A link to a system settings saver app was posted in one of the development threads this morning. I'm trying to find the link but can't. If someone can provide the link to this app it would be greatly appreciated.
What are you trying to achieve? Backing up system settings and then restoring them after switching ROMs?
Yes sir that is what I'm trying to do.

Ok. There's a problem with that, you should never restore system data after switching ROMs, it can cause major problems. You can backup and restore user apps (with their data) without issues usually, but not system apps, or system data/settings.

What if instead I want to do the following?
I am not rooted, so I would like to find a way to do a backup of apps (and their settings) and of system settings, so that I can unlock bootloader (this will wipe everything) root and then restore the backup.
I am staying on he same exact rom, so i should not be a problem.
Is there a way to do so? Maybe HOLO BACKUP or something else?

Without root it's very difficult to make those kinds of backups. Helium claims to be able to do it, but only with user apps. I highly doubt you can backup system settings, and really that shouldn't be a huge problem, setting those up from scratch shouldn't take too long.

I dont bother backing system data up since they normally cause problems upon restoring them when going from one ROM to another. For me exceptions would include text msgs, wifi settings, bluetooth, alarms, user dictionary.

System data is any data stored by an app that is integrated into the rom...that is, anything in /system/app. I don't usually back it up, though I've had ok luck in the past with restoring it as long as it is to the same version of the same rom. Restoring it to different versions or different roms is asking for FC's.
Like vi3tboiii54 said though, there are a few things that are usually ok to include. I usually put wifi settings and bluetooth connections in my backups and I haven't had any issues with it, even across roms.
I like rooting and installing custom ROMS on my phone, but one thing I DESPISE is having to download/restore all the apps I previously had because I had to do a wipe before installing the new ROM. Are there any tools that allow you to bundle up various apps + data in a sort of "package" that allows you to reinstall your programs with 1 easy step, or is the best option still to just Titanium Backup everything and manually backup then manually reinstall?
TIA
I use mybackup pro its way better than TB in my opinion give it a shot its really easy to use

How is it better? At a glance it appears they both do the same thing..
TB will do all of it in a batch
open TB, hit menu button, batch....restore MISSING apps + data

So I would do a Backup all user apps + System Data and then when i install a new ROM just do Restore missing apps + all system data? Could that cause problems when restoring system data on different ROMs?
It could cause problems restoring system data if your using a different type of ROM. Ex. Going from a Sense ROM to AOSP could cause issues. App data will work fine though.

If I just do a backup of all user apps will it include the app data? I don't see an option that specifies backing up the app data as well..

yes. batch, backup user apps, does include the associated data.
The only advantage i observe with mybackup--we can even save sms, mms etc..probably contacts as well, if u have some phone contacts
And one small suggestion...never ever restore system data from any backups...it causes really weird things...

Yeah, I would say you can restore system data, but only *if you know exactly what your doing*. If you are unsure, leave the system data alone and just backup user apps and their data. I've gotten some pretty nasty errors from trying to restore system data to a different rom. I have had success with backing up my sms/mms and restoring them to the same type of rom though (i.e. cm7 rom to another cm7 rom) (if you try it you will have to reboot before they appear btw).
Again, if you are unsure, just skip the system data backups. It's normally not worth the hassle.
Yeah all I'm really concerned about is backing up my apps. I don't care about saving specific things like call logs, SMS, or ringtone preferences. Thanks all for the info.
Good morning to everyone.
I have a stock One S, but now the S-off is possible, I would like to install a custom rom.
My question is: after rooting the phone and before installing the custom rom, is there a way to save\backup all the settings\achievements of the apps and system programs that I used in these 6 months?
Thanks in advance

Yes it is possible. I used an app called Carbon (free in Play Store) to backup my apps and their data. Carbon also has a feature to backup sms and call log but for me it messed up received times and dates of my messages. So use some other app to backup those... That might have been fixed in newer versions though. Be careful with system app backups especially if you plan to go to an AOSP based rom. They might cause problems in your new rom.

Titanium Backup as well. Not easy for newbies, but choose backup -> backup all systemdata, then uncheck all and check those with the titanium icon. A backup of data/app with all your apps and settings is a standard function of titanium.
You can see an example on the attached pic.
Keep in mind that unlocking bootloader erases all your apps and their data (mass storage stays untouched). So your data will be erased before you can root your phone. Carbon works on stock unrooted phones as well as it's basically the same as doing an adb backup from your pc. Titanium is way better when you get your phone rooted...

I don't know what an AOSP based rom is, but I wanted to try the ViperOnesS because I don't want to lose the Sense.
With my previous Nokia I was used to backup everything[/U ]with a simple click, using the Nokia Pc Suite.
With this Carbon app do you think I'll be able to do the same thing?
Thanks guys.
So I have to download Carbon and save all the system settings?
I have some applications on the phone memory, and others in the internal storage. Is it a problem?

Carbon let's you select the apps that you want to backup. And I believe it also has an option to select everything at once... When you have your custom rom up and running you can then either restore everything from the backup or restore only the apps that you want. Apps being in phone/internal memory shouldn't matter.

Yes. When you flash a new rom it is usually required to do a factory reset (meaning erase your personal apps and data). That's where backup apps come in handy. When in custom rom, install the backup app (Carbon or Titanium) and it will see backups of your apps and let's you restore them.

Yes, but its advised to not restore system data due differences in frameworks, etc.
Guys I know I'm stupid. But I know all the basics of flashing, rooting, recovery, etc... But I never cared about backing up my settings and apps, I always started fresh. But now since I flash a lot more I'm starting to get annoyed. :silly: I want to start backing up, but is it possible to do so and keep all my settings, my apps, and the settings of my apps? I know Titanium Backup can backup setting and apps but can it backup system settings as well? I would prefer to use what you guys think is the best option, thanks again. I do not care about backing up the whole ROM itself with all the apps and settings via TWRP or any other custom recovery, the whole point of this post is to have a fresh ROM then restore it with all the apps and settings I previously had on the ROM before.

You should never restore system apps/data/settings with Titanium, that'll lead to problems, only ever backup/restore user apps. I wouldn't suggest you use any app to backup/restore your system settings, it could cause problems, plus it should only take a few minutes to set those up after flashing a ROM.
I'm pretty decent with root ROMs etc, but I've always been **** at backing up properly. Any recommendations on apps (old or new) and instructions on how to backup and restore my phone so I don't have to relogin to apps, or reset up apps that don't keep my settings within apps that don't keep them even if they have a log in.
Any help would be appreciated. And no, google backup won't work. Doesn't do what I want

Hi, have you tried Swift Backup?
I always use it when I switch the ROM.
Not only apps and its setting, it can restore SMS, call logs and wallpapers though it can't restore entire system.

Haven't tried it, but will on next Evolution ROM update. Do you just not do a restore when clean installing the rim? Then root and install swift, and restore? That simple?

Yep. Just backup apps before doing clean install procedure.
And install Magisk on the new ROM, then install Swift backup and restore apps so that I can use apps just like before without any 're-configuration'.
