Hello,
I'm the proud owner of HTC One X by AT&T. For years now, I have been using some Sense 5 ROM (I don't even recall his name anymore), but with time - battery life went down and the device slowed down. I decided it's time to flash a new Rom. I installed Cyanogen Mod (12 Nightly) and it felt a bit too slow for my liking. So before I'm trying every ROM in the Development forum, I though I'll ask for a recommendation.
I need my device to be fast, have a good battery life and to be stable. Running late android build is a plus of course, but I prefer not to run Lolipop if the phone is too old to gracefully handle it, and stick with 4.2 or 4.4 for the sake of performance and stability.
Is there anything you guys recommend that works well outside of the box? I prefer not to play around with kernels and such. There is a priory for Sense 5 as I enjoyed the UI, but again - It's shouldn't have priority above performance and stability.
Thank you!
It isn't allowed to recommend one over another because it's not fair to the developers. My recommendation is to try multiple roms and figure out works best
Oh, Sorry. I must have missed it out on the forum rules. Recommendation was probably a bad word, I was looking for some help on narrowing my options perhaps. Some Roms for example advertise on performance, while other on tweaks and features.
Thanks and sorry

They're all good. The only way to know what's right for you is by testing yourself.

Try this compilation post - very useful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
If you like Sense, go with one of the Sense-based ROMS
It sounds like you may just need to clean out your cache (try this via recovery - clear cache only - don't wipe data) to get your device back up to speed.

I have upgraded my Nexus S to ICS 4.0.3 and it worked for quite a while without any issues, but now it become really slow...I use Go Launcher to control apps that run and switch them all off from time to time, get good battery life (use Mugen's HLI-NexusSXL 3900mah battery), also I don't really use many apps.
What is the best case scenario to "clean" Android ICS 4.0.3 from, I dunno, cash, temp files and other garbage that potentially can affect performance?
Appreciate any help, guys!
Thanks
Hmm... cleaning it doesn't really help with your problem. I believe you should better install one of the ROMs in the development section. They are really smooth. On the other hand, if you want the phone to keep its stock look, it's better to flash a kernel. Some very fast and stable kernels out there, I would recommend eugene373's ICUP Speedy-4 (fast for me, with 24 hours battery life). I have made a thread for helping people decide what to flash, and a small guide for the terms, if you aren't familiar with them. Check out the link in my signature
Go launcher is like the MacDonald's of launchers. Zo you would want a mcdonalds rather than olive garden?

Thanks a lot, this is a rocking advice! Checked the link, will do my best to try it!!
it's like a PC with Windows OS....
The more time you use it and the more apps you install , the slower it gets...
Don't put too much apps, uninstall the unnecessory ones.IMHO stock stuffs (ROMs , kernels etc...) are the most stable things , unless you're an adventurer lol
if you're rooted you can wipe the cache to maybe gain some speed =)
I tried to clean my phone using filemanager and deleted all the folders that were left from the apps I've uninstalled and it helped... I would be cool to have some sort of cleaner/wiper app that would clean the s*** from the phone
I'm on ARHD for a few days, good ROM but less fun than ROACH VANILLA (some freezes, no custom reboot menu).
I want to change it but :
-what is the best? (no bugs or too hard for a noob like me)?
-i want to keep all apps (too lazy with Titanium...)
Thanks a lot for your advices and hope i don't annoy you with noob question...
Answered your own question.
Aosp or aokp you would have to install gapps and run tb for your other apps. So if you don't want to do that then.......
OK, but in that case what is the best??

There's no such thing as best rom. Every user's usage pattern is different. If you're asking for opinions, i'm pretty sure there's going to be alot of different opinions coming from different users. Even you can't make your own decision which rom to flash.
Try every rom for a few days. Performance and stability is what you should look for in a rom. Once you've found the one that suits you best, stick with it.
I was tempted to sell off my one x and get a sg3, but I figured it's pointless since I am sure I will be getting one of the new nexus phones when they hit the market. (Hope Google doesn't drop the ball on these).
So since I am keeping this phone for awhile I am going to unlock the bootloader and put something better on it than stock sense.
I really like sense but I had to disable it because of the multitasking issue. Switched to nova launcher as well since none of the sense widgets worked after disabling the core components.
I am looking for a sense based rom with better multitasking, better battery life (mine isn't too bad right now), and the ability to remap the hot keys. I never use the recent button but I miss having a search button that isn't at different locations in every app.
What would be my best option?
Thanks.

