[Q] Please Help my phone got bricked it stuck on 'google' text page and a lock image - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

desperate for help, i know this is wrong place but need help,so tensed ,i tried to install custum rom Cataclysm in nexus 5 , i did it successfully when i was checking all apps, camera was not working. so i thought to re-install lolipop 5.0.1 copying files to my phone became difficult it will come 40-50% and stops or hangs. so i went to recovery (twrp) deleted cache/system/ few other files and then i restarted it says "no OS found" i was shocked and from then i cant get through recovery mode anything. it stuck on the screen where "google" and "screen lock" icon at the bottom is there. please help me out. please let me know any procudure to get back my phone.

Aaandd..that's what happens when you flash without reading and understanding the procedures.
You have no idea you have no /system to boot to since you've just said you wiped it.
It is interesting that even after messing up your device, you didn't bother to search but immediately ask in dev section although this post has nothing to do with development. This is sad.

Please refrain from recommending toolkits, especially to noobs who have already gotten themselves into a bind due to lack of knowledge. We need to try and encourage learning, not provide tools to get around it.
OP needs to flash a factory image with fastboot and then read up on flashing ROMs and the like before he attempts to do anything else, unless he wants to actually brick his device next time.

You don't need recovery to flash a factory image, just the bootloader. Hold volume down while powering the phone up. It'll boot into the bootloader and from there you can flash the factory image using fastboot.
And in the future, don't wipe /system. That's why you have no OS.

Are you continuing to hold volume down after pressing the power button or are you releasing it right away? You need to hold it until it boots into the bootloader.

Then you somehow managed to wipe your bootloader, I don't quite know how. Try holding both volume up and down while booting. Again, continue to hold both volume buttons until it boots. That'll get you into the secondary bootloader. If that doesn't work, then you're screwed.

[Q] U8650 HELP! I think I bricked my phone... :(

Let me introduce myself. My name is Toni, I'm from Croatia.
We too have an IT forum, and they recommended me to go and ask for answers here...
Well, I have a Huawei U8650. It is rooted, and I installed a custom ROM.
Today, I installed a .zip file from the recovery, and when I went to "Reboot" (also from recovery), the phone stopped on the Huawei Logo (when trying to reboot).
I couldn't do anything, so I pulled the battery out, and in again. I pressed the Power button, but again, the boot stopped at Huawei Logo.
Then, I tried to get to the recovery menu. The combo- VOL UP + POWER is not working (when I try it, it gets me to the Logo).
However, I also tried this combo- VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER, but then the whole screen turns pink! WTF?
I don't know what to do, I'm desperate! I can't use my phone anymore!
Did I brick my phone? If not, what the f*ck did I do?
How can I solve my problem?
Thanks
Toni
Bricked phone
Try this:
Hold volume down while pressing and releasing the power button, wait till phone comes on to release volume down, let me know your results (should bring you to hboot)
Sorry, but that didn't help. Nothing happens.

i think there might be a chance that your phone has fastboot turned on since i was trying to get into recovery and couldnt because of the fastboot...i cant help you but i know this is what might be causing you not being able to get into recovery
So, I will be able to get it to work again??
What is the sign of bricking a phone? How does it look?

ive never bricked my phone but from what im reading is if you have fastboot on pull the battery and then try again hold volume and power at same time hold for a couple seconds then just release the power button while holding down the volume
Again nothing.
Just the logo.
ok last thing i can think of......Did you wipe everything when installing the rom...factory reset, cache partition, delvik cache...if so are you getting a white screen when loading.....sometimes when installing a new rom it can take almost 10 min for it to load.....i have an evo 4g and this can happen.....it could be just trying to load so give it at the most 10min to load everything....then let me know what id does
No, i didn't wipe a thing. I did not install a ROM. I installed an app, root manager. The install instructions didn't say anything about wiping data.
I left it at the logo for 30 minutes, because I went out. When I came back, the screen was showing the logo.
EDIT: but yes, when I installed my custom ROM, i wiped everything.

stuck rebooting!

