hi guys im planning to buy a used nexus 5.. i tried to press the search button but i didnt get to find anything
so basically im gonna buy a Nexus 5 on Bell network.. but its already factory network unlocked(according to him)
so my question is.. can i still install custom Nexus 5 Custom Roms in this phone?? because i was woried that nexus on different network is like korean galaxy s vs international version galaxy s
and also can you add something that i should double check??? like there might be something why is it so cheap(150$)
thank you for reading this.. and if you ever found something on search button.. im sorry.. i tried to look
I don't see why not
I recently bought a used Nexus 5 on Swappa for 165 USD, however it has a bad ESN. Be sure to thoroughly check if the phone is functional, a Nexus 5 for that cheap will likely have a crack on the screen or a bad ESN.
Regardless, the phone should be bootloader unlockable and able to flash custom ROMs.
It's a nexus not a galaxy, of course you can flash custom ROMs, regardless of what carrier it's on. And as far as any other advice is concerned... just be smart about it- test it with your SIM, check the ESN, test everything else, visually inspect it, maybe bring a laptop to make sure the USB connector is good. If you're concerned about the price then ask the seller in person why it's so cheap.

Hey guys, finnaly i decided to buy the new s2 skyrocket insted of the galaxy nexus phone.
I understand its alredy much more stronger and with the ics update its gonna rock.[am i wrong untill now?]
Im also gonna move from the US soon so i need an unlocked version, i have found only this one due to the fact AT&T/Verison and all thos dont sell the phone without a contract, so i found this one :
https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-i727-white-unlocked.html
Is this site reliable? is it new from the manufactore or pre-used? should i trust them? its only says unlocked but does that means sim-free?
Thx guys!
Best thing to do is see if you can get to a Walmart and try to find someone who will sell you a phone without a contract this has worked for several people I know
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
What do you mean "someone" ? just ask people around or is it on sale there?
I bought my Skyrocket from them because I couldn't find anywhere else that sold the white SR unlocked. It was actually cheaper for me to get the SR from them compared to getting the original S2 outright in Sydney, Australia.
The phone is new but they need to open the box to unlock the phone. The plastic film (which says don't text and drive or something like that) is still on the phone when you get it.
I read a couple of reviews about the site online and they seem reliable.
Right now I have an Evo 4G and while I like it I'm getting a little bored with it. I'm big on flashing Roms and the ICS Rom is great but the lack of a working Camera and the development speed/support just isn't that great. I guess I could/should be more patient.
With that said it seems like the Nexus S would be a good fit for me. I see several ICS Roms out there and it appears everything is working great as well as a ton of support here from the Devs.
I am due for an upgrade in May so here are my questions....
1.) In your opinion is it worth getting this phone for 5+ months until my upgrade?
2.) I don't want to shell out a ton of money for a new phone....Where do you recommend I look for a good used one?
3.) Can I activate a used Nexus easily? I don't want to screw up my 2 year contract and have to start over.
I've searched E-bay and found some ranging from $170+.....I'm not sure what I should be looking for as far as what buyer to go with if I do decide to get one.
What is the best Model?

Look for eBay posting which clearly states "CLEAN ESN" this means its not stolen and can be activated without a problem. Obviously you want to also look for working condition and all that. $200 is about what they go for.

I found one with a Clean ESN for $200.
Model: i9020
MPN: GT-I9020FSTTMB
I haven't had a chance to research the different models. Is this a good one for the price? Or should I look to get a different model?
Also, coming from the Evo how would I go about transferring files(pictures, videos, Backups, etc.) from my Micro-SD card to this phone since the NS doesn't use SD cards?
Unless you plan on switching carriers (EVO is on Sprint) you need a Nexus S 4G CDMA for Sprint. The others are for T-Mobile or ATT which are a GSM version.

That's a S-AMOLED screen model so a good choice. However, as has been said previously, look for a 4G model.
The Nexus S appears to Windows in the same way as your EVO would - as if it has an SD card, so you can just copy everything across using your computer.

Thanks for the info.
I ended up order that one today and it's already on the way ....Samsung Nexus S 4G, Clean ESN Sprint, Bundle, CDMA, Excellent Condition!....Sounds good and looks good from the pics too.
I assumed that's how it would work as far as the Internal Memory was concerned but thought I'd make sure.
I can't wait to root this and get some pure ICS!!
hi everyone,
i have a quick question, i just upgraded my phone to the nexus s from sprint, they give me 13 days to return if i wanted to do that, the main reason i got this phone was for the NFC chip to be able to use google wallet, however i got it and i can't even use it becasue the prepaid card from google wallet is not working i called them and they say that the system is down and it wouln't go back on for about 2 weaks.
My question is do you guys think i should stay with this phone or i should bring it back and exchange to the galaxy s2 epic 4g?
thanks for all of your input on this.

