The phone information says the M8 comes in 16 and 32GB, but I've never heard about a 16GB variant. Does it exist?
I don't recall what I saw the storage was on Verizon's site. I was still with US Cellular then, and I was seriously considering switching in May on vacation — I was gonna get the LG G2. Best Buy had it for $0.01 with a 2-year contract. Checked out the phone, wasn't feeling it, so I backed down. But I kept looking online after I got back, and the M8 won me over. (My first HTC, too.) All the specs checked out, and I would swear up and down they didn't say what the internal storage was. I assumed 16GB.
So when I go to actually switch, they don't have any One M8's, or any HTC for that matter, out. I told the guy, I'm with US Cellular and I want to switch, I want an HTC One M8. So he goes in the back, and comes out with my new phone. I saw the "32GB" right away but didn't ask. Sure enough, it was the advertised $199.99 with contract. This was in June. The phone wasn't on sale per se, but it had the $100 mail-in rebate.
So I come up here to learn how to root it, and I see it's listed as a 16GB phone with a 32GB option. That's always bugged me, but I never thought to ask until now. So... is XDA wrong, or is there in fact a 16GB model you can get?

Most models are 16 gig. Some carriers like Verizon only sell the 32 gig variant though.
Okay. So XDA is incorrect, since this is the Verizon area, to declare the phone as 16GB (quick facts) and mention the 32GB variant, but the 16GB option exists outside of Verizon.
Personally I think no phone should be sold with less than 32GB at this point. It might cost them a buck or two more but it makes a huge difference.
I just noticed also that the description indicates it's got a 2.5 GHz processor. It doesn't. The Verizon variant is clocked at 2.3GHz. As for memory, I don't know how people scrape by with only 16 gig. I'm not sure how people get by with 32 gig, honestly. I've got 96 gig installed in mine and it's over half full.

I'm in the market for an S3...looking to pick one up used since I'm still under contract (and don't want to lose unlimited data anyways). With the S4 coming out in the next month or two, do you think the used price of the S3 will significantly drop (say by $50 or more from it's current going rate)?
Maybe, values drop once a new model actually comes out.
You'd think for the first 2 weeks. But probably level out

Right, but if its something like $20 then I'm not going to worry about it. Was hoping maybe someone who buys/sells a lot of phones would have an idea.

If you're talking ebay no. The HTC Thunderbolt goes for more than that. Even the original Droid..... Ohh you mean a 50 dollar price drop.... not 50 total.. I'm dumb. I'd say maybe by August or October it should be that much less on average, but it's really an up and down market on ebay assuming that's what you're referring to.
If you check eBay at the right times you will find really good deals right now (not this exact moment). I saw a good condition white one sell the other day for 270. You gotta know when to find them. Like for instance some days everyone wants blue pebble other days everyone wants white. Look for clear photos and don't just get the first one thou find
Your best bet will be craigslist. And yes the price will drop if you are vigilant enough to catch it when it does

Were I looking for an S3 when the price drops following the release of the S4, I would be looking for another 32 gig version.
Yea, the S3 lets you use the physical microsd card as it should be used - expandable, optional storage - without the headache of losing app structure.
Just because you can just swap cards out at a whim doesn't mean you'll want to open it up to the environment all the time. There is definitely a certain amount of data I want always there, and 16 isn't enough. 32 isn't enough.
I'll be getting a 64 gig S4 for sure, I've only had 32 gig S3's and still wouldn't get a 16 instead of a 32.
Up to you OP, but i'd use the internal memory size as the first qualifying point, and then look more closely at what was left.

+100 to this. Just snagged a 32GB Dev Edition off CL for $280 lol.
I am sure that the price will drop the once the S4 comes out, that is the nature of technology. Question is whether it would be worth the wait? If you have to wait 2-3 months to save 50 bucks? Get it now and start enjoying it!
It will stick from 200to 300 on eBay . may find it cheaper on CL.

I've never bought from them, but I know a guy who buys exclusively from Swappa. Loves it.

