper One Running on the latest Firmware, and they also said
While the Verizon and T-Mobile US guys need to wait (with “method #1″), the TmoUS folks could head over to my thread (linked above) and set their phones to S-OFF and flash an international firmware as a shortcut (it should be ok, not sure on the impact, maybe losing some WiFi calling functionality which can be restored by flashing TmoUS Firmware once it becomes available), going by “method #2″. However, Verizon: do NOT flash an international GSM firmware! You would regret it badly! Same goes for Sprint by the way. No INT firmware for you ever!

Yet on the Verizon Post on Xda, they point you directly to it like i'm supposed to do that, and when i try "Method 2" which is also on their Website's Post that Links you to their Special Firmware Thread here , They Say:
I will cover GSM PHONES ONLY - no cdma / sprint firmware except when i wish to do otherwise.

which makes no sense considering they basically told me to go there from linking me in their Verizon Thread. I mean i'm totally confused how your supposed to flash the newest Firmware and it doesn't help that NO ONE has a tutorial online for this. I'm sorry if i'm coming off as a noob, but Normally Verizon OTA Updates have a tendency to Break Root and Lock the Bootloader and i don't know if this is any different.
My Device:
Verizon HTC One M8 (M8_WLV)
4.4.2, 1.55.605.2 Stock Sense
Rooted, S-OFF, Bootloader Unlocked
It's really easy to apply the radio and firmware. Just follow the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2824882
Also you are correct that taking the ota directly will cause you to lose root. Once you have applied the firmware you should be good with the ROM
I have a VZW htc one m8, Firmware 2.21.605.2 and am trying to update the firmware to 3.28.
Every time I try to update to 3.28 i get the error FAILED (remote: 41 model id check fail).
I have super CID on and tried everything i can think of.
I would love to check out some of the roms but I dont have much luck with them.....might be a different issue all together but They get stuck on the HTC screen and do not load.
Can anyone offer any help as to get the firmware updated.
I tried this on ADB fastboot

You can not Update your HTC M8 Verizon with this Update who is specific for the HTC M8 Developer Edition *
new software update will come soon to our Verizon model HTC M8, we have to wait.
You have the latest updated software version 2.21.605.2 no need to update.
Another question then, why the heck would several roms just get stuck on the HTC screen and never load into them?
for example the Android Revolution HD 21. Installs just fine but get stuck on the HTC screen and never moves.
Thanks for the reply

You need to have the latest firmware for that ROM to boot...We don't have that just yet...should be soon. Only flash firmware specific to Verizon or you will hard brick your phone. SuperCID is pretty useless for the Verizon model for that reason.

You are getting stuck in those rom because you are trying to flash incompatible Roms* for the M8 Verizon, you should stick
with the right VZW HTC m8 thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development
also if you still having problems with any rom here then flash other Custom recovery
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m8_wlv
user reporting version 2.7.1 0 TWRP as working in all roms. but you can try the new one first.
You have the lastest build software VZW 2.21.605.2 , check your (firmware) Baseband version should be 1.09.20.0702 (new)
if you got that you will able to flash any Rom in the thread above
i just found out about this forum. i browsed because my HTC One E8 Dual SIM always fail when i try to update to android 6.0.

Hi, I have managed to finally update my Vietnam HTC One E8 dual SIM (MEC_DUGL) to Android 6.0. The problem that cause the error is the error recovery file, hence I re-install the RUU to get the correct recovery.img file. Below are the steps :
Note : Try with your own risk
1. My device is currently stock 5.0.2 no root and locked. Before starting the update process please make sure to backup all of your important data. Im using the stock HTC backup software, when you restore your device after you finished your update process, it will re-install your currently installed apps , contacts, settings, etc.
2. Download RUU for your device here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-e8/help/htc-one-e8-mid-cid-ruu-ota-twrp-t2903210
I downloaded :
[Vietnam][DUAL][M8sd][mec_dugl][CID HTC__059][OPAJ20000] :
[Lollipop 5.0.1][2.35.425.2] : LINK
Seems not match with my current software (5.0.2), but eventually it will do the magic.
3. Flash RUU. NOTE : You will lose all of your data in your internal phone memory. Make sure to backup all of your important files.
Steps:
1) Download RUU.
2) Rename RUU to 0PAJIMG.zip (the first character is a zero, NOT A LETTER O)
3) Put renamed 0PAJIMG.zip on your external_SD
4) Boot into your bootloader and make sure your in hboot and let it update its RUU.
5) No PC, no adb, no fastboot, no terminal is needed, just a root explorer to rename and transfer the renamed RUU file to external_sd
6) After you have updated your RUU, make sure to remove the 0PAJIMG.zip from your external_sd because it will ask to update your RUU everytime your reboot to your bootloader which it is technically supposed to do but its unnecessary after you have done it once (unless you are planning on flashing RUU again).
7) Done!
Source : http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-e8/help/htc-one-e8-mid-cid-ruu-ota-twrp-t2903210
4. Reboot your phone, now your phone is back to factory stock, connect it to wifi, no need to set up any account, just go directly to software update from Settings > About > Software Updates. Just install all the available software updates (5.0.2 > 6.0 part 1 > 6.0 part 2).
5. BOOM! Your HTC One E8 now runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
6. Restore your phone from the stock HTC Backup Software.
7. Done
Hello bataskhayal, can you please tell me if the update was worth it? Are there any bugs in the MM rom compared to the Lollipop? Battery life, wi-fi etc? Thanks!