I'd prefer a Nexus phone over anything. An unlockable bootloader if you want to flash your own ROM's and the fastest OTA's if you want to stay stock.
The only phone worth exchanging it for is the Galaxy Nexus, in my opinion. But I don't really see the need yet. The Nexus S is a great phone, even though the specs may be less astonishing than many new phones.

anybody else have any more sugestion about this?
You could take it back and wait on Sprints GN

I think the Nexus is definitely worth keeping. It's a great size, and there is still a massive amount of developing being done. Keep it ... you won't regret it.
Gs2 will be upgraded ics soon
If you have enough money, the answer is gs2
Stick with it!

When I first got my NS4G I got bored of it quick. I was used to HTC Sense. I have almost traded it and/or sold it many times, but when it gets down to it I CANNOT part with this phone. The Nexus is one of the greatest phones. Pure Google, no Sprint or Samsung bloatware. I have learned so much with this phone.
Hey there everyone!
I have been a happy owner of a Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint since the phone launched. I truly do love the phone, and I can't find any core complaints about it, however, I find myself really craving a Nexus 4.
I have jumped into Android development with my Note 2, and have thus been finding that this powerhouse of a phone is just too unique of a device for me to develop apps for 4.1.2 + and cover a broad amount of devices and test cases. I am also not too excited about flashing any custom ROMs or anything on the Note 2 as I lose much of the native functionality (which I like). Coming from an original EVO 4G, which I flashed the hell out of, I am missing this lifestyle.
Long story short, I am looking to perhaps sell my Note 2, pick up a new 16gb Nexus 4 (when it comes available) with the proceeds, and start my PhoneGap app development on a more more suitable, and uber-current piece of hardware. Has anyone else done a similar process before? Is there anything I should look out for when trying to make this switch? Will Sprint raise hell for any reason?
If I could afford to just keep my Note 2 and buy a Nexus 4, I would, but unfortunately I am not that wealthy. I am really just looking for opinions or impressions on something like this. Also perhaps anyone's experience in doing something similar.
Cheers!

If u upgraded to the Note 2 and extended your contract u may be out of luck. Nexus 4 does not support CDMA bands which Sprint uses. So unless u switching to GSM then I dunno what to say aside from the fact that Note 2 to Nexus 4 is a downgrade IMO
^ I second all that.
You'd need to switch to a provider that uses SIM cards such as T-Mobile or ATT.
If development makes you happy and you're out of contract or can afford the ETF (although that might be almost as much as just buying the N4) - go for it. But I agree it's a downgrade that lacks a lot of nice features the Note II offers. It'd be a trade-off (not to mention the change of carrier).
Great points. I didn't think about being out of luck and having to switch carriers. I suppose I'll just have to keep my eyes out for a used Galaxy Nexus I can pick up for $100 or so to develop on.
The Galaxy Nexus got the 4.2 Upgrade right? I would really just like to start preparing for Android Development, and be able to have the best broad test-cases for 4.1.2 and above.
Not to mention I would like to start playing with the SPen SDK

Not sure if the Verizon Nexus got the update yet. Since it's carrier branded there is bloatware and also has to go through the carrier for updates. It was late in receiving 4.0.4 and also 4.1
does the original owner need to un-register it with google so he wont have the power to lock my device?
the n5 is the black 16GB model and hes throwing in $75 do you think that's a good deal?
im used to all my Samsung stuff on the S4 (I do like TW) but I like the hardware inside the N5
anyhow I have about 1hr so the 1st question is most important and the last I guess is subjective but I feel like this is best place to ask it
thanks
As long as the phone is not blacklisted it should be good to go after you factory reset it. Which I assume you would do.
Secondly if you actually like touchwiz you may miss some features that it offers so you should probably play with a nexus 5 before you buy one. Nexus 5 is what is known as a vanilla android experience. Meaning all the bloat and crap that slows the device down is gone. Fwiw I had an S3 before my Nexus 5 and I'm very happy with it, but no matter what anyone tells you cell phones are always going to be personal preference when it comes to what you like.

