[Q] Install busybox Moto G xt1032 GPE 5.0.1. ???? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for the question that many of you will be trivial but would like to know how I can successfully install the Busybox for Lollipop 5.0.1 on my Moto G xt 1032 with Firmware GPE?
Like to know how to install or FASTBOOT or through ADB.
I look forward to your suggestions.
Thank you very much

One way is to download a CM12 ROM, extract it, find the busybox executable (probabbly in /system/xbin/busybox) and copy it to your phone to /system/xbin. Then run this command as root (on the phone using ethier adb or a terminal emulator):
Code:
chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox
and
Code:
cd /system/xbin/; ./busybox --install .

Hi, u can download BusyBox by Stephen (Stericson) from playstore.. Its just an installer.. Launch it, give Root access, then click install busybox.. I am using it in my XT1033 now..!

If still there is only this way I prefer to leave everything as !!!!!!
As soon as there will be something more concrete for my version of Lollipop 5.0.1 GPE'll both Root that busybox.
For the moment still leave everything as is normal.
Thanks for the answer.: Buono:

[ROOT] Easy Root, works with any Stock ROM (Including 2.31.651.7!)

Disclaimer: This is not one-click. However, it IS relatively short and straightforward, and does not require you to downgrade.
Credits: The 743C exploit, and ChainsDD for Superuser.
You need:
Android SDK installed and working.
The zip attached to this post.
If you're still on Cupcake (Android 1.5) you'll need su and Superuser from http://bit.ly/su2361cd
So, let's get down to business.
Unzip the attached file into your /android-sdk/tools/ directory, it'll make your life (and ours) easier.
Open up your command line, change to the SDK tools directory, and enter these commands:
Code:
adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
Now execute the exploit:
Code:
adb shell
/data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
Wait for the exploit to finish.
Code:
exit
If it doesn't exit cleanly, chances are it worked, just close your terminal or command prompt and open a new one.
Test that it worked:
Code:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb shell
If you see a $, it DID NOT work, execute the exploit again. (Step 3)
If you see a #, it WORKED, continue:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit
adb push su /system/xbin
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
adb install Superuser.apk
You may need to ctrl-c once it says Success!
Next time you 'su' in adb shell, make sure to click Allow in Superuser!
You may instead install Superuser from the Market if you wish.
Clean up the exploit:
Code:
adb shell rm /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
If you ever do a "Factory Reset", Superuser will go away, but you DO NOT lose root. Just reinstall Superuser.
What next? The choice is yours! Remove stock apps, get some good 'ol WiFi tethering, or flash something different!
*NOTE*
The above steps DO NOT put a recovery on your phone, though it is VERY EASY.
Once you're rooted, install ROM Manager by Koushik Dutta from the Market. Open it up, click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
Select your model (Hero CDMA), and hit Allow when the Superuser Prompt shows up.
*NOTE*
The above steps DO NOT install Busybox on your phone.
Simply install Busybox from Stephen (Stericson), available on the market.
Start the app and click Allow when prompted by Superuser.
How To Uninstall
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
rm /system/xbin/su
rm /etc/passwd
rm /etc/group
Uninstall Superuser.apk then reboot, and you're set!

Pretty straightforward. This will probably help a lot of newer hero owners, because amazingly, people are still buying them every day!
If I get a chance to test it out, I will.
Nice job. Should be stickied so people don't run around searching through all the old rooting threads which aren't as compatible with the newer RUU versions.
Worked nicely on a refurb Hero that Sprint sent due to the dust problem.
Thanks!
Works great for me
Why am I having trouble doing this? I was able to do it on one Hero though not after many retries, but not on another.

Great! I can't live without WiFi tethering my iPad which is why I haven't done the 2.31.651.7 HTC OTA update at all.
So, I take it that this exploit will root the Official RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.31.651.7_signed_release.exe file then too? I ask because I really don't like to do 'update patches'. I prefer to flash and start fresh so I'm planning on flashing the RUU and then doing this root exploit. Yes, No???

SUPER!
Because when I saw this post, I tried to download the latest OTA patch, but my phone just responds 'Your phone is up to date. There are no updates available for your phone'. Strange, because I'm on 2.27.651.6 and the OTAcerts.ZIP is in tact.
Oh well, FEAR NOT, because after I get back from the store this morning, then get the TV tuned to the split screen with football on one and the baseball playoffs on the other, and get Leo Laporte's TechGuy radio show screaming...it'll be the perfect time to flash my phone to factory fresh.
Thanks.
Works perfectly on latest and "greatest" stock ROM... excellent

One reason is that when I tried to download the latest OTA update today, I could not. And another reason is before I RUU'd, I had less than 50MB of available memory, but now I have 96MB available with all of my programs loaded again. So for me, it just seems more and more that Android (or HTC Sense) is like Windows boxes since it seems I have to reload the Android OS every now and then to clean things out.