I'm kind of a noob with this but my Verizon GS3 is doing a boot loop and I have no idea how to fix it! Please help!
First off, are you able to throw ADB commands to the phone? (a lot of the time when I get stuck in a boot loop I can still throw ADB commands at it), if so, throw adb reboot recovery to reboot into the recovery.
If you can't, remove the battery to turn it off, pop the battery back in, then hold Volume Up, Home, and Power to boot into the recovery.
Once in the recovery do a full wipe.
If you are flashing a ROM it's always suggested to do a full wipe before flashing the ROM.
If wiping doesn't work then restore for a previous backup (I hope you did a backup before you did whatever you did since you weren't being detailed in what you were doing at the time).

Thanks for responding! All I was doing was backing it up through ROM Manager and after the backup it went into the boot loop. When I hold the power, home, and volume down button it goes into download mode so I can't even get into the recovery. Have you heard of this before?
Try doing Volume Down, Home, and Power instead (one does download and one recovery, I can't remember which since I do everything through adb and very rarely have to do it manually).

Well the good news is I can get into recovery. The bad news is every time I try and restore it goes back into the same boot loop for a few cycles then goes back into Clockworkmod recovery. I feel like I'm getting close here...

When I do reboot system now it says "error processing ROM Manager script. Please verify that you are performing the backup, restore, or ROM installation from ROM Manager v4.4.0.0 or higher."
Why not just flash a new rom to get rid of the boot loop? Or Odin back to stock n root all over again?

can you be more percifics ?
try re-install the rom
I just faced the same problem on my SGS2. Hold Volume Up + Home button + Power button to recovery mode (I guess SGS3 is the same as SGS2), then re-install the rom. If it is still not working, you may have to try another rom. To incase this problem happening, I always put two old rom and a new rom in my internal sd card, it's a lot safer, but they will use about 1GB in your phone.
Download a new ROM then flash it. Should fix your problem

The damned phone is bricked how are you going to flash another rom or wipe data? I don't think its totally bricked but it will only show the dwonload screen, buttons and usb ports do not work at all so far.
New data: after leaving the battery out for ahwil I was able to get back to the odin entry screen. I pushed the volume up and went back to where I was... this is progress. Now sure where to go from here.
Fumbling worked! Hitting the down volume worked. I am back in the previous rom. I still would like to flask 4.2.2! Please advise and comment. Thanks!

On the galaxy s3 it's down volume, power and home, then down volume to get out of the odin emulator screen. BTW captcha for a site like this reminds of the sysops of 5 line bbs' out of their mother's basements that had elaborate member approval vetting. Self importance to the disease level.

[Q] Where's my Stock Recovery gone?

Hi All,
Just got hold of a pretty good condition Nexus S for my Work/ Second phone, and its a dam nice phone. My daily is an N4.
I have read many threads, tried many tips and even ended up rooting and running CM10.1.
I much prefer stock android, so its now on 4.1.2.
Unless I am being an utter nob, and missing the obvious, I cannot get into my Stock Recovery. It seems like its missing.
I have tried Vol+ & power. Vol- to recovery. I get the Android Red Triangle.
I have tried then pressing Vol+ or Vol- or a combination.
I must be doing something wrong.
Any advice would be great.

Just use Nexus root tool kit and put in a custom recovery.. You can use to flash completely to stock, which should restore the stock recovery, but the custom is better and more reliable for flashing..
Thanks for the very quick reply Setting.Out.
I have used the root kit. I used it to root and install a custom recovery.
I used it to return to stock rom too, but still cannot show the stock recovery.
I have seen youtube vids where the red triangle shows and you need to use Vol+ to access your stock recovery, but no luck for me.
Is it possible its missing.
I bought it and prior to buying it was running a custom rom. I asked the owner to return it to stock for me.
I have rooted and got my hands dirty with phones for years and this is just bugging me :silly:

Thanks Chill for the post, it has been useful, just have a question, need to copy some files off the phone from recovery but i get the andriod figure lying down with a red exclamation mark. My Nexus S(stock) keeps rebooting before it gets to showing the home screen. Read from other posts that if i can get to recovery, plug cable into PC then i can copy files. If i re-flash recovery with stock recovery, will i lose my data files?