First question answered above but If you love TW i think you will be dissapointed with Vanilla AOSP stock as it has mainly the bare essentials build in. A custom rom or stock with Xposed and Gravitybox will liven it up though and adds more fuctionality. Many TW features however are not available.

i think maybe the trade for the n5 along with the $75 helps out.
i really think in the end i want a note 3 but maybe this will get me close as far as selling it out right and adding money and in mean time maybe give me a new device to play with
how can i tell if its black listed?
yea i like the TW ui. usually i root and debloat or just get a cust rom that is debloated already.
how can there be no sd card slot?
lol

Google hates external sdcards, just insert your microsimcard in the N5 and if data and telephony works its probably not blacklisted. Maybe you can run a imei check here http://www.imei.info/ or call your phone company for a check.
id he bought it from radio shack and I think his carrier is sprint
he was gonna by ms gs4 originally but instead he bought the n5 new
now he wants to trade and will add $75 cash so I wonder if its under contract or how that works
is it an unlocked phone really when you buy it from radio-shack for sprint (they do sell sprint there)

ok thanks all
im heading out for a trade
see you all on this forum soon
I have the N5 and I just got my wife a slightly used S4 (Sprint) and I have to say that I like the S4 a lot. Do I like it better than my N5? No, I prefer the N5 but only slightly, the S4 is really a nice phone and feels great in your hands as well.
When I was setting up the S4 for her I found myself contemplating keeping that for me and giving her my N5 but that thought quickly left my mind. Waiting on what the S5 will bring before I even think about moving from my N5.
If the N5 is going to be used on Sprint call them up to make sure you can activate it on Sprint, give them the number inside the battery compartment and they will check for you.
just got back with the n5
the s4 i was trading him had the wrong prl (forgot to flash that back to sprint before i left) so i looked like a dipshiat in radio-shack on the phone with customer service (they are saying looks all good) and we are looking at the radio signal going ...where is it
lol
his wife had an s4 on sprint so i looked at her prl and looked at mine and new right away i messed up.
anyhow i ran home flashed the correct prl and boom the phone is working as it should and we did wind up trading phones and getting the $75 in cash
now im home and charging the n5 and am about ready to do some research on different roms
i did like samsung touchwiz ui so is there anything kind of similar?
i have this n5 listed on craigslist as i do really want a note 3 in the end and to my understanding the one to get is a sprint note 3 but thats another subject
gonna try the 2 roms listed above
this is gonna be weird. nothing to unlock i can just flash any 4.4 rom?

In the meantime you can type in "Touchwiz Launcher" in the Play Store and you'll see a variety of Touchwiz replicas.
The Nexus 5 honestly isn't for everyone. I love it but you may not since you said you love Touchwiz. Touchwiz comes with tons of features out of the box but to me most of them are gimmicks that are cool to show off to friends. I had the Note 3. It was cool but I was missing Vanilla Android so I got the N5.

you explained that perfectly but i do like tech specs like this hardware and i do like to game
i was thinking about trying that with the n5 connected to my 52" lcd samsung dumb-tv.
i like that side too of the actual hardware and messing with drivers for xbox/ps3 controllers etc..
but you can strip / debloat the stock rom of touchwiz if you root or even get a tw custom rom so it not too bad.
as far as the extra feature gimmics 100% correct
even the ir blaster does work good but as far an actual remote control its way off. the app that they use for the menu of whats coming on next are pics of the shows in time slots and i do like that feature. its better then my mediacom tv-guide
i think i will have fun with this n5 while i have it and most likely get the note 3 mostly because of the bigger screen as my eyes really like it
debloat the hell out of that rom and prob try and sim-unlock which sucks because it dont work like it should (like it does with the N5)
omg this thing has a ton of RADIOS!!
what networks will it not work with (the guy i got it from said it wont work with verizon)
that could save the day in the end and i might keep it just for that

From what I've read it will work on Verizon but it depends on what location you are in. I'd call it a bust and just say it doesn't work since it doesn't function 100% like a Verizon phone.
Let's face it, most of us love the Nexus 5 for the speed, development and timely updates directly from Google. IDC what manufacturer makes the Nexus 5 I will always buy one. I'm not gonna lie, the Note 3 was a cool phone even with its gimmicky features.
Whenever I try to out do my dad (he has a Note 3) its a bit hard because he doesn't understand the behind the scenes features the Nexus 5 has and his favorite thing is, "but can your phone switch channels". Lol.

The Nexus 5 fully supports all of the major US carriers except for Verizon. Verizon has always been left in the dust when it came to Nexus phones and I think its actually Verizon fault because of how strict they are. If Verizon officially had the Nexus 5 they would probably require the Nexus 5 to have their bloatware and software upgrades would have to go through them first and they'll test it for a month or 2 and then release it.