Well, if you're using Sprint's official stock .5 rom, with no tweaks applied, you gain the advantage of having an up-to-date rom with the latest bugfixes from Sprint, plus I would say my root method is less invasive and more transparent than other root methods. My personal opinion is that it feels like a root method that can't be abused easily.

Can I get OTA updates with root or unrooting

I am thinking about rooting my Nexus S I love Stock google and I love how I can get OTA updates instead of waiting for carriers to update them then waiting ..... If I root my phone can I get the OTA updates still or can I reverse it so my phone is like it never had anything ever on it so I can update it fine as if Ive just bought it from a store.
thanks.
You can still receive OTAs with root as long as you're not on a custom rom that has the update script disabled (which most do). If youre on stock rom rooted then you will receive the update when it comes. Should you choose to update through the OTA, you will lose root. Most likely you could re-root it again thereafter.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
aww thanks so lets say I root tommorow I can get updates aslong as i dont install something like Cyogen or what ever it is called is the clockwork recovery just something for restoring and doesnt involve updating?
Also updates always get incorporated into custom rims so if you're on one you don't really have to worry about it.
Rooting the version of android you have won't keep you from getting updates. If you change the recovery image the update will download, but the install will fail.
Rooting a Nexus is pretty easy if you have the android SDK installed.
Just type in the following commands (you'd have to download superuser.apk and su and place them in the platform-tools folder of the SDK)
adb remount
adb push su /system/bin/
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
adb shell exit
adb reboot
If you type in adb remount and it fails to mount type in "adb root" then do the steps above.

Here's a great webpage on how to root the Nexus. You don't have to push the recovery image to the phone most people do so they can install custom roms. If you just want to root your stock rom you don't have to load the recovery image.

[Q] Titanium Backup not working on my ROOTED One S

Hi,
Today I've unlocked, flashed Paul's CWM recovery, and then rooted my HTC One S.
I've installed SU and Busybox but Titanium Backup still says it couldn't get root privileges. What am I doing wrong?
reupugi
try to update the binarys in SU
if that fails re flash the root.zip file
happened to me yesterday
Thanx for the quick answer.
When I try to update the su binarys it fails saying it "failed to find currently installed su binery...
What does that mean?
uninstall and reinstall the SU app
or reflash the root file as this is supposed to install SU on your device
Well, last night I spent hours trying to uninstall and reinstall su. I've also flashed Paul's root twice but still no luck.. I've tried to install busybox with two different apps but still no luck... Is there any way to roll back everything and start over?
you need to flash the su through cwm. then you can update the app's. You can not just download a app and think that it will root the phone. Look at step 3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24478083&postcount=1
So I encountered a similar problem (https://github.com/ChainsDD/Superuser/issues/46).
Edit: Of-course it'd make more sense to confirm if this could be the problem first...
Code:
$ adb pull /system/framework/framework.odex
$ strings framework.odex | grep HtcIntentFlag
@test_code: getHtcIntentFlag:
@test_code: setHtcIntentFlag:
addHtcIntentFlag
getHtcIntentFlag
setHtcIntentFlag
I patched the su binary in accordance with the change I observed in the framework and that works for me.
Could the OP please try the following su binary:-
* http://revolutionary.io/one-s/su (md5sum: 83fdeaef210225d7361e6c8eb63bae96)
This will need to pushed from recovery, something like (after ensuring /system is mounted):-
Code:
$ adb push su /system/bin/su
$ adb shell chown root /system/bin/su
$ adb shell chgrp root /system/bin/su
$ adb shell chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
(You can obviously push to xbin/ if you have the appropriate symlink set-up in bin/, etc...etc...)

I've flashed su through Paul's cwm, following steps 1,2 and 3. I did have a problem entering bootloader through shutting sown - power+vol down. For some reason that didn't work, numerous times, so I got into the bootloader through terminal (mac) and command prompt (win 7).