I have a 16GB Razr Maxx right now and a 64GB microsd and never had any worries about space. The microsd fits all my music, pics and vids with plenty to spare, and I have 7 out of the 8GB usable internal storage free (the other 8 is used for system and apps). So I'm not too worried about internal storage size.
There hasn't been much available on CL in my area, and I'd personally rather pay the little bit extra on swappa or ebay and get some protection behind my purchase. I actually just picked one up on swappa since Verizon hasn't mention a thing about their S3 and I don't want to wait another month or two.
I just traded an original Droid RAZR + $60 a few days ago for a GS3. Still complete w/ box & accessories and in great shape. Granted, the RAZR was also complete and had a fancy case. I have seen plenty of these GS3's for $300 on craigslist(mostly the ATT / T-Mob versions). Although GS2's are maintaining a steady $200 so I doubt the 3 will drop much more anytime soon.
Hell, I sold an HTC HD2 a few months ago for $250 and that phone's like 3 years old now(then again, it does have a bit of a cult following)

Nice to know at least. My Rezound has a 64GB micro sd in it also even though the specs said it can't go higher then 32GB
Makes you wonder about the spec accuracy on any given phone... õ_Ô

Really... You couldn't use a better word than guesstimate?
CraigList for the win! I get all my phones off of there. Once the S4 comes out people will be selling their S3's within a week. Prime time to get a good deal.:good:
A friend of mine has been having increased issues with her ancient Verizon GNex lately and drunkenly ordered a 16GB black N5 from the Play Store last week. Her contract isn't up until mid-December, but her phone arrived today. My order (32GB black) says it won't be leaving the warehouse until December 3rd. She is afraid she's going to be too tempted to port her number to T-Mobile and risk an ETF with Verizon, so she isn't even opening the box. She is wrapping her phone up and putting it under her Christmas tree until her contract runs out.
She just proposed swapping with me. She said she would pay me the difference if I wanted hers now, and she would just take mine when it arrived.
The impatient side of me is really intrigued by this proposal. I am currently using a 16GB N4. I've never run out of space. I'm in an excellent 4G market, and I stream all of my music. I don't play games. The thing that takes up the most space on my device is podcasts, which can easily be managed better than I manage them now. Plus, I would be able to have an N5 in my hands tonight after work.
On the flip side, $50 is a really low price to pay for double the storage space. This screen is bigger and prettier, so I might be more tempted to throw a movie or two on here (would I?). I do have a 32GB N7 (13) that handles most of my media consumption needs. I mostly ordered the 32GB version out of laziness. Going 32 essentially meant not making a decision. But I do want this thing to be very future-proof (even though I'll probably buy next year's device as well).
Anyway, if you're me, what do you do? I'd especially like to hear from people who already have a 16GB version in their possession. Are you happy with 16? Do you wish you had gotten 32?

I have a 32gb right now, but the only reason was that I was impatient and didn't want to wait for the 16gb to arrive. As of now, with about 100 songs and 10 downloaded apps, I still have 21gb available.
At the time, I also really needed a flash drive since mine just failed, so I thought an extra $50 for a 32gb flash drive wasn't too bad anyway.
The point is, unless you store 10 1080p movies with a bunch of other stuff, you're never going to fill up the 32gb of space. 16gb should be more than enough for normal usage. Actually, I never used the 8gb of space on my N4.
You have a 16gb right now and arent finding yourself wishing you had more. To me that is the answer to your question. If you needed more you would already know it, you wouldnt be 'wondering'. As for futureproofing, you also said you will probably get a new phone in a year.... so thats not really a very long future.
I think you are mostly impatient, and trying to justify jumping on this offer which to me isnt that compelling of a reason. It is more emotional than logical as far as how i personally weigh decisions. I am going to say that my personal decision was no doubt that I wanted 32gb. I have tons of mp3s, large game installs, and I DONT have the ability to use the cloud for everything all the time. So really my personal choice is very different but because we have different situations, it is also completely irrelevant. LOL
It is ironic that patience is the driving force for both of you. hehe, she is afraid she will be tempted to switch her contract even if there is a penalty so that pushes her to NOT want the device now, and you DO want it now based on that same challenge. I definitely think you have less to lose by giving up the space, especially since she is paying the difference. whereas if she caves and switches providers that is a BIG ding in the wallet.
TLDR: if 16gb is enough for your current device, it will be enough for another year. :silly:

32gig for 2 reasons..
1) I agree, $50 cheap for double memory
2) My 32gig said will ship in 3-4 weeks... I got it in 4 days. I mean yours may come way faster than you think
I think the part of me that wants to say no to her is mostly driven by the fact that I don't like my impatience driving a decision, as Tweak properly pointed out. Then there is also the reality that this thing (my order) could very well leave the warehouse well before December, as Tomey points out. My friend's wasn't supposed to ship until November 26 as of yesterday, and it arrived today.

I'm getting one, just not sure if I am going with Sprint or TMobile. Thoughts?
I am, getting the gold 64gb since 128gb is no where in sight
I'm getting the black 64gb on Sprint.
I'm thinking about picking one up, haven't completely made my mind up yet.
I ordered mine from Amazon. I have no upgrade eligibility so I figured use the Amazon credit card lol. I got the 32 gig. That has always been enough space for me.
Getting a 32 gb for my girlfriend on Sprint, but waiting for the availability of the Edge in the the green color.
64 black edge preordered at best buy
price is going to turn away a lot of people.. i think samsung is demanding too much money for the Edge compared to the S6 ($100 or more in some cases)
there is no way to justify the increase in price just for a slightly different curve phone..
also, S6 has close to 20 million orders from Samsung, only 5 million or so for Edge version so that gives you an idea that while the Edge won't be a total failure, the S6 will have bigger support just because price is more realistic.
I am going to wait until price drops in a few months. because of samsung Greed (and forcing me to spend more money on a 64GB version) when i would have bought a 32Gb on release day if it had SD card) now i wait for them to be cheaper..

64 gb for Sprint. Pre ordered from best buy.
Please post any Edge deals or availability of gold variant.
Best Buy has no word on gold
Sprint's website only show black and white
Amazon has the 64gb gold for pre-order for $399.99 with $30 worth of free apps. Warning, apps in Amazon store are waaaay outdated.
I pre-ordere black form BB to swap to gold later in order to get the free wireless charger, $59 retail.
I wouldn't mind having one.
Went to Best Buy for a "hands on" experience, and I have to say, this blew my M8 out of the water for screen quality.
A very good looking phone. I didn't realize however, that there wasn't a micro SD slot. That's a no go for me in the end, but it is truly a beautiful phone.

I am jumping ship with AT&T because they really ****ed me on with the Samsung Galaxy S5, I found out that any phone released beyond the S4 has been pretty locked down in terms of being able to root, unlock, or customize beyond basic themes, which I greatly dislike. I found out when I got home the other day and looked up a root method only to find out that the S5 community on XDA has pretty much accepted that there isn't much that can be done with the phone. While T-Mobile on the other hand has unlockable/rootable phones.
Here is the list to the phones available on their site I was thinking of just getting another S5, which I am fine with. I'd get the S6 if it didn't lack features (Changable batteries, microSD slot), I was wondering if any of the other phones listed are worth looking at though? Opinions, Input, and Information are all greatly appreciated.
Do you have to purchase off the payment plan, or can you buy outright? If you have to use the payment plan, your options kinda suck. The Nexus 6 and LG G3 probably have the most development of the available options, but you can find brand new ones for cheaper if you can purchase outright (plus they only have the 32gb Nexus 6). The S5 is alright, but I'd rather have the G3. Remember that, like AT&T, T-Mobile is a GSM network and unlocked devices will work on their network. This includes phones like the Asus Zenfones, OnePlus, etc. For a couple hundred bucks or so you can get a G3 or OnePlus One 64gb and not get stuck on a payment plan for 2 years (not a contract, but not all that different).