Well... CleanROM 4.0 SE is what you want. :good:
Not sure you're allowed to make these sorts of threads though.
Not sure why there would be a rule against asking a question in the question and answer forum about which rom suits my needs the best. If there was such a rule then I apologize for breaking it , but such a rule would be pretty dumb if you ask me.

What's the best is purely subjective and and in the past such threads have erupted in flamewars so the Mods don't allow them.
As you can tell from my post though I have am not looking for the best rom, I am looking for the rom that best suits my needs.
Just asking what I the best is of course going to bring a "What I use is the best because I use it" responses. What I wanted to know is if there is a rom that best suited the needs I described. I am sure there are other roms that can do other things in didn't list better

I've tried them all. Personally, CleanRom DEV and King Cobra's have been my favorites. They've been very reliable for me. Although atm I'm stripping down CleanRom 4.0 [I wouldn't call it clean, personally] and removing EVERYTHING I don't need to see how low/minimal I can get the rom in size :] I know it may not sound like a difference to you, but I don't need widgets or half of every thing that comes with it or any other rom. I want the slim-lined ROM with only core components I need. I don't need the wallpapers or quite a few of the APKs that come with it. Also, I don't need my apps zipaligned everytime I reboot. I don't want it. I don't need it. When I boot my phone on, I want it ready to go ASAP. <Haven't noticed a difference with zip on/off anyways>.
So... When I'm done stripping away CleanRom 4.0 SE, And have done a full setup [Busybox, Root, SD Maid, SD Booster, Cache Mate, and The V6 Supercharger scripts, I'll give you a heads up if all my cleaning [of a clean rom ;D] is worth it. Maybe I'll upload it, But I'd get the dev's permission first.
PS, Tryout CM9. When its fully up and running I'm sure it will be great. My HTC Aria went from stock to CM9, and it was blazing fast.

But that's not what your subject says
If people just read the the thread title without actually reading my post and then start a flame war over it chances are they were going to find another thread to start one anyway. People like that don't come to a forum to learn or help, they come to a forum to stir up trouble because they have nothing better to do with their life and that's just sad.
We should all be able to discuss any subject in a mature manner without it turning into a childish argument.
Anyway, thank you for to the people that replied with answers. I appreciate it.

CleanROM is a good "off-the-shelf" solution. It has bloatware removed, and some customization - including multitasking improvemets. And it still has Sense, which is nice for those who like it. Give it a try!
If you want to find a ROM that suits your needs the best way to go about it is to take the time to actually read the threads in development for each particular ROM.

A better thread title would help, such as "Suggest a ROM for my needs" or even "What is your favorite ROM". There is no "best" ROM, and suggesting so is considered by many here (including myself) to be insulting to the devs that work so hard giving us these ROMs.
I go for stock because I'm for functionality and like having all of my hardware working

I don't think there's any hardware that's not working in CleanRom. I'm using CleanRom 4.0 LE and it's great.

Ditto, everything's working on CleanRom, and the dev even improved the phone by cleaning out the junk and improving multitasking. Highly recommended.

