[Completed] Annoying pop up ads on xda lately - XDA Assist

Lately from the past 2-3 days I am getting some really annoying pop up ads which almost render the site unusable.the moment I click a link to a forum one these crappy ads come up with no option to dismiss and before u know it I am taken to their webpage.I thought xda had some amount of decency when it comes to earning revenue but the latest ads are making me look for substitutes for this site .please disable the pop up ads at least .u already have ads between posts and to the right of the screen always but the new pop ups r really hard to put up with

Hi there,
You can try some add block methods like in this thread: xda annoying ads

New to forums and jailbreaking

(tmobile G1) I was just wondering what are the benefits and the things you can do with the jailbreak. My brother inlaw has a jailbroken iphone and has been showing me these things that I would like to do with my G1. i.e... Theme sound effects for opening closing apps, etc. Also he is able to get cracked apps for his phone. If there is a list on this forum or anywhere online please send me a link. Thank you and I look forward to having fun with my phone.

Hi New2
Just so you know, we do not condone the use of or the requesting of cracked apps, this is fraud and not permitted on xda.
As your new here and probably didnt know as such, no warning given this time, but please do not ask for cracked apps again, we like XDA and dont want to get our [email protected]@es spanked
Regards,
Tim.

Can I get a little Help from the good people here?

Hey everyone, I recently started doing a tad of developing on my own, trying to learn java more and more everyday now. Im here to simply ask you guys to "Like" my facebook page, I dont have money for advertising but I would like to draw attention to it somehow so it can spread. I want to better everything and If I could get more traffic it could help me in many ways. Thanks to all who Like link to facebook is below.
Thread closed and moved. Driving traffic for clicks, contests, etc is against policy.

[Q] why captcha?

one more quation: why does everytime that I want to post something I need to fill the answer of a captcha? it's extreamly annoying! don't you think your security is just a little over the top?
and look at this: "To prevent spam to the forums, new users must wait five minutes between posts. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed. . I mean come on! for seriously?!
Dude, this "over the top" security is in place and this forum still gets ridiculous spam.
I was done with the "new user" thing within a day. I never complained I did something crazy - I answered people's questions. And the day I joined I was an even bigger n00b - so unless you're the n00biest n00b in all of n00bdom you should be able to do that, too.

Both the captcha and the 5 minute limit between posts are to stop spam, especially form automated spam bots. Based on past history they are remarkably effective at stopping unwanted spam. Don't worry, the captcha and the 5 minute limit will go away soon.
Thanks for understanding about the temporary inconvenience, they are really necessary!
Mod y u no close this thing down!?
Thread closed...question answered.

[Completed] Too Many Advertisements

Its impossible to view forums on a tablet with all the ads filling the screen every time you click on a link. Please cut down on the full page ads us tablet owners can't view anything.
You can try changing themes and see if that helps at all, but the better place for this topic would be here

CONGRATULATIONS! the page facebook dot com.prizes.etc. says: I won!!! PLEASE TTT

Ok xda. Its getting pretty tough to use your website. (without an adbocker that is).
I assume that most of your revenue comes from ads.
However the ad-videos on the desktop site just about slow my browser to a crawl for some reason. Never happens on any other sites.
And now whenever i try to browse xda on my phone's browser i get directed to a fake facebook page that tells me I won a "prize". Just sign your life here!!!
Once im on that page i have to close the window and start over. It has for the most part prevented me from using this site for the last few months.
I cant be the only one getting this.
I understand and am happy to see some adds around. Even if they're overwhelming. As long as they aren't hijacking my browser to the point where i cant use your site.
An adblocker helps (sometimes), but then i cant view the ads that give you your revenue.
It is very counterproductive. I love this site and would like to see it live on. But at this rate the doom is imminent.
If anybody has experienced this and similar please reply.
Thanks and sorry to B!tch...
Literally every other link i click on takes me to a fake prize.
2 words... C'MON!!!!
if you come across any more such ads, please post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696660
let us know which page and what ads you're seeing.
Thanks