[ROOT] [HOWTO] aigoPad M60 rooting script + generic su + generic usb driver
Hi.
I owned several aigoPad M60 bought from all over (to say it have slightly different ICS 4.0.3 revisions) and some I actually got them revisions by sending to service centre and flashed to a newer firmware.
Nevertheless, all of them can be rooted using this script (for Windows, 380 KB).
I actually rooted a Kindle Fire HD first using this script found on some chinese site (sorry I already forgot where I did so please pardon me for lack of credits). I cleaned up and englicised the whole thing, and updated the ADB tools to greater (and more compatible) version. Actually most ICS root scripts found everywhere are more or less the same.
So far, devices tested and succeded:
- Amazon Kindle Fire HD (ICS version)
- aigoPad M60 (ICS)
- Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100 & GT-I9100G) ICS and Jellybean (works on mine, both phones and both 4.0.3 and 4.1.2)
- Chinese Samsung Galaxy SIII clone (can't explain much since it's a bootleg, it has MTK board) (ICS)
- Several other chinese tablets which somehow lose it's root or not rooted (ICS): Momo.cn 3G, AMPE, MaPaN. Sorry didn't remember it's exact models anymore.
This script contains a batch file, ADB exe file and two API libraries, and a generic su found in chinese tablets. The su works up to certain level but it is preferred to replace that with SuperSU from chainfire (Superuser from chainsdd didn't work well on these ICS chinese tablets, for me. Not sure about koushik's). Just install and when it asks to replace binary, choose normal and tap yes.
You have to have installed USB driver first. I have uploaded the compatible USB ADB driver for most chinese phones and tablets (8.5 MB, have to be split into x32 and x64 since the forum doesn't allow 8MB+ attachments, if you're not sure, download both and merge the folders, overwriting duplicate files).
Note: The driver works on Windows XP, 7 and 8. On Win 7 and 8 you will have to disable driver signature verify in order to install. (Win 7: Boot, F8, Disable signature. Win 8: Setting, Change PC Settings, General, Advanced Startup, look for Disable signature)
Those who already have ADB and drivers installed, here it is (simplified form of the actual script):
Windows (no need admin for ADB, just for driver installation):
Code:
adb wait-for-device
adb shell mv /data/local/tmp /data/local/tmp.bak
adb shell ln -s /data /data/local/tmp
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device
adb shell rm /data/local.prop
adb shell "echo \"ro.kernel.qemu=1\" > /data/local.prop"
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device
adb remount
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
adb shell rm /data/local.prop
adb shell rm /data/local/tmp
adb shell mv /data/local/tmp.bak /data/local/tmp
adb reboot
adb kill-server
Linux:
Same
Tip: If you want to, you don't have to download anything. Just copy+paste the script. But make sure you have su in current directory. You can get chainfire's su from SuperSU.apk (assets\supersu.arm.png, rename it to su).
Careful though, this copy+paste script lacks safety measures compared to the one in the archive, such as it doesn't check if the rooting is a success or not, but the script inside archive will prompt you first before wiping /data/local/tmp ...
Note: What I mean by the su works 'up to certain level' is, it doesn't accept command lines such as su -c command. Also you will have to replace it with a proper superuser app (SuperSU, Superuser) if you want to use Titanium Backup, Lucky Patcher and so on...
i juz purchase one for my kids to play games and i google on how to root the aigopad m60, it took me here.
Many thanks for the guide, i succesfully root it.

Already have the phone, myself and there is no need to root the phone. It's already rooted and comes with 'su' installed.
As as said 'su' is there, but you should update 'su' to a newer version as Superuser.apk doesn't work well with the version included in the phone.
Go to androidsu.com/superuser (download latest su and Superuser.apk)
run:
# adb push su /sdcard/
# adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/
# adb shell
in the shell:
# su
# mount -o rw,remount /system
# cat /sdcard/su /system/bin/su
# chmod 06755 /system/bin/su
# cat /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
# logout
# adb reboot
As for the recovery mode, using Power Btn and Volume Down Btn, you can go into recovery mode, no need to re-flash recovery, but you can if you wanna

Already have the phone, myself and there is no need to root the phone. It's already rooted and comes with 'su' installed.
As as said 'su' is there, but you should update 'su' to a newer version as Superuser.apk doesn't work well with the version included in the phone.
Go to androidsu.com/superuser (download latest su and Superuser.apk)
run:
# adb push su /sdcard/
# adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/
# adb shell
in the shell:
# su
# mount -o rw,remount /system
# cat /sdcard/su /system/bin/su
# chmod 06755 /system/bin/su

Sorry, I made a mistake. When using 'cat' you need to use the redirect:
cat /sdcard/su > /system/bin/su
cat /sdcard/Superuser.apk > /system/app/Superuser.apk

Unfortunately, I don't know how to build a custom rom, for now.
I can help posting the nexus 4 System dump:

BTW, does anybody have problem with the GPS? I've tried Sygic and Google Maps and not getting any satellites, or at least no very fast.
I've tried the how-to for the GPS from htcmania.com, but doesn't really help. Also tried FasterGPS app and nothing.
Please let me know if you know a good fix.
Also, does anybody know how to unlock the bootloader? Recovery can't be re-written if the bootloader is not unlocked (or at least thats what I believe).

Sorry, I haven't tried GPS yet. Maybe this week I could have some free time and I can try it.

Would it be possible to dump the ROM from your phone and uploaded someplace? I'm thinking is the ROM, but don't have the original one.