I am picking through their payment plan phones this time around. Next time, I'll get one of the oneplus phones. Doesn't the Nexus 6 have the same issue that the Galaxy S6 have? In the way that it has no expandable storage? And does it have a replacable battery? Those two things are dealbreakers for me. The latter being the more important though. I can live with fixed storage as long as it is sufficient, and the phone is worth it. Can you tell me anything about the LG G3? I've not looked into it at all.

Yeah, the Nexus 6 (all Nexuses except the first in fact) doesn't have a microSD card slot. It came in 32 and 64gb versions, and unfortunately T-Mobile only offers the 32gb version (refurb), and they want too much for it, which is why I recommended buying elsewhere outright if it's within your means., because you can get a new/mint 64gb one for less than T-Mobile charges for the refurb'd 32gb. The battery isn't removable, although it's not impossible to tear down and replace like many sealed-battery phones.

Sure. It has the same Snapdragon 801 quad core 2.5GHz processor as the Galaxy S5, but has 3gb RAM whereas the S5 only has 2gb. 5.5" QHD 2560x1440 screen. It has an excellent camera, IR blaster, and most importantly (for you), both a microSD slot and removable battery. I just checked again though, and T-Mobile doesn't list the G3 anymore (I think they did a week ago, but no longer). There's lots of custom development for the G3 though, if you can buy one outright.
The G4 is very much the same as the G3, just improved. It's rootable, but there's practically zero custom development going on (I don't know why). But if you plan on using it for the next couple years, this might be the best choice. The Note 4 would be a good option too. Amazing screen, great camera, and it'll be familiar to you coming from the Galaxy S5. Rootable, and there's custom development, including customized Samsung ROMs (modified stock) and AOSP (stock Android) based. Right now the Note 4 is $150 off.
Just saw Greggles talking about this yesterday. You get a S9 Plus and you get a free Chromebook and a 64gb micro SD card as well.
If you don't use the spen a lot is that deal with it since it's $100 cheaper than the Note 9 and getting the Chrome Book and SD card as well? Also I got an s8 Plus sitting in the drawer as well for trade in.

I would never use a chrome book the 256GB SD card is more beneficial to me.
The note 9 is nice, but I would also never use a s-pen for anything.

Pretty good deal, the total for my 128GB S9+ and 128GB redEvoSD is $840 including state tax and after subtracting additional $140 I have gotten for the Chromebook. Total price. Just opened email from Paypal that someone paid me $160, the asking price for the 32GB Chromebook. Not bad, it's been 'back to school' season, it took only 2 days to sell it. I don't have a need for that chromebook, glad that someone have it, brand new, for $60 below orig. price. They paid extra $10 fee to swappa, I'm shipping it out tomorrow, label printed, paid $23 to USPS for that.
I got the deal too.

I did not think about the back to school angle. Nice!
I buy brand new, never been used, phones only once every 5 - 6 years. I usually buy off swap or local. So I always go big when I do.
Got the 256B unlocked version and the 256 GB card for $818 and some change. Of course that is pending they accept my 200 trade in. The phone had no cracks, held a charge, and was no other issues besides cheap.
I was slow on the draw and missed the sale they had a couple of weeks ago when they were giving out free bluetooth headsets. was kicking myself, but realized I have a really good pair so. Storage is what I need most.
i'm not sure the deal is working correctly...
the final payment is over $1000 when the phone is only $839, and the fine print says excludes taxes... seems like they're charging for the "free" chromebook?

Subtotal $919.98 + $58.41 Tax = total $978.39, sold chromebook for $160 on swappa(usps shipping $22) === the real price I paid for the phone and SD===$840
Well, nothing is free. I'm happy to have this phone, though with sagging sales on S9/+ we should see much better deals soon.
I have a question to ask, if you guys don't mind, what is the current SV number on your phones, you've probably bought your phones around the same time as I did and I'm baffled by having SV07, is that the # tells how many times the software was cycled on the phone? I only got one OTA installed so far. Did I pay for a 2nd hand phone?