Try Rooting and installing a custom rom.
its quite easy

The thing is I'm in the exact situation and I for one don't want a custom ROM, I just want to make the device work as it should and update via OTA....that's it. I have a very similar situation, I'm from Romania and I have the Vietname SW version...mec_dugl with CID__059. Theoretically just by doing the RUU update as bataskhayal did I should be able to do the update as well. If it's only a matter of difference within the recovery...

Hiya wihandy,
My HTC One E8 Dual SIM was a Chinese version M8SW which I converted to Europe/UK version and then updated to MM - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-e8/general/tedious-update-m8sw-to-marshmallow-twrp-t3346318
The stock Sense7 MM is good - I was using near stock Sense6 LL rooted and with Xposed framework before and must say that stock Sense7 MM is as good if not better than Sense6 LL.
For me battery life is better in MM but the only thing is unfortunately, I cannot use Xposed framework anymore :crying: Since then, I have moved on to Sense8 MM but that is a custom rom which you are not interested in. Still cannot have Xposed :crying: but have HTC's so called Sense8 which is even smoother than Sense7!!! Note this is just my opinion
If you are brave enough, you can try my TWRP backups but make sure you have your own backups or know how to get back to stock.
Good luck!

hi, every body
my phone is rooted & have install custom rom , what can i do if i want to back official rom?
Hello, after doing the same procedure as "bataskhayal" and "wihandy" I managed to install the latest updates (up to Android 6). However am I the only one who feels that the phone is slower than before? I noticed a couple of bugs with Android MM:
- gestures work randomly (most of the times they don't work at all) even with the g-sensor calibration
- even when I had Android 5.0 I activated the option which lowers the sound when someone calls you and you pick up the phone (it worked really well); now if I pick it up it usually doesn't lower the ringing volume and if it does the general volume remains lower after finishing the call....I missed a couple of calls due to this
- after a full charge the battery percentage shows 100% but after I disconnect the charger and leave the phone for 5-10 minute without doing anything the battery level goes to 97%....wtf?!?
And these are only a couple of bugs I found after doing the update.....is the Lollipop version more stable or only I had encountered these errors so far and it's a matter of bad luck?
Hi All,
Can anybody help me for rooting my HTC One E8 Dual Sim (India) phone

Hello there,
Thanks for your post, I have done exactly as you have said and I did manage to get MM 6.0.1 on my device.
However every time I power down or restart the device, its stuck on a boot loop. I get the apps are optimising screen and then device restarts and the same thing repeats.
I wiped the cache partition and the problem still persists. Everytime I need to hard reset the phone to get it back to normal.
Am I missing something here or does anyone else have the same issue?

I have the same issue with double to tap to wake. Doesn't work always, but I had it on out of the box 5.0.2 Lollipop too.
Pick up to lower volume works fine for me, don't have any issue with it as of now.
Battery backup seems to be better than it was on Lollipop.

Hello,
I didnt experience any bootloop after updating my HTC One E8 to Marshmallow, but yes i always get the apps optimising screen, but no bootloop. Perhaps you should consider to do factory reset with your phone, and try to restore all your apps and data manually using Playstore and Google accounts. The phone didnt slow down or lag at least for me. It still buttery smooth doing the usual daily tasks minus the gaming.
Yes double tap to wake is a persistent issue with the Marshmallow update, after few days of usage without restarting the phone, the double tap to wake function is magically not working, im not sure why, but this maybe a bug from the firmware.
I have sold my E8 so maybe this is the last post for me. Enjoy your device while its working because to be honest this is one of my best phone to date.

Thanks for your reply.
When you say you got apps optimising screen, did it just happen once and phone was good to go or did it keep happening with phone restarting several times before you got to the home screen?
So far factory reset seems the only option to get the phone back running once restarted.
Yes this is a very good device for the price, this factory reset to restart is the only bummer.
Enjoy your new device. Cheers!
