Google now contact recognition missing in android 5.0.1 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have factory reset my nexus 5 in an effort to improve battery life, however I have now run into an issue with my moto 360. I can no longer use my 360 to make my phone ring/text contacts. There no longer seems to be an option in Google now settings: accounts and privacy to enable contact recognition.
When using voice commands on my phone alone there is no issue with it ringing contacts I ask it to. I have tried enabling OK Google detection when when the screen is off.
Any suggestions? Has anyone found a work around for this?

This feature is on by default.

Sorry but it isn't. See:
https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/4367425
It is not an option on my nexus 5 since factory resetting, and means that I can't instigate voice calls using my moto 360.

Are you thinking that Google is as fast as we are.. You are wrong my friend.

Fair enough, any ideas why my phone won't recognise any commands from my moto 360 to ring contacts etc... then? All I get is a message on my moto 360 to "try again on my phone" which appears after the 360 finds the right contact and the right number and tries to ring.

Is it possible to use the tab as dialer for my Nexus 1

As I have only data and sms on my subscription on my Tab I would like to have a dialer on the tab which uses my gmail contacts (they are already synced to the tab) to make a call through my Nexus One phone.
Then I could keep it in my pocket or somewhere else during driving as I use the tab for music and navigation in my car.
Does anyone know of a dialer that can do this?
That would definitely be cool.
So, you want the Tab/Nexus to immitate a bluetooth headset?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Just the tab.
So. I don't recall having seen anything that remotely controls a cellphone. However, couldn't you have google voice make a call the same way it does when you use it from your pc and it first calls the number associated with your google voice account, then connects the call with the desired contact?
I know that is not specifically what you are looking for but might provide some ideas.
Otherwise, from what I understand you are saying is basically a remote controll for your phone? It doesnt necissarily need to be via bluetooth. I control my ip handset over the internet with the tie in to my enterprise im client. I can control any of the several ip phones I have attached to my profile in the call manager.
Let me know if you find this elsewhere. Looks like a great application for the tab. Im starting to have device overload!

[Q] Using Windows 7 to Make Handsfree Phone Calls Using Nexus S

While watching QVC last night[?!!?!?], some muppet from HP was trying to flog a massively overpriced laptop. One feature which attracted my attention was that he made a hands free phone call using his laptop paired via bluetooth to his phone.
I am struggling to find information about this feature on the interweb, but on this page (http://dummy-essentials.blogspot.com/2010/07/make-phone-calls-via-computer-using.html) apparently all you need to do is pair the laptop and phone and then double click which takes you to a screen where you can dial the number.
I have paired my phone to my laptop but it doesn't seem to have any features or show any capabilities - does this mean that Windows needs specific drivers for compatibility?
Anyone use this feature? Anyone know how to make it work?
Cheers all
Just go to Gmail and make a phone call. It's free and doesn't use your cell minutes

Google Now and Bluetooth

So, I noticed an odd behavior with Google Now. If I have Bluetooth on and it's connected to my Moto T505 car speaker, when I go to use Google Now (or Voice Search) it keeps saying initializing. It does not do this if Bluetooth is on but not connected. It also does not seem to do it with my Moto S305 headset.
Has anyone else seen this?

I have this same issue with my Sony Xplode and my note 2
however if i back out of google now and back in it will work.
It hangs on "initializing" the first time. This also happened with my Galaxy nexus.
If someone finds a fix that would be sweet!

Thanks for this find. Now my i535 works with my bluetooth headset and I couldn't be happier and thanks to Home2 shortcut I got rid of that terrible slow S Voice, and am using Google Now and Utter! as my two go-to modules.

Great, I get to finally use smart voice commands via Bluetooth with this phone . . . and it requires that I first enable one of the most annoying user interface options available.
Decisions, decisions . . .

Solved!
Still no fix coming from Google, but at least one nice guy made a temp fix while they do it.
Look for "Voice Command" app on Google Play. Developer's name is IT-DEV-CROWD or code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42178#c37
It worked for me, after trying a lot of different configurations.

OK Google on any screen strangely appears and disappears

I was very keen to try this feature, so I updated the Google Search app to the latest one (3.5.14). Sadly, the feature has not yet provided to my google account, and so I wait.
But funny things happened this morning after I flash the developer version of Android L to my Nexus 5. There was an screen prompting me to say "OK Google" 3 times to activate Google Now on any screen. There were 3 options in my Google Now Voice settings: enable it from home screen, any screen, and lock screen.
I was indeed very surprised and delightful, however such a thing only last 3 minutes. It suddenly stopped. As for now I speak, 2 of those 3 options in voice settings are gone. However there is still an option to enable Audio History (image attached).
I'm guessing this is because the OK Google on any screen is location based and currently only works on several countries picked by Google itself. If that's the case I'm very certain the Americans will be the first. Can someone clarify?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
It isn't regional. Its random Google Accounts.
I'm not sure, I'm in America and I had it working before and now it's not. Weird. I just tried again and I can't get it working. Maybe something on Google's end? I'm lost, too.

Well it's good to know it's not merely my fault. At first I began to think my voice is not qualified for activating Google Now lol.
It seems that currently we can only wait, let me know if yours works again

I had the same issue. I was on Android L and after about a day of using it, the options appeared. The text said "when screen is on OR charging" so I was curious to see if we could get always listening while charging. I put it on the charger and the options disappeared and never came back. I'm back on 4.4.4 and I still don't see it.
It's definitely server sider on Google's end. I too had it for a little bit, but it is now gone as well. Google is deploying it per account like they do with anything so it's not fully available yet and ready for use. Expect to see it enabled over the next few weeks.
There's already a fix! http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/29qya0/if_you_do_not_have_ok_google_everywhere_on_your/
Try it on, I got it working (for now, at least)

I followed a tread about this issue last year which never got resolved; apparently a lot of folks are having this problem, still.
I too have tried several wake-up commands but, like you, not of them worked. Like you, I can give commands as long as I touch the mic icon.
Did you ever get an answer to this question?

Sadly not no. Google Voice works perfect tho.
If you turn off google voice activation it will work. That's how I fixed it on mine anyway. Edit. Just checked and turning off google voice activation still makes s voices come back on.