What he said. There's no reason to not use CleanROM as of right now if you like stock Sense.
So I had CM 10.1 for a good while and decided to try something new song trues Jellybam. Everything works smoothly but my only complaint is my battery life has gone done significantly. So I'm looking for a pretty highly customizable rom that's stable, smooth, and has pretty good battery life. Any suggestions?
I don't really have the time or patience to try out a bunch of roms at the moment so I need some ideas... Thanks
By posting this you will end up doing exactly what you claim to have no time or patience for. The universal fact is that what rom works for one person doesn't always work for everyone else. Also these threads get closed as these can lead to unwanted debates. In the end you are better off trying out the roms yourself to see if it works well with your device but you don't have time for that so good luck in your search.
I'm not looking to go out and try 200 roms and then find out the one I want is the one I didn't try.. I'm just looking for ideas to narrow down my options
Well your op didn't help much as pretty much all of Touchwiz roms are stable so are most AOSP roms. You want customization there are the following:
Bonestock
AOSPA
Chameleon
MOAR
Plasma
AOKP
Pac-Man
Avatar
Goodness
Carbon
Mysterious
Xenon
Vanilla Rootbox
Jellybeer
MIUI
Axis
Hyperdrive
Synergy
Obsessed
Liquidsmooth
See I pretty much mentioned most if not all the roms with high customization options and results may vary in terms of battery life.
Thank you, and sorry I'm fairly new to rooting. Do you have any opinions as to which ones I should try first?

Well you can try Chameleon since it is pretty good rom. When it comes to this section it helps to be specific in your threads as it helps when solving problems also avoid posting suggestion thread as like I said the moderator will close them down.
I got the best life out of Bone Stock or literally the factory 4.1.2. I got the worst battery life out of AOSP ROMs.
I'd say try bone stock, and if that doesnt work try the factory odexed rom - it was the only rom I could get power saving mode to work on.

Also if you are willing and have the money, get a note 2. I switched and I get noticeably better better life.

if youre unwilling to put in the work, why should anyone help you?
every device runs different and you need to read and try what works for you.
if you dont have the patience for reading and trying then maybe roms arent for you.
not trying to be a jerk but he answered your question when most would avoid this type of thread.
I've looked around at quite a few roms. it's just since there is so many I don't know where to start. I'd like to try a few roms that quite a few people recommend and work down from there. It just seems easier than trying rom after rom after rom for a week or two when I could ask here, get a narrowed down list so I could only spend a few days, find what I liked the most and move on.
Ok thanks for the help.. sorry I wasn't to specific in the op :/ I'll start with chameleon and work my way around the list.

I was somewhat in the same boat a noob to customize roms the previous posts are right inba sense "to each there own" i read up on some roms then i decided on liquidsmooth thats after a month of reading lil by lil to this day im still learning
A noob suggestion if u want jst better battery life y not jst root and delete all the bloat ware extra stuff that comes in stock tw and go battery saving mod jst my noob suggestion
I've tried almost every ROM on here. KK ROM's and JB ROM's...for some reason...VIPER XL always has issues for me. No idea why as it's a great ROM...I get dropped calls, SIM disappears and I have to reboot and a few programs FC all the time. Completely clean install...wiped entirely...tried different kernels, stock, OV and UV...everything. Just isn't stable for me.
Anyway - I love KK ROM's because of the battery life but I dislike the any non-sense camera. Sundream's MIUI ROM's were great but slightly outdated and sometimes had Google Voice issues.
Not complaining at all! I love all these ROM's and respect the dev's hard work!

My two cents:
I've found the "best" Sense-based ROM for a camera is Turge's t-mobile-based ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2423735).
I also had trouble with ViperXL with random reboots and Airplane mode being enabled during calls. I may have just not used the right kernel.
In my opinion, KK ROMs don't really add much functionality to justify their installation. I always find myself going back to Turge's ROM for stability and Sense, which I really like.
Turge's ROM, being based on T-Mobile, enables hotspots, which is great.
Sense works, the camera works - everything just works; right out of the box.
I've added XPosed modules (e.g., Sense 5 toolbox) that help add some flexibility like swiping down to show notifications.
I also installed a camera that has both panorama and photo sphere (Gallery3d - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45923009).
But beyond that, no added mods.

If you've tried every ROM, why do you need us to spoonfeed you our recommendations?
"Best ROM" questions are frowned upon on XDA. The question is entirely pointless, as everyone uses their phone a bit differently, and what works "best" for one person might not for another. You might as well be asking what our favorite color is: What I answer really doesn't apply to you or anyone else.
Also, the question is an insult to the developers. Calling one "best" implies that others are somehow inferior, which is unfair to the devs that work so hard to bring us ROMs for free. Such discussions eventually just devolve into a popularity contest.
