On my HTC One, there was a way in the secret dialer menu to disable OTA updates. Is that possible my G3? I'm rooted w/TWRP and want to stay that way, but the OTA update notification is always there and once a day the phone reboots itself to apply update. And then I have run FixRecoveryLoop.zip in TWRP and reboot. It's getting irritating. Can I disable the Lollipop OTA notification somewhere in this rooted phone?
Thanks,
Steve
Whoops, too easy.

Well that doesn't work. It's still notifying and downloading the OTA?

If you have the paid version of Titanium backup you can try freezing "Software Update" and "com.lge.lgfota.permission". I know that I never received a download and have not received any notifications about an update.

I have a rooted Transformer with a pending OTA update. However, my device is used for testing and I don't want to update. I want to prevent any future OTA updates from downloading and kill the notification of the already downloaded update. Can someone point me tell me how I would go about doing that? Any help is appreciated.
Freeze DMClient app
I unfroze all the apps I had frozen and tried the OTA and it still failed.
I am rooted with just the stock ROM.
Anything I am missing here?
I do not think OTA updates with the carrier is possible on a rooted phone. I know mine would not do OTA updates when it was stock, unlocked, and rooted. It would always fail.
No OTA updates will work on a rooted phone. If it somehow does work it will likely break your root privileges
ok that makes sense.
So did you just not do the update and how do I make it stop trying to update.
I might start running custom roms again. I have not done that in a long time.

You can do a OTA with root but you will just lose it. If you altered some system files it will fail or if you run a custom recovery it will fail.
I've had similar issues, on other devices, with ota updates not working because of root, and more specifically I believe, cwm recovery. Unfortunately I've had to use kies to update.

There was no option to update. Verizon pushed the update to my phone twice in the middle of the night without my knowledge or permission. In the mornings I would see the message that the update failed. I didn't want it anyway, and dislike the bloat, so I flashed to a custom ROM after their second attempt. No more OTA updates for me now. That's what happened with me anyway.
Yea I agree... I did not really need the OTA and I plan on installing CleanROM 5.6 tmr.
I just froze all that bloat back. I can't stand all that S***T running in the back ground.

Yesterday I received the KitKat update notification. I just set the update to remind me later and today, when I connected to wifi, my phone started to download the update on its own. I dont want to update to KitKat just yet. Can I stop this update from downloading? Or can I just let it download and then not install it?

Once downloaded it will keep asking you to install it.
Are you rooted with superSU. If so install update and it will fail (no harm done). Then you won't be bothered by it again.
Note - if you then manually check for updates it will download the file again and you will have to let it update/fail again to get rid of the notification/reminder again.
I dont have a root. So I can only let it download and the live with the install reminders. Well that kind of sucks.

I know its rubbish that the update is forced upon people. There should be a choice in my opinion.
Root is only option though AFAIK to stop OTA updates one way or another.
Hi folks,
I received the OTA update notification for Android 5 yesterday, downloaded it and while installing it - I received an error and the device restarted to normal Android mode (Kitkat 4.4.4 - Nexus 5). I dont know what went wrong, the OTA notification is gone now. And I tried many times for updating the device via OTA, but there is no update information.
Wanted to know the following things:
1. Does any one had similar problems like this?
2. What really went wrong?
3. Will I get the OTA update or should I follow any of the manual method?
PS: Device Used : Nexus 5 - running Kitkat 4.4.4 - Rooted via TowelRoot - Stock ROM
If you feel I miss any major inputs, please do comment, so I can add it.
TIA Have a Great day !!
If it failed chances are you've made a change to a system app/file which is why it's failing. You have to be 100% stock to successfully apply an OTA update
Thanks for the quick response !!

Does unroot help in here? How about unroot and factory reset?
Will I get the OTA anyway?

If you're the chosen one then, yes, you should get it again.
So I'm currently running optipop 5.0.2 and google is trying to push an ota update. I have declined but it still is appearing in my notifications and is downloading in the background. I hadn't noticed it was downloading until my phone alerted my that I had used 3gb in the past 2 days. Is there a way I can stop it from downloading/disable it? I've read similar posts and I haven't really seen a way to stop the wakelock/downloading,just the notification. As I don't have unlimited data, I'd like to stop it if possible. In addition, I have tried to accept the ota to see if it would fix it, but it doesn't install since I am rooted and running twrp.
Any suggestions?

? What's Optipop? A custom rom? Then why in the hell is it receiving the official OTA update from Google? Ask the ROM dev.
I know who wouldn't touch that stuff.

Yes, It's a custom rom. I have no clue why it is receiving an official ota update...
Yeah, I'll ask the rom dev to and see what he says.