Thanks smit sanghavi, I did finally figured out how to get into the menu of recovery(stock), once you see the green android lying down with red exclamation mark, hold power then click up volume. However unfortunately i might have run out of luck, i couldn't re-flash the stock recovery, because the error says bootloader is locked. As per details in other posts, when i unlock the bootloader, it will wipe all files. Even when im at the recovery menu, windows won't detect the Nexus S when i plug into USB... so unless there is another way to get adb running, then all my files are lost...

[Q] Can't access fastboot...

Hey guys,
first of all, my powerbutton stopped working some weeks ago. I thought that not much of a problem, so I remapped this thing and perfect.
I noticed, if I turn off my phone, take battery out and back in, it restarts instantly. Seems to be stucked at "ON" or something.
Well I also noticed without touchrecovery, it's quite a problem to navigate through cwm recovery.
But there's still fastboot... naaah I couldn't find the phone in Windows to install drivers, thought that's a problem of Win8, but after that I tried same thing in ubuntu with manually installed drivers... still nothing.
Okay next thing, is, there are so many apps in the market, which install some recovery, autoflash stuff... Did that, (yeah I gave root access and so on) and still nothing happened, I'm still stuck with this cwm recovery and can't install new roms.
Now my Question(s):
Is there an Option to install some new recovery?
Is there a way to get Fastboot working?
Is there a way to get the Powerbutton in this state back to work?
Or kinda best worst case, is there an option to get my Nexus back to Stock and unroot to send it in, I still got warranty but this would require stock phone...!
Thanks!

Try capacitive buttons on your current recovery. On my current recovery the search button makes the same that the power button, so if in your recovery the button have the same behaviour then you can easily flash a stock rom
Okay, i just got told: "If the power button is always pressed, fast boot does not react on input from keys or over adb.."

Ugh... Screwed up my phone using the Wallet Installer. Someone Help!

Sorry for posting this.
I was trying to get Google Wallet on my phone, and of course it backfired. I noticed in my "About Phone" it said "Galaxy Nexus." I remember trying to restore my build.prop thru the app before, but I tried it again, this time clicking on "Verizon" and SIII, and I pressed build.prop and my phone has been endlessly trying to bootloop. I haven't been able to get past the "Samsung Galaxy SIII" menu with Cid on it.
My biggest problem is I'm running a Mac. I know theres a whole Odin process, I haven't even looked at, unfortunately. Typically, this phone doesn't read Macs well.
I backed up multiple ROMs thru recovery. I tried getting to the boot menu, pressing vol up+power and vol down+ power to no avail. I know there are countless threads on this, but if anyone could do me the kindness to show me the right thread to read and what I should look at, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I've been flashing forever and this is the first time this has happened to me.
Thank you.
UPDATE!:
I'd delete this post entirely, but I don't see an option where I can. Thought I'd post how I figured it out at least so when someone else does this, they know what to do.
I figured out how to boot into recovery from power off. You press and hold VOLUME DOWN + HOME. Then you press power and let go when the S-Screen comes on.
I've heard all GS3 flashers soft brick at some point, and I'm dreading the day I have to use Odin...
for the future, as far as i understand theres almost no downside to keeping the build prop edited to nexus.
I had it that way for months at a time with no noticeable differences.

I actually had this problem, to fix this issue you can always choose system restore only from advanced restore. It restores your build.Prop and keeps all of your data intact.
Just for future use in case you modify your system files again.

The only downside is if you install a recovery via goomanager or rom manager. It will flash the wrong recovery to your phone.
Will this actually brick the phone? Or keep it from booting into recovery?
